I didn’t believe Matteo Grassi was in the mafia. He was just my boss. My super hot, very nice boss. Definitely not a member of the mob. And I went ahead and believed that until the night I was caught him doing something I was never supposed to see. And in doing so, I not only knew without a doubt that Matteo was in the mafia, but also found myself dragged into it as well. As the time went on, my feelings for Matteo became more and more confusing even as it seemed less and less likely that I was going to make it out of this whole situation alive…
Jessica Gadziala is a USA Today bestselling author who lives in rural New Jersey with her parrots, dogs, and an ever-growing collection of houseplants. A lifelong dreamer, she’s been writing stories since childhood and published her first book in 2015. When not at her desk, she’s usually feeding backyard birds, rewatching crime dramas, period pieces, and 90s supernatural TV shows, or adding to her towering stacks of unread books.
As good as the others in the series. I just want more books. All the side characters also need to get their own book please otherwise that would be a missed opportunity really.
To get into the specifics - I’ll do the usual thing I do and briefly talk characters, plot and romance.
Plot wise- plenty of action and as per usual quite unpredictable- it kept me entertained and I had good time. I think I finished this book in like 3 hours so there’s that.
The MCs were nice people - lol, that sounds like a cop out but I genuinely liked them- I just don’t think they were amazing.
And lastly the romance - well, it was okay. She liked that he was hot clearly - and he liked her cause she was pretty- and afterwards they got to know each other better - sort of - because there was also a lot of action and I think when a lot of stuff happens and life is constantly on edge you tend to feel things deeper and also get to know people better- so the short timeline to love was believable in this scenario.
I just want more books about all the others and also the New York families.
Matteo Grassi-was too busy chasing skirts and dropping cash to care much about how that money is made in the family business. He was never meant for the higher up positions in this world. Or so his family thought, until he meets Josie Pearson
Matteo has always tried never to let his two worlds collide if possible. His brother would probably argue that he tried never to exist inside the Family world at all.
Come on, who in their right minds pulls a gun on a mafia boss’s brother? I mean it’s bad enough that you are, technically, a capo, but the connection to Luca and Antony, I mean, it was a suicide mission. But to each his own
Let’s just say that Josie witnesses her boss, Matteo commits a hypothetical murder. And to make matters worse she tries to blackmail him…
Matteo is a good man who sometimes does bad things for the family.
At the end of this story you are going to wonder how many times can one woman find herself in the Wrong Place, but than of course it just might be hypothetical question
I must say that I have fallen in love with the Grassi Family from the very beginning, and as of that beginning, this family never fails to consume me with their larger-than-life personality. And each and every time I read one of their family members books, I just find myself wanting more, so now I guess I am going to have to check out the Cost’s family next

REVIEW I am starting to confuse the men in the series—and sure, maybe it’s because I’ve read, oh, I don’t know, about one book a day for a few days straight—but these men are so diverse as side characters and then we get to their books, and they’re all…the same.
Matteo’s flirty/promiscuous personality being notably absent was a bit disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the loyalty he had for Josie the moment he kidnapped her (long story), but the sassy and flirty responses have gone stale because every other male main character has had the same banter and sense of humor, no matter how serious or severe they are or aren’t said to be.
I absolutely should be taking a break between these books. They are a joy to read, and I could see them pulling me out of my reading slump if read intermittently. It’s just I like them so much that I overindulge until I start to resent them. Yet another case of ME being the problem.
Costas, Grassis, the other Families I forgot the surname of, I’ll be back for you.

I am always amazed as to what comes out of this authors mind for her stories. She can take what society would call criminals and make them still have a sense of morals, be funny with strong family ties and be faithful and loving and protective men to the women they fall in love with.
Josie Pearson is certainly a woman that's in the wrong place numerous times throughout this book.
This gives us Matteo Grassi story. He is the youngest brother who hasn't been fully ensconced in the mafia side of his family's business. He runs a legit banquet hall business. One night when he thought everyone had gone home he was doing a favor for his family on vetting out a man who owed them money and in self defense had to shoot the man. Unknown to Matteo, Josie had returned to work to get someone and witnessed the whole thing.
This being Navesink Bank things don't go as you'd expect them to go. The Grassi's may be a mob family but they are ones with a strong sense of family and they do not hurt women.
There are soo many more stories to be told in Jessica's mafia world and I hope we are able to get them all!!
Do you have an author who writes books as if they were special written for you and just for you, because you like her books as if they are exactly what you can imagine is a perfect story and writing style for you? These are Jessica's books for me.
This book is again an incredibly fascinating and captivating mafia romance. It's an action-packed page-turner that will sweep you off your feet and cost you a sleepless night 😂 It's a gripping, exciting and nerve-wracking roller-coaster of anxious energy and romantic feelings.
This book is so full of action and dramatic events that you don't have time to take a deep breath and definitely not take a break from reading.
The chemistry between Matteo and Josie has been incredible since the first encounter and I don't just talk about the erotic side of chemistry 😏 You can really feel the connection between the two that has existed since the first page.
Is Matteo an alpha type of man? Of course he's, but with respect for women and to the old kind of rules in the mafia world. Is Josie a badass heroine? 100% and more, because she is all women and sweet feelings, but when it comes down to it, it's a tough nut to crack and she knows how to use her strength and female advantages to play the badass game with the criminals.
I love this book and the unique humor in bad situations only Jessica can create. I can't give you more without spoilers but I want so bad write more about it 😩 This book can be read as a standalone and I recommend it to everyone who loves mafia romances like I do. Read it! You'll love it ❤❤❤
Late one night after work hours, Josie shows back up to her work when she isn't supposed to be there to pick something up she accidentally left behind. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time, she witnesses her boss, Matteo Grassi, doing work for the "family business". Matteo was born into the family, but has also maintained a bit of a distance from the family, working a legitimate business and only occasionally helping with family issues when it can't be avoided. The night Josie witnesses him in action is one such night and what follows is an adventure as they each work to find their way with this situation, while also being incredibly attracted to each other.
I very much loved this story - Josie and Matteo are come from very different backgrounds and are very different people, but fit each other incredibly well. This was a great slow burn romantic suspense! Perfect read for my cross-country flight.
The Grassi Family never fail to consume me with their larger than life nosey ass too caring extreme overbearing extra loving personalities. What's not to love, right?.
Matteo Grassi is everything. He's strong, confident and smart. He's also sweet, kind and protective. He's distanced himself from the family, unintentionally... kind of. But he's found himself skirted on the outsides of family life pushing everything into his personal business. That is until inevitably he had to step up. And boy did he step in it.
Josie is the perfect balance of a strong woman with a sweet soul. She has a moral compass but she also sees the blurred lines of reality and that not every grass is greenier on the other side. She stands for herself. She's independent, she's proud of what's she's achieved and she is not afraid to defend others. What a queen.
These two had a very dysfunctional start that only took a downward spiral straight in to snatchville. Now I'm saying straight up it's not often in those situations you can find humour but... I laughed harder than I should have in these circumstances. But I feel like with the tensions so high it only made for a more palpable connection between the characters that quickly went from straight up forbidden lust to a whole lot more than they both bargained for. Ooooooh. The chemistry is FIRE. What I loved most about the path their story took is the fact that we get to see all the family and enjoy the different interactions between the characters. You can feel the love between them all. The famila vibe with the playful teasing, bickering and banter. It gave me all the feels.
Honestly their journey hit so right. Fast paced, high tensions and unpredictable happenings are just a fraction of what this story has to offer. This is a mafia world so things are set in the grey area and let's just say it's not for the faint hearted in some areas. But where there is dark, light follows and its my favourite thing about Jessie... she balances her books perfectly.
Her characters are flawed. The personalities larger than life and the story unpredictable in all the best ways. There is fear and heartbreak and there is lust, love and genuine connections. Its a whole rollercoaster of a journey that I'm devastated it over.
This can be read as a standalone but honestly it's best served reading in order just so you get the full feel of this crazy family and their wild lives.
I love this family! The Grassi family has been so much fun from the beginning. Even when we were just getting little peeks of them in other series.
Matteo is a good man who sometimes does bad things for the family. BUT his family is one that will have your back at any moment. When you don’t have time to grab groceries…don’t worry because your cousin is there to help (just don’t forget to tip her😂)…when a rival family shows up to brain you DONT worry because guess what!! This family is there!
The sweetest mafia members I’ve ever had the pleasure of loving!
Josie has never had that though. Coming from a narcissistic mother she doesn’t know what it’s like to have a loving family.
Who knew watching a man get murdered right in from of her would change that!
I’ve been apart of this town for so long and I seriously never want it to end! I always say JG books are like coming home.
If you haven’t read her other series although not completely necessary I HIGHLY suggest it because there are so many small details that tie this town together.
Josie doesn’t seem to have the best luck. Nope. All she wanted was a solid, steady job as a designer at the event venue business. She was happy that the most exciting thing that was happening in her life recently was getting tickets to the once-in-a-lifetime reunion concert for her favourite band. But when she accidentally leaves her ticket at, her luck takes her in directions she would never have imagined.
They said, oh by the way, the boss is part of the New Jersey Mafia. Nope, Josie wouldn’t have believed that work until she left her concert ticket at work and she just so happened to catch sight of her gorgeous boss grabbing a gun and shooting a guy.
Shootings, kidnappings, Mafia wars, falling in love…this story has it all and more. Love the Grassi family but love Jessica Gadziala even more. Read the whole series. In fact, do yourself a favour and read everything she's written.
Josie ❤ Matteo! Another amazing book! Absolutely loved the story and I can't wait to read Sofia's story! (Is it available yet?) I feel a little sad that I'm not able to read the books in the proper order, but it doesn't matter.
Josie & Matteo are ABSOLUTELY in the right place together!
Wow!! I was not prepared for the level of the WAY WRONG PLACE Jessica Gadziala was willing to put Josie in to tell this story!!
Josie, a party planner, accidentally sees Matteo Grassi doing something he needed to do, but seriously needed to find a better place to do, and her life kind of spirals from there for a while.
I think Josie is going to be my Queen B for a while, I mean seriously, who thinks to blackmail a member of the mafia? Especially a member of the mafia so well known in Navesink Bank? That takes some brass...
Matteo Grassi, on the other hand, bless him. He seems to start out this book not sure what he wants to be doing. He's pulled so far back from the Family that he really doesn't know what's going on which makes it easy for the family to miss what's going on with him when the sh** starts hitting the fan for real.
I give him all the credit in the world though, because when Josie needs someone and he's the one she calls, he is all in from the beginning. I love, LOVE watching as his calm, cool collected self switched to the biggest, baddest alpha on the block.
There were some serious moments in this book where I found myself holding my breath, or reading faster to make sure everything was going to be ok. Ms. Gadziala hasn't given us such a nerve-wracking, spine tingling, adrenaline rush in quite a while, and while I'm totally here for it - watching Luka lose his cool is a little scary.
A 5-star shot out of the park from the author who has proven she can write the doors off anything!!
Definitely not my favourite in the series (especially compared to Luca's story, I just loved his book!), but it was pretty ok and I will ALWAYS be a fan of Jessica Gadziala!
This book made me happy when I was having a crappy day. I love Matteo. Josie is perfect for Matteo and someone I want to be friends with. I adore the Grassi Family and I feel the love when reading about them. The take away with this book is that there is evil in the world but there is family and friends who are there for you, got your back and, like JG wrote, love you even when they hate you.
What's not to love about a story where the heroine unintentionally walks in on the hero murdering someone, then kidnaps her, only to have her escape and blackmail him? And that's just the first few chapters! This was enjoyable from start to finish. 🥰
This was was a fun read and great to meet up with the Grassi boys again...hawt! These mafia men are having an easy time, right up until they aren’t. Meanwhile our poor heroine witnesses an out of character or not the norm at least Matteo execute a man. It’s just one terrible thing after another for her. Thrown in a trunk, twice, attacked twice, on the run plenty of times. What I liked is that she didn’t always need a rescue you flew by the seat of her designer pants and used the lid of a toilet or just your regular frying pan to overcome an assailant!
Then she falls in love with the Grassi big Italian family and that was nice too. 🙃
This book wasn't my favorite of this author but it still was good. There were parts of it that were great and other parts(mainly the pivotal climax of the story) that I struggled with because it just seemed so silly. However, the epilogue, as usual, was fantastic and made me wish that I could see more of the secondary couples like Sophia and Massimo get stories too.
This is okay. The premise is good. The Hero is part of a mafia family but isn't really involved with then other than in emergencies, he has distanced himself. After the events that push them together, they sort of ignore their situation, the fact he's obviously mafia and she's tried to blackmail him and act on their instant attraction to each other.
It was dual POV. To me dual POV can be done really well or it can find kinda repetitive. I'm afraid this book esp in the early chapters felt repetitive, you have the Hero POV then next chapter you have the heroine POV but some events are restated. I've read it done this way without actually recapping over events or telling them in such a way that there is no temptation to skim.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine. No other woman or man drama. It is stated a few times that the Hero is a one time thing with women, he likes variety, he never wanted to go back for more. He seems a genuinely nice guy except for the mafia thing. The heroine is a fairly strong character, she does her fair share of fighting back and doesn't behave tstl.
Secondary characters, I haven't read the series in order so I'm not sure how it fits but I thought it was fine as a standalone but I do intend to read from book 1 now.
HEA. Epilogue.

The Woman in the Wrong Place is the third book in the Grassi Family series. This is Matteo’s book.
Josie is one of Matteo’s employees who unfortunately for her, comes back to the office one night and witnesses something she should not have seen. While Matteo is trying to take care of Josie, the Grassi family realizes someone(s) might be targeting them.
I liked Matteo and thought he was a good character, and Josie is sweet so I liked her too. I’m always a big fan of Jessica’s books so overall I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Josie’s best friend Marcie might be a fun addition to the series, and I’m looking forward to reading the stories of Massimo, Sofia, Milo, Aurelio and even Nino.
The story is told from both Matteo’s and Josie’s POVs. A couple of times this was a little repetitive since they basically retold the same scene, just in a different voice. But I’m a fan of the dual POV books, so this was easy to overlook.
This is my favorite of the Mafia series books and that’s saying something because I loved the other two before this.
The story is quick paced with witty dialogue and intense passion. You can feel their connection steaming off the pages. Matteo the consummate playboy falls hard and fast, which is so fun to see. Josie the sweet but strong heroine is a trip. I love her inside voice when she’s trying to be tough and seem nonchalant. It sounds like many women I know. Fake it til you make it!
I couldn’t get enough of this book, I devoured it in one day, while traveling. I was so into it I forgot I was on an airplane, on a windy day, bouncing around through the turbulence. :-)
I have read everyone of JG’s books and reread a lot of them. I’m only halfway through this book and I am struggling. Some of the dialogue is very cringey that I don’t even know if I want to trudge forward and finish it. Disappointing….*EDIT…Finished it…Yikes. Not her best work by far.
I swear Jessica doesn’t know how to write a bad story! Every single one I’ve ever read of hers grabs me right from the first couple of pages! I absolutely adore that fact! When I need to disappear from all that is around me, I just know to go to a JG story and everything else but the story is a blur!
Matteo and Josie were no different!
Gorgeous story with a gorgeous couple. 100% 5 star recommendation from me!!
The Woman In The Wrong Place By Jessica Gadziala Truly have been waiting for Matteo's book, since we where introduced to him in Luca's book. And it certainly didn't disappoint.
Matteo is your usual playboy, with zero commitment and he didn't play a huge part in his family's...'business😜' but whenever they needed him, he always showed up.
Josie had an extremely hard life. No family, but she did have one amazing friend.
Josie works at Matteo's company and after going back to work to get something one evening. She witnesses something, which changes her life forever.
Josie was one strong h, even though she had some pretty bad things happen to her. Matteo oh man, he may have distanced himself from his family but when it came to his woman he definitely didn't mess around.
It was one unique start to a relationship, that's for sure😅 loved the development of their relationship and the chemistry was 🔥
Secondary Characters
Luca, Lucky and...okay the whole Grassi Family😛 was absolutely amazing and the relationship that they all have was damn beautiful...
Massimo ❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍 I can not wait till this guy gets his own book. I repeat I CAN NOT WAIT
So, Jessica Gadziala's books are always satisfying due to, in large part, her epic epilogues.
This book was amazing because we got to get to know another member of the Navsink Bank mafia family (Matteo) and Josie, his employee a party planner in his events business.
Matteo had distanced himself from the 'Family' - with a capital F. He had felt in order to stay out of the messy portions of the Family business he had to distance himself from his family members.
In this book you see Matteo getting closer to his family, both in business and on a personal level. You also see Josie thrown into it with a series of events.
Favorite characters: Josie's best friend Marcie. She's awesome. And Sophia or Sophie- the cousin that buys everything for everyone. Mediocre character: Matteo- I didn't feel like I knew him really well after this book. Least favorite: the bad guys (Arugula family lol) obviously we're shitheads.
All in all-this was an awesome book and I'd recommend it to anyone. I'd also recommend reading all of Jessica Gadziala's Mafia (and other) books! ♥️♥️
The Woman in the Wrong Place is the third book in the Grassi Family series by Jessica Gadziala. Josie is at the wrong place at the wrong time and sees something she never should have seen. As someone who has not had the best of luck through her life, she's just starting to feel at home in Navesbank but this is about to rock her life and she may not have a home here anymore.
Matteo Grassi tries his best to stay out of the family business but unfortunately something happens to drag him back into the life and now he must try cover his actions from his family. But this doesn't go to plan and suddenly his quiet life is not quiet anymore!
It has some suspense, humour, a lot of sass and I dove through this book in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down. I loved these two together and the secondary characters where so good. I really want Brio's story like now!!
This series has fast become my favourite of Jessica's books and I can't wait for more!
