When an explosion rattled the cobblestone streets of Ireland in 1998, it left the CIA questioning one of their own, but Intel officer Tom Walsh refuses to believe his friend Sean is guilty. Tom is certain Sean wasn’t behind the misdirection of information that led to the deaths of dozens, but he’s missing and the CIA won’t go back to find him or the truth.

Unwilling to let Sean become a scapegoat for a botched mission, Tom quits the CIA and takes an unsanctioned contract job with the hopes of finding his friend and those responsible for the deadly attack. But when the new mission goes awry, Tom finds himself in a battle against an Irish dissident paramilitary group determined to strike again.

With only a hunch to go on and a red-headed bartender’s help, Tom puts himself in the path of danger and discovers his own passion for stepping in where the government can’t.

Get ready for Lights Out with this glimpse into the life of the man behind the SNAP Agency and what pushed him to find a better way to strategically protect and neutralize threats against America and her citizens. In this fast-paced novella you’ll meet Director Walsh as he assembles his team: Jack Hudson, Lyla Fox, Nicolás Garcia, and Kekoa Young.

This book was a really great introduction to the SNAP Agency team! So much was packed in to 120 pages of this novella, I really enjoyed it. We have a dual timeline here where we see some events in 1998 Ireland going on and then 2007. Seeing the hardships they endured and how the team was formed was inspiring. This team really is a family and it makes me want to re-read Lights Out now before I continue in the series! What a great backstory, highly recommended picking this up before starting Lights Out :)

This novella is a nice overview of the SNAP Agency series. Tom Walsh, former CIA, formed the independent agency after leaving the CIA. Initium shows Tom's background and what drove him to start his own agency and how he put his team together. Lots of action, suspense, and danger with emotion and faith intertwined. Great read!

This one is a quick read, but so quick that I had a hard time connecting with the characters because it jumped around so much. I think my favorite scene was the one of meeting Kekoa. I’m going to enjoy hearing more from him.

It took a bit to get used to the year changing back-and-forth, but I’m glad I read this novella first, as it’s laid a lot of groundwork and backstories for the rest of the series. There were a few suggestive comments or hints, though, that makes me hesitate on ratings. We’ll see how the rest of the series goes in terms of content.

(Note: I did notice an error on page 109 that says it had been five days since a certain event, but the date marker at the beginning of the chapter says it’s only been two.)

Ah, this book was so satisfying! Getting to see how the SNAP Agency came together was fantastic! It's a novella, but there was so much packed into the story it felt full length.

It was such a surprise getting to know Tom better and to understand his motive for creating this agency. Then, seeing how he pulls in each new member put a smile on my face. Even Garcia's entrance (or exit) was great! Gosh, I can't wait for his story!

This was a split time, as well. Yes, I'm telling you this novella packs a punch! We go back to the late 90s when Tom is still part of the CIA, then the mid 2010s, and lastly, the "current" time!

This series has so much going for it. I can't wait to read them all!

This was a great introduction to the SNAP team. For a Novella, the story did not feel rushed or short and I enjoyed the historical story playing out in Ireland. The author did a great job of showing the fun and adventure side of the CIA, but also the risk and loss.

Looking forward to the first book in the SNAP Agency series!

Nice introduction to the SNAP Agency and the driving force behind it: Tom Walsh. This novella shows how the initial members were chosen and their background. It is interspersed with the events that were the catalyst fir the conception of the new organization. It cites the why and wherefore and is the foundation for the series.

Initium immerses the reader in a tension filled situation, as the CIA team embedded in Ireland must leave one of their team behind when they have to flee when their operation is threatened with exposure. The action and excitement does not let up as the story unfolds, following now former agent Tom Walsh, switching between his experiences after leaving Ireland in 1998 and the founding of the SNAP Agency twenty years later.

Tightly plotted, quickly paced, this is a well written novella and an exciting start to a Christian Suspense series. With introductions to Tom Walsh's fiancee, various associates, and the team he assembles for SNAP, this is a novella that leaves you with a picture of their personalities, relationships, skills, and so many possibilities of where this series may go. As for me, there are a specific characters I'm looking forward to having their time as the main protagonists and to see where the author takes them.

With two related timelines and plenty of action, Initium may best be enjoyed in a single-sitting. After meeting the team and Tom Walsh, the Director of SNAP, I'm looking forward to reading this series even more. Recommended.

“You know, I’m much more comfortable with terrorists than babies. At least terrorists have demands I can understand.”

What a great prequel novella to The SNAP Agency series! Granted, I read out of order and started this novella after finishing the series but that didn’t interfere with my enjoyment of the story. I loved getting to know the younger Director Tom Walsh as a CIA agent in the late 1990s. I also loved the more present timeline of SNAP team coming together slowly but surely into the fabulous quintet we know and adore. The backstory of why and how the team gets built is compelling and it becomes the key in the author’s last book of the series. Seeing the younger Jack, Lyla, Garcia, and Kekoa through Tom’s eyes during recruitment is super fun.

I received the book from Kav at Best Reads and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

It’s done yall…it’s done. What am I supposed to do??? No more stories about SNAP 😭. I guess I’ll just have to reread some day 😔.

I really enjoyed this one. It was cute finding all the nuggets and meeting all the characters for the first time again. I do wish we got more of Kekoa but I enjoyed all the characters and their back stories though! I didn’t love the prostitution ring scene with how Lyla was trying to take it down. But overall I really loved it!

And it was so fun to meet Walsh’s wife!! Okay I do have to say goodbye now to this amazing series. But if you’re looking for a Christian suspense series with CIA, FBI, Spies, and more look no further! I think would just recommend looking at content warnings and stuff for the other books before reading though. Byeeeee ✌🏽 😘

The story before the story was GREAT! So action packed and full even at 120 pages.
I loved seeing what fueled the SNAP Agency, though it was sad. And I loved seeing everyone getting recruited into the team, though it really is a family.

SO GOOD!

This is a great prequel novella to the SNAP agency series! I read Lights Out before reading this one and enjoyed getting some of the back story after reading book 1, but it probably would make better sense to read in order if you haven't read book 1 first. This book follows Tom Walsh, the head of the SNAP Agency and tells the story of what brought about his interest in building the team that becomes the SNAP agency. I enjoyed his back story as well as the more recent tale of seeking out the team members and their histories. There was a lot of story in this little book, but it didn't feel rushed or overwhelming. It was the perfect prequel! I really look forward to the rest of this series!

Ah, this book just makes my heart so happy!

Ireland, spies, missions, meaningful relationships, loyalty, and laughs! Plus the slight crossover to characters from Walters’s Harbored Secrets series was great.

So excited to jump into the foray of adventure with the SNAP Agency team!

This is a fabulous novella length introduction to the author's new series, The SNAP agency, which stands for Strategic Neutralization and Protection Agency. It is a pulse-pounding time split from 1998 to 2020 that details how the agency came about and what their goals are, from its origin and scope of work to the reason behind the agency's mission. I love all of the personalities that are a quite varied yet cohesive bunch with a single goal in mind, which is to form a team to support missions, whether on a national or international private security level.
This introduction is fast paced and the stakes are high, so this gives you the opportunity to meet Tom Walsh's team, Jack Hudson, Lyla Fox, Nicholas Garcia and Kekoa Young. It is fitting that Initium is a 17th century Latin word that means from the beginning. So if you are looking for a generous taste of the author's style in this new series which releases on November 2nd, this is the perfect place to start. If you want to catch up on her previous series, The Harbored Secrets series, I suggest starting with her fabulous debut, Living Lies, and then the rest of the three book series. She is a Carol Award Finalist and one of my favorite authors and I would not hesitate recommending ANY of her books!
I won a copy of this book from the author and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. This is all kinds of awesome! It's the prequel to Walters new SNAP Agency series but I have to say I liked reading it after I read the first book. I'm not sure why -- maybe because I'd already become invested in this top-notch team so it was fun to look back at their beginnings? And get inside the mind of their steely-eyed Director. :-)

Anyhow, I had all kinds of fun zipping through this little novella 'cause it was unputdownable. Tense with action and intrigue, Walters shows her readers why Tom Walsh felt the need to distance himself from the CIA and create his own powerhouse team of private 'agents'. Love the details of the set up and being introduced to each unique team member as Tom recruits them for his elite team.

I'm really pumped now and anxious to read more SNAP Agency novels asap. Which means, I sure hope the author and publisher release the next books in a timely fashion. :-)

I like it when authors write a prequel novel to introduce a series. The SNAP agency is a group of trained specialists who work together to help the government complete missions. Throughout this book, the reader gets to meet the characters who will be a part of this agency. I enjoyed getting to know their backstroy. Because the book jumped around a bit through time and from different characters, occasionally it was hard to follow. But I still enjoyed it. My rating is 4.5 stars.

One of the longer books that I read in October 2021 is not on Goodreads, so I am counting this one toward the reading challenge even though it is shorter. I did complete this book near the end of October. I received a complimentary copy because I preordered "Lights Out" which is the first book in the series.

A short but satisfying look at why the SNAP agency was created and how all the different members were recruited. Goes back and forth between Director Walsh twenty years ago and the present day. Lots of action and I actually think I enjoyed it more after reading a few books in the series because I already love the characters. Definitely one to pick up if you enjoy this series! 4.5 stars
