4 'love all year long' Stars!

It looks like this Christmas I am sure enjoying a few anthologies. I am a sucker for short stories from some of my favorite authors so I decided to grab this one because many of them are involved in this project. A Year of Love is full of stories revisiting some old characters and meeting new ones and I sure loved that! I did have three favorites: Ilsa Madden-Mills (I hope she continues this story!), Elle Kennedy and K. Bromberg. As I said, another wonderful anthology to read this time of year!

January – Ringing in the New Year by Helena Hunting, H. Hunting: 4 'banana costumes' Stars!
February – Skating on the Stars by Debra Anastasia: 3 'ice and stars' Stars!
March – Butterfly, Broken by Ilsa Madden Mills: 4 'pears' Stars!
April – April Fools by Max Monroe: 4.5 'Florida vacation' Stars!
May – Operation: Mile High Club by BB. Easton: 4 'Mile High Club' Stars!
June – Free to Love by Kennedy Ryan: 4 'jubilee' Stars!
July – Weekend Fling by Elle Kennedy: 4.5 'Poodle' Stars!
August – Training Camp by Sarina Bowen: 4 'cuter than a herd of puppies' Stars!
September – No Drama, Seriously by Tijan: 3 'no drama' Stars!
October – Possession by KF Breene: 3.5 'his magic' Stars!
November – Forever More by K. Bromberg: 4.5 'what's official?' Stars!
December – My Secret by W. Winters: 4 'my Scarlet angel' Stars!

I've read only Helena's & Debra's story in this anthology!

January (Lav & Kody) ~Helena Hunting
Spending the holidays with our Pucked-All In gang! We have banana costumes, all the siblings & their fun dramas, lace & some hot Lav+Kody 😍 sexy times. Yay!

February (Pixie & Gaze) ~Debra Anastasia
Spending the valentine's day with the Burathons as Gaze tries to do the perfect proposal to Pixie, with some help of course! A fat raccoon is the guest star 😆. Gaze+Pixie are the sweetest 🥰.

I'm not reading the other stories of this amazing free anthology as I am not familiar with the other established couples yet, it'll be more fun when I do know them (like the above 2 pairs!). I totally recommend these cute short stories!

With anthologies, I always try to read all the stories since it’s a good way to discover new and good authors.

I was really excited to read some of them and I really liked the idea of the anthology but I didn’t connect or enjoyed post of the stories.

My favorite short story was Weekend Fling by Elle Kennedy.

Solo lei la historia Ringing In The New Year de H. Hunting.

1.5 Estrellas!

JANUARY – RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR by H. HUNTING

FEBRUARY – SKATING ON THE STARS by DEBRA ANASTASIA

MARCH – BUTTERFLY, BROKEN by ILSA MADDEN MILLS
4*
Everly wakes up in a college for supernaturals but she's just a human. Right? Bodhi, Evan and Rune are looking for their mate and think Everly is it. The only reason I'm not giving this 5* is bc I needed more of this story! IMM is one of my favorite authors so I knew this was gonna be amazing. I just need the full novel. Unfortunately, I don't think it's happening.

APRIL – APRIL FOOLS by MAX MONROE

MAY – OPERATION: MILE HIGH CLUB by BB. EASTON
5*
Brooke wants to join the Mile High Club with her husband Ken. He's not as thrilled to do it. It was such a great story about a great marriage and how good things can be even if they don't turn out the way you want.

JUNE – FREE TO LOVE by KENNEDY RYAN

JULY – WEEKEND FLING by ELLE KENNEDY
4*
Kate goes to the family lake house with her brother, his girlfriend and her brothers best friend, Nick. Even though Kate has always crushed on Nick he has teased her over the years. One drunken night and he reveals he's had feelings for her the whole time. This was really sweet and EK has always been able to bring humor into her love stories which was great!

AUGUST – TRAINING CAMP by SARINA BOWEN

SEPTEMBER – NO DRAMA, SERIOUSLY by TIJAN

OCTOBER – POSSESSION by KF BREENE

NOVEMBER – FOREVER MORE by K. BROMBERG

Ringing in the New Year by Helena Hunting – 4 Stars
Ringing in the New Year is quick check in with one my favourite Helena Hunting couples, Lavender and Kodiak. It’s cute, hot, and funny as only Hunting can write. This short story reminded me that I need to reread Littles Lies because it’s that good.

Skating on the Stars by Debra Anastasia – 2 stars
Skating on the Stars is a quick follow up to Drowning in Stars. I have not read Drowning in Stars, so this short story didn’t have an impact on me. It also didn’t convince me to read the novel either despite it being on my radar for so long.

Butterfly, Broken by Ilsa Madden Mills – 2 stars
Butterfly, Broken is a mess. Mills bit off more than she could chew thereby making Butterfly, Broken a messy introduction to what would be an even messier paranormal romance. My biggest issue with the story was Mills’ decision to have Everly know nothing about the world, but obviously being important moving forward. It made everything that happened confusing for no reason. I will definitely not be reading the full length version of this.

April Fools by Max Monroe – 5 Stars
April Fools is one of the best short stories of the anthology and I’m incredibly happy that it will be turned into a full length novel. April Fools works well as a short story giving readers a quick and steamy story, but a full length novel will be chef’s kiss!

Operation: Mile High Club by BB Easton – 3 stars
Well, I’m glad I didn’t read 44 Chapters about 4 Men because I am not really a fan of this type of writing style. The style where the author is clearly talking to the reader while telling a story. Operation: Mile High Club is funny, but the narration ruined it for me.

Free to Love by Kennedy Ryan - 4 stars
Free to Love is a quick peek into an intimate moment between the characters as they’re about to get married. This story showcases the love and frustration that goes into planning a wedding.

Weekend fling Elle Kennedy - 5 stars
Kennedy knows how to deliver! Weekend Fling is easily the best short story of the anthology. It’s cute, sexy, and fun. Mostly importantly, it reads like a short story.

Training Camp - Sarina Bowen - 4 stars
Training Camp is CUTE!

No Drama, Seriously by Tijan - 3 stars
Interesting start to a full length novel, however I haven’t always jived with Titan’s novels so we’ll see!

Possession by KF Breene - - 3.5 stars
I almost DNF’d this one based on the writing. It felt unpolished and I wasn’t a fan of where the story seemed to be heading. However, I’m glad I continued. Possession is the beginning of a sexy and list filled demon story that I would definitely read.

Forever More - K. Bromberg - 4 stars
Forever More is an incredibly cute thanksgiving story in the vein of November 9 by Colleen Hoover.

My Secret - W. Winters - 3 stars
A quick and sexy read.

Overall, A Year of Love is one of the better anthologies I’ve ever read. It features a great mix of genres so readers will be sure to find something to their liking.

JANUARY – RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR by HELENA HUNTING
This was a funny and great story. I loved to see a little bit of Alex and Violet. I really enjoyed this one.

FEBRUARY – SKATING ON THE STARS by DEBRA ANASTASIA
A really short but hilarious story of an engagement question. I laughed with this one!

MARCH – BUTTERFLY, BROKEN by ILSA MADDEN MILLS
How could you?! You need to finish this!! Loved it so far!

APRIL – APRIL FOOLS by MAX MONROE
It was funny and sweet.
I'm not intrigued enough to read the full book when it comes out.

MAY – OPERATION: MILE HIGH CLUB by BB. EASTON
I love this author! This was so funny to read! I want to buy a private plane for them just for the MHC! Lol

JUNE – FREE TO LOVE by KENNEDY RYAN
Sweet, but not enough to swoon me over.

JULY – WEEKEND FLING by ELLE KENNEDY
I didn't know what to think it feel about Michelle, but I get why she got angry when she learned about Jess. I adore these kind of friends turned more.

AUGUST – TRAINING CAMP by SARINA BOWEN
I LOVED this one so much!! It was so sweet!!
That kiss wow that made me swoon so hard!! I need to find video's like this, it just made this book my favorite of all of these!!

SEPTEMBER – NO DRAMA, SERIOUSLY by TIJAN
This was a fun read with drama even though Mara didn't want drama.

OCTOBER – POSSESSION by KF BREENE
I am not a paranormal fan and if I read it I'm selectieve of them. I did like it, but not enough to read more about them.

NOVEMBER – FOREVER MORE by K. BROMBERG
Fun read. It was special how they spent Thanksgiving together and tried to meer that way.
I really adored this story.

DECEMBER – MY SECRET by W. WINTERS
I am intrigued about the profesion of the dude (forgot the name.)

I think it’s important to say that I loved the books I read here. They’re all AMAZING. But these brief short stories didn’t work for me. They’re too short to have a context and a plot development. And It wasn’t enough to convince me to go out and read the books I haven’t...

OVERALL: 3 stars — August and November were the stand outs for me! I think I’m starting to realize I may not be into anthologies of short stories, especially when often times they are fan service, and if you’re not already a fan it leaves you a bit in the lurch.

JANUARY – RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR by HELENA HUNTING, H. HUNTING
2.5 stars — I just don’t think I share the same sense of humour as Ms. Hunting. Reading this didn’t make me laugh, only cringe…kind of like how I felt reading Pucked. I guess I prefer her more subdued takes (because I loved Pucked Off. I also felt really lost in this one, and I can’t help but think this was a fan service short story…but unfortunately that doesn’t help someone who isn’t as familiar.

FEBRUARY – SKATING ON THE STARS by DEBRA ANASTASIA
3.5 stars — This is another case of fan service I think, but I was still able to connect with the characters, and understand what was going on (even if I wasn’t previously invested in the couple). I enjoyed the situation, and what I could see of the relationships.

MARCH – BUTTERFLY, BROKEN by ILSA MADDEN MILLS
2 stars — Short stories are really hard to do and have them feel complete. This one definitely didn’t feel complete. The story jumped right in, with no explanation, and by the end of it, it felt like the prologue of a book. Not a prequel, a prologue — because there was zero resolution, not even temporary. And unfortunately, I wasn’t that sucked in (I kept internally asking stupid questions about the plot).

APRIL – APRIL FOOLS by MAX MONROE
3.5 stars — It’s funny, this one they specifically said they were planning on expanding, but I was pretty happy with it! It was cute, and felt complete enough (especially for a short story). I was worried I wasn’t going to like Katy, but once she let go, she felt more real and human.

MAY – OPERATION: MILE HIGH CLUB by BB. EASTON
DNF — I don’t know, I think my brain can’t get past the non-fiction part and let myself get taken away. It’s a me thing.

JUNE – FREE TO LOVE by KENNEDY RYAN
3.5 stars — I have NO IDEA why, but while the writing was great, I just didn’t connect with this one. Not even the steamy scenes. Might have been just me, who knows.

JULY – WEEKEND FLING by ELLE KENNEDY
3.5 stars — Started off a bit rockier, and initially I had a hard time getting excited about Nick because his positive attributes were all physical…but it settled in when the misunderstandings were cleared up and I enjoyed it.

AUGUST – TRAINING CAMP by SARINA BOWEN
4.5 stars — Absolutely freaking adorable. Loved it from start to finish.

SEPTEMBER – NO DRAMA, SERIOUSLY by TIJAN
3.5 stars — Initially started off feeling like I wouldn’t enjoy it as much since I hadn’t read other books by Tijan…like I was missing something. Which was partially true, but also just leaving mysteries until the end, which isn’t my fave. Mildly intrigued by Mara, but not sure enough.

OCTOBER – POSSESSION by KF BREENE
2.5 stars — Felt like i was dropped into a world that perhaps other readers might know more of…if not, it was just a lot to take in for a short story, and I guess my brain just wasn’t interested.

NOVEMBER – FOREVER MORE by K. BROMBERG
4 stars — Now that was a solid short story. The pacing was great, and I really enjoyed the tale of Annie and Lyric.

DECEMBER – MY SECRET by W. WINTERS
3 stars — My need for all answers overshadowed my enjoyment of the story…besides, I’m not usually into bad guys.

12 different stories, 1 for each month. I read each one in its month so some are a little fuzzy. It did take until about April before I got one I really liked. With anything with multiple authors there were some of these that I enjoyed a lot more than others.

This was an interesting mix of novellas. What drew me in was the related Lie for a Lie with Kody and Lavender. The issue for people who haven’t read the Pucked Series is the characters could all be confusing … and there’s a lot of them!

The remainder of the 11 novellas ranged from a couple of DNFs to some ok reads and a couple of good ones. Loved the mile high one- so hilarious! Really the other books were glimpses of the longer books by the authors.

These are a great opportunity to road test books by authors who you might not be familiar with. I appreciate being able to do that having picked this up through someone’s story on Instagram.

Getting in one final book before the new year. Some cute short stories and obviously the best ones are from some of my favorite romance authors. Really enjoyed Elle Kennedy’s and Sarina Bowen’s stories. They were super cute. Would totally also read more of Ilsa Madden-Mills’ and K.F Breene’s stories as they were interesting supernatural type romances that were just starting out.

A real mixed bag. Loved Elle and Sarina's stories, Tijan's has me intrigued for where we go next . Some of the others were cute but I must admit there wasn't anything I read that would make me go and hunt out work for those I haven't already read (or invest in an existing series which is a lot of books long.)

Such a fun concept; each author was given a month of the year to base their short story on. I love that idea! Some of the stories were great, some I skipped. I enjoyed reading the short story in whichever month it was, but nothing really stood out to me in the end.

So far I've read 2 stories and absolutely loved both! I'll update as I read more!

Ringing in the New Year by H. Hunting was such a steamy treat! I loved getting more of these characters, and it left me needing Mavericks book even more!

April Fools by Max Monroe is a seriously fun story! Enemies to Lovers with the Max Monroe rom-com twist, I loved every minute and would love to see this expanded into a full-length novel!

A Year of..unevenness is much more of an apt title.
This is an anthology of short stories that focuses on a particular holiday or iconic day found in the respective months that each story is centered on. The synopsis for this anthology would have you believe this is a collection of short stories about love focused on the respective month given to each respective author. These ARE short stories, however a LOT of them missed the point of what a short story is… these stories are supposed to be complete not with a cliffhanger or you wondering why so much attention was given to characters that never made it onto the scene or mentioning the idea of having a true mate and then never bothering to get around those characters discovering that they are indeed each other’s mates. Without further ado…
January: 4/5 Cute story and as it’s the first one presented in the book, it started out strongly. However, what was the deal with mentioning the other brother and NEVER finding out why he was absent? Also, I get that we were focused on it being New Years, but shouldn’t we have gotten a Happy New Year or some declaration of love? So why a 4/5 you ask… because I’m a sucker/huge fan of sex positivity. Especially amongst you people.
February: 5/5 THIS was everything. I didn’t even care that the background of the characters was kinda muddled. This little proposal gone wrong, but oh so right had everything. From laugh out loud moments to a tender moment of two people being perfectly in sync with one another.
March: 1/5 The inclusion of this was a complete and utter head scratcher. There was no love story AT ALL. Geez, I don’t even think there was any story here. It was a mashup of several genres that could’ve been a decent novel if given the appropriate amount of time and attention. Seriously, why was this included? The Ides of March, with the significance/allegory spelled out clearly in the story, would’ve been BRILLIANT had the day actually occurred within the story and we got to see her lover(s) save/help her from whatever she’s going through.
April: 7/5 Katy and Mack are sooooo cute. The story was short and just all sorts of beautifully sweet in an authentic way. I hope the author follows thru and we get a full blown novel in the bit too distant future.
May: 10/5 EPICALLY HILARIOUS!! If you have kids and ever tried doing a sexy getaway with your significant other. This story is a homage to you and all your best laid plans going out the window.
June: 6/5 Kennedy Ryan… do I need to say anything else? Black love and the power of true partnership and the freedom to choose your destiny!! This story was everything. Ma. Ryan is proving to be my favorite writer of 2021.
July: 4/5 Truth be told I wanted to not like this because it’s a ridiculously old and PREDICTABLE trope. Seriously nothing unique happened here and you could see what was coming miles away. But goodness, it was still fun to read about Kate and her weekend July trip.
August: 4/5 I think I need to read more hockey themed stories. Because this was entirely too cute! TikTok incorporation too. Swoon
September: 2/5 I had no clue where this was going or even if I should be invested in Mara and her quest for a no-drama existence. Seriously, what was this about? And no I’m not interested in reading any of those books set in that world
October : 7/5 🤔😊😊😊THIS WAS AMAZING! KF Breene did not disappoint. Our snarky heroine was taking no mess from anybody, least of all her soul mate/demon king. I kinda want more, but this was perfect as is.
November: 5/5 Soooo cute. Forevermore! I thoroughly enjoyed this. Short. Sweet. No loose threads. Perfect!
December: 3/5 I enjoyed this. But I think it was more to do with the whole mysterious man romance than this being about any real traditional love story.. was kinda hoping for a moment where they get together for real. One of them professing their undying love and wish to have something longer than a night of passionate sex to one another. Besides… what exactly happened other than them hooking up?

JANUARY – RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR by H. HUNTING
I did enjoy Little Lies and the All-In series, but the problem on those and here is that there are just too many characters and family connections and similar names… I got curious about Maverick, tough. So, there’s that.

FEBRUARY – SKATING ON THE STARS by DEBRA ANASTASIA
Cute, but I didn’t know the characters so didn’t engage. I think I added the previous novel to my want-to-read list, but not sure I’ll actually do it.

MARCH – BUTTERFLY, BROKEN by ILSA MADDEN MILLS
OMG I need to know more asap!!!
I don’t know this author, but she kept me hooked and I’m now intrigued to read the rest of this and more of her work.

APRIL – APRIL FOOLS by MAX MONROE
Bof.

MAY – OPERATION: MILE HIGH CLUB by BB. EASTON
I didn’t care for 44 Chapters About 4 Men, but I LOLed my way through this. I guess I dig BB Easton if in small doses.

JUNE – FREE TO LOVE by KENNEDY RYAN
I thought I had DNF this, but I actually totally skipped it. Not going back tough, sorry.

JULY – WEEKEND FLING by ELLE KENNEDY
Ohhhhh I liked it. A lot. Loved the banter, the steam and the main couple. Don’t feel the need to have more of them, though.

AUGUST – TRAINING CAMP by SARINA BOWEN
This was super cute <3
Another one that mentions a lot of previous characters from the series, but it distracted me much less than January’s novella.

SEPTEMBER – NO DRAMA, SERIOUSLY by TIJAN
That picked my interest! I’m hit or miss with Tijan and this is totally a hit. I will not read the book where Mara previously appeared, because the blurb didn’t do it for me, but I would read a full novel of Mara and Cruz.

OCTOBER – POSSESSION by KF BREENE
Too much time spent before they are face to face. If this was a novel, I’m not sure I would have finished – at least I would have skipped a lot.

NOVEMBER – FOREVER MORE by K. BROMBERG
I was not super sold on the premise because I’m not much into musician romances. But then I started to read and couldn’t stop. The end was a little abrupt but, overall, it was cute.

DECEMBER – MY SECRET by W. WINTERS
I didn’t understand anything. It was too mysterious. Instead of wanting me to know more, it got me too lost.

As anthologies go, this one was a good one. It had so many of my favorite authors. Here are mini reviews for the novellas I read in it.

JANUARY – RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR by HELENA HUNTING, H. HUNTING
I loved being back in the world of Little Lies with the Pucked kids. I adore Violet and Kodiak. I can't get enough of their relationship. I'm also really curious about what's going on with Maverick and when Josiah will finally tell his parents about his relationship.

APRIL – APRIL FOOLS by MAX MONROE
This enemies to lovers romance between two teachers was so much fun! I was so happy to hear they are going to make it into a full length novel.

MAY – OPERATION: MILE HIGH CLUB by BB. EASTON
I want to say "poor Ken", but he must love BB's wild and crazy ways. This novella was crazy fun.

JUNE – FREE TO LOVE by KENNEDY RYAN
A crazy mother-in-law-to-be makes this bride angry at her man, which results in some hot and sweet moments. It was a fun read from Ryan. A little less emotional than I expect, but I'm not complaining.

JULY – WEEKEND FLING by ELLE KENNEDY
This could have been a full-length novel and I would have been very happy. I loved the older brother's best friend that she can't stand aspect of the story combined with hating her brother's girlfriend. There were so many fun moments and a surprisingly sweet romance.

AUGUST – TRAINING CAMP by SARINA BOWEN
The last novella I read from Bowen turned into a full length novel and she needs to do that with this one, too. It was ADORABLE. A shy intern and a helpful rookie? More please.

SEPTEMBER – NO DRAMA, SERIOUSLY by TIJAN
Mara from Rick Prick gets a novella that will become a full-length book. Loved it and I'm ready for more!

NOVEMBER – FOREVER MORE by K. BROMBERG
Two unlikely friends/neighbors who meet every year on Thanksgiving until they admit their love. Sweet and cute.
