Sisters Helen and Cassandra Crofton meet the somewhat pompous Lord David Beaufort on their journey from England to Philadelphia. It's instant dislike all around as he struts aboard the ship in a matching coat, waistcoat and breeches, then holds up everyone else boarding so all of his trunks can be loaded first. They spend 9 long weeks avoiding each other on the journey to the colonies.
Once the sisters are safely in the custody of their uncle and his family they're shocked to find Lord Beaufort invited to dinner at their uncle's home. Cassandra has quite a sassy tongue and takes her mocking her him a bit too far, and he chastises her "If you are a gentleman's daughter, you ought to know how to treat your betters. Clearly your cousins know how to show better respect than you do."
Shortly after the sisters arrive, there is a smallpox outbreak in Germantown. As Helen and Cassandra have already been inoculated, they go there to help. Lord David has never had the smallpox or been inoculated and chooses to do so soon. When his valet becomes ill while Lord David is suffering from the inoculation, Cassandra becomes the one to tend to him. This is when they realize each was wrong about the other.
This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed finding out the reasons Lord David was the way he was. It took him awhile and some sound advice from Cassandra's uncle Josiah to help him find his way in the colonies, which was nothing like England. I liked the changes that started taking place in him. I liked that Cassandra wanted to find a purpose and help others as she had seen her mother do. I really liked Uncle Josiah and how kind he was to take in nieces he'd never seen and help them. Each of his daughters are so different and I wonder if we'll get stories for each of them?
This is a new series and I look forward to reading some of the other stories. I received a complimentary copy to review. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own.

3.5 stars This is the first novel I have read by this author and I definitely enjoyed it and the premise of this series. The author clearly has a talent and I could see a lot of promise in the writing. While I liked the characters and I loved the interesting focus on smallpox as well as the setting taking place in the colonies in the time leading up to the Revolutionary war, I wished for a bit more interaction on the page between Cassandra and Lord David to really solidify their relationship for me as a reader. It felt like it was there, but not quite to the extent I was hoping for. I saw the characters grow in their new environments as individuals, which was very well done, but I wished for a bit more between the two. The historical details were well done and I am excited to see an author write historical fiction in an American setting during this time period, which isn’t as frequently done.
This was a quick read, I read it in a couple of hours. I love that the content is clean, no vulgarity in language or inappropriate sexual content. I recommend this to fans of historical fiction and truly look forward to reading more in the series.

The first book in the Sisters of the Revolution series a well written story by an Author I have not read before. I want to read the next book. This is Cassandra Crofton and Lord David Beaufort the youngest son of the Marquess of Dorset, the go from dislike to romance. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Quick historical fiction read
This is a cute quick novel set in colonial America. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline, but it was short with little time for character development. However, there's more depth than I expected in the story.

A good enough representation of the trepidation in venturing into the unknown... in both sisters' case to Colonial America and to little known relatives and to a future as eventful as their voyage from England in the unwelcome company of as yet another arrogant and entitled male. Upon reaching Colonial terra firma, they were informed by the swindling swine of a captain that they have to pay for their passage... though such was already done before their journey by the callous male heir who wanted to be rid of them with dispatch... and since they could not pay, they were to be auctioned off as indentured servants...

This story had a really cute premise. It was possibly a little shorter than I would have liked. I felt like the character development was a little inconsistent and under developed given the smaller length.
There were a few historical things that didn't seem to fit the time period that pulled me out of the story, but I really enjoyed that it was from multiple points of view. Getting both perspectives especially with two such strong personalities helps you see the story from the other's perspective.

I did finish this book so that says something. It was just really slow and mundane. I’m always surprised by authors who have their characters do and say the most boring things ever when they can literally have them do and say anything they could possibly imagine. For example, the first part of this book, Cassandra and David are on a ship together for like more than 6 weeks. That’s 6 weeks of very close quarters for these two characters, which creates the perfect opportunity for very interesting and unique things to happen to them, but the author chooses to have them interact like 3 times for a few minutes in that entire 6 weeks. And that’s literally all that happens on the ship. Nothing else. Which was confusing for me as a reader and lent to the slow feel of the book. Why am I reading about nothing happening? And the whole rest of the book sort of slogged along like that.
The “romance” if you can call it that, was passionless, lackluster, and developed from very very little. It’s the sort of romance where the characters have a few conversations, decide they are in love, have one chaste kiss at the very end of the story and that’s the entire relationship. I understand it’s difficult to develop a relationship in these historical times because characters aren’t allowed to be alone together for the most part and don’t get to see eachother very often. So I don’t know why I keep trying to give them a chance because I like to see things happening with the characters. I don’t know why people want to read about two characters who have to be so extremely polite all the time and never get chances to really interact meaningfully or romantically and can’t ever be alone together. I just find it unsatisfying. Cassandra and lord David do get like a week together where they get to know eachother better which was at least something, but because of the state he is in it’s still very lackluster.
The dual point of view writing made it so that I never had to wonder what either characters were feeling or thinking about anything the entire book. There was no wondering or mystery or anything like that. I knew what they were both going through at all times.

Annoyance, Friend, Forgiveness, and Love for All
This is a new author to me and it was a very sweet book. Cassandra is such a fun, witty younger sister that doesn’t let anyone get away with being uppity or demeaning of others. After being sent away by their evil cousin after the death of their father, the Crofton sisters are sent to America to live with their Uncle Josiah. On this trip, they meet the hawty Lord David who shows his vulnerabilities (fear of pity and being looking down upon) by being rude and unkind to those around him. It is so fun to see Lord David’s transformation to understanding and kindness, and Cassandra’s change of heart from enemy to friend to love.
Diana Davis truly showed her historical knowledge, and taught me a lot about inoculations during the small pox pandemics. This is a quick read, and is great for anyone that wants a sweet historical fiction that brings you through the transplantation of the English higher class into the Americas prior to the onslaught of the Revolutionary War.
My favorite part of the book was probably the fancy women thinking that they are indentured servants to their new uncle and coming down to dinner in awful maid's uniforms.

How do these people react to the.outbreak of chicken pox,who will live or die and how this effects everyone's lives! Exciting read where you are placed with these two sisters and the people who touches their lives!! The characters in this story became very much alive for me and I hope for you! Off to the 2nd book in this series, and forgot to tell you, get some tissues just in case!

However, despite being a 'gentleman's daughter', Cassandra can't help but to put him in his place. He, being a third son, was given his inheritance early to make his way in America. Being the target of one another's sarcasm, when David becomes ill from a smallpox vaccination, Cassandra is the only one who volunteers to nurse him when his valet becomes injured. This is their make-or-break-moment finally finding some commonality. Sweet and clean Regency romance, perfect for a good bedtime read.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve read a book set near the Revolutionary War, and it was fun to revisit that era. Helen and Casandra have lost their parents, and the cousin who inherited their father’s property doesn’t want anything to do with them, so he put them on a ship to the colonies to go live with their uncle. I enjoyed reading this book! Cassandra’s and Helen’s snarky comments to the pompous Lord David made me laugh. This is a sweet story, and I’m adding the rest of the series to my ever-expanding TBR list.

A short but sweet read! I enjoyed watching the characters grow and change as they got to know each other and find their "purpose" in their new home in the American colonies. I would have loved to have a bit of a longer story to see the relationship deepen more between the two main characters, but the romance was clean and sweet! 3.5 stars for this fun piece of historical fiction and I look forward to reading more of the series.

Nice quick read. Recommend for young readers.
I do love an historical romance, and I like that this was set just in the days leading up to the American Revolution. I appreciate the inclusion of real historical figures like Dr Rush in the story. This is a pleasant romance suitable for younger readers (early teens). As an adult, I would have liked more sideplot about the conflict between the colonists and the King. I found myself wanting to know more of Lord David's backstory, as I found him and Uncle Josiah the two most interesting characters in the book.

The author's writing style drew me into the story right from the beginning. The main characters had an interesting dynamic between them. This was a quick short read and I finished it in one sitting. I hated to put the book down.

A really great clean Colonial romance!
I loved this story..not only clean, but very entertaining & enjoyable! I really liked how the author slowly changed Lord David..I felt so sorry for him at times..but all ended well of course. 😄 This was so well written! Looking forward to more stories, especially Helen 's.

Enjoyable
An interesting story regarding another reason for the 13 Colonies to leave England. By preventing them from producing finish goods, the British could control the lives of the Americans. Add romance and one has a delightful read.
