Having everything, living the high life, it was only ever in the movies. Until now. Until them.
After a summer away, I return to find my mother remarried, and a whole new family around her. Now I’m enrolled in the college for East Coast’s most elite; Saints U. Along with my new stepbrother and his friends.
Only he wasn’t my stepbrother the night we first met, and it’s too late to turn back the clock.
They can make me their number one target, insult me and play their wicked games, but I’ve met worse monsters in my time.
These boys might think they can ruin me, but I’ll show them I can make their world burn.
Lily Wildhart is about to take you on a ride into the world of dark romance that isn't like anything I've read before. Buckle up, because it's about to get bumpy.
Please Note: This book is a dark, college, stepbrother, why choose romance with some aspects of bullying.
Lily is a writer, dreamer and crime documentary addict.
She loves to write dark, reverse harem romance and characters who will shatter your heart. Characters who enjoy stomping on the pieces and then laugh before putting you back together again. And she definitely doesn't enjoy readers tears. Nope. Not even a little.

One of my friends got an early copy of this book and could not stop talking about it, so it immediately went on my tbr and as soon as it was release I downloaded it. And let me just say that she was not wrong to be gushing over this book. It was absolutely incredible and such a crazy ride that I did not want to get off of. I was really tired when I started reading so I figured that I would read a few chapters and then go to bed and pick it up the next day. Little did I know that I would be completely sucked into the book from chapter one and the next thing I knew it was already at 70% and it was way past time for me to go to bed.
I love Briar so much as an FMC. She has been through some shit in her past but she refuses to let that dictate her present or her future. In fact she uses it as fuel to push past what the mean girls do to her and how Travis treats her, because she has dealt with worse and survived. Speaking of Travis…that man child made me want to dick punch him for the majority of the book but after that ending I’m having mixed emotions about him. I also fully expect Lily to make me absolutely love him before the series is over. Cole is just holy shit, say more of that to me, hot. Sawyer is most definitely the golden retriever of the guys and Asher is hands down my favorite. Any guy that is going to make me swoon through the entire book is automatically getting top spot for me.
I’m not even kidding when I say this book, especially the ending, broke my brain for a little bit. I literally sat here speechless for a good 20 minutes just staring into space going “But. But. But. But. But.” That was the only word that my brain could come out with. I mean MA’AM! You’re just going to drop those bombs on us and then go okay, we’re going to end the book there?!? I NEED more!
The TLDR of this is that I love the characters, I love the story, the spice is ON POINT and the ending nearly killed me. I’ve already preordered the next book and because this is the first book I’ve read by this author I’m now going back to read her other series. As in, I’ve already downloaded the first book in her other series and I’m starting it now.
I am so addicted to this authors writing and her characters this book was just so darn good! I literally devoured it in one sitting! This is another amazing story and a cliffhanger that has me anxiously waiting for the next book I can already tell you this is another story from this author that I’m obsessed with!
I received an electronic advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you to Lily Wildhart for the opportunity.
Let me tell you now, Why Choose fans are going to LOVE this book. Travis, Cole, Sawyer and Asher are all brilliant in their own unique ways, and there was just the perfect amount of bullying involved for this kind of book.
After her mother marries, Briar finds herself thrust into the orbit of wealth as her new father in law enrolls her in the prestigious Saints U. After an unforgettable night with three men, she finds her new life becoming a whole lot more complicated as it turns out one of those men was in fact her new step brother.
This book has left me with the BIGGEST craving to try a Peppermint Mocha, and the spice within this book was equally as mouth watering. November cannot come soon enough as I just HAVE to know what happens to Briar and co!
Talk about starting off with a bang 😏😂 Lily doesn't hold any punches with this opening and I've got to say I was SO here for it 🙌🙌
I love the guys, especially the golden retriever twins Asher and Sawyer 😏 but I do love me a strong silent type like Cole, and then throw in a broody asshole like Travis - I. Am. Sold. And don't even get me started on the puppies because it's making me pup broody 😂
Briar is lovingly relatable, her snarky and sassy inner monologue are hilarious, and damn can this girl hold her own!
I'm dying to know more about all these characters and after that ending - I need the next book yesterday!!
If you've read Lily's books before you'll know nothing is ever simple, and if you think you have things worked out - think again! We're taken on a hell of a rollercoaster and I'm so looking forward to seeing where the next book takes us!
My mental state was about to shatter 🤯, so I had to dnf at page 150, and let me tell you…THAT was a freaking struggle!
I am all for authors and understand that each one has a vision in mind for the book they want to write, but this was too much🤦🏼♀️ Bad grammar, bad writing, and horrible character writing. If the author had made more of an effort with the characters in the book, this would have been a really good one!
Briar’s character: she is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Red hair, then brown hair, then bangs, then no bangs (🤷🏼♀️)…as in, not sure when those changes even accrued in the book, they were just stated by another person. She has to remind you every 5th page how she grew up without money and doesn’t feel good using step-dad’s credit card. Every freaking page has her annoying “Briar “voice”” “Point for me, I kept my mouth shut.” “I’ve been treated worse, these people don’t know who they’re messing with.” Apparently they don’t because she never says a thing. Not. One. Time. She’s such a “badass” at sticking up for herself, that when someone dumps something all over here, she runs away so she doesn’t cry. Goooood LAWD.
This is me now, massaging my brain to gets its reading cells back 💆🏼♀️💆🏼♀️💆🏼♀️💆🏼♀️
The other characters? Not even worth mentioning because it’s the same thing with them too, so I won’t waste your time having to read about them. You’re welcome 👊🏼
Oh! And every single character winks at each other, in every page. Just a tidbit, in case you want to take count when you read the first one😉😉
I really enjoyed Burn! This is first in a new series and I have so many questions. So many...
Briar has been thrust into the elite life. She didn't ask for it, but she's trying to make the best of it. Meets most of the guys on a chance encounter and now her whole life is even more upside down than it was.
I really like all the guys, even if it's taking some of them a little longer to come around. They're doing their best to keep Briar away from trouble, but it still finds her.
I've got some theories on who is causing problems, but it's the why I'm not 100% on. There's a lot that has happened in her past and even though we don't know what exactly has happened, I can only imagine that it's someone from her past she has blocked out that is coming back to haunt her.
I cannot wait until the next one! I need some questions answered and after that twist that came out of left field and then that cliffhanger, I'm curious to see what's going to happen next.
I received and ARC copy and I’m extremely grateful for it! Its my first experience reading Lily Wildhart, so I went into this with no expectations and completely blind. I enjoyed the story and I need to read the second book ASAP, because excuse, that end????!!!!!
The thing is I felt like everything was all over the place. From bullying to nothing but golden retriever moments in just a chapter, plus the way the important deep issues were talked just superficially. Also this was super insta (i think), and I guess that’s just not for me. I see this book as an introduction to the series, so I hope it unwraps nicely.
I really liked Briar and the twins, and I can’t wait to know more about her past, their story and how the dynamics with the others develop. (I must admit that what got me most were the dogs being so present, as I’m a proud rottie mama🥰)
Burn was a fantastic why choose dark romance that has solid, endearing characters and an interesting thriller aspect that develops throughout the book.
I adore Briar and the boys and am so excited to see what happens next for them after the multiple shocks at the end of the book!
I loved that Lily included music in her book and so obviously I needed to make a playlist. This gave a further connection to the characters because it is all music I love as well.
This book is about Briar and she has been away for the summer but back to reality she finds out her mother is now married into royalty. Now she is attending a new college thanks to her step dad with her new step brother and friends. Only it wasn’t her stepbrother the night they met and they cannot turn back the clock.
This is book 1 in The Saints Of Serenity Falls series and the next book releases in November! Thanks Lily for sending me a copy. I enjoyed the plot and oh boy the spice. The twins have a special place in my heart. The step brother loved how horrible and angry he was. Cole I wish there was more of him in this book! I will say I do have a lot of unanswered questions which hopefully I’ll get the answers in the next book and I did not see the plot twist coming at the end.
I absolutely devoured this. It’s so refreshing to actually have a strong FMC who has her head on straight. Yeah, sure, she has issues… who doesn’t!? But the main thing is she isn’t fighting everything every step of the way.
Oh, and the boys. 🤭😍
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this. There is a really good amount of smut, without losing a very well-thought-out plot. I really don’t want to give anything away so, you’ll just have to read it to find out what all the fuss is about!
The only problem is, I now have to wait until November for book 2!!! 😩😩😩
I was lucky enough to received the Arc for this, so I decided to read it right away, and let . me. tell. you. WHOA! I couldn't resist, I devoured it in a day!
My face the entire time while reading
Has the two things I love: ✔️ Romance -- Kinda a lovers to enemies to lovers ✔️ SPICE (lot of the 'soms if you know what i mean 😉)
There is some trauma/ school bullying in case that triggers anyone
Was lucky enough to get this book as an ARC (my first one ever), absolutely amazing book! Burn was the perfect trope for me - step siblings, why choose, bully, college dark romance! Please check Trigger Warnings before reading!!!!
I was hooked by this book from the beginning. What I usually find with this trope is that they are slow burners with the spice but that wasn't true here. The female main character is a total badass, and all the guys are loveable for very different reasons.
Absolutely loved this book from beginning to end, can't wait for the rest of the series! Highly recommend!
I’m a sucker for a good RH book. However, I’m just a sucker for not DNFing this book.
I didn’t like Briar in the slightest. She acted like she was above everything and everyone and consistently judged rich people without knowing them.
Also, I’m getting real sick of FMC’s who never want to go out or dress up or do much of anything. I get it. Your ideal night consist of reading books and staying at home and wearing baggy T-shirts and baggy pants because you’re so different. Considering I’ve read 20 books this year I get it but my God.
And if I had to read about her wearing a black crop top one more time .. (petty, I know).
I think I reached my breaking point towards the end if im being honest. Like she continuously made dumb decision after dumb decision. How she survived that long was beyond me. It just genuinely made no sense.
*SPOILER*
If you’re receiving threatening notes, get attacked, GET ATTACKED BY YOUR TEACHER AT ONE POINT. WHY IN THE EVER LOVING HELL WOULD YOU THINK THAT RUNNING OUTSIDE IN THE MIDDLE OF A THUNDERSTORM AT NIIIIIIGHT IS A GOOD IDEA? Make it make sense.
And then that subplot that came out of nowhere? Yeah, it just seemed like the author had a billion ideas towards the end of the book and just sprinkled them in randomly because it just didn’t add up.
As for the guys in her harem? I didn’t care for them. I didn’t connect to any of them. Like I understood her relationship with the twins yeah but with Cole? The guy had like 2 lines of dialogue. Their sudden closeness was highly glossed over.
Bloody brilliant 🧡 An absolute must read for any contemporary RH lover- we have to be stepbrother romance trope in a college setting with some taboo feelings going on 😆 Briar is our FMC and she definitely has a troubled past, forced into a world of riches and expectations, that she is sooo not a part of, due to her mothers surprise marriage 🙈 Briar is a bookish girl who does not like being in the centre of it and her new position forced that and not necessarily in a good way - especially at the college 😖 One sizzling 🔥🔥 night however brings her a whole heap of cr@p she never expected… She met her d!ck of a stepbrother Travis who blows hot and, normally, cold whatever! Cole the aloof broody giant who can’t decide where his allegiances lie! Twins: Sawyer the energetic protector puppy who wears his heart on his sleeve and Archer the tattooed nerdy boy with a possessive side! 🥰🥰 There’s danger on the campus that is certainly hitting close to home for Briar than her friends and some of the boys are comfortable with 😳 and on top of that there’s shock revelations happening in the Kensington home!! There’s certainly far more going on behind the scenes and in terms of emotions here than you first realise 😬 Did I instantly preorder book 2 as soon as I finished….yes, yes I did!!
I recieved this as an ARC from the author in return for an honest review.
I'll admit, I was skeptical at first as Briar gets herself into a situation that is just downright idiotic, but this is addressed, and if I'm being honest, I know plenty of people who have done something similar, especially given it's her first time at a collage party!! However, once you get past the first couple of chapters, and get to know the characters a bit more, you will get so sucked in to what's happening (no pun intended), that you will not be able to put the book down and suddenly it's 4am and you're cursing the cliffhanger because now you have to wait for the sequel.
I absolutely loved the relationship that Briar developed with Penn, it's one of the best female friendships I've seen in a book in a while. Penn is an absolute ride or die and once she's your friend, she is loyal and will have your back no matter what! They get off to a bumpy start but in the end, I just love their relationship.
Now, the boys. Sawyer and Asher are 100% golden retriever boys at heart (especially Sawyer) but when it comes to pleasing Briar, they d0 not hold back! I love seeing an author who can write in women's pleasure and the men that love to give it. There is definately more to discover in future books with Travis and Cole, but that just gives you the time to spend with the twins, which is fun and sexy and they have puppies!
I have never read a book like this that I have enjoyed until now. I would say if you liked Zodiac Academy, this is similar but the boys are 100x better (in my opinion). I'm not much for bully romance, but this gives a bit more context and no one is physically harmed for shits and giggles.
The author also manages to wrap us up in intregue because Briar has lived a pretty shitty life with her mum, experiencing her abusive boyfriend's and having to act like an adult because the adult in this scenario just can't get her shit together. Which is an unfortunate reality for so many people, and it's nice to see Briar be able to drop her walls and enjoy being threated like a queen. There is also another plot going on in the background as there is a serial rapist/murderer on the campus and he's after Briar for something from her past which we are not made aware of, that's going to be for further books to explore I think.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, definately have a look at the trigger warnings, which the author has thoughtfully put at the start of the book. If you are someone well versed in this genre then you will probably read a totally different book to me. I have only just begun to read romances like this, especially on the spicier side and for me it was a solid read. I think this book did try to put too much story into one book and this caused some confustion for me, as most first novels tend to, but I will absolutely be picking up the sequel because now I need to know what's going to happen. And I absolutely need more time with Briar and the boys!!
Thank you so much to the author, because I would not have picked this up if I hadn't been offered the ARC and I am very happy I go the chance to read this and add another series to my ever growing book collection!
A Burn so Deep The Saints of Serenity Falls, Book 1 By: Lily Wildhart Narrated by: Cecily Foster
“A Burn so Deep” is a fantastic start to a new series penned by the wonderfully talented Lily Wildhart. I enjoy her writing style, the characters and storylines she creates are interesting and original, and they captivate my attention from start to end. After spending the summer away Briar Moore returns home to find out everything has changed, her Mom remarried and her new stepfather enrolled her into Saints U, so she goes to her new home in Serenity Falls and it is not anything like the places she has lived before, it is a house of luxury in comparison. She goes out to a party with her friend Emerson and, after too much tequila, she does something she has never done before, hooks up with three guys, Sawyer, Travis and Cole. A steamy encounter before she starts school and gets settled into her new life. When she gets home, she meets her new stepbrother, Travis Kensington, one of the three guys from the night before, and he is not happy to see her. Starting school was no fun for her either, she had to deal with bullies and attitudes from the guys and then one of her professors have it in for her. This first book lays down the foundation for the series and there are a lot of layers to the story and going on behind the scenes. Questions are raised, including what is her mother’s and stepfather’s deal, who is sending her threats, who is behind the crimes on campus and what is that professor’s problem with Briar. And then there are the boys, Sawyer, Asher, Cole and Travis, there is more than meets the eye with them too and I can not wait to find out what that is. And that ending, wow, just wow! Lilly Wildhart, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Cecily Foster is an entertaining storyteller and a versatile voice artist. She did a fabulous job covering the roles for all the characters, giving each their own distinct voice, making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. Foster has a complete understanding of the characters she was portraying and was believable in every role she plays. She sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the character’s emotions and projects them into her performance, making you feel every single one. Thank you for another fantastic listen.
I was lucky to be offered the opportunity to receive an ARC copy of this from the author.
Burn is book 1 in the Saints of Serenity Falls series and is the first book by Lily Wildhart I have read, however it definitely won't be my last.
Briar has been spending the summer with her dad on the West Coast.
When she lands back home, she receives a text from her mom to let her know she has remarried and is on honeymoon. She now has a new home, has been enrolled in Saints U college, rather than the community college she was meant to attend with her friend, Emerson.
To top it off, she also has a new step-brother, who she hasn't met yet.
To try and forget things for a while Briar attends a last weekend before college party with Emerson. There she meets Travis, who is the singer of the band at the party and his two friends Sawyer & Cole.
Lets say tequila and a game of truth or dare, lead to an interesting night for Briar.
Upon returning to her new home she finds out that Travis is her new step-brother and now wants nothing to do with her.
At this point, we are introduced to Asher (my favourite), Sawyers twin brother and their rottweiler puppies. Who doesn't love puppy cuddles and puppy piles.
This is classed as a bully romance, but it's not as bad as scenes I have read in other books. It is mostly mean girl pranks and hateful comments from Travis and the mean girls.
Something has happened in Briar's past to do with a sister, Iris. As yet, not sure if this is linked to a couple of things that happen to Briar in Burn. I hope we get the answers in book 2, Rebel which is out on 04/11/22.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Burn is book #1 in The Saints of Serenity Falls series. This is a dark, bully, stepbrother, why choose romance. Make sure to check the trigger warning.
I want a twin sandwich with Asher and Sawyer so bad 😂😂😂😂
Briar has been away for the summer and comes home to her mother being remarried, she is starting at a new school full of rich kids, and she isn't happy about it at all. Plus, her new stepbrother is a guy she hooked up with at a party, with his friends and he isn't happy to have her around.
This series is gonna be EPIC, i already know!! I love Briar and her sassiness, I love Sawyer, im pretty sure he is my favorite guy right now, Asher has a geek vibe but has a bossy side 😉, Travis is Broody and moody, and Cole has that silent-but-will-f**k-you-stupid thing going on and I am here for it!! And that cliffhanger!?!?!?!?! Ahhhhhhhh!!!! I need more so bad!!!!!!!!
Burn is incredible, with some mystery, amazingly hot spice and a story that will leave you dying to have the answers to your questions as soon as possible 😂
I loved this book so much, you have to read it!!!!
A Burn So Deep by Lily Wildhart is a dark college stepbrother why choose romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Cecily Foster. This is the first book in The Saints of Serenity Falls series.
This is the third book of Lily's that I have read, and it definitely won't be my last. I was pulled in from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. The chemistry between Briar, Sawyer, Asher, Cole, and Travis is off the charts. I love the push and pull between them all and can't wait to see how it will progress over the series.
The book ended on an amazing cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series A Revenge So Sweet.
Cecily did an amazing job on the narration. She really knows how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, college romances, stepbrother romances, or why choose romances.
What a masterpiece! If anyone thought Lily Wildhart’s brilliance was an one-off after the popularity of her debut series, the first book in her second series will put those thoughts to rest!
Burn is hot, hot, hot! The spice starts pretty early in the book (no slow burn here) between Briar, Sawyer, Travis, and Cole. However, the following morning, Travis and Briar realize they made a big mistake! As they both attend Saint’s U., Travis does things to try to get Briar to leave, but she perseveres. Sawyer and his twin, Asher, quickly get tired of Travis’s stunts and decide they are all-in with Briar, even if Cole and Travis are not. As bizarre attacks keep occurring on campus, Briar all but moves in to the boys’ house. Will The iciness coming from Cole and Travis thaw? Are there other things going on that Briar is not aware of?
The book does end on a cliffhanger, but our wait for the second book won’t be too long. However, you don’t want to wait! Read Burn now so you’re ready when book two comes out!
@lilywildhart has a new RH series out tomorrow and I have to admit, I am hooked!! Welcome to Saints U, where the wealth is obscene, the drama is aplenty, and secrets feed in the dark.
We meet Briar, fresh off a plane from spending the summer with her dad, only to find her mom has remarried, moving them from their drab two bedroom apartment in NYC to utter luxury in Serenity Falls.
Oh and this marriage comes with a step-brother she may have met before … and his three friends. Travis, Cole, Sawyer, and Asher - I loved how different they all are and how it wasn’t all insta love and wasn’t all bully either. The balance really propelled the story and I can’t wait to see how the relationships build.
That isn’t to say there is no steam … ooooo there are plenty of smokin hot moments! But there’s sure to be even more in our future as the harem builds. In the meantime, we’ve got secrets, mysterious pasts, deaths, and a creepy stalker on the lose! You can bet I’ll be counting down to book two with that ending!
This book was hot as hell! Briar is the first main character in a long time that I’ve been able to relate to properly (minus four potential love interests because I currently have none 😅). This was so well written and I loved getting to know Briar even though a huge part of her life still remains a mystery. Lily may have just become one of my favourite authors after only one book. Fan of Sam and Dean Winchester?! Names animals after Maverick and Goose (this hit me right in the feels)?! Also, Shadow is the best fictional puppy!!!!! The FMC loves spooky season and coffee along with having 3 hot guys and 1 hot mess of an asshole step brother? What’s not to love?
*Spoilers* I received this as an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion and I can honestly say that I absolutely loved it! I was hooked after the first couple of chapters and could not put it down. I loved everything, from the tension between Briar and the boys, and to the mystery of Briar’s life before moving into the McMansion.
I just want to give a moment of appreciation for our curvy girl Briar. There were a handful of moments where I found her very relatable and it was refreshing to read something where the main character is curvy and stays curvy!
Hands down this book was a great start to the series and I can’t get enough of the boys, Asher I am coming for you and your puppies. Also the cliffhanger…I have so many questions that need answering and don’t know how I am supposed to hold on till November
*I received an arc of this book for my honest review*
Lily brings us the first book in her new dark bully/stepbrother contemporary series, and once again she did not disappoint! In this series we meet Briar, who comes back home from summer vacation to find her life completely changed. We also get to meet our leading men in a super steamy beginning scene! 🥵
I loved the mystery that was thrown in the mix of everything else that is going on. And that ending left me yelling at my kindle! Can't wait to see what comes next!
I was hooked right from the start of this book and now I’m counting down for book 2. If you enjoy books with spice, some bullying, and some mystery then you have to start reading this book right away.
I really enjoyed Briar. She’s had a difficult past and had to grow up way too fast so she appreciates everything and refuses to let her new rich school change her. I know we only got snapshots and hints about her past so I’m dying to know more. I love Cole, Sawyer, Asher, and Travis! I wanted to hate Travis but I know there’s so much more to him and he kept giving little glimpses that made me fall for him. I have to say Asher is probably my favorite right now but who wouldn’t love a tattooed, slightly nerdy guy! Twins, stepbrother, musicians, athletes? These guys have it all which is good because Briar needs them with a mom like hers.
That ending was awful! I knew something was going to happen as I got closer to the end but I didn’t see that ending coming. I really need to next book to get some of my questions answered and to see what happens with Briar and these guys.
Wow!!! I devoured this book in one sitting. That ending had me needing more. I need the next book now. Briar and the guys have melted my heart. These characters have me addicted to their world.
I'm claiming Asher btw, he's mine! I will fight for him, idc. Lol. Him, Sawyer, Cole and Travis are a reader's ideal book bf. Ofc Travis has been a total jerk but he has that (I can totally save him quality).
Their parents are crazy, whatever's happening is confusing and I need answers right now. I can't wait to read book two.
This was definitely a solid 4.5 stars! I am loving this new series so far! This book left me wanting more!! And let me tell you, if you love a good RH/Why Choose book, you will dig this! The four guys are on fire! And you start of in a fantastic way in chapter 2!! Just know that there is a big cliffhanger at the end and you will have lots of questions! But this is only book one, so I will preach patience! 🤣 (Of which I have none!! 🤷♀️) If you like a good college, angsty, romance filled with steam, pick this book up!!
Oh my Lily, you wrote another great book!!! I devoured it in one sitting, I just couldn’t get enough. Briar is such a strong, stubborn girl. I admire that she goes for what she wants. And the boys, oh I love how she gives them a piece of her mind and doesn’t let them walk all over her. Travis, the man is frustrating and I get why, but uh! Cole, you’ll slowly work up to him. Sawyer and Asher, I love the twins, they are the sweetest of her guys. And I love her friends, The suspense, mystery keeps you hooked and the steamy scenes, wow! And that ending, oh my goodness, I can’t wait for more!
