"But fate knew something we didn't" - Unknown
Do we have control over our heart, or does fate determine who our heart will fall for, even when it's unexpected?
THE TROUBLE WITH FATE, Kat T. Masen's latest instalment in her Forbidden Love series, addresses the role fate plays in the lives of Addison Edwards and Masen Cooper. So enjoyable was their story, I couldn't put it down. It's emotional, heartbreaking, fun, and incredibly hot. So, sit back, relax, and be prepared to be taken away by Kat's addictive words.
"Sometimes, Addison, your heart will not listen."
Addison Edwards was always a good girl. She's the daughter Lex Edwards has never had to worry about. She's focused on her goals for the future and has no interest in relationships. She has always followed her head rather than her heart, now that was all about to change when a man, she wasn't expecting, re-enters her life and confuses her emotions. That man is her best friend's older brother. Masen Cooper has a reputation for being a workaholic and a ladies' man, he's a player, and he's not ashamed to admit it wither. He is not a believer in relationships, and it suits him just fine. He's happy with his life and is not looking to change anything, until a night at his parents' changes everything. He feels a stirring inside that he's never felt before when he sees the beautiful woman sitting at his parent's table. What does fate have in store for Addy and Masen?
"The euphoric state I'm in is nothing like I've ever felt before. What we're doing is an addiction waiting to happen. I'd give everything I own to feel this moment for the rest of my life."
Chemistry, attraction, desire, and lust, spark and shine between Addy and Masen. Unable to deny what is occurring, they strike and agreement, can they adhere to that agreement or will what they share come to mean so much more? Caught between two brothers, Addy must tread lightly with her decision, not wanting to hurt either, however she must also do what is right for herself. I love that Masen struggles with his jealousy, an emotion he had never experienced before. Even though fate appears to have brought them together, it is the advice they receive from their loved ones that enables them to make their ultimate choice. Addy and Masen were perfectly matched, both being head strong and determined to deny what is happening, but also willing to go after what they wanted. Kat's ingenuity of having a love triangle involving two brothers ensured tension was high, jealousy strong, and the fear of someone being hurt more likely.
"I play dirty to get what I want. And I want her."
Once again Kat has come through with this amazing series, THE TROUBLE WITH FATE may have been Addy and Masen's story, however it was so much more. Kat beautifully explained how fate had shaped the lives of all couples within the series through situations that led to both acceptance and love. I loved that Kat had Lex providing his usual sage advice, without even having a temper tantrum, and to see the relationship that Masen had with his parents, Haden and Presley. The closeness of this extended family is evident through both their laughter and their tears.
I've been addicted to this series from the beginning, and I can only hope that Kat has more in store. THE TROUBLE WITH FATE was an exceptional and highly recommended read. If you haven't read the previous books, I suggest you start with Chasing Love and go from there.
