Sarah K. L. Wilson is a USA Today Bestselling author who writes fantasy stories featuring practical heroes & heroines in the most impractical circumstances. She loves writing because it is the only way to make a living and give back to the world when your primary skill is an overactive imagination and a tendency toward violent daydreams. Sarah can be found in the outdoors of Northern Ontario with her young boys and beloved husband, reading a book, or fending off her husband's pet turkeys with a straw broom. You can find Sarah's books in paperback, hardcover, ebook and audiobook and they have also been translated into Italian, German, and (very soon) Turkish. Please, do, enjoy the read!
So, I am a fan of intelligent magical creatures. Interestingly enough, the first fantasy book I recall reading was David and the Phoenix. A few years ago, I began reading Kindle ebooks in earnest. After the obligatory Potterverse binge, I began searching for authors who didn't write all dragobs as dumb violent animals. Quite a few authors were suggested...one of which was Ms. Sarah K. L. Wilson and her Dragon School world. I fell in love with her dragons and the flawed but stong of character humans she placed in the world.
After reading the 3 stories set in the dragon school world, I moved on to others. I read many other authors and worlds. Eventually I read her posts of a world with Phoenix in it. As each omnibus became available, I bought them, intending to read them in hopes of finding a new world. After a variety of types of genres were read, I returned this week to a new Wilson world. Once again, her choice of main character was one with restrictions that were seemingly insurmountable. But I was captured by the story and I found it difficult to set the book aside to attend to other life responsibilities.
I have finished this first omnibus. It is more than I hoped for. If you like to root for what some might think of as an underdog, and are not put off by stories where nearly every effort to set things right go wrong, then I encourage you to read this volume and see if you too are entranced.
A very different and enlightening look at phoenixes! Plus, the author again brings forth the fact that those who appear to be physically challenged does not make them worth less, even when it comes to being heroic. For young adult readers, I think this particular viewpoint makes this series even more moving.
I’m tired at this particular moment, so I’m going to sign off this review and try to get in at least part of the next season. May you find these books as enjoyable as I have. Best way to start is the Dragon School series. However you chose to read in whatever order… Enjoy!!!
Thrust into an adventure. Attempting to free self from old life.
I adore this series! The characters are so lovable and well-developed. The world is intricately detailed. The storyline is captivating. I love every aspect of this series - the adventures, the real-life applications, the struggles.
"fires of the heart" "Without the burning there would be no soaring." "light in darkness and hope in heart" "never alone"
Phoenix Heart is the latest region of Dragon School World, and like the others, it is fascinating and exciting.
Sersha has lived through a lot and is mute because of it. Her phoenix helps her ignite the fires of courage and loyalty within her. Each fuels the other.
As with Sarah K L Wilson's other Dragon School books, you won't want to put this down!
While the writing and pacing was decent, I got frustrated with the secondary characters to the point that I could no longer tolerate them. I really wanted to strangle them all. Especially the chosen one, I didn't like her at all. I found the MC too passive and was constantly walked all over which was annoying. I only liked the Phoenix but not enough to keep reading. I'm disappointed because I loved the idea of a Phoenix rider.
Our of the mouths of babes, mercy will ensue. With limited and unknown skills would a hero emerge. Two characters, one good, honest and benevolent; the other hateful and merciless would decide the fate of the known world. I have always been on the side of honesty and mercy. Hopefully, the next box set will prove me right and justice will prevail.
A young mute woman nursing injured people at her families' Inn becomes the heart of a phoenix and a phoenix rider. Along with her teammate they must try to protect her cousin who is a chosen one of legion. Believable characters in magical encounters while learning to use new magic of their own. Good read.
I will admit, there were times I wanted to close this book and put it away. But, it really wasn't that bad because I didn't. My problem was the Fledgling was just that, a beginner. She didn't know anything about what it meant to be a Flame Rider. So, I kept at it. Now, I want the next volume!
This series is full of more righteous fantastic creatures and there incredibly courageous human partners! A wonderful adventure. I hope the rest of the series is written!
The blush of first love, that grows so deep. A slow burn for the ages.... I die.
"I didn’t realize I was shivering until Judicus took my hand and held it between his. “Here, let me warm this. You’re too cold,” he said, and it felt both kind and attentive and made me feel awkward all at once."
