A king chased by the demons of his past. A merciless god seeking redemption through bloodshed. And the woman whose very existence defies possibility.
It’s been three months since Margrete Wood defeated her depraved father and saved the mystical island of Azantian. But the monstrous creatures released that night have hidden themselves in the human realm, and Margrete and her king set sail to hunt them down.
When disaster strikes on the high seas, Margrete and the crew find themselves stranded on the shores of a new and dangerous island. It’s there that they come across an ancient coin, one that legend claims belonged to a powerful goddess. It signifies the first of three deadly trials that must be completed. If they fail these tests, they forfeit their lives to the very place that traps them.
As Margrete and Bash struggle to survive gruesome horrors lurking around every turn, a mighty god watches. He’s waited centuries for this moment, and in Margrete, he sees the queen he’s been searching for.
Once the third and final coin is found, Margrete and Bash will discover if their love can conquer all… even death itself.
Katherine Quinn is a fantasy romance author and poet. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in psychology. She resides in Houston, Texas with her husband and children.
Her love for writing began after she read her first fantasy series, Song of the Lioness, by Tamora Pierce. After that, she wanted nothing more than to be a dagger-wielding heroine. Unfortunately, it’s frowned upon to give a child a dagger, so she settled on writing about daring adventures instead.
Coffee is her true love, and she believes anything can be fixed with Starbucks and dark humor.
"As long as you listen to me as well, pirate." "I do so love following your commands, princess."
This is a four POV book, two of those POV´s frequent and those are the ones of Margrete and Bash.
I neither disliked nor really liked Margrete as a FMC, for me her personality fell a bit flat and it sometimes felt like she had no real depth to her. I liked her chemistry with Bash, they had great sexual tension, but the romance part of the book wasn´t really there for me. Everytime they try to communicate their problems, they just end up having sex instead. Also it kind of made me sad how Bash didn´t realize that the creature in front of him wasn´t Margrete when you as a reader noticed right away. Like don´t you know your girl?
Out of the side characters I liked Bay, he was the only one with a proper backstory and some character to him. I liked Mila and Adrian as well and other than those the rest of the side characters felt like they were mostly just there to support Margretes story.
Plotwise I quite enjoyed the book, I really liked the world building, especially the sea creatures. I liked the layout of the islands and the system of the gods. The pacing was quick, sometimes to a point where I wished it would slow down a bit to explain some things further. Also I didn´t really need a whole page describing how Bash skinned a deer with only his teeth... The plot twists weren´t that suprising for me, most you could saw coming. The ending however shocked me, although I still not know if in a good or bad way.
Overall it was an okay read with a great world building and quick pace but characters that fell a bit flat for me. I don´t know yet if I will continue the series and read the last book to the trilogy.
trigger warnings: torture, hallucinations, loss of loved ones and a gory deer scene
This book is a masterpiece. I loved every second of it and I'm already eager for the next one.
I love Katherine's humor and how it comes through the writing! Both Margret and Bash are funny in subtle ways that make me adore them even more. Their story was so heartbreaking here, especially in the second half of the book, that seeing them react and interact in such a way was a layer of light my soul needed.
I have to admit, I jumped on the Team Darius train at the first page of the first book, but Bash continued to make me regret everything.
In any other story, I would pick the blond guy in a heartbeat over the dark one, but Bash… you will have to pry the man from my cold dead hands. I just love him, okay?! The depth of his character, the way he isn't just a glorified leader with nothing to show for the praise both in world and in text, the fact that he can be a meany in bed but also an utterly devoted lovesick puppy out of it is simply the best combination.
If Bash wouldn't be Bash, I would be fine with either guy. Hell, even make it poly. That would be something. But Bash is Bash, so everyone needs to move far away from Margrete.
And if I'm at Margrete, I really loved the growth she went through here. The way she came to embrace her rage and desire for vengeance is something we so rarely see in books. It's about the portrayal and the intricate details of events and the character that matters here. I think Katherine's strength is to filter through popular tropes/characters and incorporate it into her writing in such a way that's not harmful. (See: Bash, who is the exact same character we see everywhere these days, except he's never toxic for a second, is held accountable for his mistakes both in canon and narration.) And to see Margret's character flourish among such circumstances is a little like a breath of fresh air.
This series is officially my everything.
I received a free copy from the author and every word is my honest opinion.
---------------
Okay, this was insanely good. Just wait until I get my thoughts together 🤯 Hands down one of the best books of this year, both quality and the story.
Holy guacamole! I absolutely adored book one but book two... whoo, you're in for a wild ride!!
Book two takes a darker turn, but I loved i!! I LOVED IT!! I had a hard time setting this book down to actually be present in my life, but that's how devoted I was to this story. The new twists and relationships Quinn built into this story are wonderful and she did a fantastic job with all the different points of views. I don't usually like so many views, but this was really well done.
I can't wait for book 3! I need it now because that ending... ripped my heart out and left me hanging!!!!!
Set off on a new, darker, adventure with Margrete and Bash….
While the story begins in Azantian, we don’t stay there long. Margrete and Bash set off to try to right the wrongs done at the end of book one (The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea) but things take a turn…. fast.
Margrete and crew must complete three tasks, one for each coin they find on the island they shipwrecked upon. Complete each task and move onto the next, but if you fail? Death awaits.
Everyone has secrets and some are bigger than others…
I am still reeling from this story. Just when you think you have it figured out? Surprise! You’re wrong. Twists and turns around every corner, mystery, suspense, love, heartbreak, On These Wicked Shores has it all. Katherine Quinn outdid herself.
THE ENDING?! Ma’am. I am not okay. We don’t spoil endings here, but I can tell you it left me wanting more. This is one of those stories where you close the book then open it back up to see if there are pages you missed because there’s no one she did THAT and went into the prologue. In an utterly heart-wrenching, but good, way.
If you love SJM or JLA, PICK UP KATHERINE QUINN. The book description itself states for fans of The Hunger Games, as well, and I definitely can attest to that. The coins, the island, and the danger that lurks around every corner aren’t for the faint of heart…
"I trust you with all my days, all my nights, and all the twilight moments in-between."
The story took a darker turn filled with dangerous trials and unexpected twists!
The story picks up right after the ending of book one, it is well written and well paced with major developments on the characters. Told in mostly dual POVs, the main characters but also other character's POV which makes it more interesting!
Margrete is a lot stronger, trying to learn about her new powers, defense skill and also communicating skill with Bash. However, Bash character's changes is something I didn't see coming but it was a nice touch to the story-seeing another vulnerable side from him.
I truly love their growing relationship, they're always supporting each other. They're not perfect and made mistakes but they are trying to be better for each other. I have no doubt they bring out the best version of themselves whenever they're together!
"Like hell I'm getting behind you. I fight at your side, princess."
The last few chapters are a wild ride with a twist that surprise me. The epilogue with the villain's POV let the readers have a glimpse of what's coming on the final book. It'll be even more dangerous and the stakes are higher!
Overall, a great addition to The Azantian trilogy! It's enjoyable and entertaining, will keep you flipping the pages and finish it in one sitting! I'm looking forward for the final book in this series to know how it all ends. I hope everything got their happy ending!
Actual rating: 4.5⭐
I received an advanced review copy for free from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
That cover though! Again, bravo for an absolutely stunning, eye-catching cover! (can't wait to see the third one!)
I adored the first book in The Azantian Trilogy and this book was one of my most anticipated reads this year...and I WAS NOT LET DOWN! Holy crow! No middle book syndrome whatsoever, On These Wicked Shores was a fantastic second book.
This book definitely has a darker tone to it and I love it! There were a lot of shocking turns that I couldn't accurately predict. Bash is battling his own inner demons while Margrete's growth with her new powers is gradual through the whole book instead of her suddenly being an all powerful being. I adore Margrete as a MC and am enjoying watching her evolve. Darius also plays a very large part in this book and I am very excited to see what happens next!
Overall, wonderfully written fantasy! It's got an intriguing plot with loveable characters and plenty of spicy romance.
Big thanks to City Owl Press via LibraryThing for the e-ARC to read, enjoy, and honestly review.
On These Wicked Shores by Katherine Quinn “You couldn’t pick and choose times to love someone. Love meant both sunshine-filled days and cold, hard nights.” ~~~ Katherine, first, special thank you to you for sending me a eARC. My heart leapt out of my heart when it hit my email. Can’t wait for book 3! Book two of the Azantian Trilogy, and Quinn has hit it out of the park again. I fell in with her writing in book one, and when the form for book 2 was out. I hit that button, lighting fast! I fell in love with Bash and Margrete; the banter, the SPICE, and everything about this couple was just amazing! Then the side characters are fantastic; I love their flow with the couple and their own personalities are the bomb. Now onto the plot for this book, WOW! The amount of times I may have thought where the story was going. Yea I was wrong. But I won’t say anymore, ya’ll really need to go check out Katerine’s trilogy!
I was busting at the seams to read this book with how The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea ended. I was lucky enough to get a before edits ARC to read and I couldn’t be more grateful for being amongst the first to read it. Worth noting is that changes may occur between the ARC I got to read and the final printed copy.
The story takes a darker turn in this book with all our favourite characters from book 1 being tested both mentally and physically. This was a wild rollercoaster of emotions and we get to learn a lot of the backstory for Bash and Margrete.
Margrete is an absolute powerhouse in this book. She not only has the strength to prevail through her own trials and tribulations while also learning about herself and her past but she’s also the rock and the grounding presence for Bash.
My heart broke for Bash! He became part of my book boyfriend harem in the last book, so seeing him broken and brought to his knees was rough. Out of all the characters, he probably undergoes the greatest transformation, not just physically but also mentally. I felt his pain, my heart broke for him but at the same time he frustrated me and made me want to smack him upside the head while yelling “use your words”.
The addition of Darius throws a spanner in the works for both Margrete and Bash. I’m still so torn with him. I went through a range of emotions with him. I liked him, I hated him, I think I wanted more and in the end I’m just as confused now as I was about his appearance at the end of The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea. I won’t go into any more detail for fear of giving anything away but like I said at the start of this review it’s an emotional rollercoaster so you better buckle up and enjoy the ride!
Katherine has crafted a world of secrets and mystery with strong characters and a plot that will have you guessing. I thought I knew which way the story was going to go but the ending has me guessing and I’m not sure anymore. Looking forward to reading the next book but in the meantime I promise I’ll be waiting patiently. This series is perfect for fans of FBAA, ACOTAR and The Witch Collector.
Okay, The last few chapters of this book were wild! First, I’d like to thank Katherine Quinn for an ARC of this book! This book follows the events of book 1 in The Azantian Trilogy, The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea, which I read and reviewed last year. This book picks up where book 1 left off following Bash and Margrete. It is mostly dual POV, but we do get a little sprinkling of other POVs here and there and I enjoyed that. Right off the bat, I could tell that Bash and Margrete were going to have some communication issues. There were so many events in the book where if they’d just talked to each other, they would have resolved. However, would we have all the twists and turns and things to drive the plot if they were resolved? No we wouldn’t. There is an element of mystery with Bash that kept me turning pages so I could solve it. Katherine Quinn definitely foreshadows that he has a mysterious past and that it eventually will come to a head. There is a trial sequence which was fun to read, and I felt the trials were unique. The ending was wild and unexpected and honestly, has me wishing book 3 was out now. There is some spice and it was well written. The plot has definitely thickened, and I can’t wait to see where this story goes. Release for this book is set for May 31, so keep your eyes open on Katherine Quinn’s page for more information on preorders. This is an adult fantasy, 18+ for sexual content.
On These Wicked Shores is a fantastic sequel to The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea! Three months have passed since the end of the first book, and Margrete and Bash are adjusting to their new lives. But when they learn dangerous monsters have hidden in the human realm., the couple quickly gathers forces to defeat the enemy.
During their journey, they are shipwrecked and stranded, apart, on a dangerous and terrifying island with no way to escape. No one is safe on this mysterious and deadly island, which is an intriguing backdrop to the story, and the characters quickly learn they can trust no one and nothing. Nothing is as it seems, and with their very lives on the line and danger coming in every direction from numerous antagonists, getting off the island alive seems doubtful.
As Margrete and Bash struggle to find their way back to each other and survive the horrors of the island, a god watches and waits to claim Margrete. Filled with action, romance, and danger, there’s never a dull moment in this exciting and captivating story. There’s so much intrigue, and the suspense is intense! Plus, :much like the first book in the series, the world-building is as layered as the protagonists, and it continues to expand. Based on the ending of this book, it appears we’ll see even more of Quinn’s vivid and immersive world-building in the next book.
Bash and Margrete are such dynamically developed characters, and I like that the story switches between their perspectives. Bash totally has my heart! Each goes on terrifying, heart-breaking, and painful journey, both physically and emotionally, Luckily, they have faith in their love and are determined to reunite. Their love for each other is so strong, and it’s absolutely beautiful. This devoted couple has risked everything to be together, and to see them together and happy is everything! However, their relationship is riddled with trials and tribulations. Their love story made me feel all the feels as Margrete and Bash try to fight their way back to each other. It’ll be interesting to see how they deal with some of the shocking revelations, not to mention the many things that transpired in this book. Their journey gets more and more dangerous as Margrete learns about her power, and she and Bash both learn more about their past.
The secondary characters are great as well, and I like seeing the friendships Margrete has developed. She has a lovely connection with Bay, and she deals with many other personalities, some supportive and some not, as they try to survive on the island. Other antagonistic characters are also interesting, especially Darius, and I’m curious to learn more about them in the next book.
I loved this story! It’s dark, suspenseful, and action-packed, and after that epic ending, I can’t wait to read the final book in the trilogy! Katherine Quinn is an excellent storyteller, and I was engrossed in this book from the start. There are scenes throughout the story that are surprising, but one scene toward the end had my jaw literally dropping (and then I burst into tears! lol). I would definitely recommend the series to romantasy readers but would suggest starting with the first book as this isn’t really a standalone. Thanks to NetGalley, Catherine Quinn, and the publisher for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
Exciting, suspenseful, romantic....surpasses The girl who Belonged to the Sea. I'm in love with the characters....the beauty of Azantian and its diverse people. I can't wait to see what happens to Margrete and Bash....and the loyal friends who have a place in my heart. A must read!
First off, I want to thank the author for an ARC of On These Wicked Shores. This book was a wild ride! I thought I liked the first book- the sequel set this book firmly as a favorite series of mine! On These Wicked Shores has a much darker tone than the first book. It takes place a few months after the events of The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea. Bash and Margrete, along with a few other familiar faces, set off to right the wrongs that took place at the end of the first book but are quickly shipwrecked on a mysterious island on which they have to take part in 3 deadly tasks. Right off the bat, it was apparent that all is not as it seems with Bash and I really enjoyed reading the chapters from his POV. We learn so much more about our characters and their true histories that they may- or may not- be aware of. And those last couple of chapters- my mind is still reeling and I am NOT okay. I’m going to need book three ASAP!
I was so enamored with this story!!! It continues 3 months after the last book ended with Margrete and Bash happy together, but there are forces trying to force them apart. Bash is hearing voices, and acting strangely and having gaps in his memory. Margrete is struggling to lean her new magic so she can help fight against the sea monsters that are loose and being visited by Darius.
They take off on a voyage to find the monster's but the ship is attacked, Bash taken by the one of the Monsters who tells him she is his real mother, and Margrete and a few others wash up on the shore of an island that starts trying to kill them.
They are put thru many harrowing tests and start losing a few of the trusted soldiers. Bash is also in the island trying to find Margrete and the others but is transforming.
The ending is sooooo sad but leaves you with hope that everything will work out towards their HEA!
I absolutely loved this book.... the story, the characters, the plot, the intrigue!! I can't wait to see what happens next!
“Give me your dark. Your light. Your love. Give me everything. All the pieces you feel broken. All the parts of yourself you hide from the world. I want them for myself, because you won my heart during my darkest days, and you kept it safe when the light finally rose again. I trust you with all my days, all my nights, and all the twilight moments in-between.”
I liked book 1. But, my dear friends, that might have been child’s play compared to this one. I see now that Katherine Quinn was coming at me slowly, as to not scare me. And then she writes OTWS and robs me of my soul as if a Nymera came out of this book herself and ripped it clean, never to give it back again 😱
I’m woman enough to admit that during that Prologue Darius made my heart flutter a little. I mean, I’m conditioned to devour all things enemies to lovers. So, don’t judge me 👀. I came to my senses pretty fast. Team Bash. Always. To the underworld and back 😏 I could say a million things about Margrete. It’s impossible not to fall in love with her. Impossible. But it’s precisely her love, her ability to give her heart so completely that has me in awe with her. She will fight, sacrifice, tear this world apart to save the ones she loves.
My heart, like my soul, didn’t survive this book. Between Bash and Bay. Yeah, it is pretty much useless right now. But I have one last thing I must add: the Gods plot is amazing, but the trials were the PERFECT book 2 subplot. Adult. 5 stars ⭐️
“In this life and the next, I will you love. Always”
“Mon shana Leandri Le Voux” (My hearts beats with yours)
“I’d follow you anywhere. Even to the underworld itself princess”
I want to start this review acknowledging that this book almost killed me!!! 😂😭🥲My heart was beating so fast the entire time.. Emotional damage!!! Thank you Katherine Quinn for the ARC!! I really appreciated it!
In this book they had to go through so much! It was a entire journey full of pain! Lost! Lies! Visions! Test! Weird dreams! Deceiving!!! The way Margrete love Bash is just… I can’t even! She really doesn’t care who he is! How he looks or how much darkness there’s inside of him, he’s everything and more… Bash is a changed man! He doesn’t know what to think about his new persona but he’s 100% sure that nothing else matters except keeping his ppl and Margrete safe… Their 🌶 moments were everything! I mean!! Just perfect!! Darius! Darius …. You’re so naughty! We could see a different side of you, came To understand your obsession with power and with her…. Book #3 is going to be epic I can tell you…
I don’t even know where to BEGIN with how good a sequel this was. Let’s get into it:
🧜🏼♀️ if you are a New Adult Fantasy Romance fan, read this like… yesterday 🧜🏼♀️ pirates and sea creatures and magic and gods and romance and 💋spice 🧜🏼♀️ This book was mostly set on a mythical, magic & danger filled island where Margrete, Bash and their crew have to overcome trials to survive & discover the island’s secrets. Do I need to say more? 👏🏼 🧜🏼♀️ Margrete is everything we love in a heroine. She’s fierce, powerful, empathetic, strong, bold, and soft in all the right moments. 🧜🏼♀️ the chemistry between Bash and Margrete was PALPABLE in this one. Their relationship deepens in such a beautiful way. 🧜🏼♀️ the situation with the sea god and Margrete… I won’t say too much but what a curveball and I AM HERE FOR IT 🧜🏼♀️ I’m realizing I need to just make a whole point about curveballs. Bash’s backstory? Darius? I’m 🤯 and this was SO well done 🧜🏼♀️ did I mention spice? I was fanning myself at 22% 🥵 🧜🏼♀️ I was audibly gasping at this ending. The stakes and the danger just SKYROCKETED 🧜🏼♀️ we love a vengeful Woman vowing to end the people who harmed her & the people she loves, don’t we? I sure do
I don’t feel like this adequately sums up my feelings about this book. It was so fun, so artfully written, so captivating and fast-paced. This should be at the top of so many peoples TBR, because it’s an absolute hidden GEM. Margrete & Bash will live in my head rent free til I get my hands on the last book.
Thank you so much to the author for the advance copy of this book! I feel to freaking honored to be able to add to the buzz of this beautiful series 💕 and happy pub week!!
‼️ALSO: SALE ALERT! (6/1/22) The first book in this series (The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea) is currently .99¢ on kindle. Literally what are you waiting for??? Go go go!
Wow!!! I could not put this down. I am extremely lucky and thankful to have been sent an arc of this book. It absolutely delivers guys!!! If you loved the first book, you will absolutely go feral for the second. You get a good taste of romance & spice, and an amazing storyline full of adventure! This was a great balance of Margrete & Bash banter & spice, along with tying together a lot of things we have been wanting to know!
I read these two books back to back after being approved for the ARC of On These Wicked Shores. I told myself after seeing "omg that ending" for book one that I needed to read them close together. That I wouldn't let myself finish it and have to sit here with any sort of cliffhanger when it's a trilogy and there's not even an anticipated release date for book 3.
I cannot believe I did this to myself. The heartbreak.
No, it's not necessarily a cliffhanger, but I did reread the last few chapters and redownload the book thinking "maybe my copy was just cut off." Of course not. But let me backtrack.
On These Wicked Shores picks up three months after where The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea left off. Margrete and Bash must gather a crew as creatures now stalk the human realm and must be defeated. As they find themselves shipwrecked on an island and separated from one another, they must overcome obstacles to reunite. But not only are there deadly creatures, but a god watching their every move.
Bash and Margrete are one of my favorite couples. They have overcome so much and maintained their belief in their love surviving. It is hard to not root for them, and also wish for them to catch a break. The twists and turns and shocking revelations give not just more of a punch to this book, but also to what is to come in book three. While we learned much about her powers and both of their pasts, I am hoping we see more of the secondary characters that wiggled into my heart, like Bay.
The Azantian trilogy is an incredible ride, I didn't get a single bit of that "middle book filler slump" that is hard to not feel with trilogies, and I cannot wait for the conclusion. Even if it will be a little bittersweet to leave these characters I have come to love behind.
Those last few chapters really shocked me, and I'm normally one to guess a twist 5 minutes in. Definitely don't forget the epilogue to get the villain's POV to give you some peace (and something to think about) as we wait for book three.
The only reason I read this was because I was curious what was going to happen after last book and it was free. It was a little worse then the first book is saying it wasn’t good. The writing is okay, and was boring at a lot of parts. And had a lot of certain scenes that it would have been much better then without And I ended up having to skip almost full chapters because of the scenes. The story had a lot of promise though and I love the premise of it. The author has a very creative mind. But for me as a personal preference I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it was a clean read.
The character of Margret continues to captivate and surprise us readers. Her story is intriguing and powerful. Definitely recommend this book if you want romance, mystery and adventure.
On These Wicked Shores is the perfect sequel to The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea. I did not know it was possible to fall even more in love with Margrete and Bash but I did. Their chemistry leaps off the pages but it was the way their relationship grew that had me hooked. The stakes are higher in this book and there is more to lose than ever before, but through it all, they mature together and show unconditional love and support.
This book is action-packed and full of twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. Katherine Quinn has added even more wonderful layers to a unique and magical world. Each of her characters is dynamic and stands out throughout the book.
Easily one of my favorite reads of 2022. I am still recovering from that ending and need book three ASAP.
I don’t even know where to begin. The first book was already one of my favourite reads last year but this one? This was a freaking masterpiece! Like holy hell, I was literally shaking during most of this book, it gripped me from the start and it just got better and better. Margrete and Bash easily made their way into my Top 5 bookish couples❤️ I really hope the third book will come out soon because after that ending I NEED it very badly🥺
Thank you so much to Katherine Quinn for the opportunity to read an ARC of On these wicked shores❤️
“As long as you’re beside me, I’m never truly lost.”
First I would like to thank City Owl Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read an arc of this book! I am honored to have been given a chance to read it and give an honest review.
On These Wicked Shores is a stunning sequel to The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea. This story takes place three months after Margrete Wood defeated her depraved father and saved the mystical island of Azantian. But the monstrous creatures that were released that night have now hidden themselves in the human realm, it is up to Margrete and her king to set sail to hunt them down. When disaster strikes on the high seas, Margrete and the crew find themselves stranded on the shores of a new and dangerous island. It’s there they come across an ancient coin, one that legend claims belonged to a powerful goddess. It signifies the first of three deadly trials that must be completed. If they fail these tests, they forfeit their lives to the very place that traps them.
As Margrete and Bash struggle to survive gruesome horrors lurking around every turn, a mighty god watches on. He’s waited centuries for this moment, and in Margrete, he sees the queen he’s been searching for. Once the third and final coin is found, Margrete and Bash will discover if their love can conquer all…even death itself.
This sequel was absolutely perfect, I couldn’t seem to get enough of it! It was so nice to be able to fall back into Margrete and Bash’s story and see what they had all been up to after the first book. This book was everything I could have ever wanted in a pirate fantasy/romance! Just like the first book I found myself on the very edge of my seat, unable to put the book down and desperate for more. Once again the world building in this book was absolutely wonderful and I adored the lore that was peppered in throughout the story, it made for a very fascinating read! I really loved the way things were described in this book as well. I felt as if I could taste, hear and smell everything that the author described to her readers.
I really enjoyed watching the progression of Margrete and Bash’s relationship, it was clear that their relationship had grown so much since we last saw them. I absolutely loved to see how supportive they were of one another, it was clear their bond was a very strong one and not easily severed. Together they made the perfect team! It was also very nice to see Margrete form bonds with those around her, considering how she had come to them a stranger and an outsider at first.
This book was everything that I wanted and more, and talk about a cliffhanger! That cliffhanger had me on the very edge of my seat and I can’t wait to see what happens next in their adventures! I am eagerly awaiting the next installment of this amazing series that I have grown to love so much!
This is a book series I will be highly recommending to anyone and everyone! On These Wicked Shores was by far one of my favorite reads so far this year! I can’t wait to see where our main characters find themselves next, this book was everything that I wanted and more!
A GIANT thank you to the author for sending me this ARC for my honest review!!
Rating: 5/5 Spice: 2/5
Before we get into the review, please know that this review could contain possible spoilers. I try to do my best to avoid them, but here’s your warning in case there are minor spoilers!
Onto the review!
I absolutely loved Book 1 of this series, so I was ecstatic to receive an ARC for the second book!
From the beginning, it definitely seemed like there was going to be a problem in some way where Bash and Margrete kept the changes they’ve seen within themselves a secret from each other. However, they get points for at least trying to talk through their disagreements rather than just always tucking it away for later and having sex instead. At the very least, I’m glad that Margrete realizes that sex isn’t a cure all for disagreements even if her self-control didn’t always win out. On another note related to their relationship, I appreciated how they were constantly reassuring each other about things they were feeling insecure about. For example, how Margrete would reassure Bash that he was absolutely good enough for her or how Bash would remind Margrete of the bad bitch that she is when she’d doubt herself.
The author really made you question Margrete and Bash’s relationship by throwing Darius in there to attempt to confuse not only Margrete but us readers as well. Darius seemed promising at some points, but then at others we are aggressively reminded that he’s a literal psychopath.
I loved the development of the side characters as well like Mila, Atlas, Bay, and crew. And oh boy, what a plot twist at the end!
Oh our little Margrete, how I love her!! She is such an amazing FMC. I adore her fire, passion, strength, and bad-assery. I enjoyed how the author didn’t immediately make Margrete overpowered. Margrete struggled with using her powers throughout the book which gave it a more realistic feel (of course as realistic as a fantasy novel can be LOL). In other words, it was nice that the author didn’t give her characters all the plot armor!
Overall, I feel so honored to have gotten this ARC copy and I truly, absolutely adored this book. It was so well written and even though it had been essentially a year since I read the first book, the author did a stellar job in giving us enough detail and recall in this book so we could easily pick up from where we left off!
Again, a huge thank you to the author for sending me this ARC for an honest review!!
“I forgive your words. But you’re no longer the lonely king who isolates himself and pushes everyone away, and I’m certainly not the same woman who first came to these shores.” She cupped his cheek, and he immediately leaned into her palm, closing his eyes. “From now on, we move forward as one.”
Wow, what an amazing continuation to the Azantian Trilogy. I absolutely adored The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea and was so excited to read this sequel. Margrete continues to impress me with her growth and character development. She’s a heroine I truly want to root for! Bash is sexy as ever. His storyline in this continuation of book 1 was so unexpected, but it worked so well with the story. I had no clue what was going to happen. But honestly, those two are so adorable together!! The introduction of Darius to the POV chapters really upped the tension and he was one of those characters I couldn’t tell if I wanted to love, hate or pity. The challenges of the mysterious island were so “Catching Fire-esq” I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I appreciate a book that keeps me enthralled and questioning what the plot and characters are going to do. I don’t even know what to say about that ending. It was CRAZY. Margrete is about to go full badass on these people and I cannot wait for book 3!
First of all I want to thank Katherine for gifting me an ARC of On These Wicked Shores in exchange for an honest review. Secondly, I NEED the third book after that ending!! But we will be getting teasers for the third coming up to it’s release, so I do hope Katherine doesn’t press charges for internet stalking 😂.
On These Wicked Shores picks up where the first book ended and since it’s a trilogy and second book syndrome is a thing, I was a little worried I won’t lie to you. But I shouldn’t have! If anything this book is better than the first, with more action, more twists and more development. It was honestly so good.
The writing style is easy to read and the flow of the book was amazing. I didn’t quite know where the book was going at any time and I liked how we had a new setting which added to the overall storyline. And the plot twists at the end of the chapters just had me wanting more. The story and the timings of the twists were very well thought out.
I don’t really have anything I think could have been improved on tbh. I do wish we could see more of Margrete and her sister, I actually thought she was going to hide in the boat at one point. I think people might be a little disappointed with the long distance, shall we say, between Margrete and Bash but I actually think it was needed for their own personal growth and that of their relationship. It allowed the two to explore themselves without any distractions or guilt.
Overall, I loved this book more than the first and cannot wait for the next one!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for granting me an arc of On These Wicked Shores, and apologies for the late review.
Margrete and Bash are back with a new adventure. After the events of the last book and the release of the demons on the world, Bash and Margrete set sail for the human world, intent on slaying the escaped demons and saving the innocent souls that live there. Fate has other things in mind.
A fierce storm wreaks their boat and the two lovers find themselves separated on an island intent on breaking them down. Margrete searches for Bash with the help of Bay and the remaining survivors, but they find themselves subjected to seemingly impossible and brutal trials. Trials that not everyone will walk away from.
If that isn't all, the two find themselves changing in inexplicable ways and Margrete finds herself earning the unwanted attractions of a god, while Bash comes to terms with a truth that could tear down everything he's ever known.
