Gabriel Spencer is a Detroit beat cop determined to make detective by any means possible, and putting an end to a mysterious string of murders looks like the quickest way to accomplish that goal. Prostitutes and escorts, drained of blood, bodies abandoned in ditches, playgrounds, and Dumpsters… It all reeks of a similar spate of killings from decades past, and no one but Gabriel seems to see the connection. Modern crimes, however, can sometimes have ancient origins, and unfortunately for Gabriel, he fails to account for the real culprit—or the thought that perhaps he isn't the only one on the hunt for a killer.
A vampiric crime thriller tinged with romance, horror, and intense world-building, Letifer serves as a standalone novel in The Dark Vagaries series.
*screams, cums, and dies* this was put in my radar by a friend who knows how I like my shit and holy fuck it exceeded my expectations. VampireMan McFatTits my beloved.
Very entertaining, fast-paced story with good chemistry between the main characters and fun, witty dialogue.
The mystery plot may not have been mind blowing, but it didn’t really need to be, and it did its job of providing an interesting background for the developing relationship between the characters. The romance was compelling and sexy, so all in all this book was a very pleasant read.
I do have minor issues with the resolution of the story, as in some things didn’t make a lot of sense to me. *spoilers ahead* I didn’t understand why Nines’ boss seemed to be more preoccupied with the fact that a human knew about vampires than with catching the actual murderer, resulting in Nines and Gabriel having to face the twins on their own (which I guess was the point, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense in-universe that he had to go to the rescue without any backup from the highly powerful organization he worked for). And then, after the case was solved, she was still adamant that Nines had to kill Gabriel to protect the secrecy of vampire society, which in my humble opinion is a terrible idea, considering Gabriel is a cop and his death was sure to attract a lot more unwanted attention towards them than letting him live. Her actions felt a little bit forced, as if the author wanted to make her the bad guy on purpose so that Nines had a reason to call his brother. Which is valid, but it didn’t feel organic to me.

This entire story is a wonderful ride from start to finish! It was so easy to fall in love with the characters and wanting to learn more and more about them, and having the added mix of supernatural elements and tense case-solving just heightened the emotions and made it all the more enchanting. I couldn't stop once I started and I didn't want it to end, but the conclusion was just so satisfying to reach and I loved every moment of it. I melted for the romance and was on the edge of my seat for the action and crime, and the lore behind the supernatural side has me eager to see what else will come from this series. This is truly one of my favorite stories I've read and I am already looking forward to reading it again and again!
This was so good. The slow burn was slow burning, the vampire lore was crazy, and Gabriel Spencer is so lovable. The characters felt really fleshed out and there was not a time where I thought "I don't really know this character" which I love. There is also a few slice-of-life bits in here that related to the romance subplot which I ate the fuck up. A lot of books with a romantic plot or subplot never put in random slice-of-life bits which is tragic. I want to read more about these characters even if it does not directly move the main plot forward. I really hope to see more books in this series that are either in this universe or relate to Nines and Gabriel because I love them both.
The world-building is great, even though there is a lot about that world I did not like. I enjoyed the story so much. It had the right mix of story and relationship. Very satisfying.
what a TREAT!!! This author just really knows how to do a slow burn. so so good. even mix of plot and romance, neither of which were just set dressing, and eventually intertwined in a satisfying way. will absolutely be reading the next one ASAP.
