W.O.W.! I picked up the first book Newborn because I really wanted to invest some time in a good old vampire story which I really haven't done or enjoyed since Anne Rice. But this series takes everything I loved about vampires and character-driven stories and brings it all home. In the first book we got an intro to Eldon and Jonah and Jimmy but this continues their story with the emotional depth of character and really gets you invested in Jimmy (Jim) as an adult. It's probably a great stand-alone but I highly recommend reading Newborn first so you get the full picture of what's happening here. I can't wait for the next instalment. The VanCityVampires series has given me hope that vampires can be terrifying and evil again. The dark foreboding cityscape makes for an incredible setting and you feel the story building to a climatic finale. I can't wait to read more.
