In this gripping whistleblower account of FBI corruption and malfeasance, Greg Dillon—veteran state investigator and former FBI agent—finds himself caught up in an FBI misconduct scandal resulting in coverups, retaliation, a federal trial, and a landmark court ruling.
When Greg Dillon is assigned to a federal fugitive task force in Connecticut, he inadvertently uncovers a pattern of misconduct and falsified affidavits. After reporting his concerns to the politically connected but incompetent chief state’s attorney, the whistleblower finds himself a target of reprisal. Investigated, transferred, demoted, and threatened, Dillon hires an attorney, and—with the assistance of legendary whistleblower Frank Serpico—takes on both the state of Connecticut and the Department of Justice in federal court, resulting in an explosive verdict and a significant court ruling.

Not too hard to believe this man’s experience with the FBI and I’m sure it’s only the tippy top of the iceberg. With all the info coming out now about the FBI and the fact that all agencies are corrupted and weaponized it’s pretty on par with what these folks put this man through for daring to point out their illegal tactics. It’s truly disgusting. I wouldn’t trust a single word of any federal or state government agency at this point. It’s all lies upon more lies. Heaven forbid you are in their crosshairs!
If I could do 6 stars, I would! A true gripping story about living your moral code when confronted with the obstacles that challenge it. What follows is a media event in a search for truth, and an appearance by the world famous Serpico to stand by the side of a fellow truth-seeker. Dillon writes with passion, humor, and an insight into a legal system that keeps itself in the news with similar events that continue to happen today.
I really enjoyed this book. In fact, Greg is a local guy for me and he is speaking at our book club soon. I enjoyed this book the way he describes his police work. I found it really fascinating how he and his team solved crimes and tracked down these fugitives. I did not like, however, how they treated him after he spoke up and all the retribution he faced by the powers that controlled the State's Attorney's office. This is so disheartening, I am repulsed by the way some workers are treated, and then when they speak up, they are punished. It happens time and time again and it is wrong. I applaud him for everything he tried to do.
Well written, narrated and worth the read! Author did a great job conveying his experiences and emotions without being emotional or self-aggrandizing. Rarely do i find a book that compels me to give 5 stars but this one was special.
This is a story that needed to be told. Dillon is a pitbull, latching on until the truth is exposed. This is a riveting tale, where no honest deed goes unpunished.
This book is a fascinating and cautionary tale of what can happen when institutions, in this case the FBI, play fast and loose with the rules, then when called out on the lie(s), retaliate against the Whistleblower.
That former FBI agent and Inspector of Connecticut’s Chief’s State Attorney endured a contentious legal battle against a ‘Goliath’ of opaque and vindictive political bureaucracies for many years is testimony to author Greg Dillon’s ethical fortitude and perseverance.
Dillon’s decision to “die on this hill” of misconduct rather than look the other way should be a great lesson to all of us that adhering to conscience and principle is the basis for human morality.
This is a “must read” for all law enforcement officers and those who might have a special calling to a profession which is not for the faint of heart.
The Thin Blue Lie read like a bestselling crime fiction novel, yet it was what the author faced on a daily basis for years on end.
What an incredible story of fortitude. Most would not have stayed true to themselves or had the guts to stay the course and see it through to the end.
I was saddened to learn of the depth of corruption, enabled by a man blinded by his own twisted political ambitions. But I was elated to the learn the outcome of the jury awards. (I pulled out my pompoms early on in the book, rooting for the good guys.)
Thank you Greg Dillon for being one of the good guys.
