From Jack and the Beanstalk to Snow White to the Three Little Pigs, Dahl manages to revive old, worn fairy tales into quirky adventures full of violence and gross details.
"Poor Cindy's heart was torn to shreds.
My Prince! She thought. He chops off heads!
How could I marry anyone
Who does that sort of thing for fun?"
I will say, each story surprised me with the ending - often darker than the stories that we are used to. I liked some of the little twists that he gives to other little fairy tales and others had me shaking my head, asking why???
"The little pig began to pray
But Wolfie blew his house away.
He shouted, 'Bacon, Pork, and Ham!
Oh what a lucky wolf I am!'
And though he ate the pig quite fast,
He carefully kept the tail till last."
