A native of Rochester, N.Y., he enlisted in the Navy upon graduation from high school in 1987. Since serving as a radio and television personality in with Armed Forces Radio and Television at Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland, and as a writer for Naval Aviation News magazine in Washington, D.C., Jerry worked in professional football for 20 years. He has produced thousands of articles for online publication during his career. Knaak started his sports writing career with Baltimore Football Weekly, covering the Canadian Football League.
When he’s not writing gritty tales of terror or researching gridiron heroics, Jerry enjoys reading, watching movies and good serial television, and exercise. He is also an avid blogger and hosts a regular podcast.

A promising start to novelist Jerry Knaak’s The Dark Passage series, “The Dark Truth” chronicles the relatively normal life of middle-aged public relations professional Elizabeth Rubis. At least, that’s how it started. Her life is forever changed when she is abducted and tragically murdered. The problem being is that she didn’t actually die so much as she was transformed into a vampire through a ritualistic murder. From that point onward, Elizabeth tries to carry on with her existence but also tries to navigate what it means to be a vampire. Characters that stood out to me the most were Blackfoot and Elizabeth’s best friend Julie. Julie is a ride-or-die kind of friend and although she is grossly underestimated by basically everyone in this book, she proves her strengths. If you enjoy coming-of-age style vampire books with a fair amount of gore, you should check it out.
