Lake Christensen dominates McCamden Prep, but Stella McMichaels doesn't let anyone tell her what to do.
It only took a single night of horror to transform Lake Christensen into the sullen colt he's become. But considering what he witnessed nine years ago, things could've turned out a lot worse. Now Student Government President at McCamden Preparatory High School, Lake rules the corridors with a strong arm and zero tolerance for insubordination.
Forged by a lifetime of mayhem and turmoil, Stella McMichaels doesn't even realize that mischief has become her. And when she arrives, both Lake's unchallenged authority and McCamden Prep's obedient walls get a bitter taste of this skateboarding tomboy's rebellious spirit.
Empowering the students who shuffle at the bottom of the high school totem pole to stand up for themselves, was Stella's way of reminding Lake just how fragile his dominion is - until Lake decides to humble the vixen with a solid dose of bureaucratic discipline.
The terms and conditions are clear, the boundaries have been established.
But as the bargain unfolds and either player's turbulent past comes to light, lines slowly begin to blur. Brutal secrets and shared pains ebb these once-upon-a-time immiscible spirits closer together and before long, what started as an all-out war transforms into an unlikely entanglement of fates.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author and it won’t be the last. Loved her writing! This story had me lost in emotions. My heart ached for both Silas and Cass. They were so young when they first met and when they lost each other. The flashbacks we get throughout the book gives the readers more insight on how attached they were when they were kids. They were the best of friends which made it hurt more in present time when they’re older. I feel like It was fate that brought them together again. Both of them went though 9 years of holding on to each other in their own way while they each went through their own personal hell. I wish we got more to read on what happened with coach Remington and more of their life together in college.
4.5 → Lake and Stella's love story was beautiful; friends to lovers for the win! What made me really appreciate this book was the emotional connection between the characters; it's something I feel like I see less and less in romance books. So I actively seek out books where the connection between characters goes beyond just physicality. The only thing I wish had happened in this book that didn't was to showcase more of their relationship after the reveal (which didn't happen until the last 10% of the book).
Tropes: friends to lovers, sports romance, soulmates, etc.
Man this was such a cute, heart warming, heart shattering, hot, love conquers all, fated mates read. I absolutely loved it. I read V. A. Vikolia’s 2nd book They Call Him Sire and fell in love with it as well so reading this one was a no brainer. So of the two books she has written so far, both have been amazing and top reads for me. I am truly a fan and can not wait to see what she writes next. Definitely my one click author.
This story was so good... it was enthralling and hot with great writing and a wonderful story. I know this is one I will read again and again. This author is a new favorite of mine. Excellent!!!
This book was outstanding, from the laugh out loud Revolution, to the heart wrenching sorrow of Silas losing Cass. Two people who were destined to be together. Stella was badass and Lake so broken, they were beautiful as they found their way back to each other.
OMG…this book left with me with SO MUCH emotion!! I LOVED it so much! I love character development of both Cass & Silas. I’m looking forward to more treasure from V. A. Vikolia.
Wow! That’s one emotional book. So much heartache & secrets! The fate part was nice. Lake certainly had a dark life, but it was Stella life that was the worst. I want Jess & Gabe book.
Wow. I couldn't stop reading. This book is definitelly 5* and hopefully more readers will discover this author. I loved the characters, the story and the writing. Great job.
Lake & Stella are by far one of the best if not THE BEST, literary couples I’ve read in this genre. They are, right off the bat, enemies and that’s clear as day. It’s almost like they can’t help themselves and really it makes for such a chef’s kiss beginning of a story.
I love Harry and how he takes Stella under his wing. I love how they both bond through their nerd sides.
By far one of the best scenes is when Lake throws the football and Stella not only catches it but smoothly transitions out of the catch. Damn girl that was artistic brilliance.
Lake’s experiences with his coach made me nearly throw something. I hate when adults prey on the most innocent of us. I’m glad Lake opens up to Stella and that he tells his parents. That bologna sandwich deserves everything coming her way and more. Karma is a bitch. Just like her.
Then, oh then, the necklaces! The fact that she left the necklace and skateboard keychain at the lake made me squeal with excitement. I kept pleading as I read that Lake would show up and find them. HE DID!!!! He showed up, found them and it all clicked!! Ahhhhhh!!
Now Silas and Cass have found each other once more and even when they didn’t know who each other was, they loved each other. You can’t ask for a better or more beautiful ending to a book can you? I suppose you could but honestly it doesn’t get much better than this.
I look forward to any and all future works that V. A. Vikolia creates. Goodness knows I will never object to reading whatever else she writes.
