While the Wolf’s Away by Terry Spear: The author pens a paranormal romantic suspense novel with a sultry, steamy, and tension filled story in the White Wolf series mainly set in and around Ely, Minnesota.

Arctic wolf David Davis and his friends and private investigator partners are making a new life for themselves in northern Minnesota, away from the tyrannical pack leader who exploited them. Elizabeth Simpson, a member of that pack in the Northwest Territories, Canada, helped David escape. However, the pack leader won’t let her go despite shunning her. Can David and Elizabeth find a way to get together?

Elizabeth and David are relatable and likeable. Elizabeth is willing to help others even when it costs her position in the pack. She is caring, organized, supportive, and encouraging, and she wants to do more with her life. David’s vulnerability lies in controlling his shifting since he was not born a wolf shifter. Otherwise, he is a great private investigator, friendly, and thoughtful. The antagonist pack leader in Canada is Kintail. He’s controlling, demanding, greedy for power, and is a despot. There’s a great cast of secondary characters providing support or opposition. Readers of the series will have met some of them in earlier books in the series. This lends continuity and familiarity and pulls the reader more deeply into the lives of the various characters. However, several new characters play also play pivotal roles.

Terry Spear has a way of drawing readers into her novels quickly as she weaves another volume involving friends, family, romance, anxiety, suspense, and multiple types of danger. Relationships drive the narrative and the dynamics among the characters was one of the most compelling aspects of the story. The tale starts calmly, and then escalates into a tension-filled section followed by a chance for a breather that is filled with angst regarding Kintail and his plans. The stressful ending showdown didn’t pan out the way I expected, but I liked the ending epilogue.

While this one was somewhat light on action, Spear provides enough nuance, romance, suspense, and surprise developments to keep readers engaged and give the story depth. I also enjoyed learning more about the types of cases the private investigators accepted. The author’s usual exquisite world-building brought the northern Minnesota woods to life.

Overall, the plot was engrossing, clever, and full of romance and suspense. The prose was fluid, making this a quick read. If you enjoy contemporary paranormal romantic suspense novels, then this author may be one you will enjoy as much as I do. I am looking forward to reading more of her books.

DNF @20%. I do enjoy shifter stories, but the writing and plot were not my cup of tea. The dialogue felt off and unnatural. Maybe I'd have been more invested if I had read the previous books.

I think what made this one was so good was how the pack welcomed Elizabeth and Sheri in. Sure Elizabeth was probably going to mate David, but that didn't matter at all to them. They were happy to have them join the pack and found a way for them to help. That was shown later on as well when Mel and others were folded into the pack, along with all the events that everyone went to. I also loved how the pack had some big hitters behind them as Elizabeth and Sheri's old pack came after them trying to bully them.

I’ve read a highlander novel by Terry Spears that I thought was enjoyable without the narration. So having experienced this author and I do occasionally like paranormal stories, I thought “While the Wolf’s Away” would be an interesting read. Well to say the least, I think I need to do a catch up to this book #3. It was hard for me to get into the story as there was too much an overplay on Kintail as the villain, David’s repetitive calls, and Elizabeth wait on trying to escape for me. Otherwise, this was a heated paranormal romance that included a host of interesting characters, much tension, twists, and surprises. The pace for me was a bit slow in some places that I almost DNF. However, because of the plot that engrossed me with suspense and romance that I typically look for in paranormal romances, I trudged on to the end. This was a quick read for me as it kept my interest for the most part. Well written story but the jury is out on a recommendation until after I read the others in the series.

I jumped in to read While the Wolf's Away, the 4th book in the White Wolf series without any issues. I liked what the blurb had to offer but in all honesty, it was the cover that sold me to try author Terry Spears. I enjoyed the premise of the story and the plot, but… Yes there is a but. I just felt meh about the characters. I’ve read a lot of shifter books and I have certain expectations when it comes to them. I like my characters to be strong, the emotions to tug at me, I want them to jump out at me. It didn’t get that from any of them. I just couldn’t engage with any of them to be honest. I did finish the book not because I wanted to know what was going to happen but because I hate starting a book and not finishing it. It wasn’t a bad book, it just didn’t have that spark for me.

Fans of the author will probably enjoy this book. I will be passing on any past or future titles in the series.

Terry Spears fans have been waiting to see if the long distance romance between Arctic wolf shifters David Davis and Elizabeth Simpson will ever be resolved. Elizbeth had helped David and his friends escape from her controlling pack leader after they were bitten and turned into shifters. But once Elizabeth returned to care for her dying gradnmother, the pack would not let her leave to join David and his friends in their newly formed pack. Can they manage to pull off a second escape and live happily ever after together?

Readers have already seen the stories of David's packmates - Owen, Gavin, and Cameron have all found their mates and the small pack has expanded to include children and the families of those mates. We have also seen the alliances formed between the pack and the United Shifter Force (including jaguar shifters) and other wolf packs. Now we finally go back to the beginning of the White Wolf stories with the pack that turned the four friends and started them on this new way of life. Bringing resolution to the animosity between the two packs and finally giving David a companion and love of his own so that he is not odd man out is something fans have wondered about. Will it finally happen? And even if that couple is made official, with Elizabeth's friend Sherri now in the area, we may see more intrigue as single wolves try to win her affection.

Spears takes many details into consideration. If you were an Arcic wolf shifter, where in North America would it be safe for you to live without drawing undue attention if you were seen in your fur coat? How would a pack of shifters feel about losing young female members to another pack? How much of their wolf instincts and human possessiveness would control their actions? This installment in her growing shifter romance world may not have as much physcial confrontation and danger as some of the other books, but the characters still face difficult situations and threats to their happiness and safety. Readers will be rooting for David and Elizabeth to overcome the obstacles to their life together while also watchign for hints of which other character may be headed for their own book soon.

I admit I’ve been waiting for David and Elizabeth’s story. While the Wolf’s Away was everything I’d hoped their eventual story would be. David and his friends were turned during a hunting trip years ago now. They’ve found a new home, a new pack extended family in Minnesota. But Elizabeth, the woman, a royal wolf shifter who helped them escape from the domineering monster who turned and tried to imprison them returned to the pack because of her ill grandmother.

Since then she has been shunned by the pack, set up as a scapegoat for the vile pack leader’s pleasure, and has always wondered what happened to the man she helped, the man she was certain was her fated mate. Now, she and another female from the pack are about to make their escape… and she has no idea what her future holds, yet there is no longer a good reason to allow the bullying abuse of her pack leader to control her life.

While there isn’t the huge overpowering intense action and danger that I’ve come to expect from these stories, there certainly is a unique to this group danger, a vile, nasty piece of trash villain to take down, an escape fraught with tensions and danger… and a reunion that was all I could have asked for. We’ll meet up with several familiar faces, get caught up on years apart, and discover new members of this group who will most likely have their own story told one day.

I enjoyed every moment spent back in this unique and large world. If you love a good, solid paranormal romance, love shifters, and enjoy edge-of-your-seat danger while rooting for a fated couple to finally find their forever future… then this one is perfect for you.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

I really wish I had better things to say about this one, but I constantly felt like the author couldn't make up their mind about what type of book they were writing. Is it a romance with thriller elements? Is it a cozy mystery that just happens to star werewolves? It's those, more, and never really anything at all. I love books that contain elements from different genres because it makes the story feel more real and alive, I just wish for there to be a unifying element beyond the lead couple's constant moping about not being able to be together even after they've already gotten together.
On quick telling, the story of two wolves finally getting a chance to be together and making a life for themselves away from the abusive Alpha of one of them sounds fantastic. On paper, there are way too many elements and subplots that make the big leadup to the big baddies showing up and how that's resolved almost anti-climactic. All the different threads made it so that I was more interested in getting to know every other character besides the main couple. Not exactly a great reading experience.
I haven't read previous volumes in this series and it's possible that affected my enjoyment of this one. I'm fully accepting that not all series consist of books that you can jump right in, but the least I expect is to care for the story of the couple I'm reading about even when I don't understand the world they inhabit.

Happy thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the early read!

Elizabeth Alpine has been ostracized from her pack for several years. She came back when her grandmother became ill. Elizabeth still wants to leave the domineering pack leaders way of running the pack. David Davis and his friends were turned into wolves while on a hunting trip to save his life. He fell in love with the woman that helped them escape man who turned them. David is determined to get be reunited with her. While each are living their own lives, Elizabeth and David will be wondering what is happening to each other While the Wolf’s Away.

While the Wolf’s Away is the third book in Terry Spear’s White Wolf series. She takes a recently turned wolf who is hoping the woman he loves still feels the same way he does. A woman who is a royal wolf and an outcast in her pack must deal with a pack leader who is domineering. These two characters will face separation and wonder if they will still want to be together if or when they’re reunited. Two people will have to find their way through years of separation to find hopefully true love. An extra person on a rescue comes as a surprise. Two women become helpful to their new pack quickly. . While the Wolf’s Away has suspense, romance, a rescue, confrontation and several types of tension. This story has separated lovers trying to be reunited when a controlling pack leader doesn’t want to let any members to leave. A daring escape after a death in the family just maybe the chance they need to be reunited but there is a complication. Terry Spear’s While the Wolf’s Away has suspense, romance, a rescue, confrontation and two people who want to find out if they’re meant to be together. Terry Spear writes a romantic, tension filled story that keeps the reader on the edge with what will happen next. She keeps you wondering on when the confrontation will come and what will happen once it comes. As the two main characters get closer you are cheering for them to find true love. I look forward to more stories from this favorite author and can’t wait for the next White Wolf book.

David Davis knows that he has to be patient but he needs Elizabeth Alpine to get way from her pack as soon as possible. They both know that the pack leader Kintail won't just let Elizabeth leave without a fight. The day has come for Elizabeth to leave to meet up with David again but there is a problem as her best friend Sheri wants to come with and they both know that they only have one chance at escaping.
David is so happy that Elizabeth is home now he has waited so long for them to start their lives together. They aren't mated yet and he is willing to wait until she is ready.
Elizabeth & Sheri fit in really well with the new pack and they both enjoy working in the office as they will both be training as PI one day.
But the old pack isn't giving up just yet they want the women back and they will cause trouble if needed but they don't realise that David & the pack have friends that will always back them. What will Elizabeth decide to do about the situation with David is she ready for that next step?
A good read. Loved the characters especially the jaguar shifter. Love how they always are willing to help everyone as they know what it was like to be a new shifter. I am glad that David & Elizabeth got a chance at a happy life. Will have to see what happens with Sheri.
Thank you Netgalley & the publisher for the ARC copy. This is my voluntary review.

Elizabeth and David are both Wolf shifters and lovers. They were together in a pack run by Rintail until it became unbearable to David and his fellows. Elizabeth helped them escape the pack but she has had to stay to take care of her failing grandmother. When her grandmother passes she puts in place her plan for getting out without being seen to leave. She is very scared Rintail will not let her leave. Or that he will come after her. As of course, he does.

I love Terry Spear’s books. And I looked forward to this one. However, it felt more like an extended epilogue than a new romance. I don’t think this is a good standalone book. If I’d known the stories of some of the secondary characters, seen what David and his fellow had to go through in Rintail’s pack and how hard it was to get away I might have felt more kinship with him and with Elizabeth. I’d have had more emotional investment in the book. As it was, I just could not relate.

To be fair, I plan to read the first book in this series to see if those back-connections are what was missing for me in this book. Like I said, I usually enjoy Ms. Spear’s books

This is the third book in the series, and I really wish I’d at least read the first book. That said, I enjoyed the book even as a standalone but was really curious about the back story of this interesting pack.

I liked seeing how a pack of newly turned wolves created a more democratic power structure. They are at the stage where they still have problems controlling their shifts at times. Luckily there are a couple of Royals, pure bred shifters who have total control of their shifts.

The story focuses on David and Elizabeth, who met when David was turned, but the pack leader was a dictator and they wanted to return home to Seattle. Elizabeth helped David and Owen, another newly turned shifter escape back to Seattle, although the new pack relocated to Ely, MN when the established Seattle pack chased them out. Elizabeth returned to stay with her elderly grandmother, planning to escape and return to David.

Thank you NetGalley for providing an eARC of this book; this is my honest opinion.

Written by Terry Spear, this novel follows David and Elizabeth, two werewolves who were separated when David had to run away from the pack, and Elizabeth stayed behind to care for her dying grandmother. Will they ever be together?

This is the 4th book in Spears’ White Wolf series, and if you are looking for a werewolf romance, then this definitely could be a good choice for you, with a couple of understandings.

It’s a werewolf novel, and as a werewolf fan I should have loved this novel, but instead I was just frustrated with the main characters making terrible decisions and not doing they had agreed to or following their own plans.

I just… the first third of the book was that and I, personally, just couldn’t get over that. To the point that, at one point, I didn’t want the main characters to stay together. I wanted to see them find other people.

That probably isn’t a good thing to hope for in a romance.

The book is well written, the characters well flushed out, I just didn’t like the plot.

I did receive a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Glad to see David finally gets his mate!

David has lived Elizabeth since she helped him and Owen escape from her pack. She just couldn't leave her only family, her grandmother behind. So Elizabeth goes back to her pack. However, her pack leader has her shunned for helping the two men escape. He has her watched constantly. When her grandmother dies, she sees her chance to make her way to David. She thought they could be mates, but wanted to spend some time with him first. That starts a while lot more excitement than she expected!

The pace is fast and the tone is hopeful with a character oriented storyline that has some action and some steamy scenes. The characters are vibrant and engaging. You do want to read the books in this series in order, starting with Legend of the White Wolf and then numbers 1 through 3 of this series. But you may want to read the Jaguar shifter series and the United Shifter series books before this one! If you like complex situations, action and superb characters, then this is for you! Enjoy!

This book is about a wolf shifter bidding her time so that she can leave her current pack for a better one. It’s explained in the book that she helped free a fellow pack member who she had strong feeling for but had to return to help with her grandmother. In the pack she is in the alpha wolf tends to be extremely heavy handed with his ruling which cause it to be an hostile environment.
I really wanted to enjoy this one I believe it had so much potential but it just didn’t do it for me. The book didn’t really captivate me or take me into the story with the characters. How everything played out seemed a little to easy and it have a few scenes that felt unnecessary or filler. It wasn’t necessarily a bad read but it wasn’t amazing either. I did like the characters a lot and the concept of the book. I’m willing to give her books another try. I really want to like this author. I would have to give this book 2.5 stars.

(3.5)Loved me some Grandma. Loved the relationship that David built with her, even if she was Elizabeths grandma. Respect, feisty, family. It was great to see some characters from other books/series. David was turned, and like other turned wolves had trouble controlling his shifts in the beginning and will have to shift with the full moon, Elizabeth and her best friend Sheri are royals. They are not forced to shift and can control their shift. It was awesome to watch Elizabeth and Sheri grow as they see what a warm and welcome pack is like as opposed to a controlling mean pack leader. There are some twists, and lots of steam as Elizabeth and David work towards becoming mates. I love the world does not just revolve around the wolf shifts, one breed. This is a great read for those getting their feet wet in the shifter world. Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

I really enjoyed the writer's writing style and overall, the story was interesting, intricate and a very different kind of shifter story than I am used to reading (This is my first book in the series). This is a well thought out world, well detailed and I was interested in the idea of the "Royal" wolves and how the turned shifters differed. This story follows David and Elizabeth who were separated as Elizabeth had to take care of her ailing grandmother (Who I adored in the snippets of her). Their story started earlier in the series, I presume, and this is finally their HEA. Admittedly, it felt long, a little plodding and I don't know why they waited so long for each other and yet, didn't really finish their mating for so long? It was an odd arc to the story- perhaps this story would have been better served as a novella. But still, great writing, well detailed and very imaginative. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the early read.

While the Wolf’s Away by Terry Spear 2.5 stars

David Davis (Arctic Wolf) is waiting for Elizabeth Simpson to leave her old wolf pack to join him and his fellow Arctic Wolves in their new life. He thinks Elizabeth is his mate and can’t wait to get her out from a bad and abusive situation. But there is danger lurking …

I’ve read wolf books by Terry Spear before – the Red Wolves and Grey Wolves. This Arctic Wolf series is a new branch. I found this book to be slow at times and not very engaging. I almost gave up twice, but I did manage to finish it. The bad wolf alpha was mostly a bully, which gave a weak impression of peril. This was not a great example of her wolf books. The last one I read “Wolf to the Rescue” (novella) was much better.

Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for this ARC.

Wolf shifter David and his friends are settling in to a new life and business as private investigators.  They escaped from a bad Alpha with the help of a woman that David wants for his mate.  Unfortunately she stayed behind because that's where she was needed most.

When her grandmother no longer needs her,  Elizabeth hopes to escape her pack and join David.  The Alpha suspects that she will try and is waiting to stop her.

This is a sexy paranormal romance filled with very interesting characters.  Lots of tension and surprises.  You will meet many of the characters from the previous books in the series,  and I personally think it's better to read them in order.  There is a lot of happiness and freedom to be won by joining the newer,  more democratic pack.

Great fun.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review of the book.

I would rate this one 3.5 stars. It was a quick read that I enjoyed, but it didn't stand out to me. I liked hearing about the David and his pack again; seeing what they are up to and how they are handling being shifters. Overall this book lacked something to me. I don't know if it is because they already knew each other, but I was looking for more out of the story. My favorite parts of the book were hearing about prior characters and how they were doing, not David and Elizabeth's storyline.

I'd recommend reading this if you have read the rest of Terry's wolf shifter series, to be up to date for the next release.

Arctic wolf shifter Elizabeth's grandmother passes and she can now escape the pack in Canada to be with her love, David, in Ely, Minnesota. She just wasn't planning on her best friend coming with her. And when Kintail, the Canadian pack leader tracks them down, he just may get a lesson on being an alpha.

I love Terry's books and this one is no exception. The book's well-written with well-rounded characters, some of whom you'll like and others you won't. The story has romance and long distance love between mates with the magic of waiting. It also has intrigue and suspense that'll keep you on the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed visiting the white wolves again and am eager for more of Terry's books. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.

Interesting paranormal series featuring Royal (born) shifters and turned (bitten) shifters. There's a little bit of danger/suspense, but it's mostly a romance. I haven't read the previous books in this series, so I felt a little like I had walked into the middle of a movie that had been playing for awhile. I was able to catch up and follow along without too much trouble. I enjoyed meeting David, Elizabeth, and their packmates, and reading about the trouble from their previous pack. It's a little light and fluffy, but interesting overall. I'm sure I'll check out the next book in the series. 3.25 stars

I usually enjoy this author's books, but for me, this one was just ok. I really wanted to love it. Who doesn't love a storyline about getting away from a bad leader and starting over somewhere where you all will b safe? But it just fell flat for me. The story seemed extremely slow and I had a hard time getting into it and finishing it. I didn't love the characters. They were just ok for me. At times David just got on my nerves. The chemistry was super good. But on a whole, this was just an ok read for me. Some people will probably love it, unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. I will try again with the next one and hope it's just a one off for me.

I ended up reading this book which is the fourth in the series. I would have liked to read the other books first, however, I didn't have the time to read them before I got to read this one. I have to admit that David and Elizabeth were good characters and the best thing about shifter novels, or at least my favourite thing about shifter novels is the way the pack always has each others back. Without going into too much detail, this book hit all that for me.

If you're going to read this novel, and you're like me, you'll want to read the first three books before you get to this one. I just got an ARC from NetGalley and wanted to read it.

This was a very sweet, fun read. Though I cannot say it stood out from other shifter novels out there. Some characters fell flat to me but I loved grandma Ada. She was a wonderful character and her relationship with Elizabeth was enjoyable. Most of the drama and fight of the story is pretty basic as well but the Elizabeth and David’s romance is rather fluffy, so it makes for an easy read if you want to delve into a shifter universe.

David and Elizabeth are separated because an unscrupulous pack leader will not allow Elizabeth to leave. After her grandmother's death, David and friends rescue her and Sherri, who insisted on leaving with her. The gaining pack employs both women and welcome them. Readers will enjoy the camaraderie and fellowship of those in the pack. There's plenty of room for growth in the series. Sherri seems to have her own story soon.

WHILE THE WOLF’S AWAY, book 4 of Terry Spear’s White Wolf series, focuses on the relationships and the dynamics among the wolf characters with the plot escalating with a rivalry wolf pack going after David Davis’ pack to reclaim the two women. The cast of secondary characters from previous books show up for a standoff. Terry Spear mixes sizzling passion and page-turning suspense in this series.

Man, I was just terrible bored. I DNF'd after about 30% of the way through because I believe that if I've read that far and didn't enjoy it then it isn't worth slogging through the rest. I just didn't feel much chemistry and I didn't think the worldbuilding was great either. Overall, quite disappointed but no judgment if you did enjoy this book.

This was an entertaining, well-written book. I felt like I should have read some other books to fully understand everything that was going on and it took a while for me to get into it. Eventually it held my interest and I wanted to find out what was going to happen. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others.

I love shifter and paranormal romance - they are usually my go-to. This book did not disappoint, but it was a little slow. I liked the premise that she was the one that help rescue him, which usually is the opposite. But it was well played and I really liked it. As I said, it was a little slow at first but then it picked up!
