Jack suffered from an attack by the Blue Caps. He sued the RSN and won. He also sued the Royal Family and won. Now he’s acquired his own warship and his first mission is to rescue the princess.
What? Yes, Sofia is missing. The Queen has taken an intense dislike to her daughter’s ambitions and Sofia has disappeared. Jack sets out to rescue her with the assistance of Black Company marines.
The task is not as easy as it seems.
Join Jack and his bot and AI friends as they search for the missing princess. First, they must survive sabotage and alien threats. In the meantime, has Sofia, battered and bruised, rescued herself?
“Rescue The Princess” is the second book in the Jack Foster Space Opera series, a thrilling and action-packed sci-fi adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The book follows Jack Foster, a former RSN officer who sued the Royal Family and won, and his quest to rescue Sofia, the princess who has gone missing under mysterious circumstances. Along the way, he faces sabotage, alien threats, and a conspiracy that could shake the galaxy.
The book is a fast-paced and engaging read, with a well-developed plot and a diverse cast of characters. Jack is a likable and witty protagonist, who uses his intelligence, courage, and humor to overcome the challenges he faces. He is supported by his loyal bot and AI friends, who add humor and personality to the story. Sofia is a strong and independent princess, who does not wait for anyone to rescue her, but takes matters into her own hands. She is a formidable match for Jack, and their chemistry is palpable. The book also introduces new characters, such as the Black Company marines, who are a group of elite soldiers with their own secrets and agendas.
The book is full of twists and turns, with surprises and revelations that will keep you guessing until the end. The book also explores themes such as loyalty, betrayal, justice, and freedom, and how they affect the characters and their choices. The book also has a lot of humor and banter, which balances the tension and drama of the story. The book is a perfect blend of sci-fi, romance, and adventure, that will appeal to fans of the genre and newcomers alike.
The audiobook is narrated by Shawn Compton, who does an excellent job of bringing the story and the characters to life. He has a clear and pleasant voice, and he uses different tones and accents to distinguish the characters and their emotions. He also captures the mood and atmosphere of the scenes, and adds excitement and suspense to the narration. He makes the listening experience enjoyable and immersive, and enhances the quality of the book.
Overall, “Rescue The Princess” is a fantastic and entertaining audiobook, that will captivate you from start to finish. It is a must-read for anyone who loves sci-fi, space opera, and romance, and who wants to join Jack and Sofia on their epic journey. I highly recommend this audiobook, and I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series.
Well you would have thought it would get a little easier for Jack, but no that would be too simple. We find him fighting the navy, when at the same time Sonia is fighting her family.
Yay on excellence of the book, boo on the cliffhanger.
As an old geezer myself I gave this book only three stars because first of all an author should never leave a reader with a cliffhanger. Tomorrow is not promised to me or any author, I know that because several authors that I have read are no longer here to write and entertain us. Each title that an author writes should stand on its own because of its story merits. If the story is that good then the author does not need a hook like a cliffhanger to continue. The reader will go on to read the next book because it was engaging and entertaining. The tech tree for science Fiction book was great. The characters could use a little bit more development especially Jack. Love the artificial intelligences and I am an eagerly awaiting to see what happens. The story had plenty of twist and turns and a very intricate plot line. We don’t know what’s happening, who’s doing what, who’s going where and where the conspiracy ends. Great series, wish I could give it a five but because of the cliffhanger I can’t. I wish I could tell you to read the next book but who knows if there’s going to be a next book. And why would I tell you to read a book that ends in a cliffhanger and leave you a suspended as I am.
Here's Jack Foster's second adventure, in which he survives attack (again). The Navy is still determined to sideline him so he resigns his commission - his inventions have made him rich. But first he has to face the impact of a mid-space collision that leaves only him and the girl cadet that equalled his 1-year passing at the Academy alive on a tumbling wreck. In this position she confesses that their mutual atraction at the Academy was disapproved by her family - because she's a minor ptincess and they want her to marry their own idea of a suitable husband. Jack's knowledge of systems eventually enables them to contact help and be rescued, but what happens next? We don't know, because this story comes as what are effectively episodes of a serial and part 3 picks up where this one left off. Yes, of course I bought part 3 straight away - as I said before, this is a splendid story well worth reading.
I though the previous , premier book in the series wasn't bad. If I recall, I gave.it four stars. Why, then, does the second volume get one fewer? Perhaps it's in the initial question .
The characters seen two dimensional to me. They are the same as they were at the start - there are just more of them. The number of alien species has increased significantly. And, it seems , every situation apparently needs to be topped by the next one.of coure it ends with a cliffhanger.
The breadth of what might be possible is broad and may yet serve as the basis for future books. There's interstellar drug trafficking, sentient being trafficking, government corruption, technology run amok, dogooders, trained solders, a universal reference for coffee, and unfortunately, a degree of predictability that gets in the way.
from John Hindmarsh. Jack’s quick thinking and strong family keep him out of prison, but it seems he’s not welcome in the corrupt military he’s been fighting. And, Sophia has her own battle with her mother. She’s sent in secret to a “ retreat”, actually being tortured because she won’t cooperate with her mother’s plan to marry her off to support the monarchy. Sophia’s heart still belongs to Jack. Jack must rescue the Princess, protect himself from the cabal who want revenge, and decide his future, now the military is no longer an option. What more could possibly happen? But we’re beginning to know…trouble has a way of finding Jack, And Jack would have it no other way! Great story, interesting characters and wonderfully inventive sentients! Great story!
This reminds me of a song from the 60s, “Second verse same as the first, a little bit louder and a little bit worse!” This installment continues where the first book dropped us, alternating view points between two primary story threads. The narrative is definitely grittier and includes more death and fighting, though somehow our Jack always survives. Unfortunately book two has a hanging ending, leaving the reader with an unsatisfactory pause waiting for the yet-to-be-published book three. The general content retains the YA focus for the narrative, including a preponderance of magic science which always appears at just the right moment.
These books have been OK for those who are willing to lower their expectations.
Jack Foster, rich, brilliant, driven to achieve... and the space opera version of the "Tar Baby" (of the Uncle Remus stories... B'rer Rabbit, B'rer Bear, etc) fame. Everything he touches, or gets involved in, turns out to be "sticky," and it won't let go until he solves the problem, or creates the solution. Whether it is corruption in high places, or just the petty jealousy of others, everything contributes to the avalanche-in-motion that is Jack Foster and his "gang." This second installment of the space opera has several sub-plots (no spoilers) and, unfortunately, leaves you hanging... waiting breathlessly for the next book.
1st of all I thourghly enjoyed the book. My only major complaint is that the delivery is a bit dry. That said the author is delivering some space opera. Never ending madness and plotlines changing continually. The only thing that is consistent is that everything is inconsistent. The characters for the most part are fun and I thoroughly enjoy the use and the evolution of the AI And the problems that that will create. It seems that there will be somewhat of a technological race but that is typical and probably necessary. Underdogs can't outdo the establishment without some sort of Leg up or angle. I look forward to the next book.
Outstanding for the first 50%, then the book stops dead in the water and never recovers. Seriously, the first half of the book is action, action, action! They rescue the princess.... and then everyone stops and mills about pointlessly. The plot stops cold, no action is taken toward resolving the conflict, and literally *dozens* of extraneous elements are added in without any service towards the plot. What the hell? Any editor should have gone at the first draft with a hatchet to prevent this waste of everyone's time.
My grandfather who is 96 thought the language used was old and out of date even for him.
The story itself is interesting, however, the Hero is an entitled ass, I was not on his side, what a self-absorbed idiot if the author didn't go overboard pointing out how bad the bad guys were I would have been on their side.
The "Hero" and the bad guys pretty much all broke the same rules, but for some reason, it was ok for the hero to break the rules to suit himself, but no one else was allowed to.
Another reviewer said that the Jack Foster series is like Flash Gordon on steroids. After checking out a 1936 episode on YouTube, I have to agree. Flat, two-dimensional characters with no discernible flaws and villains with no redeeming characteristics, the Jack Foster series is cartoonish, but engaging. It grabs your attention and takes you on an enjoyable ride. John Hindmarsh is almost old enough to have seen the original Flash Gordon when it came out. In any case, if you want spend a diverting few hours, Jack Foster is worth picking up, but you might get hooked. I know that I am.
Without a doubt this story is calling out to be into a film. This second instalment fairly leaps along, keeping you the reader enthralled with all his setting do! Ably supported by his AI bots who keep everything running along nicely. Rescuing the Princess was quite easy but keeping her is another part of the story. If the next book follows on like this book then everyone is in for a right rollicking adventure. Thoroughly recommended.
Mistakes: What I found has been listed on Goodreads.
Plot: Super AIs Super tech and telepathic aliens. How is it that a spaceship that was crowdedly full receive a shot to the bridge and suddenly the ship is empty seemingly?
Characters: Welp now he is a do Gooding merc who gives all his money stolen from the bad guys to drug rehab because drugs are bad.
The author always seems to go too far, I know this isn’t meant to be a serious SciFi book, but it is generally fun and easy to read, unfortunately a lot of this was verging on unbelievable. The author took so many liberties, at times it appeared he just went with whatever came into his head, whether it fitted into what he had already written or not.
By the last chapter I was prepared to give three stars, then came the rubbish ending.
This is a wonderful story. The second book really opens up and forces Jack and friends to respond to an ever increasing slew of challenges. I could not put it down except for an occasional snack. The development of artificial intelligences as characters is especially intriguing that I've not seen elsewhere. Keep it coming, John. I can't wait for the next installment!
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one. Too many plotlines, too many left unresolved. Too much in the way of minutae trying to flesh out the new characters being introduced, and way too many new aliens thrown into the mix. In short, too convoluted, too disjointed, not enough actual "space opera". Somewhat disappointing as the author is better than this
I thought the first Jack Foster was a good read, but I think this one caps it. It keeps you locked in all the way through, with twists and turns you just don’t expect. A brilliant story line full of danger and intrigue, space travel and battle grounds. The kind of book that is hard to put down.
This series has all the elements to make it a great read. The first of course is good writing, followed by a fast paced story line. Very few editing errors which is a pet peeve of mine . I'm anxiously awaiting the January 4 release of book 3, Jack's World to continue enjoying Jack's adventures!
So this does not have the problems of the first book, but . . .
It does have one glaring issue. The lack of conviction leading to leaving a plethora of defeated enemies behind, and the unreserved amount of trust shown to any alien is unrealistic. Given the characters personality from book one, this feels purely narrative driven.
I feel that a good chunk of this book added nothing useful to the story. I'm writing this after reading the third book, and a lot of what drove the plot in book two went nowhere.
Still, it's good for what it is. To me it's a throw-back space opera reminding me of the older writing style, but the author is 83 at time of writing, so not terribly surprising. Not serious classic potential, but good for a bit of diversion.
Good book but got lost in all the ships, AI, plans for rehabs, etc. the first book had a clear plot from beginning to end. This book seems to have three plot lines all going at the same time. I ended up skimming over multiple pages so that I could get back to the main story.
Again, well written and an enjoyable sequel to the first book.
Jack Foster continues to overachieve as he works with his growing team to rescue Princess Sophie and bring her captors to justice. Unlike the first book, this one has a cliffhanger ending. Thankfully I can get the next book right now or else I’d be very frustrated!
The first book was great, this one is, too! Jack and his bots and A.I. are all in top form. Sophia proves she hasn't forgotten any of her training either. Waiting for the next installment eagerly.
A good fun read, that is family friendly. The characters are bigger than life but pretty believable. It makes me wonder if this leads to the creation of skynet. The AI are all good and friendly but that can't continue can it?
Simply put, hits exactly what is claimed right in the title. Got interested with the first and followed up with this as my next book, ignoring other things waiting on my reading list. It is winter in the far north and this retired guy reads to stay occupied
Just like book 1, this second in the series grabbed from the start and refused to let go. Action packed, the threads expertly woven to keep your attention. My only complaint is having to wait for the next book! Arrgggghhh!
Fast moving, and better, continuation of the Jack Foster saga. Story develops quickly with plenty of action and adventure. Characters develop more fully and become integral parts of the story. Thoroughly enjoyed.
