Years after fleeing her hometown in the dead of night, author Abbi Petersen was happy that she settled along the shores of the lakeside village. With the scenic backdrop, her own private beach in her backyard, and nothing around but an abandoned house, it was the perfect place to become a recluse and write her days away. That is until a gorgeous, younger, mysterious man moves next door.
The only thing British actor Ben Quinn is interested in after hightailing it out of Tinseltown is living a quiet, low-key life, far away from the paparazzi's lenses. He finds the house on Pearl Lake's shore, spot-on, especially after he meets Abbi, the attractive woman next door. She has no clue he's Hollywood's most sought-after leading man.
Charmed by her quirkiness, Ben wants more than a neighbourly relationship with her, but there is someone lurking around who has other plans.
Will he be able to prove to Abbi that age is only a number before the person in the shadows can convince her otherwise?
Hey lovely people! This is Ben. I wanted to let you know that Aquila Thorne, the teller of mine and Abbi's story had so much fun writing our tale, that she couldn't stop at just one book… it took her three. I wanted to forewarn you that books 1 and 2 of Pearl Lake the series, did end in cliffhangers and so she COMBINED the two. How awesome is that? But don't worry, this one does end in a HEA, also It gives you hours of reading pleasure and saves you money. Now I must hand over the mic to Abbi as she wants to talk to you. I'll see YOU inside the pages of this book. ;)
Hi guys! I wanted to send a short note and give a little back story as to why there were cliffhangers because I know Ben didn't. As he and I were telling Aquila our story, little did we know that she had roughly 50 people reading chapter by chapter as she wrote. Those readers were hooked and wanted to know more about us, so it's kinda their fault. You see, she had no intention of ever publishing any books, it was more of a lifelong dream to just write one. It was those readers that pushed her into the Indie Author world. Also, I wanted to mention there is a stalker. It is nothing too serious and nothing that Ben can't handle, or I for that matter. Don't worry though, it's a laugh-out-loud, loveable read, with a lot of twists and turns that I hope you enjoy! xoxo Abbi
Born in Southern Ontario, Aquila was raised on the outskirts of a small town. With nothing to do, she took to reading historical romance novels and vowed to write a book of her own one day. Fast forward 28 years and she did just that with her first Contemporary Romance titled Moonlit Night and a Series to follow. She still lives in that small town where she was born, her escape is within the pages of her writings
Abbi Petersen loves her little slice of heaven. Being a successful writer and one of her books now being made into a movie should highlight her career. But, being stocked and scarred has left her afraid and alone with nothing but her pets and a secluded cabin. Meet Ben. He is younger while she’s older. He lives alone because of his status and past haunts. While his friend Ben bought the cabin for a retreat in the middle of nowhere and next to a beautiful woman, he would like to know better.
Both not knowing is who each other they become more than friends, but Abbi can’t believe anyone younger than her would like her more than a neighbor. Moonlit Night is written well, and I really enjoyed the story and looked forward to the next one.
While production of a book-made-movie that Ben is filming is down he decides to buy a house in Canada from his friend and co-worker, Mark, and make the move. While his mom is against the idea of him being so far away, he is in his mid 30s and ready for a change in scenery. He had no idea just how beautiful that scenery could be. Especially once he meets the stunning author of the movie he's filming, Abby. Abby is shy, oblivious to her looks, and loves her animals deeply. She seems perfect, but what is stalking her may be more than either of them are willing to handle. I received this eBook from the author in exchange for an honest review. She initially sent it to me back in 2020 and it somehow got lost in my email. I was going through messages on my Twitter last month and seen our conversation. I didn't remember finishing her book, but I was sure I was all caught up according to my email, so I checked and even searched for her name in my email, coming up with nothing. I then messaged her again and she sent me to book right over. Of course I bumped it on my list because it should have already been read and reviewed by this point. The author was amazing and very understanding.
This book cover says it is two books, but I don't really see how that is possible. It is Abby and Ben's story from start to finish. The further into the book I got the more I kept wondering how this book would be able to wrap up in x number of pages and a whole other book be able to fit in the remaining. It didn't seem possible, and it wasn't. So, unless this was initially one of those annoying books where an arbitrary stopping point is decided and that ends book 1 and book 2 picks up where 1 left off I'm not sure how it could be 2 books. Since I didn't have to deal with that major inconvenience and it is even "2 books" on Amazon for purchase instead of parts I will not detract for this. I make mention only because a certain mindset is entered when you think there will be two books and it is just one.
Ben is adorable and puts up with a lot in this book. Abby is sweet and her love of animals is amazing. However, she spends so much time basically star-struck, staring at Ben like a hunk of man-meat than a human it is kind of a bore. The first few times in the first few chapters, sure. No problem. You don't know this person and they are hot. I get it. You get a little dazed and confused. But throughout the entire book basically? Not so much. I don't care if the person is the most stereotypically attractive person in the world. If they are talking to you like a normal human and you get to know them, even for a short time, most peoples brains wouldn't be focusing on their physical appearances. They'd be focused on the conversations and what that person is truly like. I could be wrong, but I don't think so honestly.
The stalker was a great plot point. The author used "they" instead of he/she when discussing them so you didn't automatically discount anyone as the potential stalker while reading. It was obvious the person had two, or a handful, of screws loose. The author makes a point at the beginning of the book to mention that certain words are not misspelled that there are just differences in spelling between Americans and Canadians. This is true and as I've read numerous books set in both places those don't bother me. I will say that I only caught 2 real typos in the book. One was now instead of know (I don't remember where) and the other was a word missing. Super simple and typos completely happen. It in no way detracts from the read and I am proud of how well the author edited the book.
The story wraps up nicely with a little bow. No string un-pulled. I don't feel like I'm walking away from this book with unanswered questions, which is something I love! If the next book in the series is anything like this it is definitely one I would enjoy reading as well. There is a lot of hope for this author and I'm sure she'll go far. I hope to read more of her books in the future and let you all know what I thought on them as well. In fact, this was one of my favorite eBooks this read. I love a good contemporary romance and this one had plenty of spice to it. Plus, it is a couple where one is in their 30s and the other in their 40s which isn't something you see a lot of. Not complaining. Unique is always good as far as I'm concerned.
So this is the first books that I have read by this amazing author, Aquilla did an unbelievable job with her characters and world building in these two book, I cannot wait to read the rest of Abbi and Ben’s story.
Abbi had moved to Pearl Lake to escape a stalker, while Ben had moved there to take a break. He bought the house next door but had no idea how his life was about to change. He first met Abbi when he was having diner at the diner in town, he had just moved in and was looking for food. She was unable to keep herself from thinking about him from their first encounter.
Ben had bought his friend and coworkers house that was on an amazing lot and Abbi was very mad, she was wanting to purchase that land and was told it was not available, so she called her agent to find out why she wasn’t told that it was up for sale so that she could purchase it.
Abbi and Ben start spending more time together, she feels that she is too old for him, and that her past and her scares make her unattractive to men, after a failed marriage she is not sure she will ever find love again. That is until Ben enters her life.
Abbi starts noticing things that seem odd, she gets phone calls where no one is there, flowers from someone she doesn’t know. Ben is there when they find a dog that had been hurt, they took it to the vet to see if they could save it and discover that the dog had been hurt on purpose and that it was most likely the work of her stalker.
They look for its owner but had no luck and Ben decides he will keep her util they can locate them or forever he was a dog person and would love to keep her.
Fast forward to book two, Ben and Abbi have decided they would take their relationship further and she meets Bens friend that he bought the house from, he is a bit of a ladies man and thinks that Abbi should be with him, unfortunately for him, she only had eyes for Ben. Next their families show up, neither were expecting that so they had to think fast, did they want to meet this way or was it time to run.
The family decided to have a party, they were sitting by the lake when Ben has a bad reaction to medication that Abbi gave him, she didn’t know that what she gave him was not the pain medication that the doctor had prescribed, it was poison that had been delivered by her stalker who was trying to get Ben out of his way.
I really could go on and on about this book, but I need to start book 3 so I can see what happens next in Ben and Abbi’s relationship.
Will Ben be able to prove to Abbi that age is only a number before the person in the shadows can convince her otherwise?
This was a steamy reverse age gap romantic suspense.
I greatly enjoyed these books. I despise cliffhangers and was very happy the author combined these books into one release. Loved the suspense elements of the book - very well done. Really liked the main and secondary characters. The only criticism I have of the story is the dislocated shoulder. I have had one and they are extremely painful, there is no way he could pick her up, etc so quickly after an injury of that sort. Highly recommend!
Abbi Peterson is a best selling author. She is divorced and has 3 adult children. She is very shy, a bit awkward and a total klutz. She lives a mostly reclusive life in Pearl Cove. She has 2 dogs, several cats and a bird. She has had a problem with a stalker in the past.
Ben Quinn is a British actor. He recently bought his friend Mark's vacation home next door to Abbi. He has been cast as a lead in a movie based on Abbi's book. After being badly burned by an ex he has not had a relationship in several years.
They met at the diner/grocery store in the village where she proceeded to embarrass herself and totally charm him. Ben finds himself pre-occupied with thoughts of Abbi and looks for any excuse to see her. Abbi though extremely attracted to Ben is hung up on their 9 year she difference and the wear and tear on her body from having her kids. While they are progressing in their relationship they are also discovering several weird happenings affecting/threatening them. The story culminates with a barbeque party setup to catch her latest stalker.
Moonlit Night and Moonlit Stalker are part of the Pearl Lake Series. The two main characters of the book are Abbi, and Ben. Abbi is a reclusive, divorced mother of three. She loves her lake house and lives there with her pets while she is attempting to write her next novel. Ben is a famous actor who buys the lakehouse next to Abbi. He is looking for quiet and calm away from the rigors and paparazzi that come with being a famous actor. The two meet in a rather hilarious way (Abbi is a bit of a klutz) and the chemistry is there. Ben is persistent, in spite of Abby worrying about their age gap and what she considers as her flaws in looks. We find out that someone is stalking Abby and the suspense is riveting. It is woven very well amongst the humor and the two falling for each other.
Moonlit Stalker continues the suspense and more people are added to their group. Ben's friend Mark, Abbi's sister Kim, and Abbu's daughtwr Ava also figure prominently in this book. We have a hilarious first introduction of Abbi's kids and Ben's parents (both of whom arrive early/unexpectedly). we see the group has figured out who the stalker might be. There are lots twists and turns throughout while a plan is put into place to catch the stalker.
I highly recommend these two books as they are well done. Can't wait to see if we find out more about some of the characters and their relationships. Also looking forward to reading more on Ben and Abbi.
I am so mad at myself for not reading this book sooner. Again, if I had just read the summary, I would have known to jump right into this series. I thought this book was about some college kids but it is not. These are adults and I love that. Ben Quinn is a popular actor who has decided to make Pearl Lake his home. He bought the house from his friend and fellow actor, Mark Donovan. He had a little downtime in his schedule and decided to make his house a home. He was sorely misled by the amount of work the house needed to be livable.
Just so happens that Ben and Mark’s next gig was a book made into a movie, "The Jasper Killings" by Abbie Stevens. Guess who happens to be Ben's neighbor, none other than Abbi Peterson, who writes novels under a pen name. Ben is attracted to Abbi right away despite her being almost 10 years older than he is.
Abbi has some issues. She doesn't feel like she can keep a young man like Ben interested. Ben is doing all he can to prove to her that she is the only woman that he wants. Abbi also has a fan turned stalker that seems to have started back up again. Weird things are happening in Pearl Lake. Fortunately, Ben along with their families will be there to help this couple solve this mystery. I loved all of the characters. I can't wait to continue to dive into this series.
In Moonlit Night we meet Abbi who is a divorced mother of 3, and very reclusive. She needs the peace of her lake house with her pets to write her next novel. Ben buys the house next door. He’s a famous actor who needs the peace in order to prepare for his next project. When they meet, the chemistry is undeniable. Abbi has reservations because of their age gap. Throughout the novel we see that someone is stalking Abbi. Now they have to figure out who it is, and keep everyone safe.
In Moonlit Stalker, we see the group has figured out who the stalker might be. Mark gets his brother involved in trying to positively identify him. Ben has to calm Abbi down and convince her that there is no other person for him. There are lots of bumps throughout while a plan is put into place. By the end, Ben and Abbi are making plans for the future. We definitely need to know what might happen with Mark and Ava, Abbi’s daughter.
Such a sweet ten a suspenseful story. Ben an actor fleeing the paparazzi. Finds a secluded house on Pearl lake. Then he meets writer Abbi. He falls for her fast. She is reluctant because he is gorgeous, she is older than him and has a body if a Mom. As they draw closer, danger appears. Who is it a talker to someone known to one of them. I love how Ben says he fell in love with her on a Moonlit night. This a must read. I give it 4.5 star because Abbi stays to stick on not believing in Ben's love, worrying he will fall for a younger woman for too long. How adamant and his actions prove his love and I would of believed him sooner.
Just let me say I am not a big reviewer or easily kept captivated by a book. But this one was amazing. The trials, frustrations, doubts and emotions Ben and Abbi went through were enough to keep me glued but then throw in some suspense as one becomes a target on top of it all and you have a page turner you can't put down. Enough to test any new relationship. Will love survive? Or will it become to much to bear. Very well written and organized this book has it all. Grab your copy today and begin the journey with Ben and Abbie in book 1&2. You won't be disappointed. This is the first book I have read by @Aquila Thorne, but it won't be the last
I have to say that I couldn't put it down! I did the pc kindle version that included the first two books. I started it 4 hours ago and just finished. I loved the stories. I loved the characters. They were well written, well developed and easily relatable. They were so sweet and loving and just made for each other. You could just feel their bond with the words she wrote. The twists in the story were perfect! It had me guessing to the very end. I was laughing out loud at some of it and actually woke up my husband! Oops! I want to read more of her books now and look forward to what I can read next. Huge thank you to her for allowing me the chance to read these.
I don’t know how to describe it, the writing style was a bit excessive, I don’t need to know every little thing he does in the kitchen for example, or everything she did to feed every animal. Just to specific. It was written in the third person, than during a scene from his site, than from her site, it was hard to follow at times. The story was ok, Abbie was funny and with her klutziness very entertaining. It was quite entertaining. Ben was nice and protective of her, all in all an ok read, could use a bit improvement.
The book is a good, and enjoyable romantic suspense read. The story has a good story line, and well written read. The characters are good, and they have good steamy chemistry. The story has plenty of suspense, action humor, and steam.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love this book by Aquila Thornes and it won't be my last.
The story of Ben and Abbi might be a little hair-raising since they don't know what lurks in the shadows. Can they find what they are looking for and possibly find love while they do it before it's too late?
This is book 1&2, in one book. This was the first time, I read her book. This book is a reverse age gap, next door, well-written, has hard times, wonderful characters and plot, excited to read, sweet romance, past collides, starker, smut, good Romance. 💓 Ben and Abbie. The ending. WOW!!! Yes, this book ends in a cliff hannger. But, it he next book, is out now.
*ARC Review* This was my first time reading a book by Aquila Thorne. I enjoyed it so much! It is a sweet reverse age gap romance with some spice and mystery! This is two books in one and very well done. I laughed several times especially during the first book. I had a hard time putting it down! I can’t wait to continue the series!
So. The first two books are incredible. Age gap, female being older was a nice change of pace! FMC can be a bit dramatic at times, and the MMC is a wee bit stereotypicalz but I loved the writing! Amazing storyline with some spice but nothing over the top. Love the idea of young celeb and older author. I really don’t want to spoil anything, but I highly recommend!!!
I've heard a lot of hype about this book on my Facebook groups so when the opportunity came to receive an ARC copy I couldn't pass it up. I'm glad I didn't.
This book started slow, but it did pick up. I loved the characters and the twists that kept us guessing. Overall a pretty decent read
I received a free copy of the story and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first book in Pearl Lake the Series. It focusses on new to town Ben, the actor, and his neighbour Abbi, the author. The pair immediately find chemistry with each other, will they find happiness with each other? Im interested to see where this story goes.
I loved how the characters feels so real. Book 1 and 2 that i got is a good mix of Romantic Sweetness, Comedy, and suspense to the point that couldn’t put the book down. Its hard for me to enjoy a book but if i do that means its a good book😊 Can't waite for book 3
This book had plus points but the h Abbi was annoying. She had no confidence in his feelings for her, even at the end. She was also just like the blonde going into the cellar in films but she was taking a knife for him to use as well.
