Harriet Muncaster studied illustration at Norwich University College of the Arts before going on to get an MA in children’s book illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. In creating the art for her first book for children, she was thrilled to have found a good outlet for her lifelong fascination with miniatures. She lives in Hertfordshire, England.
I adore these Isadora Moon books! They are so charming and fun. The illustrations are full of the most darling details that always make me smile. The stories are well-written, the characters all feel well-drawn. I've read the series out-of-order but hope to get to the rest of them in the next few weeks as they are perfect for someone like me who loves a bit of Halloween fun without the scary-factor. (The books are not centered around Halloween and could be read any time of year, but since Isadora's father is a vampire and they live in a castle, etc. there are definitely some elements that fit well for this season.) ISADORA MOON GETS IN TROUBLE Aw, darn. This was a four-star for me, until the last few pages. Muncaster deftly portrays the thoughts and emotions of a “good kid” who feels roped into trouble-making by a bad influence—in this case, her cousin. They aren’t doing anything truly awful, but Isadora’s conscience is pricked and she knows better… but goes along with the schemes, anyway. I thought it was all handled well, including the eventual confession and consequences, but the ending just blew it, IMO, as it completely undermines the whole message that was just conveyed! :-(
Isadora get in trouble! Yep, our sweet Isadora gets into big big trouble in this book!
At first I thought I already read this book when I was at Library #1, but then I found out I hadn't read it. OMG. I just love the Isadora Moon series, they are cute, sugary, glittery, and fun. I was very much curious on how Isadora would get into trouble and how her parents (and school) would react.
In this one we see Mirabelle, Isadora's niece, visit for half-term. I was happy to see her again, though my happiness quickly disappeared when she did some not so good things in this book. Yes, Isadora should learn to stand up for herself, that is very important, BUT, Mirabelle is older than Isadora and shouldn't abuse that fact and persuade Isadora to do things that Isadora may not want to do.
At first the magic is pretty fun, I love the idea of them changing themselves to tiny format and then have fun with the slide and the doll house. What a fun idea, I would have loved to do that when I was little as well. However, then she makes a dragon and I just knew that was a terrible idea. Yes, it didn't spit out fire, instead tons of pink and glitter, but it did grow and it did make a terrible terrible mess. Still, instead of saying no, Isadora took the dragon with her to school. Trouble had already started at home, and I knew that it would be full blown chaos at school.
I wasn't happy with how Isadora lied to her parents, but I am glad with the ending. She really does need to stand up for herself, say no. I hope that she learned her lesson from the things that happened in this book. And that she stops lying to her parents, they are so sweet and deserve honesty and truth. I am also happy with Mirabelle. Good girl.
The ending had me smile, haha, I am glad that their friendship is still strong. I hope they have a very fun week full of glitter and happiness, though without any naughtiness.
And of course, I can't forget them, the illustrations are still so cute and fun. I love the style and I love how pink everything is.
All in all, I need more Isadora Moon in my life. And I would recommend this one to everyone.
My daughter received a few of these books for Christmas, she will be 5 soon and is really enjoying reading some more advanced books with me, the illustrations are beautiful and the story between Isadora and her cousin Mirabelle teaches a good lesson.
Best book I've ever read and I would recommend it to literally anyone who likes reading funny books that are chapter books but they aren't too long like they wouldn't take you like so long to read but this still a chapter book and it's just a really good chat to work I find it's good for kids and really anyone who likes this sort of your na but yeah it's so good I would literally recommend it to anyone and it's best book ever so I love the isadora moon series if you haven't like already seen them then you need to read some of them because they're just so good yeah have a good day
〰️𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗥𝗔 𝗠𝗢𝗢𝗡 𝗚𝗘𝗧𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗘〰️ 🪶 Autor:Harriet Muncaster.
My kids adore all the Isadora Moon books and I credit these for my 8-year-old being able to read as quickly as she did, they were the first books she read by herself and my 6-year-old is going the same way.
This particular book, Isadora Moon Gets in Trouble, made my youngest panic a few times because she hates getting in trouble, so we had a bit of difficulty getting though the whole thing without her hiding under the covers, but there was a great lesson at the end about being assertive and the power of peer pressure to make you do things you don't want to do.
Someone down-rated the book because Isadora The lesson of this book isn't to teach kids do as they're told, but rather to do things because you want to - not because other people are pressuring them to. Which is a very good lesson indeed.
The author Harriet Muncaster definitely knows how to write for her target age group. I have read a lot (so, so many) kids books and this series is the one my children like the best. Very well-crafted writing, just the right balance of easy to understand and entertaining to read. It's hard to guess what kids will be into or even understand their preferences, but these books are always a winner. My children can't get enough of these stories and I only wish there were more of them.
Isadora Moon Gets in Trouble is a piece of British literature that tells the story of Isadora, a half-fairy, half vampire and totally unique girl, who wants to bring her magical pet Pink Rabbit to school, because at Isadora´s school is Bring your pet to school day, but her witchy cousin Mirabelle is staying at Isadora´s house and she has a better plan; She and Isadora are making a potion that can make a dragon, but, when Isadora brings it to school, the dragon starts messing up the classroom, and sadly, Miss Cherry, Isadora´s teacher, is very angry at Isadora and tells her to go home early as a punishment for all the mess. When she goes to Principal Valentino´s office, Isadora tells the truth about her punishment. Then, Isadora´s mother arrives for picking her up and Isadora feels very nervous of the reaction of her parents to tell the truth about her punishment, so she starts saying lies and later, the dragon appears at Isadora´s bathroom. Her parents looked at her and Isadora, crying, tells the truth and Mirabelle, also a bit sad, tells the truth. Later Isadora´s father punishes Isadora and Mirabelle for all the week, so Isadora learns that she doesn´t have to let herself to be influenced by others. This book teaches that we don't have to let ourselves to be influenced by others.
There's something endearing about these early reader books featuring a girl who is half-fairy, half-vampire. I've read the others in this series and really enjoyed them as will be the case for many youngsters, especially those with a bit of interest in magic. Isadora Moon is a good, mostly obedient girl, but when her cousin, Mirabelle, comes to visit, she goes along with whatever the girl wants. This leads to quite a bit of trouble since Mirabelle, half-fairy, half-witch, adds a bit of magic to their games, using a potion to shrink Isadora Moon and herself as well as Pink Rabbit, Isadora's pet. But Pink Rabbit stays very small for much longer than the girls do, prompting Mirabelle to create a baby dragon. It's adorable, but it also grows quickly, and when Isadora takes it to school, the dragon causes quite a mess. Isadora gets in loads of trouble, and she eventually must confess to what's been going on. Her parents remind her that she needs to learn to stand up for herself and not just go along with whatever her cousin or others want. This is a fast read with a good message and plenty of pink touches in the illustrations. The text contains plenty of references to Isadora's unique world and upbringing with her mother using her wand to stir cake batter and her father constantly sipping on his favorite red juice.
Isadora’s cousin Mirabelle is staying for the week and thinks it’s fun to use her magic to make everything a little more fun, turning them tiny to play in the doll house, creating a dragon for Isadora to take to school. The fun gets Isadora into big trouble and she starts telling lies.
I love Mirabelle she’s so funny and so incredibly naughty, she is just having fun but she goes a little too far and makes things into big messes. Isadora is so cute, she knows it’s wrong and that it’s not what she wanted to do but didn’t want to upset her cousin so kept going along with it all.
I really enjoyed this one it was so cute and the dragon was so funny puffing glitter and stars everywhere he went. I also enjoy the illustrations in these books, the added colour pop on each page is so beautiful and the characters are just cute to look at too.
Isadora is so excited that her fairy-witch cousin is coming for a visit! But her cousin, Mirabelle, is a little bit older and a little bit more adventurous than Isadora. Mirabelle's activities are a lot of fun, but soon Isadora realizes that maybe she shouldn't have agreed to let her cousin magic a baby dragon into existence. Can Isadora keep the dragon a secret from her parents so no one gets in trouble?
Another great addition to the sweet Isadora Moon series. I enjoy the twist on the traditional realistic fiction first chapter book. The only difference between these titles and other everyday school adventures is that Isadora's mom is a fairy and her dad is a vampire-but those changes are enough to make this series hold its own.
In this book Isadora and her cousin Mirabelle have fun with a dolls house and even become part of it with a nifty spell!
However as pink rabbit remains miniature, the girls also struggle with a new oet, a dragon!
As the Dragon causes havoc at school and Isadora's parents have no idea about any of this going on, how long will they be able to keep it all a secret?
It was such a cute and fun story to read and especially as we meet more of Isadora's family it shows how they have different skills and creates more fun for us to read!

I'm reading these aloud with my daughter (6) we've just finished the Amelia Fang series and decided we should go back to Isadora next. In this one Isadora gets into trouble when her cousin Mirabelle comes to stay, there are potions, spells and a dragon. A nice story with a good message about being truthful and sticking up for yourself. My daughter really enjoyed it and she loves the illustrations.

Isadoran serkku, noita-keiju Mirabella on tulossa kylään.
Humorous with a lot of lessons to be learnt throughout. Mirabelle and Isadora remind me of my cousin and I always getting into mischief. However, Mirabelle did seem to have a bad influence on poor Isadora and lying to her parents probably made things worse! It’s a good thing that Mirabelle didn’t let her cousin take all the blame
I thought the dad saying “You’re grounded. Literally” was quite funny 🤭
