Forbidden Love #5

The Trouble With Fate

Rate this book
I am nothing like my sisters.

The Edwards’ daughters have a reputation for falling in love under forbidden circumstances.

Not me, though.

I’m the calm, collected one and Daddy’s new favorite since I cause the least trouble.

This is all thanks to my long-time best friend, Cruz Cooper.

He’s every bit the crazy person I’m not and keeps me grounded with college despite his wild ways.

We have all these plans to live off-campus, then start our careers without wasting our best years caught up in toxic relationships.

Until the night we had dinner with his parents.

And his older brother walked in….

Masen Cooper.

He looked nothing like I remembered. Tall, muscular—sexy in ways I prefer not to think about. Yet five minutes spent with him, and he is clearly still the arrogant jerk who would taunt me as a kid.

Now, he has his eyes on me once again.

But this time, he wants to play a different type of game.

One which will force me to choose between two brothers…

The pacing felt all over the place. The start of the "relationship" between Addison and Masen came out of nowhere. The whole book is them hooking up then just all of a sudden they are in love? There was no development, no growth, nothing between them beyond sleeping together. I don't even remember them really even having a conversation. It felt like some scenes were missing and I couldn't see how they went from point A to B. Just overall very bleh

Also the way Masen thought about how hot he thought Addison's mom was and how he wanted to sleep with her was just gross and totally turned me off his character.

"But fate knew something we didn't" - Unknown

Do we have control over our heart, or does fate determine who our heart will fall for, even when it's unexpected?

THE TROUBLE WITH FATE, Kat T. Masen's latest instalment in her Forbidden Love series, addresses the role fate plays in the lives of Addison Edwards and Masen Cooper. So enjoyable was their story, I couldn't put it down. It's emotional, heartbreaking, fun, and incredibly hot. So, sit back, relax, and be prepared to be taken away by Kat's addictive words.

"Sometimes, Addison, your heart will not listen."

Addison Edwards was always a good girl. She's the daughter Lex Edwards has never had to worry about. She's focused on her goals for the future and has no interest in relationships. She has always followed her head rather than her heart, now that was all about to change when a man, she wasn't expecting, re-enters her life and confuses her emotions. That man is her best friend's older brother. Masen Cooper has a reputation for being a workaholic and a ladies' man, he's a player, and he's not ashamed to admit it wither. He is not a believer in relationships, and it suits him just fine. He's happy with his life and is not looking to change anything, until a night at his parents' changes everything. He feels a stirring inside that he's never felt before when he sees the beautiful woman sitting at his parent's table. What does fate have in store for Addy and Masen?

"The euphoric state I'm in is nothing like I've ever felt before. What we're doing is an addiction waiting to happen. I'd give everything I own to feel this moment for the rest of my life."

Chemistry, attraction, desire, and lust, spark and shine between Addy and Masen. Unable to deny what is occurring, they strike and agreement, can they adhere to that agreement or will what they share come to mean so much more? Caught between two brothers, Addy must tread lightly with her decision, not wanting to hurt either, however she must also do what is right for herself. I love that Masen struggles with his jealousy, an emotion he had never experienced before. Even though fate appears to have brought them together, it is the advice they receive from their loved ones that enables them to make their ultimate choice. Addy and Masen were perfectly matched, both being head strong and determined to deny what is happening, but also willing to go after what they wanted. Kat's ingenuity of having a love triangle involving two brothers ensured tension was high, jealousy strong, and the fear of someone being hurt more likely.

"I play dirty to get what I want. And I want her."

Once again Kat has come through with this amazing series, THE TROUBLE WITH FATE may have been Addy and Masen's story, however it was so much more. Kat beautifully explained how fate had shaped the lives of all couples within the series through situations that led to both acceptance and love. I loved that Kat had Lex providing his usual sage advice, without even having a temper tantrum, and to see the relationship that Masen had with his parents, Haden and Presley. The closeness of this extended family is evident through both their laughter and their tears.

I've been addicted to this series from the beginning, and I can only hope that Kat has more in store. THE TROUBLE WITH FATE was an exceptional and highly recommended read. If you haven't read the previous books, I suggest you start with Chasing Love and go from there.

This book was really cute. I knew the secret relationship was going to blow up but it was almost anti-climatic. Such a cute story and I look forward to reading more in the series and getting the sisters stories.

I received an ARC of this book and this review is my own honest opinion.

This book is great in every way, a fantastic best friends brothers romance, it has everything! It was spicy and hot! A perfect book written so well as usual by Kat adding to this amazing series.

What’s not to love when you get the steam and romance as well as Lex and Charlie?

If you haven’t read any of Kat’s books, then they are a must read and this book is no different.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was my favorite of the Edwards sisters books. Addy was so level headed and different from her sisters, it was fun to see her fall in love. As far as Masen, I always love an alpha male with a sensitive side.

ok it’s on me for reading this whole complicated spin off series out of order but now i’m invested and will be starting at the beginning to finish this whole family connected series bc i really enjoyed the characters in this book but bc i read it out of order i was so confused on who the characters are bc it wasn’t explained how they were related or connected bc it’s the last book in the series so whoops but some little context wouldve nice. but i gotta speak out on the little icks i had w this book like this family is open w their sex life it’s kinda concerning like why do you know your uncle figure has a dick piercing and that your parents fucked in certain places but also it’s kinda charming about their family being so close 😍 nah i was like a little icked out by it but ig it’s in the family for them to be so horny it’s actually crazy i wouldn’t survive if i was in that family bc ew yk. but anyways i also didn’t like how the guys in the book objectify women it was so icky the main guy was thinking that if his aunt figure wasn’t married he would do her like the author could’ve just not written that and the book would still be the same and also the guys in a relationship saying shit about women being hot made icked out maybe that’s just me idk i don’t like when men talk about women lol i could be nit picky but i just didn’t like that vibe i was getting yk. but besides that i did eat up this book like the tension and chemistry between the main couple was so good but looking back on it it was a little fast but there’s always been this attraction between them but also it was weird bc the prologue was the main guys pov when he was 17 and she was 13 and he was kinda being weird like she’s gonna grow up into an attractive girl like no she’s 13 stop but there’s always been that tension between them. and not seeing each other in years im like ok i get it whatever. it’s the normal enemies to lovers shit w the main girl not liking the main guy bc her best friend is his brother who doesn’t like him and maybe it’s explained why they don’t like each other in the previous books but i don’t get why they don’t get along i mean the main guy is kind of a dick to him when they were younger but idk i wanted more of an explanation but whatevs. the book mainly focuses on their relationship i kinda wanted more w their individual lives like w the main girl and her school and job and the main guy w his job and promotion coming up soon but beggars can’t be choosers. i do like the main couple together i cant lie like they have moments where i’m like omg y’all are so toxic but i just like you guys together. tbh all they do is fuck but it’s well written lol i wish there was more interaction w them talking and getting along without anything sexual but i can’t really remember whether there was a time for that but tbh this series isn’t for like a cute romance w well developed characters like it’s just a fun steamy romance and i like it the characters are fun interacting w each other and idk what i like about the couple but i want them together and happy maybe it’s bc i am insane but it’s whatever. also the best friend being in love w the main girl was so obvy it’s insane how she didn’t realize but ew when he kissed her when she was asleep it was so nasty tbh idk if i could forgive my bestie for that but hey they talked it out and he supports her w the main guy and kinda resolves his shit w him so it’s cute i do hate that the main girl just ended things w the main guy for hitting her bestie his brother without listening to him bc if i heard someone forced themselves on my love interest i would be pissed and i would like if someone fought for me again i’m literally insane and toxic but yeah they end up together anyways and i love them they’re so cute even tho all they do is fuck but let a girl read her smut in peace fr this gets a 8.5/10 i’ll be starting w the first book now.

Childhood best friends, Addison and Cruz, have always had each other's back. The only thing Cruz has ever had to contend with is his older brother, Masen, who is also best friends with Addison's older sister Ava.

Both of age, Addison is steadfast and focused on both her career path and her future she will not let anything deter her. Addison is also Cruz's biggest fan when it comes to football, clearly showing that their friendship is just that, friends.

Masen comes back into her life, and for the both of them, it invokes feelings neither one want to acknowledge or accept.

They engage in a tumultuous love affair, one they know they can't share with their family and friends. However, their family and friends aren't remiss in they way they have been acting. Her sister Ava is very astute.

But when Cruz admits his feelings for Addison, she can't help but push him away, only for him to make a grave error in judgement that pushes them apart further.

The funny thing about family is that parents always know what is going on with thier children, Haden and Presley and Lex and Charlotte are o excption, because they know what they're going through, because they themselves have been through it before.

Ava puts two and two together, giving Masen a warning not to hurt her baby sister, but it's in this moment they they both realise they're in love with each other.

Masen is in knots about his feelings for Addison, and Addison has a fear of reprisal, not wanting to hurt Cruz, but the damage is done.

Time apart helps Masen and Addison reflect on themselves individually and together, especially when Masen has that difficult conversation with Lex, Addison's father. Masen lays everything on the line. However, Lex is accepting of their relationship because when it comes to the women in his life, especially his daughter, their happiness is all that matters to him.

Addison, Masen and Cruz come to a mutual respect and understanding, which then allows Addison and Masen to pursue a relationship, as it was written in the stars, they were fated to be together, forever.

Kat T. Masen captured Addison and Masen's story perfectly. The push, pull, angst, and undeniable chemistry was there, and it was everything I could have hoped for. The intricate dynamics of their family make it easier for the readers to fall into a story, whilst meddlesome, they have their best interests at heart, because there are moments that will have you laughing out loud.

I would be remiss in saying that those smexy scenes were hot, steamy , spicy and scintillating and will have every woman wishing that they had a man like Masen dirty talking and worshipping the ground that they walk on.

Highly recommend both the author and the book! Now, onto Craving Love - Alexa and Hunter's story.

What can I say no wiser words than Lex Edwards.
“Sometimes, Addison, your heart will not listen,”

Boy did love show up in the least expected places for Addison and Masen.

Addison has always been a head strong. She doesn’t let her heart dictate her life but uses logic to live her life but when love comes knocking she is thrown off. She was never suppose to feel this way specially not with her best friends brother. Her mind set has always been to accomplish her goals and let no men come in between them.

Masen playboy party boy. He doesn’t believe in relationship. No women can hold his interest and he is okay with that. He is dedicated to his work but not to his love life but after years of not seeing Addison things change something primal stirs within him.

An agreement between the two occurs but can they keep their feelings in check. Throw Addy’s best friend in the mix not to mention he is Masen younger brother. What could go wrong? Can they overcome what ever obstacles is thrown at them and can they finally admit to one another what they feel for each other??

I loved it from the moment I read the first page. Addison is not your not your everyday heroine she is mature for her age and knows what she wants! You will not be disappointed if you have read the series from the begging and had read the the other books you know it only gets better and it’s worth the read.

I read a lot of romance. I am really trying hard to make it through the books I start. This book was a struggle.

This book reads like someone who is trying to sound smart creating fake scenarios on the internet so that they look impressive. It’s very cringe.

1. At one point the main character spontaneously O’s.
2. She’s a psych major who is majorly judging and Pearl clutching about a million things but isn’t approaching things in a truly mature manner ever.
3. The main characters rely so heavily on their past experiences and their story during the book itself has very little substance. The story line doesn’t really have burn, or even much angst, it’s almost written to get to each plot point but instead of world building they use side conversations and unrelated dialogue to get you there.
4. The side characters do not add to the story line in so many different parts of the books and there are just way too many of them.
5. This books talks way too much about their parents sex lives. Why?
6. The books reads like it’s written by a young inexperienced female who is writing based on what they think men like. It has a lot of male gaze going on.

I truly wish this author the best but really hope for lots of growth in their writing as they write more. Writing a book is a huge accomplishment and even though this book was not it for me at all, I hope they are super proud of what they have accomplished!

Another great book by the lovely Kat! I have been following the Edwards’ family from the beginning since 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆, and I have loved the second generation series that has followed.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑭𝒂𝒕𝒆 is the 5th book in the Forbidden Love series and follows the story of Addison and Masen. Addy is nothing compared to her wild and crazy sisters. She is quiet, calm, is focusing on her studies and working towards her career. She is not the type to get involved in relationships or one-night stands. Masen is your typical playboy, and has been living up to that reputation since he was teenager. He has no desire to have a relationship with any woman and is all for the one-night stands. However, one night when Addy went to his parent’s house for dinner with her best friend (Masen’s younger brother), fate had other plans and everything changed.

What started as a one-time thing, that turned into a two-time thing, seemed to snowball after that, and Addy and Masen, couldn’t get enough of each other. This book was filled with so much steam between the characters and to watch how their relationship blossomed out of hate was enthralling. I definitely recommend this book for those have been following the Edwards’ family.

last book of the forbidden love’ series and i have to say that is one of my favs of this series.
im not gonna lie and say that i loved the books because that’s not true , i enjoyed them but i didn’t fall in love with the stories (specifically the fourth book, i hated that one)

as for this book, i actually liked it and i didn’t found it boring at all.
i really liked the characters, tho i felt that their relationship started out of nowhere. everything goes really fast, like they have sex for the first time and the day after that they can’t tolerate see the other with other people and get jealous and then a week later they are in love…. ok

overall, i liked it. it’s the “forbidden love” and secret relationship trope that made me enjoy this book sm and read it in 5 hours. also, im a sucker for best friend’s brother trope, so it was kinda hard for me not to like this book.

i would recommend this series if you want to read something in a day. tho the author’s writing style is not my fav.

❤️‍🔥 forbidden love series :
- #1 The Trouble with Love: 3 stars
- #2 The Trouble with Us: 2 stars
- #3 The Trouble with Him: 2,5 stars
- #4 The Trouble with Her: 1,5 star
- #5 The Trouble with Fate: 3 stars

Tik Tok got me with this one. It’s 🌶️🌶️🌶️ but that’s basically it.

It’s a spicier version of The Summer I Turned Pretty with a mix of Twisted series. The pacing was all over the place — they were enemies in one chapter and just randomly wasn’t in the next with no real build up. If it was going to be straight smut then ok be that and don’t go mixing in a TON of side characters from the universe. You don’t really need to read the others in the series IMO, but they do make a ton of references and bring up characters that I just didn’t know how they mixed into the fold until maybe it was mentioned five chapters later. However, I’ll say again…the ton of side characters pipping in probably wasn’t needed.

Tbh, I just needed to read a KU this month to justify forgetting to cancel my subscription this month, and this came up on Tik Tok. If it wasn’t such a quick read, I probably would have DNF.

***spoiler***

…are we just going to glaze over the fact that the best friend assaulted her and she still took his side?

This book honestly surprised me, i wasn't expecting much after not liking the 4th book (Jessa & Andy... i just couldn't get over the fact that they were "cousins"), anyways... i kinda had an idea of what would happen, blowout with Cruz, Cruz professing his love and H&h breaking up eventually.

Although all of that happened, i feel like storyline was great, everything flowed nicely and there wasn't unnecessary dialogue. I feel like the author really wrote this one well. I felt like her books as begun to be repetitive and lacked originality (cheating, leaving fiancé/husband, pregnancy, proposal, etc.), there was talk of their future but the book didn't end in a proposal or pregnancy and didn't involve cheating which i found refreshing!

I do think the characters fell in love rather quickly and would've liked more insight on that progression because it seemed rather fast.

Everything I love about romance novels in one book

I spotted this series a while back but never gave it the chance it deserved. This is the only book in the series that I have picked up and will definitely not be the last. I’ve always gone straight to “brother’s best friend” trope in the search bar, so of course when this popped up in my recommendations, I had to read it. Masen and Addison had amazing chemistry right from the beginning. Even when he was older, you could tell that Masen knew Addison was special and different from the rest of the Edward’s girls. This read was everything I love about a romance novel; jealousy, possessiveness, and heat heat heat. Don’t get me wrong, there was a part of me who wanted her to choose her life long best friend, and brother of Masen, Cruz Cooper, but in the end you could tell that these two were meant to be. Masen wouldn’t have it any other way. I absolutely loved this book.

I debated back and forth on if I should leave one or two stars but I settled on two because the book was an easy read and an okay book to read in between book series but it felt a lot like a Wattpad book. I wanted to really like this book but I couldn't get invested in the story or the characters. The characters getting together came out of nowhere and the main female character goes on and on about how she doesn't hook up but then turns around and does just that without much thought. I would have preferred if we got a little more build up to them getting together then we'd be able to understand why she bent her rules. In addition, there needs to be conflict, fate can push people together but that doesn't change everyone's emotions, when people got upset they got over it and apologized a couple paragraphs later. That's not how real emotions work, it takes people time to work through their emotions and come to a place of understanding.

Fate

Love always seems to come with soo much struggles, like it seems it’s more hassle than it’s worth in the beginning. But then you see those who made it through the hard parts- Lex & Charlie, Julian & Adriana, Noah & Kate, Rocky & Nikki & they make you see how after all the rain, the sun shines even brighter & that all of the drama, the heart ache, the panic, it’s worth it 2 times over.

I liked that Addy was calm, that she was the opposite to all her sisters, never really letting much faze her, but damn when she walked into the office & demanded he taste her😮‍💨😮‍💨 that got me😂
Masen, yup he just sounds hot! I liked him straight away😂😂 I like even more when they don’t look for love & then it comes bowling them over😍

I was feeling sad for Cruz, but I knew if she wasn’t his one then of course there is another. In the end they all got their HEA, that’s all that ever matters to me. Plus the obvious hot asf smut😂

I'm really living all the forbidden romances in this series so far. Addie and Masen have always had an interesting dynamic with shades of Hate mixed in. But one family dinner after many years shifts the balance towards lust and though both refuse to fall in love somehow their feelings become involved anyway. But Masen isn't the only Copper man with potential feelings for Addie. His brother and her best friend also had his eyes set on her. Addie was different from her sisters and tended to focus more on her career than love. Masen is a playboy that never thought he would be tamed. It was interesting seeing the sparks fly along with the hot tension whenever they were in a room together. This series is so good and I'm anxiously awaiting the next book!

Masen & Addison ❤️❤️

I have read all of Kat T Masen’s books and liked all of them but some are extra special. Will’s and Amelia’s story (The Trouble with Love & The Trouble with Us) was one of my favorites. Masen and Addison reminded me of that W & A and is another favorite. I rated it a 5 because I liked them so much but would have given a 4.5 if that were an option. I wanted more. I felt like the story was rushed and the characters could have been better developed. As always I loved seeing the characters from previous books; it adds some comfort and connection to the story. This book is a good one—read and enjoy!

The final book in this series and WOW. A great one. The book is about the second to youngest Edwards daughter, Addison and her best friend, Cruz and his older brother Masen.
The love triangle in this book was too good. Jealously. Friendship. Love. Lust. Hate sex. All so lovely 🥵
Kat T. Masen has yet to disappoint. Out of the 11 books I have read of hers, 1 was rated less than 5 stars (and I gave it 4!).
Her smut is some of the best I’ve read.
Highly recommend.

Addison was such a strong female lead who knew exactly what she wanted and how to get it.
Even loved the very subtle love triangle between the brothers.

Totally obsessed with this series.
Also loved getting ore of Haden and Lex.
Bring on the next one...
And to quote Addison... “The pleasure was all mine!”

Do you have a favorite book series that you can't get enough of? The Dark Love Series and this Forbidden Love series are it for me. I'm dreading the day when this series is over. I want more. Addison and Masen heat up the pages thanks to the unexpected fate neither of them were expecting. I love seeing old characters in the background and getting a glimpse into their lives. The story can be read as a standalone, but you will be doing a disservice to yourself if you don't start at the beginning.

Happy📘Reading!

Of all the books in this series, this one was the lamest. There was no build up (not that there were any in the previous books) but still it felt like things happened out of nowhere. Masen popped up suddenly from god knows where. There was no reason for the hostility between Masen and Cruz. The problem with this series is, that the men are portrayed as these ambitious successful alpha males while the women are ambitious, yes, but I dont see them working throughout the entire book. Just engaging in mindless gossip and drama. How conveniently everything turns out for them.

Ugh Addy and Masen I absolutely love them. Such a good enemies to romance love story. Addy is so different compared to her sisters and reminds me a lot of Lex. Masen is hot and is not afraid to claim what he wants. Loved his possessive and jealous side. Of course what was supposed to hate sex didn’t last very long. I really loved their relationship together. It sure was spicy and hot hot hot! I binged the book in a couple hours. I will forever recommend this big and crazy family that you can’t help but love!

Daddy's new favourite, Addy is the calm, collected good girl to best friend, Cruz Cooper's wild ways. That is until dinner with the Coopers & the arrogant jerk who always used to taught her is nothing like she remembers.
Now he wants to play a different game!

Yet again another fantastic story with the 3rd Edwards daughter as the star.
A classic enemies-to-lovers romance that has suspense, drama & boat loads of spice.
We get plenty of extra family time but I loved getting to know the Cooper boys, especially how incredibly different they are.
