Miranda’s business—combining Appalachian adventure tours with art and a bit of moonshine—is the perfect place for an outdoor sporting goods company to hold an employee retreat. It’ll be a challenge, but the money they’re paying will definitely help with building her new distillery.

Miranda has lots of teamwork-fostering activities planned, from sketching classes to Southern cooking, but the executive running things prefers a more competitive spirit. In fact, after the workers are split into teams, they’re told that only the winners will keep their jobs, and tensions begin to spike. Even after a participant is found dead, the contest continues—while Miranda starts drawing her own conclusions about the ambitious attendees. Now she just has to find the proof . . .

Corporate retreat turns deadly

“Death a Sketch” is part of the “Paint & Shine Mystery Series” but new readers will easily follow the action and antics. The book is a light-hearted story with some drama, tension, and lots of interesting people and relationships. Paint and Shine is a resort/retreat/workshop center immersed in the complex culture of Northern Kentucky and Southern Ohio. While most groups come to relax, recharge, and enjoy themselves, the current “corporate retreat and team building exercise” is not going as planned.

Miranda Trent recently the farm from her late uncle with the stipulation that she have the distillery up and running within the first three months. She struggles to complete the restoration and expand her business to cover those costs. The narrative is filled with interesting and characters, both local personalities and those attending the corporate retreat. The narrative is filled with tension, suspicion, comradery, and competition. There is a convenient cast of characters for reference if needed. These few days of the “corporate retreat” are filled with accidents, sabotage, and a lot of fun, oh, and of course a body on a blood stained rock.

Hollon created of scenarios that keep readers looking for the next disaster or a cheerful, heartfelt moment. The characters are genuine and easy to like and hate. The personal relationships are realistic and relatable. The conflicts are genuine and relevant.

I received a review copy of “Death a Sketch” from Cheryl Hollon and Kensington Books. It is quick to read, and although there are surprises along the way, in the end, things all work themselves out.
“Death a Sketch” is now available in print, as an e-book, and on audio from independent bookstores, online booksellers, retail stores, public libraries and anywhere you get your books.

This is the third in the Paint and shine cozy mystery series. Set in the lovely Daniel Boone National Forest it's a well plotted mystery featuring Miranda Trent. She is working hard to build her business that combines art and moonshine so when the Big Sky sporting goods company hires her to put on a four day corporate bounding event she says yes. This could be a big help to growing her business. When murder is added to the event she wishes she had said no thank you. What should have been a team building program, the CEO turns it into a battle between two 5 member teams and the prize at the end? One team will stay employed and the other team will get their pink slip. What could possibly go wrong. Pitting people against each other is certain to lead to danger...but murder?
The pace from the start is a bit slow but it works well. There is enough background laid out to make Death a Sketch work well as a stand alone. Miranda and her friends are well developed characters working to solve a well crafted mystery. Then there is an adorable terrier pup named Sandy. When I finished death a Sketch I thought wouldn't it be nice to travel to the Daniel Boone National Forest to spend time with Miranda and her friends and family, sitting on the porch enjoying good food and cuddling Sandy. I'll pass on the shine and i can't draw a stick figure but that wouldn't matter one bit. If a murder occurs I'll add my two cents from the porch.
My thanks to the publisher Kensington and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

Death a Sketch by Cheryl Hollon takes us to back to Kentucky where Miranda Trent runs Paint & Shine. Her latest group is from Big Sky for a four-day team building experience. Unfortunately, the man in charge, Mr. Burns decides to make a last-minute change. Mr. Burns turns the team building retreat into a competition with serious consequences for the losers. On the first day, Miranda takes the group along with Mr. Burns and his assistant, Rowena (who happens to be an old high school classmate of Miranda’s) on their first hike and competition. After listening to a talk from Park Ranger Austin Morgan, Miranda leads the group down the trail. The group encounters Mr. Burns dead on the ground with Rowena at his side holding a large rock. Miranda wishes to cancel the retreat, but Mr. Burns replacement insists they continue. Rowena is at the top of the sheriff’s suspect list. Miranda knows her old friend could not have harmed her boss. She sets out to prove Rowena’s innocence while continuing the competitive retreat. Miranda finds it challenging because someone is intent on sabotage. Death a Sketch is the third A Paint & Shine Mystery. It can easily be read as a standalone. Death a Sketch is well-written with realistic, developed characters. The story does start off slowly as we are introduced to the retreat members. I enjoyed the author’s vivid descriptions of that area of Kentucky. The Daniel Boone National Forest is a picturesque region. The depictions of the food will have your mouth watering. It was interesting learning more about the making of moonshine. The mystery was plotted out nicely. There are good suspects along with misdirection. There are clues to help readers solve the whodunit before the reveal (if you pay close attention). Miranda asked questions, but she did little investigating. There were various incidents along the way that kept things lively. I did feel the reveal was a wee bit rushed along with the explanation. Sandy, Miranda’s puppy, is adorable. He helped reduce the stress of the participants. Miranda’s mother only had a cameo in this book. She had to go out of town to complete the sale of her home. I like Miranda’s mother and I hope she will join her daughter in sleuthing in future books. Miranda is slowly getting the distillery off the ground. I hope she makes the deadline. Miranda is finding her place in the community and her romance with Austin is progressing nicely. Death a Sketch is a lively cozy with workshop woes, moonshine mixing, an eliminated executive, a cuddly canine, contestant sabotage, a romantic park ranger, and a caught killer.

This is the second book I've read in this new series by Cheryl Hollon. The first book didn't appeal to me, but I wanted to give Death a Sketch a chance. I'm pleased that I did, I found the book to be entertaining and well played.
Miranda Trent is doing a team building challenge with a large corporate group, but unfortunately someone doesn't want to be a team player.
I enjoyed the easy friendship between Miranda and Rowena, after years of separation. I hope she will have a recurring spot in future books.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

Another retreat is ramping up, but the fun is being sucked out of it by a dead body, a tyrant and a saboteur! I absolutely love the characters and the plots in this series, but I am absolutely entranced by the idea of a food, painting, hiking, moonshine retreat! I would definitely sign right up if only this were a real thing! Once again this series welcomes us back with group of characters that feel like old friends rather than just characters on a page and I absolutely can't wait to visit again in the next book! Things are really starting to cook in some of these characters lives now!

Death A Sketch is the third book in the Paint And Shine Mystery series by Cheryl Hollon.

The Big Sky Company has hired Miranda to handle a 4-day team-building workshop consisting of competitions, games, and challenges. There will be two 4-person teams competing, and the teams will consist of those that are being considered for upper management. Miranda is looking forward to seeing Rowena Gardner, her friend from high school and currently an administrative assistant at Big Sky, and will be keeping track of the teams' performances.

On the first day on the trail, Rowena tells Miranda that Mr. Burns, VP of Operations, has some challenges in mind. He is going back down the path to see if he’s nearby. After Park Ranger Austin Morgan finishes his talk on the Daniel Boone Forest, the group heads back down the trail. Soon they come upon Rowena kneeling and holding a rock with blood on it, next to the dead body of Burns.

Surprisingly the company wants to continue with the team-building event, much to Miranda’s surprise. Miranda senses that the company is far from a compassionate company, and the competition is a way for Big Sky to eliminate some unwanted employees. When Rowena becomes a prime suspect in the murder of Burns, Miranda and Austin will help the local sheriff with his investigation to clear Rowena’s name.

I’m enjoying the series. The book is well-written and plotted. The author depicts the Daniel Boone Forest very descriptively. The characters are well-developed and believable. The story reads at a good pace. There were enough twists and turns that I was guessing until the end as to who the killer was.

The book also includes delicious-sounding recipes.

I will be watching for the next book in the series.

We’ve all been there. Felt like we had to take on work or clients that we didn’t really like because we thought it would pay off for our career or business in the long run. This is where our Miranda finds herself as Death a Sketch begins. I thought hosting an employee retreat for team building and leadership skills was a unique expansion for her Paint & Shine tours, and it made for an interesting crew of supporting players too. A hodgepodge mix of personalities and backgrounds keep the suspect pool full, including a couple of characters who were abrasive enough for me to be tempted to murder them if forced into extended close proximity lol.

As always, Miranda is likable and easy to cheer for as she continues her tireless quest to meet the terms of her uncle’s will so she can remain in the family farmhouse. We didn’t focus too much on the distillery progress this time around, as the tour group & case were more labor intensive than usual, but I suspect it will be in the spotlight in the next book as that deadline is approaching! Her circle of friends and family remains highly entertaining and easy to love, too, and I loved the romance progress between Miranda and swoony neighbor & park ranger Austin.

Bottom Line: Death a Sketch is a fun and entertaining return to the Paint & Shine mysteries! Miranda remains a delightful and relatable protagonist and the bevy of recurring secondary characters are just as endearing. She has her work cut out for her this go-around, even before a murder makes things even more treacherous, and readers can definitely feel the tension emanating off the pages. Don’t worry, though, there’s also a little time for some swoony romance with hunky ranger Austin and time to sit a spell on the porch swing with precocious pup Sandy! While I felt like the big reveal was a little abrupt and without much warning for readers, I still found the mystery to be clever and engaging. Another great installment in this series – can’t wait for what’s next!

The countryside around Miranda Trent's Kentucky farmhouse is just about holding on to a little of its autumnal finery but winter is on its way. Her fledgling business, Paint and Shine, is slowing down as are most local tourist endeavours but she still has a four day team building retreat to host and then she too can begin to wind down herself.

Unfortunately, someone has moved the goalposts and her plans are about to be altered beyond recognition but this is a big deal for Miranda and so she gets a snap education in biting her tongue and an increased appreciation of being her own boss. With the arrival of one of her oldest friends as part of the BigSky Corporation group Miranda is hopeful she can renew their acquaintance while changing the focus as she goes along.

The first outdoor event takes them into the hills of the Daniel Boone National Forest where charcoal drawing is the order of the day. All goes according to plan until Miranda, and her new beau, park ranger Austin Morgan, are leading the way back to beginning of the trail when they come across one of the group gravely injured with a blood stained rock nearby. Shockingly the company insist the retreat continues and Miranda and Austin know they will have to work doubly hard to do their own jobs as well as helping the Sheriff do his!

This is the third in this enjoyable cosy crime series. Art and moonshine don't seem like easy bedfellows but it works; the main protagonists are gelling well now and the mix of murder and romance is well drawn and easy to read. I really like Austin and Miranda and those protagonists close to them. There were a lot of additional characters this time but never once was I confused or unsure of who was who.

The only downside to so many potential killers was it could have been any of them and any actual investigating seemed to be done off the page while every nuance of the team building exercises was described in great detail. This lessened my involvement in the whodunnit elements but I did enjoy reading about the various activities which were undertaken.

Overall this was a good read but the balance could have swung a little more towards the investigation rather than having it revealed at the end without the chance to get the reader involved. Hopefully that won't happen in the next installment. There are recipes at the end as well.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I enjoyed this but with reservations. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

It was good visiting with Miranda and her friends in her first corporate workshop and the last event before closing down for winter. I'm glad she and Austin were getting closer--the end was so cute!

That corporate group was run by someone who'd give JR Ewing a run for his nastiness, lol. I'm not sure which one of the execs was worse, but after a while, it was only one that mattered anyway. Most of the company's employees seemed like okay people but I particularly liked how Carol and her team came together for those challenges. I liked Miranda's friend Rowena, the admin assistant and kinda hoped she'd decide to ditch the crazies in this company and get a job somewhere close so she and Miranda could be besties again. If only Miranda's business wasn't so new and probably not able to afford her, Rowena would've made a great assistant!

I enjoyed that the showdown wasn't dangerous to Miranda herself, but someone else was pretty traumatized by it. Although the sheriff had things under control biding his time. I'd love to see a Christmas book in this setting, but since Miranda can't run her tours in winter, I'm sure that won't be happening. It'd be all kinds of festive up in those snowy mountains though!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.

Miranda Trent has an organizational team building retreat booked for her new business Paint and Shine. The retreat could really put the fledgling business on the map and allows Miranda to connect with an old high school friend. It quickly becomes clear that Big Sky is a toxic organization when the company’s executives arrive to declare that the results of the retreat will determine the participants’ futures at the company. It doesn’t take long for Miranda to find herself in the middle of another death investigation and enlists the help of her friends to help find who is responsible.
First of all, I’m pretty sad that Paint and Shine isn’t a real destination. Set in the mountains of Kentucky, it sounds heavenly and Miranda is the perfect host for tourists looking for art lessons and authentic moonshine! Cheryl Hollon creates wonderful characters (I wish I had Miranda’s chutzpah). I love that her mountain folk are realistic and intelligent and not hokey. The moment I started reading I felt that I returned to a favorite haven with a group of treasured friends.

How can you not like a book that includes Moonshine Cocktails recipes at the end?

Miranda Trent is hired by the Big Sky corporation, a prominent graphical design company, to put on a four day bonding workshop for the company. It's perhaps the biggest job she's tackled with her still relatively new business and it turns out to be even more of a challenge than she'd imagined. Not only does the corporate big-wig want it to be more competitive than bonding but the prize is, uh, you won't lose your job if your team wins. Miranda feels lucky that the administrative assistant sent along to assist is an ol' high school friend, well, at least until that old friend is found holding a bloody rock in her hand over a dead body. More amazing, the workshop isn't canceled. Determined not to let her old friend take the blame, Miranda sets out to find clues and the guilty party, all while hosting the various competitions and gatherings.

Although the book seemed to start slowly, it did allow new readers to get to know Miranda, her mother, and the reasons Miranda was willing to take on such a demanding, stressful job. Although I'd read the second installment of this now three book series, it was a nice refresher for even me and set up new readers nicely. Miranda is likable, hard working, loyal to friends and family and, genuinely seems to love the isolated beauty of her home It doesn't hurt that a handsome forest ranger is a neighbor, I'm sure. Ah, Austin, such a good guy. Heck, there's even an adorable puppy, Sandy. All this and a beautiful setting, not to mention some tasty moonshine and, hmm, romance?

In any case, oh, yes, the murder. Who killed Burns? Why? Was it one of the workshop participants that are still involved? I've got to admit, I was kept guessing until the end. Sabotage? How does forest ranger Austin get involved? Is Rowena innocent? How much do people change after their high school years? Will Miranda regret inviting Rowena to stay at her place for the duration of the workshop? Why does Tobin insist on those last minute changes? Is he really as cheap as he seems? Or, is he something worse than just cheap? Who... oh, never mind. You're just going to have to read the book for the answers to these and many other questions.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #KensingtonBooks for inviting me to shadow Miranda's frighteningly competitive bonding workshop. Looking forward to my next visit. I think I'll skip the sessions and just settle for sitting in the rocker on the porch under one of her mom's quilts while I scratch Sandy's ears.

I received a free copy from the publisher through Netgalley and voluntarily reviewed it

I like Cheryl Hollon's books and I've been enjoying this Paint and Shine mystery series. I jumped on the chance to read this one. Death a Sketch is the third book in this series and follows Miranda as she builds her business, organizing adventure tours with art and moonshine. In every book she solves another mystery. In this book she's organizing a multiple day team building workshop for a group of people from a sportswear company, ofcourse things don't go as planned. There are some last minute changes in how management wants the workshop to run and high stakes, as well as a murder.

This mystery took a bit of time to really start, but that worked here. We first get to know a bit about the participants in the workshop and what management is like for this company. We get to see how these last minute changes are pushed through and get a feel for the company culture and the pressure on the participants to do well in this workshop. Then someone dies and it's up to Miranda to figure out who killed him and why, while continuing this intensive workshop. I liked the set-up for this mystery and the way Miranda has to continue the workshop while one of the participants is likely the killer.

I felt that there wasn't as much investigating in this one, although that didn't bother me too much as the book is fun to read and I liked reading about all the workshop activities. There are lots of undercurrents and secrets as well. It did bother me a bit how it got resolved as I have no clue how Miranda and the sheriff figured it out and the ending felt a bit rushed. I would've liked a bit more wrap up about what's happening next with the participants of the workshop and their jobs, as well as more explanation about how they figured out the mystery. I didn't feel like there were enough clues to figure out this mystery as the reader, but I did enjoy reading the mystery and following along.

This is a great series so far. I like reading about Miranda and her business. The combination of art, adventurous hikes, food and moonshine makes for a fun theme of the series. I also enjoy seeing Miranda find her place in the community and reading how she handles the business challenges. This book had her romance with Austin develop a bit more, which was nice to see. I liked reading about her friendship with Rowena. It also made for a good reason for Miranda to get involved in the mystery to make sure her old friend didn't get blamed for it. I enjoyed reading about the various workshop activities in this book as it varied things up a bit from previous books. There is quite the variety of activities.

To summarize: This was another great read in this series. I am enjoying this series and the combination of themes with the hikes, art, food and moonshine. This book had a fun set-up for the mystery as Miranda organizes a multi day workshop and one of the participants dies. I liked how Miranda got involved and how she tried to solve this. I did feel there isn't as much investigating due to the workshop, but I liked the way the workshop was the focus of the book and reading about the various activities. The murderer came as a bit of a surprise and I would've liked a bit more hints in that direction. The ending felt a bit rushed to me with the wrap up and explanations feeling a bit rushed. I like reading about Miranda and her business and seeing how she finds her place in the community. There's some romance too and her relationship with Austin progresses. I enjoyed reading this one and look forward to the next one.

The Paint & Shine series is just an all-round wonderfully engaging series. Miranda Trent is a highly likable character - she is sincere, hard-working, loyal to her friends and bright. She's trying to start her own tourist business in eastern Kentucky, having left the city to try her hand at building a moonshine business on the family farm while leading "Paint & Shine" tours and activities in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Death a Sketch finds Miranda taking on her most ambitious tour yet, with hopes of expanding her business, by offering to host a sporting goods company employee retreat. This is a great opportunity for Miranda, but she is not prepared for the personalities of the employees participating in the retreat, the corporate executive attending the retreat to observe, or the fact that the retreat has been turned into a competition whose losers will be fired at the end of the event. Between the squabbling and competitiveness of the participants, and the murder of the corporate exec, Miranda is able to host a successful event while working with the local law enforcement to solve the murder.

I always look forward to the next installment in this series as it is set in a beautiful location which is well-described, involves very likable and realistic characters, and always involves a unique mystery to solve. The moonshine and associated recipes, combined with the painting/artistic aspect of the tours makes for a one-of-a-kind very enjoyable series. This is a mystery with a great story that keeps you guessing till the end.

The icing on the cake for this book was the recipes at the end - many of which were similar, but not identical, to recipes with which I grew up. I enjoyed reading them and remembering.

Thank you Cheryl Hollon for a well-written mystery and excellent diversion - looking forward to many more of Miranda's tours!

Miranda Trent runs a unique tour company called Paint & Shine in rural Kentucky. She combines Appalachian adventure tours with art and a bit of moonshine. Her fledgling business has been contracted by a sporting goods company to put on a teambuilding retreat. Miranda comes up with some great activities and is looking forward to the event, until the organizer makes some changes. It will now be a competition between two teams, teams he makes up. The losing team is in danger of receiving pink slips, so things become a bit tense. When one of the executives setting up the competition is found dead on the trails, another steps in and makes things worse. Who is the murderer? Will this workshop make or break Miranda's business?

I enjoyed another visit to the Appalachians to see what Miranda was up to. I enjoy the other regular characters, especially Austin, the ranger and possible love interest for Miranda. There was an administrator from the company, Rowena, who is an old friend of Miranda's and I really liked her character. She was a peace keeper and not only tried to keep the participants calm, but also worked with Miranda to try and solve the crime. She was also the main suspect for most of the book, which had Miranda working harder to find the real killer. It is almost a closed room mystery, with the suspects being someone on the retreat. I had no idea who the killer was, and was surprised when the reveal came, but the motive made sense and tied up the looks ends well. I really liked the ending of the story and look forward to the next in the series.

This book was a lot of fun to read! It's the third in the Paint and Shine series but it was the first one I'd read and I had no problem jumping right in. For this mystery, the main character, Miranda, is hosting a corporate team building workshop over a long weekend, but it goes wrong when one of the participants is murdered.
Miranda is a likable heroine, and is a lot more relatable than some sleuths. She's a bit sharp-tongued and makes decisions that are more in line with what I think the average person would do. I sometimes wished I could tell her to calm down a little, ha! I enjoyed the peaceful setting on and around Miranda's farm in Appalachia, and I also liked that the circle of recurring characters was fairly small, making it easy to keep up with everyone.
As far as the murderer, I had no idea who did it until it was revealed at the end. Every time I thought I'd discovered a clue and might have figured it out, something came along to make me doubt my decision.
This was a light, straightforward read that moved along quickly without slowing down at all! I'm definitely interested in reading more of Miranda's adventures.

Death A Sketch is the third book in the A Paint & Shine Mystery series by Cheryl Hollon, this is the first book I’ve read in this series, and the first book I have read by this author.
I enjoyed the concept of Miranda’s business, Appalachian adventure tours with art , but overall I found there to be a bit too much going on in the story for my personal taste, also there is quite a large cast of characters to keep track of , I found myself frequently referring to the character list the author thankfully included at the beginning of the book.
The mystery itself was good, I was unable to identify the culprit until they were revealed .
If you’re looking for a unique cozy mystery give this one a read!

had a hard time getting into the story, but as I progressed I enjoyed it more and more. I enjoyed the unusual setting and the concept of Miranda’s business. The characters were fun and I particularly liked Austin and the sisters. I would give this series another try.

I loved the fall setting and the plan of the Thanksgiving training. The characters were all well done. They were very suspicious and petty and frustrating. Some of them grew into better people as the training went on. Some of the secrets were easy to figure out, but The Who behind the secrets was a surprise right up until the end. I also liked the but at the end where Miranda thinks of how she vet people better next time.
This was a great book full of characters that drove me nuts. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books.

The third installment of the Paint & Shine Mystery series by Cheryl Hollon is a pure delight and can be enjoyed as a stand alone book or read in series order. Death A Sketch is a fun murder mystery with a hint of corporate scandal. Miranda has her work cut out for her with her latest corporate client. Mixing Type A personalities and a win or get fired competition leads to sabotage, romance and murder. Hollon keeps you turning the pages with her creative writing style, intriguing characters and building anticipation of solving the many mysteries which culminate to the ultimate who done it. I thoroughly enjoy this series and loved Death A Sketch. Each book continues to draw you deep into the characters and Kentucky landscape!

Hard to put down cozy mystery.

Miranda host an employee retreat in the Appalachians via her business, Paint and Shine. During the course of the retreat, a company employee is found dead. Miranda, using her talent of noticing things other people don’t, helps to try and solve the murder.

The protagonist, Miranda, is a great addition to the cozy world. I love that she sketches out a murder book to help her solve the mystery. The supporting characters, Austin, Lily, Iris, Sheriff Larson and his wife Felicia all add to the excitement of the story. The company employees range from nice to obnoxious and help create the competing atmosphere the author was going for. And last but not least, how can you not adore, Sandy, Miranda’s terrier puppy.

The plot was full of adventure, good food, and surprises. The author kept the story moving from page to page, and the reader guessing until the very end. An added bonus, there are several recipes included at the back of the book.

This is the third book in the series, but I have not read any of the books. I was able to follow the story without any problem and didn’t feel like I was missing anything from starting the series with book three.

My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions expressed are
my own.

Miranda Trent may have bitten off more than she can chew. She agreed to host a corporate retreat, but when the participants arrive, it turns out to be a competition, with jobs on the line. Hardly the kind of easy going Appalachian Paint and Shine outing she usually hosts. And when one of the bosses turns up dead on the trail, Miranda (and her Forest Ranger Austin) has to find the truth.
This is a larger cast of characters than usual, and it takes a little time for the reader to sort them all out, but they reflect a variety of types to be found in any office, and the varying levels of comfort with nature and with sketching. (Although they all seem quite happy with Miranda’s distillery!)
This is the third in Hollon’s Paint and Shine mysteries. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s well worth it to read the first two books, too. The characters are interesting, the setting is lovely, and the mystery is challenging!

Miranda Trent worries she’s bitten off more than she can chew with a 4-day version of her combination eco-tour and wilderness art experience. To keep income flowing over the winter, she recently expanded to include corporate team-building. However, on her first team-building event, a person dies on the trail, adding to her already high stress level.
Trusty dog Sandy along with hunky sidekick and ranger Austin Morgan add zesty fun to this delightful addition to Hollon’s Paint ‘n Shine series.
Though I love to guess whodunit as I read, the culprit for this book came as a complete surprise. A fab read and some great recipes. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.

I really enjoy this series, I love the premise and really like how Miranda is growing her business, coming home and helping those around her at the same time. The team building employee retreat was a great idea and an interesting way to bring a bunch of suspects to a familiar location. While I have been on such team building adventures in my career, fortunately none of them included a murder, and while I have had some bosses I was not fond of I have never dealt with executives as nasty as those found in this story. I enjoyed the journey here but did think the ending was pretty fast and without a great deal of detail. That said I can't wait for the next adventure!

I love Miranda and her paint and shine business. I don’t think you could pay me enough to work for the company she hosted for their retreat. The mystery was good and I always enjoy these books since they take place so close to where I live and I love the ale-8 mentions.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Death a Sketch by Cheryl Hollon is a lovely mystery set around Thanksgiving. There is always so much going on in this corner of Kentucky.
Will Miranda figure out who took out Mr. Burns before the end of the teambuilding conference?
Miranda Trent
Miranda is our sleuth. She is an entrepreneur running her tour business and start-up distillery, and it seems she has other plans in the works. Miranda is settling into a route, but she still worries about everything. Although, Austin does seem to help her stay grounded. Her mother isn't in this installment for the most part, but the Hobb sisters are there whipping up some fabulous food for our conference goers. Even the sheriff is coming around to allow Miranda to assist him with his investigation.

I really like Miranda. She is intelligent, hard-working, and knows what she wants in life. This lady is not afraid of going after her dreams. However, I do worry about her looming deadline. I hope in the next installment, she gets past it, and all is well.
The Mystery
Death a Sketch CRWhile hiking back from one of her activities with the team building corporate executives, they find the administrative assistant bent over one of the bosses lying across the trail unconscious. This complicates things and takes time from the already busy schedule. However, Mr. Burns was a jerk and truly needed his comeuppance. I don't think killing him was fair, but sometimes it happens. At least in cozy mysteries.

Anyway, Miranda keeps going with the workshop even with all the demands and last minute changes that the corporate bigwigs keep adding. Austin and Miranda still find time to do a little investigating of their own and continue growing their relationship.

I enjoyed the story; I didn't figure out who did it. Although, now I can see the clues. Isn't that the way it goes?
Four Stars
My rating for Death a Sketch by Cheryl Hollon is four stars. While I enjoyed the mystery and the characters, I found a couple of timeline discrepancies that took me out of the story, making me question what I had read previously. Other than that, it's fantastic.

There these wonderful recipes at the back of the book. So, be sure to check it out. The recipes are Honeysuckle Fizz, Lemon Shine, RC Shine, Homemade Herb Crackers, Chicken Noodle Soup, Side Dish - Three Bean Salad, Chicken Pot Pie, Candied Sweet Potatoes, and Chocolate Creme Pie.

If you haven't started this series, I recommend that you do.
