The tent door flutters in the warm breeze, opening towards the silent woods beyond. A silk eye mask lies on top of the empty sleeping bag, blood-red spots ruining the cream fabric…

When a woman disappears from Forest Pines campsite, Detective Morgan Brookes scrambles a search party. Sara Fletcher has never missed a lunch date with her best friend and when Morgan finds a large rip in Sara’s tent, she knows that something terrible must have happened. About to lose hope after hours combing through the acres of dense forest, the excited bark of a tracker dog leads Morgan to female remains, partially covered by leaves and dirt – but the bones don’t belong to Sara.

Morgan trawls through missing persons files until she finds three cold cases with chilling similarities – three other victims dating back twenty years who were taken from campsites while they slept, by a killer the police called The Travelling Man. The post-mortems indicate he kept them alive for 72 hours, meaning every second is crucial to find Sara alive.

Morgan’s team is terrified that this twisted murderer has returned. But Morgan also can’t ignore the fact that a merciless killer from her own past has recently escaped from prison… Could they be chasing the wrong man? If she’s correct, how deep will she have to dig to save Sara and other innocent women like her before time runs out for them all?

A completely unputdownable, heart-in-your-mouth crime thriller. Fans of Angela Marsons, Lisa Regan and Rachel Abbott will be glued to the page!

*4.5 stars*

Sara Fletcher goes missing from the Forest Pines campsite. Her tent has been slashed and there are blood spots on her cream silk eye mask. Strangely, police following the trail through the dense forest, also come across skeletal remains which look as if they’ve been there for many years. The remains are covered by a thick carpet of leaves. Did they discover this by accident or was it intended?

The setting is the pretty tourist town of Keswick in the Lake District - not too much crime normally, but all of a sudden detectives have three serious incidents to investigate within the space of 38hours. The third of them is the despicable attack on an 82 year old woman. Just what is going on? And are these three incidents connected?

Well it’s up to DC Morgan Brookes and the team to investigate. They discover similarities with Sara’s case with one in the past, where a twisted murderer kept his victims alive for 72 hours before killing them! The race is on to find Sara Fletcher before it’s too late.

Well, what can I say other than this was a really fast paced read with unbearable tension (nails bitten accordingly)! Helen Phifer also made a great job of bringing the characters vividly to life, (both good and bad) let’s just say it was completely gripping!

This is the fifth book in the Detective Morgan Brookes series and I think it is the best one yet. A woman, Sara Fletcher, has disappeared from the Forest Pines campsite. There is a slit running down the back of her tent and spots of blood on her eye mask and bedding. It looks like she she has been taken.

Her friend reports her missing when she doesn’t turn up for their lunch date. A search is immediately started and bones are soon found. But these are clearly not Sara’s. They have been here for around 20 years. Further searches indicate she was taken by a vehicle and the trail goes cold. A former Detective Inspector Brian Walter contacts the team telling them the disappearance has all the hallmarks of a case he was investigating years ago and never solved. He referred to the perpetrator as the Travelling Man. He agrees to bring his files to Rydal Falls and help in any way he can. He tells them the Travelling Man’s MO is to hold his victims for 72 hours before killing them. The clock is ticking!

This case is really getting to Morgan, it appears that the perpetrator is a local and Morgan volunteers herself to act as bait. This is not agreed by her basses but she nevertheless finds herself in deep trouble as it comes to her door! This is a lovely close knit team of officers who do their best for their community. Will Morgan and Sergeant Ben Matthews ever admit their feelings for one another? And how does Morgan’s killer father Gary Marks fit into the story? The pace was pretty relentless throughout as it was a race to save Sara before she was killed. The ending was quite terrifying. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

Detective Morgan Brookes #5

The tent door flutters in the warm breeze, opening towards the silent woods beyond. A silk eye mask lies on top of the empty sleeping bag, blood-red spots ruining the cream fabric....

When a woman disappears from Forest Pines campsite, Detective Morgan Brookes scrambles a search party. Sara Fletcher has never missed a lunch date with her best friend and when Morgan finds a large rip in Sara's tent, she knows something terrible must have happened.

When Sara is reported missing by her friend, DI Morgan Brooke is concerned for Sara's safety. A large search party is searching for Sara and a tracker dog finds human remains that were covered by leaves.

There's not much more i can tell you about this book as it would contain far too many spoilers. The pace is fast in this thrilling read that had lots of twists. As always, Morgan gets herself in sticky situations. I really like this series and the books get better and better. A fantastic read from beginning to end.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #HelenPhifer for my ARC of #FindTheGirl in exchange for an honest review.

I adore this series, and I was so looking forward to reading the next installment.
I was hooked from the start, the beginning scenes gave me chills and palpitations!
As the story progressed, my attention did wane a little, certainly more than I am used to with this series, but I think this was more about my own concentration than the book itself.
The characters are becoming like old friends, and this is why I love reading strong book series.
I have already received an ARC of the next book Sleeping Dolls which I may start immediately...

Find the Girl by Helen Phifer is the 5th in the Detective Morgan Brookes series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Information: (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books)
Morgan Brookes is living her dream.  She is a Detective Constable for Rydal Falls.  She works under the direction of DS Ben Matthews.  Other members of the team include, DC Amy Smith and DC Des Black.  Their boss is DCI Tom Fell, and their go-to Forensic Pathologist is Declan Donnelly. After losing her mother,  Morgan finally got to know her dad, but Stan is now dead.  Meanwhile, she has learned that her biological father is a rapist and a killer, and has now escaped from prison.

My Synopsis:   (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
When Sara Fletcher doesn't meet her friend for lunch, she is reported missing.  She had been camping at Forest Pines, but hasn't been seen since her arrival at the site yesterday.

Morgan and Cain discover a large rip in her tent, and fear the worst.  Then they find the skeletal remains of another woman.  Sara is still nowhere to be found.  Retired DCI Brian Walter offers them assistance, as he feels that there may be a serial killer on the loose, someone who has been taking campers from their tents for many years.  Brian calls him The Travelling Man.

Meanwhile, Morgan frets that it may be Gary Marks that is targeting these women, as she thinks she has spotted him in the area, but it isn't really his MO.  What are the chances there would be two serial killers in the small town of Rydal Falls?

My Opinions:
Probably the best in the series, but I have honestly enjoyed them all.

Although I am not a romance reader, I am starting to like the relationship between Morgan and Ben, as it has been slow in building, and started as a friendship.  Actually, all the characters are quite well developed, and likable (although Des doesn't seem to fit).  There seems to be a new Chief Superintendent, but we didn't even learn Mel's last name.... Morgan can sometimes be a little impulsive, but her dedication is admirable, and there is quite a bit of ribbing between team members, which makes the dialogue enjoyable.

The plot was really good, and the ending was a surprise, and very well done.  It was a fast and enjoyable read, as the action was non-stop.  Suspense built throughout.

I really have to find time to read the Lucy Harwin series by this author.

Book 5 in the Morgan Brooks series and as with the first 4 another unpardonable case, in fact this was the best one so far.

Sarah is taken from her tent in the forest. Brooks finds herself at a loss and she searches through cold cases where she discovers three previous murders from twenty years earlier known as the travelling man. Plus ofvourse we have the on going will they won’t they storyline between Morgan and Ben but with pressures of the case it’s not really the top of their priorities.

I absolutely loved this installment, I found the fast pace of the investigation reverting and hard to put down. As usual Morgan Brooks is still one of the best investigators in the world of fiction. She works our if its the same killer her and her team only have 72hours to fund Sarah and arrest her capture. The case follows Brooks and i found myself really engrossed with the proceedings. I did manage to make an educated guess who the killer was but it made it even mire fun to work out, alongside the book.

As this hard to review without giving away spoilers I will say pick up this series and never kick back that’s what I did and I am yet to be let down. Easy 5 stars recommend to crime buffs all around the world.
Thank you netgalley, Helen Phifer and bookouture for the digital ARC of find the girl in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.

I am excited to be taking part in the #BooksOnTour #BlogTour for Helen Phifer's exciting crime thriller FIND THE GIRL.

I have been a fan of the Morgan Brookes series since the second book and a fan of Helen Phifer for just a tad longer, with her Dr Beth Adams series. It is immediately engaging and fast paced from the start to finish with a rollercoaster ride of twists...some of which you would never expect! FIND THE GIRL is the fifth in this exciting series and it takes an interesting turn in two aspects...but you will have to read it to find out how.

A young woman goes missing from Forest Pines campsite in the Lake District and her best friend Sofie is quick to raise the alarm when Sara doesn't meet her as arranged. At first it is thought that she had gone for an early morning walk in the forest but when the police are called they find her tent ripped, blood on her pillow and drag marks leading to the forest. DC Morgan Brookes knows at once that something is not right. Calling in for a search team the search dog finds something no one was expecting...skeletonised remains buried deep in the heart of the forest. But the trail for Sara has gone cold.

When a forensic anthropologist called in to recover the remains, he ascertains they are between fifteen and twenty years old. But the case for finding Sara is still young and so the team begin to investigate any and all possibilities, most of which lead to dead ends. But Morgan has a gut instinct. When she receives a call from a retired DI down in Kent who claims to have had a similar case on his books, as well as a couple of others he suspected were linked, Morgan knows the skeletal remains and Sara's disappearance have to be linked. And what of the fatal bashing of an 82 year old woman some miles away? Could that too be linked?

But what kind of killer goes cold for almost two decades before he kills again? One that's been in prison maybe? And that's when Morgan gets a chill run down her spine. It can't be...can it?

Not for the first time, Morgan's past comes back to haunt her as she and her partner DS Ben Matthews race to find this cold-blooded killer before it's too late.

There isn't much more I can say without revealing spoilers because this book is riddled with them! Prepare to be shocked...because this case is like no other and Morgan will find herself in a race against time like never before...with a most unlikely ally. I will say that I thought Morgan had a death wish thinking that she is immortal after all the scrapes she has been in previously and survived. And I think Ben agreed.

FIND THE GIRL is thoroughly addictive as well as terrifying from start to finish and it kept me up until the wee hours of the morning. The suspect pool is small, even non-existent, until Morgan's instinct kicks in. I suspected one and then the other and then another was revealed before I was surprised my first suspect was right... This installment really is a thrill-ride of all thrill-rides.

The penultimate climax, I have to say, was the best. I even shed a few tears for a most unlikely character. But that ending...WOW! That was the best yet...and I hope this is not the end of this series. But it does leave one wondering where it will go from here. I do hope to read more and I do so love this series.

A great cast of characters - both likeable and unsavoury - and the relationship between Morgan and Ben. Their attraction has simmered over the course of the series...and I like their camaraderie.

Chilling and gripping to the end, FIND THE GIRL is probably the best yet of the series. Although I have enjoyed them all, this one will certainly stick out in my memory for a while yet.

Recommended for fans who love crime thrillers that are fast paced and chilling. Bring on Book 6!

I would like to thank #HelenPhifer, #NetGalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #FindTheGirl in exchange for an honest review.

FIND THE GIRL is the fifth book in a police procedural series featuring Detective Morgan Brookes by Helen Phifer. I’ve read many of Helen Phifer’s books and this the fifth book in the series and is another definite winner! Although this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the books in order to get a full history. This is my review of Find The Girl.

The books in the Detective Morgan Brookes Series:
BOOK 1-ONE LEFT ALIVE
BOOK 2-THE KILLER’S GIRL
BOOK 3-THE HIDING PLACE
BOOK 4-FIRST GIRL TO DIE
BOOK 5-FIND THE GIRL

Anna arrives late at Forest Pines Campsite, where she has booked a site for the week, to find that her spot had been given to someone else because they didn’t think she was coming. But she was given a spot on the outskirts near the forest. Sometime later she wakes up to find she wasn’t lying down in her tent but gagged tied and bound to the base of a tree. Her captive then slit her throat…

When a woman disappears from Forest Pines campsite, Detective Morgan Brookes scrambles a search party. Sara Fletcher has never missed a lunch date with her best friend and when Morgan finds a large rip in Sara’s tent, she knows that something terrible must have happened. A tracker dog leads Morgan to female remains, partially covered by leaves and dirt – but the bones don’t belong to Sara.

Are these two cases connected?

After further investigation, Morgan discovers three cold cases…three other victims dating back twenty years who were taken from campsites while they slept, by a killer the police called The Travelling Man. The post-mortems shows that the killer kept them alive for 72 hours, then disposed of their remains in the forest or woods.

But Morgan also has to come to terms with her biological killer father, Gary Marks, has escaped from prison and hasn’t been captured yet. Could he be responsible, or were they chasing the wrong man? Morgan must find the killer before he kills a new victim.

This is a fast-paced crime thriller with intriguing characters with a plot filled with twists and turns.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy.

4 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐🎧

I am a fan of this series; these characters are interesting. The mystery element for me just hit the spot, more than likely because I am so very new to the genre.

This investigation starts out because a woman goes missing from her camp site. That right there already had me intrigued. If you are anything like me and tent camped there is nothing scarier than thinking someone is outside of your tent!

Then the race is one to see if they can find Sara.
I didn't want to stop this book it really had me on the edge of my seat. There are things that surprised me and things that didn't.

But it was the ending that I just loved. The foreshadowing for the next book had me all kinds of excited.
Again, I am still enjoying the narration quiet a lot.

When a young woman goes missing from Forest Pines campsite at first. they thought she has gone on an early hike in the woods. But when she misses her lunch date with her friend and her tent is slashed with a blood trail. Detective Morgan Brookes knows there is something not right. When the investigate further they see drags marks going away from the tent. They realise the women has been abducted and discover a skeleton hand in the ground. Similarities of both incidents are to a cold case where women are abducted and then left for dead after 72 hours. The race is on to find the woman Sara Fletcher before she ends up dead.
Find the Girl by Helen Phifer is the fifth book in the Detective Morgan Brookes and Wow she has done it again with this brilliant action-packed thriller. I really enjoy the series and this episode is the best one yet. Especially the last third of the book which I found was gripping, nail biting stuff. 5 stars from me.

And that's why I don't go camping!

I'm a big fan of this series and have followed Morgan Brookes since the beginning and every book has been as engaging and well written as the last and book 5 is no different a great edition to a fabulous series.

A fast paced action packed, nail biting read from the first to the last page.

Another masterpiece from the extremely talented Helen Phifer.

Well if sleeping on lumpy ground and communal shower blocks aren’t enough to put you off camping then this book certainly is. This is as tense as a wire about to snap and my god I think I held my breath for so many pages I pretty much turned purple at one point.

The usual gang are back to solve another case, this time the abduction of a woman from her tent. The whole case is thrown into chaos when the dog tracking her stumbles across old skeletal remains. Are they connected? Possible first victim? With a retired DI offering information and calling him The Travelling Man is it possible that it is Morgan’s biological father, still on the run and out for revenge?

Every book I read in this series becomes my new favourite. The chemistry between Morgan and Ben sizzling away and the will they won’t they is right up there with Ross and Rachel on Friends. Morgan is still being followed by her constant companions Death and Disaster and infuriatingly seems to always volunteer for putting herself in harms way.

With a new character Chief Super Melanie being brought in (definite coincidence but I’m loving it anyway) my reading enjoyment was taken to a whole new level. There is something quite special about seeing your name in print, even if it is coincidental.

What sets apart this series apart is no matter how brutal the crimes, they are always treated so carefully and with the upmost respect and determination. So if I ever find myself a victim on a mortuary slab then Declan, Morgan and Ben are who I want.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Find The Girl' by Helen Phifer.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Helen Phifer, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 19th January 2021.

This is the sixth book I have read by this author. It is also the fifth book in the 'Detective Morgan Brookes' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'First Girl To Die' (book 4 in this series), 'The Hiding Place' (book 3 in this series) , 'The Girl In The Lake' (book 2 in the 'Beth Adams series),' The Killer's Girl' (book 2 in this series) or 'One Left Alive' (the first book in this series) which I also recommend anyone read.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'An absolutely heart-stopping and unputdownable crime thriller, perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Lisa Regan and Rachel Abbott.' I am a huge fan of all three of this authors so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Helen and if this is half as good as' First Girl To Die' (book 4 in this series), 'The Hiding Place' (book 3 in this series) , 'The Girl In The Lake' (book 2 in the 'Beth Adams series),' The Killer's Girl' (book 2 in this series) or 'One Left Alive' (the first book in this series) it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 48 chapters. The chapters medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Cumbria, UK 🇬🇧 The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. I have actually been on holidays to Cumbria so it will help me picture everything.

This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Detective Constable Morgan Brooks, Detective Sergeant Ben Matthews and Detective Constable Amy Smith. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple perspectives are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

Wow!!! Just Wow!!! I did not see that one coming!!! Yet another absolutely unputdownable page turning book from the extremely talented Helen Phifer!!! Fantastically written and such an addictive and compelling read. Excellent descriptions making it so easy to imagine what's going on. The book cover and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.

The storyline is an absolute roller-coaster ride filled with suspense, crime, drama, red herrings and is a very good psychological thriller that kept me up until late at night. There is also some heartbreak over a certain character and what happened to them. I won't say more as not to soil it for future readers. Did not see that one coming at all so well done Helen. It gets harder and harder to surprise me when it comes to crime books after reading so many yet that was a shocker. I loved the twist and just loved watching it all unfold. The storyline itself was very realistic and I would say that Helen has done quite alot of research in regards to procedure plus more which shines through when your reading. I loved how the book ended especially the what I've been waiting for moment me and am looking forward to see how the next one plays out. I won't say more than that as not to spoil it for others but fingers crossed something will FINALLY happen with certain characters.'. I thought what happened during a certain part between two characters at the end was very emotional but I think it was the perfect ending to something. .. OK I know that won't make sense if you haven't read the book but once you have, especially if you have read others, you will know what I mean. Congratulations Helen on what I would describe as a perfect and befitting way for him. Your books keep getting better and better which is incredible as I have loved each and every one of them. As always, looking forward to the next installment in this epic series!!

Although this is the fifth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

I loved meeting all the characters again. They have definitely become like friends to me over these books and it's always sad to say goodbye to them. The characters are all very strong and the fact that Morgan and Amy are such strong females was definitely a bonus with me being female myself. I love Amy and Morgan and her relationship with Ben and would love to read more about her as always. I'd love to read more about Ben, Morgan and a few others actually. I am looking forward to see what becomes of the relationship between Ben and Morgan also and I liked the way they had quite similar histories. More so after what happened at the end of this book. I also enjoyed the progression of friendship between Morgan and Cain who I really liked and enjoyed getting to know more in this book. I had fun watching the sarcasm and snipes between Amy, Morgan and Detective Des and enjoyed getting to know him a bit more in this book too. I absolutely LOVE Amy with her sarcastic say it as it is, larger than life personality and I loved meeting her again. Declan the pathologist is another big character for me and I really love his funny yet caring and compassionate personality and always look forward to seeing him. I love him more and more with each epic, suspense filled addictive page turning novel in this series!!

Well done on yet another massive success Helen and here is to the next success in an amazing series 🥂 🎈 💐. This is EXACTLY why your one of my favourite authors!!!! 😍

Overall another action packed, page turning, gripping, suspense filled edge of your seat must read by the legend that is Helen Phifer!!

Genres covered in this novel include Romance Novel, Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Hardboiled, Noir Fiction, Psychological Fiction, Police Procedural and Crime Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Angela Marsons, Carol Wyer, CL Taylor, Tess Gerritson and anyone looking for an epic read.

305 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

In this 5th book in the Detective Morgan Brookes series, we find Morgan, Ben, Amy and Des investigating a missing girl taken by a possible serial killer. Sara Fletcher disappears from her tent at the Forest Pines campsite. The back of her tent has been sliced open, there is blood in her tent and on her eye mast, and it looks like drag marks going from her tent into the forest. As a search dog is following her trail, he comes upon a skeleton found hidden under some branches and leaves. Was this a coincidence, an accident or were they led by there on purpose. Ben gets a call from a retired detective that says he has information for them and that this is not his first victim. He drives down with all his information and it appears they have a serial killer on their hands. Can they find Sara before he slashes her throat like the other victims?

This was a very intense story with a race against the clock. It appears the past victims were kept for 72 hours before being killed, so they need to work fast. With Amy doing her magic on the computer, Ben using his questioning and social skills and Morgan using her skills of deduction and reasoning, they search and get closer, but not close enough. Throw in the fact that Morgan's biological father, Gary Marks, has escaped from prison and Morgan thinks she has seen him, there is suspicion that he could be the culprit. The characters, even the secondary ones, are well developed and there are several suspects. The pace is fast in this thrilling read that had several twists. As always, Morgan gets herself in sticky situations, and finds herself in a life or death fight. This is a great series and I think this is the best one yet. I definitely recommend this book and series to those who enjoy a good crime/mystery and police procedural. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.

(4.5) Helen Phifer takes you on a ride every single time. Morgan is so relatable as a human being. The stuff she has gone through is mind boggling. Even though these can be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading the series in order. Be with Morgan from the beginning to appreciate her strength, her intelligence and just her. I love the fact that are always little twists in this series and we get to know everyone in the teams. My biggest issue is Ben. I still am not able to see what she sees, from the beginning he came across as slovenly to me. I am not sure why. That and how can he be her boss and seem a step behind? Maybe its because Ben won't color outside the lines and Morgan will. They say opposite attracts. I did figure out who was behind, but it didn't leave be bereft because there was even twists with that. Creepy - yes, twisty - yes take this with you camping - Oh H No!!! Thank you Net Galley, Bookouture and Helen Phifer for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Another brilliant book from Helen Phifer.
I love this series and it keeps getting better and better.
Morgan has a habit of finding trouble and this time is no exception!
A woman is snatched from her tent at a camp site in the Lake District and Morgan and the team are desparate to find her before it’s too late.
A retired DI contacts the team with information on the case and Morgan is keen to hear his thoughts as it seems this man has been killing women for many years, but has not been caught.
The final few chapters will definitely have you on the edge of your seat as more than one life is in danger.
A real nail biter of a finish.
A brilliant book that I highly recommend.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Why did a campsite owner give Sara Fletcher a obscure location? Did that factor in to her disappearance? What is more is that when Detective Morgan Brookes begins her investigation, she quickly discovers blood that proves that something dreadful has happened. Will Sara be found alive? At first Morgan is nervous when a tracker dog discovers female remains. However, the remains prove decades old, leaving Morgan with hope that they just might have a chance to find Sara.

Why are remains in the same dense forest where Sara went missing? Could there be a connection? Determined to find answers, Morgan starts with digging into cold cases, looking for said possible connection. She does indeed find a case from twenty years ago where the kidnapping and murder at least three victims happened at campsites. Why now if the cases are connected?

Meanwhile, Morgan is more than bothered that someone from her own past has escaped from prison recently. Not sure if this is the same person they are now looking for, but Morgan cannot help but be concerned.

Find the Girl is the enthralling fifth book in the Detective Morgan Brookes series. With exceptional characterization and a thrilling story, this book was impossible to put down. I have loved this book from the beginning, with One Left Alive being the exciting start to a compelling series.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This book is creepy in the best way!

I love thrillers that involve the woods and camping scenes. I don't scare easily, but "Find The Girl" by Helen Phifer had me turning on the lights in my house. This is the 5th book in the "Detective Morgan Brookes Series". I plan to read the other four books pronto.

When Sara goes mysteriously missing from her tent at the "Forest Pines" campsite, Morgan Brookes (a local detective) is called out to investigate. At the scene is evidence that Sara has been kidnapped. Additionally, Morgan and her team find a female skeleton that has been dead too long for it to be Sara's remains. The two cases parallel evidence from older unsolved crimes leading detectives to believe a serial killer may be on the loose.

Helen Phifer masterfully lays out this spine-chilling novel in intricate page-by-page detail. I loved this book! "Find The Girl" will be published January 19, 2022.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my free e-book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

I love this author’s books. I feel like I have read almost every book and series she has written. When I see the name Helen Phifer I request and/or purchase the book! This the the fifth book in the Detective Morgan Brookes series and it could easily be read as standalone book but this series is so good you’re going to want to read all of the books!

Since Morgan was moved up the ranks as detective, there has been so much drama and crime in this small area; but she is up to it and she can handle any case. When a woman is reported as missing from a campsite, Morgan quickly deduces that the woman has been taken from her tent. A search of the area does not find the woman but they do discover skeletal remains in the woods nearby the campsite. Is this case heats up, I retired detective from another district calls Morgan‘s boss Ben with a suspicion that this is a serial killer. Morgan agrees to meet with the man and he tells her that he has called this man the travelling man. Even the name sounds shivers up Morgan’s spine for some reason. To add to the mix Morgan‘s birth father, in prison for murder of her mother, has escaped and is on the loose.

Is Morgan’s father the murderer, is there another serial murderer in the area, is it the travelling man and will the woman be found safe; these are just a few of the questions I fretted over while reading. Could Morgan help solve the case and not get herself in danger and when will Morgan and Ben find out how well of a match they are.

I really enjoyed this book, it kept me on the edge of my seat and had a great storyline. Cannot wait to read more about Morgan Brookes and the rest of her squad.

Find the girl by Helen Phifer.
Detective Morgan Brookes book 5.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love this series. Great story and characters. I love Morgan’s character. I do hope there is more to come. 5*.

Book 5 in the Detective Morgan Brookes Series and another great read. Reads well as a stand-alone but the other books are equally good and you should consider reading them. Fast paced and for me an unputdownable read.

Briefly, when Sara goes missing from her tent on Forest Pines campsite Morgan starts a missing persons case but it soon becomes clear that she has been abducted. Following the trail into the woods they find remains of a body but no sign of Sara. When she is contacted by a retired police officer who believes Sara is the latest victim of a serial killer it seems like they may have a breakthrough. Then an old lady is found brutally murdered and they think it might be connected. Can the team find the killer before he kills again?

A great cast of characters and I love the relationship between Morgan and her work partner Ben, and the simmering attraction between the two of them. A very enjoyable read with enough red herrings to fool me until the reveal. I’m already looking forward to book 6 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

OMG I just love Morgan Brookes!

Although she seems to have a sixth sense where danger is concerned, she does not hide. She feels the fear, but catching a killer is the most important and if she has to throw herself in for of a speeding train, namely a vicious killer, she is the first to volunteer trying to make them come out of hiding.

On the other hand killer like her. Well, they would like to kill her more precisely. They will have to stand in line though, because Morgan will each and everyone of them a lesson.

She does not come out of the battle unscathed unfortunately, but that does not stop her either. The next time, for the next case she will be as determined.

And then there is Ben. Poor man. Every time Morgan suggests one of her dangerous ideas, he dies a little. He is often angry at her, but that of course has an underlying reason. Maybe it’s time they sit down and talk… 😊

I cried a little. My heart melted. Blood definitely is thicker than water.

A book I enjoyed a lot. 5 stars

Thank you, Helen Phifer and Bookouture

Another chilling and gripping read about Detective Moran and her team. This book made me think again about camping alone, away from other humans. A young woman disappears, another one's remains are found in the woods. There is an evil human on the loose, but it seems impossible to find him.

This is an addictive read as well as terrifying. I did however figure out who the culprit was early on, so that made this a bit of a different read to me, but still a very enjoyable one. I wish the world would not have these evil people, yet I enjoy reading about them. Helen Phifer really captures the soul of devil inside humans. The writing is vivid, strong, and brilliant, and I hope she will continue writing for years and years to come.

A word of advice. Never, ever go camping in this area of England, especially if you’re female and offered a remote camping site. Morgan is hot on the trail of a missing camper when more gruesome details are discovered. Morgan also can’t shake the feeling a blast from her past is lurking nearby. There are a couple of exciting revelations in this latest book, plus an astonishing act by one character. It kept my attention as I sped through the pages. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance copy.

Book 5 in the Detective Morgan Brooke’s series. From the prologue this book had me completely engrossed. For most of the book I was so positive that I knew who the perpetrator was but I was so wrong. I absolutely love this series and the characters. Detective Brookes and the team are some of my favourite characters in a book series and I love the relationship between her and Ben and the way it develops over the series. This book could be read as a standalone but i recommend reading the others in the series so you can get the background information.
