David is a guy with nothing to lose and everything to hide. He sought solace in an isolated desert town, hoping to find an escape from his dark and troubled past, but he soon learns that there’s no escaping fate. This anomalous guy appears in his life like a lightning strike, and the enthralling mystery surrounding him challenges everything David thought he knew about the paranormal. Because this guy isn’t human. David doesn’t know what he is. All he does know is that this guy is in desperate need of an escape from a monster even more terrifying than he.
Together, they go on the run, accompanied by David’s sympathetic neighbor, Rose. Chased by flames and endless disaster, they soon realize that no matter where they go, no matter how far they run, devastation and chaos stalk their trail. As the world begins to collapse around them, Rose questions whether or not they made the right choice by helping this otherworldly creature, but David is too caught up in the chase to abandon him. Blinded by his determination to help this guy, David’s already decided he’ll go to Hell and back to save him.

I finished this book in a day and a half and could not put it down. While it has its flaws, my reaction to it warrants 5 stars. It's a phenomenal read and I immediately bought the other two books that are out. It sucks you in and makes you both sympathetic and repulsed by the main characters actions. The characters are so well developed and tve descriptions are so vivid that you can feel their feelings. It's the end of the world for these people and their true characters are shown. Carter's attention to detail and ability to show these characters so vividly makes it a must read for me.

ORIGINAL, ONE OF A KIND IDEA FROM A NEW AUTHOR
This book is something new an exciting! In this day and age where stories have been redone and remade numerous times, it’s refreshing to have something unique to read! This is a thrilling story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s quite clear that the author put a lot of thought into this story. The characters are real and relatable with complex personalities. Truly amazing. I can’t wait to read the second book!

Phenomenal book written by a very descriptive writer. After speaking with the author personally I am definitely going to be re-reading this book after reading the others. I loved the story line and the obvious dedication that went into this series. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!
