Too bad nothing is ever as it seems.

I’m back in Hill Crest, and it looks like I may have made an enemy last time I was in town.

I’m supposed to lie low, but when a long-time friend of dad comes looking for help to find his missing wife, I have a very hard time telling him no.

As if finding a missing woman wasn’t enough, I’m starting to think I might be haunted. Add in three men that want to finish what we started years ago and I’m thinking my dance card might be a little over booked.

Perfectly Wicked is the third book in the Magical Bureau of Investigation series. This is a slow burn RH or whychoose novel with adult situations.

Perfectly Wicked is book three and the final book in the Magical Bureau of Investigation Series by Albany Walker.

Ah!! Again nothing happens. The mysteries and emotional drama dwindled to nothing.

The series started out with a cozy mystery with the reverse harem being secondary to the plot, but the plot and reverse harem went nowhere. The guys all say “sorry” and that’s that. Everything is forgiven from book 1 to book 3.

The author mentions things from everyones pasts in this installment and Remy’s lack of magic, but she never goes into detail. Its thrown out there and then left.

In the end I never connected to the characters or the plot. It was lackluster and never felt complete. We have the mystery solved and the everyone back together, but it was all just too eh.

Perfectly Wicked was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

Magical Bureau of Investigation was such an incredible series and I’m honestly worried my review won’t do it justice. Been in a bit of a review slump as of late, but what can ya do? *shrugs*

I’m going to have to review books 1-3 in this together because… I binged the trilogy… I binged it hella hard. I started Homecoming Homicide (book 1) on Dec 14th and finished Perfectly Wicked (book 3) on the 17th. Also can we talk about what phenomenal timing I had? Swear it was fate that I finished book 2 at 4am on the 16th, the same day book three released. I didn’t even look to see how many books had been released when I started this series so it was totally meant to be.

Sorry I’m rambling, let’s get back to the series. I am absolutely OBSESSED with Percy, he’s the cutest and most hilarious familiar I’ve read to date! The mystery aspect and Frankie’s job definitely made the series addictive. I was so invested in finding out answers to the cases she worked that I couldn’t put the books down!

I really did love this series, like if Albany Walker had Percy merch I’d throw all my money at her kind of love. There was one thing I was disappointed with tho and that was Perfectly Wicked’s ending. At first I happily assumed there were more books in the series but upon further investigation I found out it was only a trilogy. Some things just felt unfinished if that makes sense? Like there could potentially (hopefully *fingers crossed*) be additional books that take place in that world in the future. I’m really hoping that means there will be because I truly adored the characters of Magical Bureau of Investigation.

This felt like a middle book, not the ending to a series.

This last book was jumbled and lacked direction. (Jmo). The book flashed back a couple times and built some background that really should have been established in the first book.
If you've made it this far, it's worth the read, but I really wish this would have been a stronger ending for the series.

cold fish

The emotional drama and the mysteries dwindled to a fizzle then sputtered out completely as book 3 of this series devolved into a standard RH sexathon.

Generally, I dislike RH because the books are more about explicit sex than anything else. This series started out with an almost cozy-like mystery style with an RH component that was largely secondary to the plot. I genuinely like second-chance emotional drama, but this went nowhere and the pretense of a plot was exactly that. Grayson, Remy, and Felix each mumble out a half-hearted “sorry” sometime between the first and second books and that’s that. All is forgiven and forgotten, never to be mentioned again. After the botched ceremony that broke them up as teenagers, the three guys switched universities without telling Frankie and didn’t speak to her again for nearly a decade. Remy and Felix would occasionally stalk her, but they never once considered going against Grayson’s edict that all cats are the same in the dark and they could easily substitute Frankie with any other girl.

I was sincerely surprised that the author didn’t think that the characters might want to speak with one another. Frankie knows Remy is a football player, Felix is an architect, and Grayson is mayor, but they never actually talk about any of it. Something happened to Grayson’s older brother and it sounds like Grayson’s grandfather was abusing him, but the author doesn’t elaborate. Remy’s lack of magic is casually mentioned, but again, the author doesn’t get into it. Felix is able to grow a fully mature tree in the house - a house he designed with Frankie in mind - but there’s no delving into that topic either. The characters go directly back to boning and really have nothing to say to one another.

A fun series!

So, something I failed to mention in my review of the second book: I LOVE the titles of each chapter. They don't have anything to do with the chapter, but they're funny and witty, and will probably have you at least chuckling at each one.

The story itself was pretty good, again! I had my suspicion on "the bad guy" again, and was actually right this time, but there was still a little bit of a twist in it!

I'm assuming there's going to be another book after this, it ended in a way that will definitely have stories to follow. If it doesn't, things are still wrapped up enough that it COULD end! (At the time of this review, I just haven't checked, there could be a scheduled one coming and I just don't know at this moment.)

This review covers all three books in the series.

Honestly, I liked this series. But I wanted to like it a lot more than I did; I could have liked it a lot more than I did. It is mostly a series of magical investigation bureau mysteries (almost bordering on cozy mysteries) with a poly second-chance romance subplot. I liked the mysteries. I liked the romantic subplot. I really liked the way the men had an important relationship between themselves. The problem is that the subplot is too much plot for a subplot, and as a subplot, doesn’t get the attention it needs. This means that the reader is left feeling unsatisfied by it. There were a lot of conversations that needed to happen that just didn’t, a lot of groveling and forgiveness that needed to be on-page and just wasn’t, etc. It left the books feeling lopsided and ill-weighted.

The reason I didn’t rate it higher than I did, though, is for a single big reason (and this is a spoiler, be warned). The basic premise is that Frankie and her guys had an “oops” misunderstanding while casting a spell as teens and then, despite being inseparable since they were children (and one being a freaking empath, another reading magical intent), and as a result, she ran away. But she only went 45 minutes away, they knew where she was (secretly checked on her once a month), and she knew where they were (in her hometown with everything and everyone she loved). And I’m supposed to believe, as a reader, that, despite missing one another, they all went somewhere between 5 and 10 years (the exact time is not stated, but long enough to start and finish university, go through bureau training, and get ensconced in careers) none of them ever even tried to make contact. She never had reason to visit home? None of that is even remotely believable, especially with the way the men structure their lives around the assumption that she’d be back at some point. That’s the foundation of the book, and it is shaky at best. I tried to suspend disbelief, but it was a struggle. It’s simply that unbelievable and undermined the entire plot.

Despite all of that, I liked the characters and world a lot. I’d be willing to read more of Walker’s work.

I liked the storyline in these and the world created by the author, found myself wanting to know more and interested in the work and characters. Would be interested in more series connected to this world, but focusing on other characters.
The downside of this series was that you feel like you are picking up part way through the story. The MCs have a lot of past history (especially heartbreak), and this series starts as they meet back up and decide to make it work. I really wanted the series to start earlier on in their relationship when they were younger and first experienced their feelings and challenges. Getting to know each other and the excitement that brings etc. So I didn’t end up feeling as connected to the characters which was disappointing, and what ultimately resulted in the 3 star review.

I can honestly say I have never read a series like this before…ever. When I picked this series up I had no clue. I liked the covers and I really enjoy paranormal with my mystery. And that indeed met all the requirements.

What a shock after book 2 and some digging around that this series is what’s called RH. It all made sense. And while that whole idea boggles my mind. For me the idea of a book is to be entertained and boy was I. The story was fast paced and while I figured it out pretty early it made no difference. The plot moved fast and the characters were likable. And the 3 fellows cracked me up. She was one lucky lady.

That being said it won’t be in my usual rotation but it was a very fun detour.

Disappointed

Again these books are short and I like the wrap up of the plots but the skimming of the relationship is disappointing. There is no in-depth on them at all. We breeze over the other women that are and have been in the lives of the guys and no talk but briefly on what happened in thebpast. This was predictable in the plot but I was more interested in the past and what exactly happened with the guys and gals that P has to have in their life in some form or another.
This isn't the last book it seems but the lack of relationship exploration leave me not really caring so Ill prolly let this series die here . Three stars for plot finish and no cliffys - 2 stars for shallow relationship content .

What can I say?

If you haven't started this series then now is the time. If like me you have just finished the third book , you're anxiously awaiting the next. I mean there has to be right? While I like the storyline I will admit the thing I really like is the witticisms that are used for chapter headings. Lol. Although I understand the previous and now relationship between the FMC and her guys I feel I'm missing something. I do not totally understand Gray. He seems a catalyst for the keeping the guys from tracking her down and there is a scene in the previous book with his explanation but I still feel there is more I need to understand him.

Great addition to the series

Solid 5 star rating.

This was a great addition to the series. The storyline in this third book was captivating, keeping my interest as I turned page after page while reading. Before I knew it, the words read "The End". Now that was disappointing.

Here you get to see the relationship develop between the main characters. There are plenty of "heated" scenes for those that love them. I don't mind them but when plots are good, I want more mystery and action scenes over the heated scenes lol.

Overall, I'm glad I found this series and can't wait till the next book comes out. It sounds like it's going to be another page turner.

Final book but doesn't feel like it

A lot of loose end s were left open, though larger points were tied off. I love the titles to the chapters. Those may be my favorite parts. Her blood thirsty familiar is pretty awesome. So the group is together again. Everyone is all in. The mystery parts of this series are pretty low in priority and development and the plot meanders. That being said, somehow the author makes it really interesting somehow. Not sire of I can get used to the writing style, but I enjoyed the series. More steam in this book. M/F/M no M/M. Paranormal RH told from FMC POV.

Next please!

After reading so many dense heavy books that leaves me with such a hangover this is exactly what I need. I can't get enough. I want more I want to experience Felix as he actually goes to the academy and maybe even Gray. Who knows? I want to see their relationship grow and continue to expand. And the dad and the librarian what's happening there? It's like reading castle or any great crime show. Each book has a story or a case but yet the characters are growing and expanding as it goes.

Absolutely loved

I really loved this series. There's the mystery of the case but it's a light, witty read with some steamy scenes too. I loved reading about Frankie and the boys all getting their HEA and finding their way back to each other. I really enjoyed how the case went. I had a feeling what was going to happen but didn't keep me from reading. This book had me hooked from the beginning. Loved the magic aspects too. Here's to hoping more books will ve written in this series.

The perfect mix of mystery and steamy RH romance

Engaging characters, excellent/near seamless world building, and an extremely well-crafted mystery. The cheeky chapter headings are what kicks it up to five stars though ;). I was a bit tempted to knock a star off for the present tense because that always bugs me, but I couldn't resist those headers.

I recommend the entire series, and hope that we'll get at least one more book out of this one.

Mystery and Romance!

I knew it!
Though I had figured out the mystery pretty quickly, I still enjoyed this book a lot. It was a great mix of mystery and romance. There was definitely a lot more of the romance than the second book which I appreciated. I feel like this series could go on for a long time - like a typical crime drama you see on television, it has the potential.
I would definitely recommend this series. Very fun.

I feel like we can go deeper with this series- like more backstory and more cases. The side characters intrigue me and I wish we had more interactions with them. The magic world is interesting here and it makes me curious about other traits people would have and how that can be used for good and/or evil.

Maybe we can get some kind of novella epilogue showing the crew a few years later…maybe some kiddos, maybe a case being worked on, etc.

Fun series

This was a lighter, fun series and I really enjoyed it. This book basically wraps up and solidifies the relationship aspect and cleans up the "open" case. I thought the relationship development was well done with lots of emotions but humor as well. If you're looking for a good, less serious read then I highly recommend this series.

Is this the end?

Really enjoyed this book. The guys seem to have got their act together, and just in time to as the mysterious Bursa comes a calling. This had me flying through the book as I got caught up in the investigation. Unfortunately it ended with a hook that had me hoping there were more book forthcoming, as I’d be mightily peeved if this was it.

Cozy mystery/PNR/Second chance RH romance

Another great series from Albany Walker! Much less dark than the ‘Friends with the monsters’ series and closer to Havenfall Habour. Loved it completely though and can’t wait for the rest!
This is a second chance RH read set in a urban paranormal setting (our world but with magic). There’s also some cozy mystery vibes as the FMC is a MBI (Magical Bureau of Investigation) agent.

This should be an ongoing series!

I loved this book! This was the best of the 3..
It had a little bit of everything without all the relationship angst.
I would love more stories in this world with these characters.
Had kind of an early Anita Blake vibe. And I loved that..
Definitely worth reading

Great series

I really enjoyed these three books.
I'm hoping there are going to be a lot more books with Frankie and her guys as well as focusing on some of the other characters in the bureau. I want to know more about the head seer.
I just really enjoyed this series and would recommend to lovers of magical and reverse harem books 5 stars

This was a great ending to a light, witty, sexy and funny trilogy. My mind went darker thinking who "the bad guy" was. Albany Walker kept me on my toes though and I loved that, for me, this trilogy felt like a CSI, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Charmed. All of which I loved to watch 😍

it can’t be over

I feel like there could be more to this series than just that. It was a great ending with an awesome HEA. I wish there’s more of Frankie and all of them including Lewis and the AD.

SOOOO GOOOD

I love this series so dang much! It's funny and thrilling and has a lot of spice wink wink. I really hope this is not the end of the series because this book was extra good and I have not had enough of Frankie and her men.

Good read. When Frankie’s dad and gf are put into protective custody to draw out her scumbag ex Frankie gets a suspicious mystery. Too bad she couldn’t hear my internal warnings lol. I loved the character growth. I hope there will be another one

Love and justice what a happy combination. I feel like there is potential for more books but alas there is no evidence that this is the case. Is find it enjoyable to read about the escapades of this harem and Percy. Maybe.. fingers crossed..

All I'm going to say is that Albany Walker is the queen of paranormal reverse harem genre. This series was amazing from the beginning to the end. It was sexy, fun and romantic with all three grump hot alpha males.

And of course Percy stole my heart.
