Through an exciting and rich narrative, History Early Times takes you on a journey into the past to experience the rise and fall of ancient civilizations and empires. In this homeschool history book, you’ll visit faraway places to meet and learn from everyday folks, famous world leaders, and even a few mythological characters.
Designed as a read-aloud for elementary-age children, an independent read for older students, or a journey of exciting adventures for family storytime, the series presents an immersive study of history in an engaging and memorable format.
We used this as one of our resources for history. My kids and I enjoyed it. I'm about 60% sure I will continue with the next book. I want to see what else is out there that's not white washed or weighed down with religion.
Used this as 3rd grade homeschool history curricula along with the separate study guide and was pleased with it. My 9 year old liked the history hops at the end of the chapters and I felt the information was dense but not overly difficult for her age. I learned quite a few things along the way too!
This is probably the best history textbook I've read for kids. I wish it was a bit less long-winded and that the chapters were broken into two chapters instead.
My third and first graders now say history is their favorite subject. They look forward to their lesson every week and are now excited to start Middle Times in a couple months.
Learned a lot reading this history book with the kids. The format of having the history hops at the end of each chapter helped cement the information. The kids could imagine going back in time and meeting a character from the time studied while coloring a picture of the encounter. Looking forward to the middle times this coming school year!
I was a little disappointed with this. I really appreciated the more diverse look at ancient history (not just Egyptian/Greeks/Romans) but I thought it was a bit dry for the intended age group and I found the narrator of the History Hop chapters to honestly be rather condescending towards most of the ancient practices. I think I'll just use chapters on the less common cultures (I particularly enjoyed the Incans) and keep hunting for a core history book.
This was a fabulous history book for homeschooling. We really enjoyed it. It covers so much of history while managing to be engaging and accessible for kids of all ages young age (mine were 6 & 8 while we read this). I even learned a lot from this book! It was a great conversation starter for us to spiral out into other topics based on what we had read. I’m so glad it was included as a part of our Build Your Library Curriculum.
We used this (and the accompanying study guide) for homeschool history this year. I absolutely loved it! It's a very thorough, age-appropriate curriculum about ancient times. The activities in the study guide were an excellent companion to this.
I found this resource to be an amazing introduction to History for my 9 year old. He loves the History Hops at the end of each chapter, and I was able to make worksheets from the supplemental study guide that pairs with this publication.
I read this aloud to my son as a part of our ancient history studies for 3rd and part of 4th grade and I thought it was excellent. It kept us both engaged, especially the History Hops after each chapter, and we both learned a lot.
