The Dragon Chronicles #2

Shifting: Lighter, sweet paranormal romance

Rate this book
Dr. Keely Bennett, a healer at Paranym University, can’t shift.

Her mate, Hugh Blackwolfe doesn’t mind—but his pack sure does. Hugh is the strongest alpha on the east coast and the pack’s single females challenge Keely, forcing her to find a shifter willing to meet and win this challenge for her, so that she and Hugh can mate.

Keely’s dragon best friend, Lindy, with her controller and mate, Alex, also struggle with shifting. They must learn the nuances of how Lindy shifts, and soon.

After several random attacks, and with an unknown enemy gunning for all of them, time may be running out. As if Keely doesn’t already feel unworthy, the dragon appears to be calling everyone but her to her team of allies.

I was so excited to be offered this book. The first two were quite good and I was eager to see where things were headed. This time, the story centered around Lindy's bond mate, Ewain and her roommate Marrissa. Both are Healers and close friends of Lindy. Their story was intertwined with Lindy and Alex's exploration of her dragon realm.

I thought things were fast paced in early books, but things really started cooking in this one. Couples started pairing off right and left, while more and more creatures came forward to answer the Dragon's call.

I stated with the first book that I had an idea about the villain in this trilogy. Yeah, I was wrong, but the truth was more fantastical than anything I could have come up with.

There was a moral, not so delicately hidden, in this story about acceptance and tolerance. But it's a message that I didn't mind getting, as it was told with some pizzazz. The ending was sweet and really brought the story to a nice conclusion.

I enjoyed this trilogy and can happily recommend it to just about anyone. There was some fighting in the final battle, but nothing too violent or graphic. Since it is a clean romance, with strong fantasy elements, it is suitable for just about any age range. I really enjoyed it and gave it 4 stars.

The author provided me with this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Shifting, the second book in the Dragon Chronicles trilogy carries on where the first book stopped. Lindy and Alex, the main couple in book one, are still present, but the focus is more on another couple, Keely and Hugh, and how pack dynamics can cause big trouble. Lindy learns more about the dragon, as does Alex, and the university is attacked once again. The evil is rising, and as a consequence, more help is arriving after hearing the dragon's call for fighters. These fighters are powerful shifters, gargoyles, healers...the evil has evil plans. Romance too, sweet and funny. This story is imaginative and well told. I've already started Book Three:Healing, and I love it.

Shifting . . .

Book 2 turns the story line to Dr. Keely Bennett and Alpha Hugh Blackwolfe. The two of them want to mate, but Keely cannot shift. With the pack getting the final say about the mating of the Alpha, they are pushing back. Can she find someone willing to fight in the challenge in her place so that she can mate her Alpha? And with the evil rising, how are they going to face the next attack?

The second book in the Dragon Chronicles series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Dr. Keely Bennett and Hugh Blackwolfe's story has drama, twists, turns, villains, and romance. I enjoyed reading. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a continuation of the story from Book One: Learning. However, this part focuses on Dr. Keely Bennett and Alpha Hugh Blackwolfe, and their mating courtship. But it's not really the personal courtship between Keely and Hugh, but more the courtship between Keely and Hugh's pack. The pack have a final say in the mating of the Alpha. And if you remember Keely's reaction from the first book, you know that there will be problems.

Lindy and Alex, are still present and the importance of the Dragon continues. She's just moving on to the next stage, where she has to learn how to shift "on command", instead of just when her emotions overwhelm her. Lindy and Alex continue to study the Dragon Chronicles, learning about their partnership, figuring out what they need to concentrate on next. Meanwhile, the dark threat steps up it's evil plans and we learn the direction that future attacks will come from.

One of the things that I think I enjoy the most about this series, is that it takes me back to an earlier period in my reading history. A time when Fantasy was all about the grand adventure, and if there was some romance, there was nothing overtly sexual about it, that was all off page. In other words, a more innocent time. But this is also very much a Paranormal Romance, telling the story of two people falling in love and learning to work together to build a life. This book combines the best of the two worlds of Fantasy and Paranormal Romance into something wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed it and gave it 4 stars.

Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

The third and final book of The Dragon Chronicles:Healing, was all I hoped it would be. Just about all characters mentioned in the first two books are in the third book, and although the focus is on the increasing evil attacking, it's also about the need for the females to bond with their mates because the evil is targeting unmarried females close to the dragon. As mentioned before, the romance is sweet, but also hot. Ewain, a doctor and healer is the dragon's birth/bond mate and Dr. Marrisa Mays are the focus in this book, but not the entire focus. Paranym University is again under attack. The dragon realm is explored further and wonderful healing discoveries are made. The question I wondered about was, how do you get rid of the evil behind all the attacks and deaths? The author came up with the answer, one that should be evident, but if thought about, quickly dismissed. It was a lovely and satisfying solution. I do recommend this series. Although modern day, it is paranormal and also satisfies the romance lovers.

Even though this is the second book of a series you can start here as the author does a great job catching the reader up to speed. Along with the sweet romance between Keely and Hugh, there is the adventure of solving the problems of the mysterious illness and Lindy and Alex trying to figure out how to be a dragon. There are a lot of POV switches, but each blend flawlessly into the main story and add to it. Someone wanting to read a sweetly romantic paranormal story would enjoy this book.
