We all love a scary story, especially when we can tell ourselves the events in question are fictional. But what about when the fictional crosses into real life? What happens when the tales being shared are living, inescapable nightmares for those experiencing them? In Taylor Mill, Kentucky sits a property rife with paranormal activity, and its oppressive energy is all too real. The family living in the home has undergone a bombardment of constant, unexplained activities. Screaming, disembodied voices, objects being thrown, and apparitions were only the tip of the iceberg for Sam, his wife Jody, and their daughter Charlie. Their mental health suffered, and the events stirred up unimaginable fear and trauma.
With the help of a priest and two paranormal investigators, Sam and his family began a battle with the unseen forces attempting to drive them from their home. They discovered the house was infested with a demonic presence. The events and dark energies were altering the emotions of the residents to the point they questioned their own sanity. When the team uncovers strange connections, Sam must ask what brought him to this home in the first place. Could a force beyond comprehension have been at work in drawing the family to that specific property? Discover the true events revealed through interviews and eyewitness accounts for the first time in the pages of Taylor Mill Horror. Written by the team who spent two weeks amidst the horrors and the man who lived it all firsthand, this is an account like no other. Taylor Mill Horror will immerse readers in a story they will never forget, made even more chilling for its status as non-fiction.
I lived a stone’s throw from this house for over 30 years and had absolutely no clue of these happenings! 🤯😲 Reading Taylor Mill Horror was extra chilling for me, gave me goosebumps, and even a few nervous laughs. Creepy and impossible to put down! I’ll never look at Taylor Mill the same way again!
(I don’t believe I gave any spoilers, but it is possible some may think there is one. So I will mark that but at the end with a *** disclaimer)
This is quite a terrifying account of a truly horrific ordeal suffered by a other wise happy family of three in the dream house the husband was drawn too. Supposedly an accurate depiction of a true story and actual events/phenomena. If even half of these events took place as described it would be the most terrifying and awful horror experiences one could I ever imagine a loving young family could be subjected to, in there own home of all places, the place that should shelter and protect them. And the tormenting of such a sweet dog is hard to read as well, if your a dog lover like myself. While the scary moments are frightening and it is often easy to forget they are supposed real occurrences too real people. The are a handful of minor details that don’t add up and of one were to think about these errors in the story telling you find yourself questioning the accuracy of the retelling. For example: the narrator states he married his wife and then adopted her daughter from a previous relationship. The girl is described as being around 8 years old, and is depicted as being quite young as you would imagine a little girl being, getting excited for dinosaur macaroni, playing with dolls all over the floor and being an adorable child. At the same time or what seams like days or at most weeks later, the paranormal investigators arrive after the worst has happened to the family of 3, they ask the narrator, Sam, “how long has he and his wife been together?” And Sam responds with something to the effect of “I can’t keep track of dates, but about 10 or 15 years”… Okay, well, how does a little child, whom is about 4-5 years of age already when Sam adopts her after marrying her mom, remain a young child around 8 years old if ten or even fifteen years have passed since he married his wife and adopted her young daughter, as she is depicted through the end of this story? (I told you these are small details but they do add up to paint big holes is story telling, is the age lowered for story effect (a cute innocent little child is a more emotionally tugging addition to the plot that a teenager? Maybe?) but it feels like it for sure is lazy story telling. It’s aso unnecessary as the question of how long have couple been together has no real impact on the story and if it wasn’t included, nothing would be impacted.
*** ( following may have a very light spoiler, in the eyes of some readers) However if 10 or 15 years do pass than this book does an terrible job making that feel time having authentically passed. The time frame of the whole story feels like it unfolds over the course of no more than a week or two (3 is being generous) and that actually works very well, but if Sam slept in that house with his wife and went to work more than a few times in a weeks, that does not come through, it flows as a series of consecutive nightly/daily events, still being a new home owner whom has not met the neighbors until after the point things are so bad his wife and daughter have gone somewhere safe while the evil is investigated?
Definitely creepy and would like to know more about the true story/haunting. I will say there were several typos which kept catching my eye but it was a quick and creepy read. Would have rated higher if not for the typos there were just so many.
Sam, his wife Jody, and daughter Charlie move to a small town in Kentucky for a fresh start. Sam is inexplicably drawn to a particular house, and when the owner catches him gazing at it, she sells it to him for a knock-down price. She was delighted to find someone willing to buy it. Unfortunately, it turns out to be a terrible purchase for Sam and his family, as they find out more or less as soon as they move in. With help from a priest and some paranormal investigators, including the author, it takes all of Sam’s mental and physical strength to face the evil that possesses his family’s new home.
Taylor Mill Horror by Austin Lawrence is a classic horror tale in the style of the infamous The Amityville Horror. Like that renowned book, Taylor Mill Horror is full of frightening supernatural activity that terrorizes the family living there. Also, like the original, this story purports to be true. At the end of the book, a few poorly rendered black and white photos are presumably intended to prove the veracity of the claim.
The chilling story’s structure is well-planned and delivered at a reasonably good pace. At times, the author uses a conversational style, allowing the reader to feel as if they are there with the family and author experiencing the paranormal activities. While I found this book to be thrilling, I felt it could benefit from another edit to catch a few typos that felt distracting. Those minor criticisms aside, horror fans will love this book. It’s terrifying.
Taylor Mill Horror is an engaging and sensational read. The author presents their facts and the stories they personally experienced, along with the stories of Sam and his family, to make this nonfiction work unforgettable. Fans of horror, true stories, paranormal activity, and true-life thrillers will be on the edge of their seats throughout this horrifying book.
Taylor Mill Horror: A True Story by Austin Lawrence: There’s a house in Kentucky that’s haunted. When Sam first sees it he knows he wants it for himself and his family: wife Jody and daughter Charlie. As it often happens in houses like this, he feels an unexplainable pull to it. Sam couldn’t know the horrible experiences he would go through living there. He gets help in this journey from Father Shafer and two paranormal investigators; but they soon learn the unseen forces are truly evil, leading them to question if the actual devil is the one behind these disturbances, as the voices claim. Sam is an atheist but after witnessing the undeniable demonic infestation in his home, his beliefs are truly challenged. This was scarier than I thought it’d be! I didn’t want to stop reading, but had to put it down at night because I got so scared 🫣 it’s an incredible story, and I feel sorry for Sam and his family that they had to go trough something so awful, but also admiration. The book is full of grammar and spelling mistakes and that made it a bit annoying but the story’s great.
This was just okay for me. About halfway through I wanted to stop but was just curious enough to keep going. This was available through Kindle Unlimited but could only be read with the Kindle app on another device other than an actual Kindle. I was upset by this because I was not able to adjust the font size which made it difficult to read.
For thrillers of shows like A Haunting or Paranormal Investigation this is a book you will enjoy. You won’t be able to put this creepy read down and you will want to research more about the history of this house after you finish.
The book had a pretty good flow. I chose the rating I did because there were many typos throughout the book. That a never fun too find. There were around a dozen typos. I did like the story.
I love scary reads. And this one is supposed to be true. I enjoyed reading this story. Book could have been written a little better. Spelling errors made it a little hard to read at times. Could have had more details.
Besides quite a few proofreading errors, and the books layout being incompatible with my Kindle, this wasn’t too bad of a book. If the tale truly was TRUE, it’s rather creepy. I would’ve liked more of an ending than what was given, but again, all in all not too bad of a book!
Very good book I could not put it down! I refused to look at the pictures though... at less l least not at home and not at night lol I'll look at them when I go to work or something haha ya the book was THAT SCARY!
All the while reading this factual account, I sympathized with the homeowner. Buying a house plagued with demons and ghosts definitely warrants a book. Enjoyed this suspenseful book.
Let me start by saying this book is chock full of typos and spelling and grammatical errors. Putting that aside, it's also riveting from the get go. I felt scared as I was reading these horrific accounts -- wondering if everything really actually happened. If so, it's even more terrifying.
I would give 5 stars but the layout that couldn’t be adjusted an typos I can’t. The story was scary and sad his dog was killed. I couldn’t imagine going through something like this.

3.5 stars The writing wasn’t amazing, but it was a super creepy story. The fact it supposedly all happened less than 10 minutes from where I live made it all the more intriguing.
I loved the build of the suspense and the pacing over all. There were some typos but nothing to rip you out of the immersion. I would recommend this if you like a good paranormal thriller!
