I do love this book. I read this book because of my curiosity about memory and how it works. In this book, there are some explanation about working memory, short-term memory and long-term memory. My favorite part is chapter 4, it's about working memory development and related cognitive processes. And also chapter 5, about working memory and academic learning it self.
Thank you so much, ergonomics & reaction times. :)

工作记忆,是近年来心理学界被热捧的研究方向。很多研究都尝试证实,工作记忆,而非短期记忆,和人的认知能力和智商,有较高的关联度。
  通过仔细的阅读完此书,发现在工作记忆和智商建立联系确实更具有合理性。
  
  本书从理论和实践总结的两个角度,深度分析了工作记忆与学习能力(智商)之间的关系。 本书的前几章介绍了工作记忆的理论模型,工作记忆与短期记忆、长期记忆,决策功能(Executive function) 整合后的认知过程模型integrated cognitive process model。
  
  随后,本书着重分析工作记忆的发展路径和测量方法。 我认为, 本书最大的实用价值在最后的部分第九、十章,其介绍工作记忆的训练方法和一些案例。其中的建议可以马上在生活中应用,效果立竿见影。
  
  举几个例子:
  1)智商与工作记忆的效率正相关,而后者与一个人的专注度正相关。而决定关注度高低的,就是人压抑、排出脑海中无关杂念的能力。即,一个人压抑、排出各类外界、脑海中杂念、干扰信息的能力越强,他\她的智商就越高。
  
  2)工作记忆的效率与长期记忆的储存方式相关。如果长期记忆是按照逻辑、结构化、系统化的方式储存的,那么认知思考时,工作记忆就能更快速的,从活跃的长期记忆库中 (active long-term memory pool),找到对解题、思考有帮助的信息。反之,长期记忆越散乱、无章,思考时能搜索到的有价值参考咨询就越少。
  
  因此,对任何希望提高自身学习能力、解题能力或智商的人,强烈推荐本书。前面几章的内容相对基础,对没有任何心理学基础的读者,不算太难;但如果只想寻找提高工作记忆(或智商)的方法,则直接看第九章即可。

Unlike every other book I've read, this is a cognitive psychology textbook. I'm a high school language teacher, and I read it for a research project that I'm doing on students with working memory problems. Not recommendable to the general public, but it is very well written, with clear language and plenty of charts and references to back it all up. My favorite part was the history of what we understand memory to be, and the explanation of its relationship to long term and short term memory.
