The Inn at Holiday Bay #18

Lantern in the Lighthouse

Rate this book
A heartwarming cozy mystery series about losing everything, taking a chance, and starting again.

After suffering a personal tragedy Abby Sullivan buys a huge old seaside mansion she has never even seen, packs up her life in San Francisco, and moves to Holiday Bay Maine, where she is adopted, quite against her will, by a huge Maine Coon Cat named Rufus, a drifter with her own tragic past named Georgia, and a giant dog with an inferiority complex named Ramos. What Abby thought she needed was alone time to heal. What she ended up with was, an inn she never knew she wanted, a cat she couldn't seem to convince to leave, and a new family she'd never be able to live without.

In book 18 in the series, while on a date with Abby, Colt receives a call to check out a light inside an old abandoned lighthouse closed for renovations. The pair respond to the call only to find evidence of two trespassers, one of which is now dead.

Meanwhile, Abby is swamped at the inn helping Georgia and Jeremy when the cast of a reality show check in. "Real Detectives" might just be a 'small time' competition hosted by the same local cable television station that airs Georgia's cooking show, but the quarter million dollars in prize money represents a 'big time' payday causing the eight competitors who made it to the finals to take things quite seriously.

Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.
Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

This may be the 18th book in the series but it hasn't lost any momentum yet. I enjoy spending time with all of the characters and the description of Holiday Bay makes me want to visit - in the spring, summer or fall only. I don't watch "reality" shows because I know that most of them are scripted and far from "real" so I wasn't surprised by the antics that ensued with this cast of visitors staying at the inn. A well paced mystery with plenty of twists and a surprising reveal kept me reading all afternoon.

Lantern in the Lighthouse is book 18 in The Inn at Holiday Bay by Kathi Daley. Abby Sullivan thought moving to Holiday Bay, Maine, would have a quiet life to heal. However, she was wrong. After finding the trespassers at the Lighthouse on a date with Colt and the goings on with the cast of the reality show staying at her Inn, her life was far from quiet. Are the incidents at the Lighthouse and the Inn connected? The readers of Lantern in the Lighthouse will continue following Colt and Abby to discover what happens.

Lantern in the Lighthouse is a lovely cozy mystery and enjoyable book to read on a cold, wet winter day. I engaged with the plot and characters from the first page and continued right to the end of the book. The way Kathi Daley incorporates the humans and the animals is excellently done. I love Kathi Daley's portrayal of the characters of Lantern in the Lighthouse and their interaction with each other throughout the book. Lantern in the Lighthouse is well-written and researched by Kathi Daley. I like Kathi Daley's description of the settings of Lantern in the Lighthouse, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.

The readers of Lantern in the Lighthouse will learn about the importance of love and friendship in healing from tragedy. Also, the readers of Lantern in the Lighthouse will understand the importance of not keeping secrets.

I recommend this book.

I love this book! This is the 18th in the series and the series just keeps on being wonderful!

Abby and Georgia have their hands full enough at the inn with a film crew and actors all staying there filming a reality show, but when Abby and Colt find a body, things get even more complicated.

Lantern in the Lighthouse is a fun book with a lot of very interesting information about reality shows thrown into the mix.

A bit of romance, loads of mystery and a crazy wild bunch of guests at the inn make for a super fun read. I highly recommend it.

I do like this series, but this book was a real downer. The reality show contestants, and even the main characters in the book seemed discontented with life. Hopefully the next one will pick up.

Staged

The Inn has been booked by a group participating in a reality show. Much to the crews disbelief they learn how much of the show is staged to get the results the show wants. What wasn't staged was the murder of the director, but Abby and Colt are up to the task of solving the murder.

Lantern in the Lighthouse is the eighteenth book in Kathi Daley’s heartwarming Inn at Holiday Bay series. The well-plotted storyline flows smoothly, and multiple twists and red herrings in the complex mystery keep the reader engaged. The setting is charming, and the well-developed characters are three-dimensional, compassionate, and caring. Every time I pick up one of Ms. Daley’s books, I know I’m in for a treat, and I’ve never been disappointed. I highly recommend this series to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries.

After Abby Sullivan lost her husband and their infant son in a tragic accident, she moved to Holiday Bay, Maine, opened the Inn at Holiday Bay, made a new life for herself, and found a home and a family. Georgia Carter, who has also overcome obstacles in her life, is the inn’s talented cook/baker and manager, and she and her Newfoundland dog, Ramos, live with Abby, Rufus, a Maine Coon, and Molly, a terrier mix, in a cottage on the property. Georgia’s cable cooking show, “Cooking with Georgia,” is doing well. Jeremy Slater, who lives in the inn’s basement apartment with his young niece, Annabelle, is a valuable asset who helps with the inn’s day-to-day operations.

The cast, crew, and director of “The Real Detectives,” a reality program being filmed in Holiday Bat by the producers of “Cooking with Georgia,” booked the entire inn, and Abby, Georgia, Jeremy, and their part-time employee, Nikki Peyton, have their hands full. When Abby and Colt Wilder, her boyfriend and police chief, discover a body in a lighthouse currently closed for renovation, they identify a plethora of suspects with viable motives. Meanwhile, Abby and Georgia work with Lacy and Lonnie to choose the materials and color schemes for the four cottages that will be added to the property in the spring.

Kathie Daley does it again!

I am now caught up with this series so far. It is my first-time reading Kathie Daley. When you read her you will find genuine characters, smooth plots, great description of settings. She makes characters into friends in that you care about what happens to them . Aware that humans come by oral traditions as a way to communicate news, I am appreciative of her skill . Another thing that oral traditions did was impart wisdom and Kathie does not disappoint with keen insight into the human condition and further while it is concentrated in Abbey''s insights, wisdom also comes from supporting characters in the The Inn at Holiday Bay family. Which brings me to the fact that she has Georgia revealing that taking an interest in temporary residents is good business as well as for her a pool of characters to add new players into both plots and family deepening the caring factor of characters. All of which reflects on life which we can relate to. This adds to the character caring and suspenseful p!it's that take refreshing twists and turns. To have done this during a reality show renting the Inn show off her master level skills. Character plot development is moved along nicely from book to book also, and I'd like to thank Kathie for keeping a relationship going that could have been disrupted big time in this book, that is all I will say as there is still several hooks keeping us waiting for the next book hard enough to preorder it. Skillfully writer is Kathie Daley, and she does not disappoint. She reminds me of a cozy Nora Roberts. Worth reading or listening to. Delightful.

I really enjoy reading any books written by Kathi Daley, and this was no exception. In fact, this was the first series I read of hers and I've made my way through at least 4 other series, including 2 which involve characters introduced in this book.

In Holiday Bay, Maine, the Inn at Holiday Bay is returning to normal after the festive season. Abby, the owner of the Inn, and Georgia the Manager and chef, are planning the year and the building of some holiday cottages in the grounds. The Inn has a block booking by a TV show, The Real Detectives. It's a reality series with a prize of 250,000 dollars in the final, and it's this week when the final is being filmed.

When a member of the TV company is found murdered in the lighthouse, Abby and Colt, her boyfriend and local Sheriff, look into it.

The town is appointing a new mayor after the last one passed away (see previous book), and one of Colt's exes has applied and is in town, jealous Abby rears her head, is she justified is thinking this way?

Georgia starts to get some strange emails, linked to the cooking show she fronts for the same TV company who are making the reality series being filmed at the Inn, and they're starting the make Georgia uneasy.

I really enjoy reading books in this series and am looking forward to the next one being released. The books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.

There is a very interesting topic in this edition of the Inn at Holiday Bay series.

It's not vacation or holiday time so when the producer of Georgia's cooking show asked if he can use the inn for his Amazing Race type show, Abby and Grace are all for it. But let me tell you, the Whistler Galaway is no Phil. Phil would never purposely spill hidden secrets of his contestants just to get publicity.

When a dead body is found in the lighthouse, everybody is a suspect. Even Sheriff Colt's ex-girlfriend who is in town to interview for a job. As Abby and Colt work their way through the clues to solve the crime, the author brings the reader along with them step-by-step, clue-by-clue.

Friendly townspeople, visitors, and Inn regulars make this series a great read. Mysteries with a lot of clues that point the main character in the direction of the solution are the best because the reader gets to solve right along with the amateur detective are so fun to read. And best of all I like a cozy where the sheriff/detective is not a bumbling curmudgeon that is not afraid to take advantage of clues someone else finds.

Abby Sullivan has settled into Holiday Bay and enjoys running her inn with Georgia and Jeremy. Staying at the inn this week is the cast of a show called Real Detectives, a reality show with a large cash prize. But there seems to be more drama than detection going on. While Abby and Colt are on a date, he gets a call about lights being on in the old lighthouse that is closed for renovations. When they get there to investigate, they find a man's body.

I've really enjoyed this series and this book is no exception. Kathi Daley is a wonderful author who has some excellent series and this is one of my favorites. The book was well-written with well-rounded characters and a well-thought-out plot. The mystery will keep you on your toes and guessing throughout. The engaging story pulled me in and kept me hooked from beginning to end as I read it in one sitting. I'm looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend both book and series which I believe is best read in order.

I have enjoyed every book in this series - which is amazing. I love reading about the characters that appear in every book and the new ones with each group of visitors to the Inn.

Amazon synopsis:
In book 18 in the series, while on a date with Abby, Colt receives a call to check out a light inside an old abandoned lighthouse closed for renovations. The pair respond to the call only to find evidence of two trespassers, one of which is now dead.

Meanwhile, Abby is swamped at the inn helping Georgia and Jeremy when the cast of a reality show check in. This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series. I can't wait to return and meet new characters and situations in each book. I also enjoy watching the relationships between characters grow and friendships develop.

The Inn is booked with the cast of a Reality Detective show. Could it also be housing a murderer?
Suspicious lights in a long closed lighthouse create curiosity and break into Abby's romantic time with Colt.
Georgia and Abby and friends spend time waiting for spring designing the new rental cottages for the property.

Good mystery, interesting activities around town, plenty of motives

I honestly don’t know how these books rate so high. The writing is not great. The same thing is said three times, does the author think we’re too stupid to have gotten it the first time or maybe just trying to hit a page count, either way, it’s annoying. I expect that after 18 books the writing gets better but that’s not the case. This book wrapped up nicely with no cliff hangers so I think it’s my time to say goodbye to Abby and the gang at the Inn.
Also there was no lantern in the lighthouse. There was a dead body and a light. If you like reality tv, which I don’t, you might like this story.

Once again, Abby has an inn full of visitors, this time doing a reality television show. Things get heated as secrets are revealed all in the name of drama, but when the director turns up dead, fingers are pointing in too many directions. Was it one of the show contestants? An old girlfriend of Colt's whose fingerprints turned up at the scene? Or someone from a disastrous previous show the director was involved in? Time is getting short, and Abby still has to get her pages typed for her next book, while running the inn, making plans to add 4 new cottages to her inn, and helping Colt solve the mystery before the peace and quiet of her inn is destroyed.

A great 18 book series

The list says that there are 19 books, but the last or won't be out until another month or so. The characters are great, and I feel like I'm part of the family in the story. The lead lady bought an older house that needed lots of work. She is also a well known author. She has money coming in from the sales of her books. She makes a friend right away, and then another lady with her dog. Boy work hard and have a good time with the folks t stay at the B &B. Happy Reading !!!

The lantern goes out

After there a murder in the lighthouse, our protagonist and her crew are back working on solving another mystery. This tim, a murder mystery program has come to the Inn to film a show and the show’s director becomes the victim of a real crime. As usual they’re are multiple suspects including many of the contestants and of the crew. The same it moves along at Ms Daley’s normal pace and the staff of the Inn contribute to the action. Not a bad little tale and a reasonable little mystery.

Reality Show Drama

I have read all the books in this to this point. I really enjoy the stories and the continuation of the characters and the way the books flow into each other. But I’m not a huge fan of the alliteration. When all the couples name’s being with the same letter I’m not sure if it’s funny or annoying. Lion and Leapfrog Leaper are in one suite. Tiger and Terror Toothpaste in another and on and on gets to be too much! But in spite of the names, I still enjoy the books and recommend all I’ve read so far!

Great book

This was a good book in the Holiday Inn series but didn't quite meet the 5 star ratings I have given the rest of her books. The main characters in the series were good but the concept of the other part of the story left some very unfinished feelings at the end. There was also a gap that wrapped up the book but still left me with a "missing" something. Maybe the next book, hinted to in this book I believe, will tie things together.

Wonderful Read

I loved how the story is linked to current day reality shows making it more relatable to individuals hooked on these shows today. The secrets uncovered offer more background information on each character. I liked how the story was written as a story within a story. While there were multiple veins throughout the story, the author does an excellent job combining the multiple elements together creating a well-written and engaging story

Reality show murder

A group from a reality show comes to the Inn to film their final week. But reality show is really more about the drama and heartache it can cause by digging up secrets. When the guy in charge ends up dead, there are a lot of people from the shows who have a reason to want him dead. Colt has a lot of suspects to pick from. And Abby and Georgia get an even lower opinion of this type of show, as did I.

lantern in the lighthouse

So we have a detective reality show staying at the inn. Interesting. And of course what would that be without a murder? But the person running the show?? Oops. Abby gets to help Colt try to find the murderer of this tv person. Was it one of the contestants, an friend or family member of an old contestant that died? Or was it Colts old girlfriend? Oops again!! Another wonderful mystery by Kathi Daley.

Too much room at the Inn! The reality show demonstrates that what you see isn't always reality!

The book is a great read, it shows that what you see on television is often a distorted vision of the truth. Everyone has secrets some even they do not know. Those secrets have the potential to destroy lives and should not be uncovered just for ratings. Some people set their moral standards too low and pay for their deeds with their lives!.

Latern in the Lighthouse is the 18th book in The Inn at Holiday Bay by Kahti Daley in which the guests of the inn our the contestants of the reality show The Real Detectives. Tge director, Whistler Galway is doing a great job of causing drama for the audience but when he ends up dead is when the real drama starts! Who wanted Whistler dead? Could it be a contestants or someone else? A another great book from Kathi Daley!

A good read as always!

As always the plot flows easily and the characters are realistic and endearing. I love being sucked into their reality. I really enjoy Kathi Daley's writing style. It appeals to me as a lover of murder mysteries and romance. Her descriptive style of the locations and characters are bigger than life! I always wait with bated breath for the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy romance or mysteries!

reality TV shows

Are not what they seem. Abby regrets she and Georgia let a local reality show stay, and occasionally, film, at the Inn (and of course, around Holiday bay). But when the director ends up as a dead body in an unused lighthouse, with a bullet hole) the drama heightens. A love interest from Colt’s past appears. Abby moves on with her book. No history mystery. No new relationships unfold. But spring arrives and construction in the cottages begins

I've never had a Daley book I didn't love.

Abby and Georgia are wonderful Inn owners. Georgia is a people person who has the ability to learn about the people who book stays at the Inn. Mrs. Daley creates characters that feel like friends and situations that gives the reader a great mystery to puzzle out. Such a wonderful God-given talent.

This is one of my favorite cozy series written by my favorite cozy mystery author. It amazes me how attached I’ve become to these characters and how much I look forward to each new release. Lantern In The Lighthouse deals with the ugly side of reality TV — a unique cozy subject. I recommend you start with Book 1 and read all 18. You won’t be disappointed.

This story had some very interesting twists and turns, yet felt very formulated. Too many cutsie names, and very repetitive at times. The part that bothered me the most is that too many details of the investigation that are learned from Colt are shared with friends. I am very interested to learn more about Georgia’s emails.
