The alien I've been paired with is huge. Angry. And not nice at all.
Everything I dislike, even if he is the handsomest man I've ever seen.

Alien. Whatever.
Unfortunately, we're going to have to work together to survive this game.

With every day that passes, I see a little bit more past the wall he's built around himself.

Arrogant, bossy. Sure.

But now there's something more.

Strong arms and a rock-hard striped body. Gentle fingers, a well-hidden tenderness, and an overwhelming hunger for my touch.

Suddenly it's not just my life under constant attack.

How can I protect my heart?

Written in first person by AVA YORK, Offsides is the 3rd book in the THE ALIEN GAMES series and switches between the perspectives of Captain Zelgor of Kirtax and Lena of Earth. The series is set where 5 humans and 5 brutes pair up together to compete as contestants on Intergalactic Love Death Match, season 34, ran by a species known as the Snaghians. The first couple to make it to the Altar of Freedom - at the top of Central Mountain - on the vast continent of Tikalc, on the planet Garglax II (what a mouthful), wins their freedom. It's basically an alien version of the hunger games.

Lena studied environmental design and wanted to become an urban planner to help design the cities that would allow Humans to live in harmony with nature before she was abducted. It was her environmental studies on Earth that helped the pair navigate the terrain upon their arrival in the middle of a forest.

Captain Zelgor was from the species known as the Kirtax and captained his starship called "The Snaughians’ Bane." Several species came together in an attempt to rebel against the Snaughians. It was during that battle that mercenaries boarded and disabled the Snaughians’ Bane. Zelgor tried to fight them to the death and go down with his ship, but they captured him and placed him into the contest. Because Zelgor spent the majority of his life on a spaceship, being on a planet took some acclimation. Kitax were originally humanoids with blue skin, but a mutation changed them to having orange skin with red stripes (kind of like a tiger). Zelgor could jump really high and was able to detect nearby danger through some super sense (at least, I think he did. That could've easily been Jasek's talent instead 🤷🏼‍♀️). To say Zelgor was an "entitled, obnoxious, whiner baby pain-in-the-ass" at the beginning of this book would be an understatement.

In the 1st book, Emily and Ralkor had the most fans, which supplied the pair with helpful gifts that made their journey super easy. In the second book, Charlotte and Jasek had a few fans, but also a lot of trolls, which sent the pair unhelpful gifts and pranks that taunted them. In this book, Zelgor and Lena had ZERO fans. The producers pitied the pair for their lack of popularity and allowed them to keep whatever items they had on their person during their abductions as a way to help even the playing field, since they were predicted to receive NO help from fans along their journey. I think they did gain a fan or two as their journey progressed, and were sent a few helpful items, but it was nothing like the prior couples.

First intercourse took place at the 38% mark. For once, the author didn't make us wait through more than half the book just to get a taste of what we readers are here for in the first place. 🥳 Oh, and of course, Zelgor had a thick monster cock. We were treated to three separate sexual encounters, all of which were hot and steamy perfection.

I loathed Zelgor's character in the beginning. He was too entitled and spent WAY too much time wallowing in self pity while Lena carried both their weight by keeping his ass fed and alive. I understand that he was embarrassed by his lack of preparation and shitty situation, but man-tf-up. Zelgor was supposed to be the tough brute, the protector, the reliable giant for Lena to lean on, but was a hinderence instead. How did he even earn his Captain position in the first place? Eventually, he snapped out of it, becoming helpful instead of angry, combative and argumentative all the time. He stewed over not being "in charge" like a spoiled child that had his ball taken away. It took Lena verbally putting him in check before Zelgor straightened up, but at least he got there. Personally, I think Lena forgave him a little too easily. I never would've allowed myself to get attached to such a hothead, but Lena obviously has more patience than me. Or maybe his cock was totally worth the mantude. 😅🫣

Another thing missing from this book was the connection with the planet's wildlife. Emily and Ralkor rescued and raised 2 cubs then captured and trained 2 deer as horses. Charlotte and Jasek adopted Fishguts, a carnivorous plant that saved their lives on numerous occasions, and also received a talking Jersey Milk Cow as a gift from their trolls. But Zelgor and Lena didn't add any pets to their story, which seemed to make the adventure more dull IMO. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Both characters were just too forgettable. The redundancy of their journey was a definite snooze-fest. Wake up, eat, travel, hunt, camp, shower, sleep, repeat. I read that pattern so many times throughout the chapters that I struggled to keep my eyes open. Boooooring. But great reading material just before bed. 😂

Overall, I recommend the read. It was the perfect length (even could have been a hair shorter). It had the perfect amount of romance and adventure. I worried that the hunger games knockoff would lose my interest, but it kept my attention the entire way (well, maybe not this book in particular). I found a few things repetitive and unnecessary, but not enough to take anything away from the overall plot. There were more editorial errors in this book, but they didn't distract, aside from taking a moment to make quick notes (Jasek was referred to as "Tarek" at one point, which was confusing until I figured out who the author meant). I can't wait to dive into the next book of this series... hopefully it will redeem itself after this disappoinment.

Loved it!

Loving the Intergalactic Love Death Match reality/game show concept. The announcers are so cheesy and obnoxious, but luckily the fans/spectators send some pretty fantastic gifts for the couples to use. Lena and Zelgor are the latest contestants on ILDM. Zelgor is full of fury toward the Snaghians (who kidnap and force people into their game show) because they’re also in the habit of destroying entire planets, like Zelgor’s. So he is in an epicly foul mood when he finds himself captured and stranded with a tiny insignificant human. Lena isn’t happy about their situation either, but captain-winey-pants is pretty much dead weight to her until he gets his head out of his rear. Luckily she has some survivalist experience which she uses to keep them both alive until Zelgor can get out of his own way and become a productive member of their team.

I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Offsides . I love this series . It is interesting and action packed , Suspenseful definitely entertaining . This is the third in the Alien Games series . Lena a human taken from Earth finds herself paired with Captain Zelgor . An alien that really does not know the first thing about survival , as he has spent his life so far aboard a Spacecraft . While they attempt to survive and get along . They find Their intense attraction to each other . They will need the brains and skills they have between them to make their way through Alien Games . Unfortunately they are not the most popular of the couples . This story is wonderful and the characters are fantastic .
I highly recommend reading .

Lena and Zelgor

Contestant pair three have no fans so they have to scrounge everything for themselves. Lena has had Earth wilderness survival class but Zelgor has spent his whole like on a starship. He can’t believe he ,a captain, has been captured and forced into this game put on by his mortal enemies.

Once he gets over his whiney tantrum he slowly learns from Lena. They survive on their own until they win a challenge and get a Mobil manufacturing machine.

Lena is very focused on survival and slowly gets Zelgor to start focusing on it too. They are another good couple that learn to work and survive together.

An interesting story that takes reality shows to the max. Evidently humans aren’t the only ones that love them. Unfortunately for a few that means they a taken and become contestants in game that could kill them. The two main characters in this one are nothing alike. She is human and very bright and with a knack of ingenuity. He was a space captain and an alien. His abilities may just come as a surprise throughout the story. They will face dangers they’ve never seen before but it will bring them together to survive.

Odd couple

Zelcor is a stuffed shirt alien warship captain who has lost his latest battle. Lena is a tough girl who takes no guff. These two comprise Team No Fans - the underdog pairing in the survivor-type alien reality show they never volunteered for. Survival depends on mutual cooperation and pleasing the audience. Things look grim for them, but somehow they manage to form a team, a friendship, and more… good entertaining reading.

Lena is paired with Zelgor in the games they were thrown in. He is a starship captain who was caught and she is one of the human woman who was abducted. He is grumpy and not cooperative at first, however, we find out why and she helps him. I enjoyed how she brings him out of his shell and the love he brings into her life, such as it is, and the hot scenes. I am voluntarily leaving my review of this ARC.

I hoping you readers Wii like this series as much as I do!

Zelgor and Lena is another amazing story and once again once they got over what happened to themselves and worked together things got better. Ava York knows exactly when to finish a story and leave her audience hanging. Hopefully not for long. I personally am really enjoying this series!

😳

Ok so no real funny stuff to right home about in this book. It was ok. The thing that got me was the word boinking!?!?!? It’s like wtf. Who literally says that 😆. The story was good. It’s another couple to add. Two more to go. I tell ya. Book 2 was my fave. But onward to book 4.

The Action Continues

A third couple has joined the games, bringing more determination to win. Lena and Zelgor got off to a rough start but soon form a cohesive team. With lots of action, snarky dialogue and lots of steam, this is another exciting addition to the series. How will it all end? I can’t wait to find out.

Bbbbboooooooorrrrriiiiinnnnnnggggggg! Frankly her attitude and behavior was 10x worse than his and compared to the first 2 books the action was minuscule. I wish readers would understand that descriptive and plentiful sex scenes does not a good story make. It’s supposed to compliment the story not be the story….that is called erotica, not romance.

I struggled to stay engaged. Supposedly the male MC was the a$$ but really, she was the one jumping down his throat with every statement he dared utter (he was sulky more than anything). She did eventually apologize for her hyper reactivity and he decided to leave some bitterness behind, but I found I really didn’t care about their “romance” at that point.

While there’s physical attraction between the two main characters, the male alien character leaves much to be desired. He doesn’t grasp the concept of survival. The feisty, clever human female however, understands it all too well. It’s a fight for their lives

Mr. Whinney Pants

Offsides is not as humorous as the first two books in the series. The hero, Zelgor starts off as an egotistical, consumed by rage character. Lena helps him deal with his grief and “walk forward to live”. It is too much seriousness and not enough action for me.

Unfortunately, this book was no where near as funny as the previous two. The story didn't really catch me, and it seems like all the competitors are being given toys to make everything too easy.

Another great read!

Zelgor and Lena actually started out almost hating each other, that was a fun time. Once they started working together things changed for the better. On to the next book!

This one fell flat for me. I didn't particularly care for the characters. The relationship development was, well, it wasn't there. They felt one way about each other, and then another way, like a switch was flipped. It felt like not much happened.

Offsides

Zelgor and Lena are the polar opposite of a happy couple. Zelgor was a spaceship Captain whose word was law and Lena really needed to take him down a few pegs.

The hero doesn't help at first and just keeps saying he is a captain of a star ship. Eventually his behavior improves and he starts helping them find food and shelter.

reluctantly

That is what I thought of when the pair was introduced.
They are forced to go to planet and either work together or die.
