Almost dying after his brother abandons him in the Canadian forest, Wade Freeman is rescued and brought back to health by a small group of people residing in an abandoned weather station.
Returning to New Haven, a criminal hideaway secluded in the Yukon wilderness, Wade discovers a bloody feud between the homesteaders and the militants is about to breakout. Wade must choose a side to protect his family even though he knows it will mean having to fight his brother.
In a remote valley only a hundred miles away, exotic veterinarian Dr. Sterling Mead and his wife, embryologist Dr. Tonya Mead, Directors of the Cenozoic Project, fight an uphill battle against a hostile takeover to dismantle the program they have devoted thirty years of their lives to bio-engineering prehistoric mammals in hopes of one day reversing world extinction.
Solid read with the right mix of paleontology thrown in, semi-science, along with mystery, crime, backwoodsman’s ship, the power of friendship/common goals, and so much more! I had been looking for my next series- and I lean heavily toward apocalyptic stories with a scientific, medical, militaristic, plus a bit of an educational spin. The last three I started I just couldn’t get into. So bland…. This author grabbed me right from the start! I certainly won’t give away details of a giant *gasp!* moment early on in book that I experienced, which woke my daughter sleeping next to me (it was awesome!! ;). So many “out of left field” actions and occurrences like this amped up the story’s excitement level. Character development was there. With few related twists. AND - a surprise or two along the way. I LOVED the paleontology aspect. And constantly found myself flipping to Google to check out images of creatures. As well as learn a bit more about some animals in a few cases. Really interesting! I was surprised the main reason for the conclusion didn’t drag on for a greater length of time - thus prolonging all of our suffering. As it often seems to be the case. It was actually kind of refreshing! Many of us have enough stress and a constant thread of tension humming throughout our lives already on a regular basis, you know? Overall - I’m glad I picked this series up. As well as adding a talented new author into my world! No matter your preferred genre - give this series of three books a shot! You never know….. I loved it!
This is I thought the last in a series, but it seems to not be the case. The story ends with a bang and I do mean a bang. Luckily the main characters make it to safety, but just how you will have to read to find out. The author has said there are more adventures to come deep in the Wild and I can't wait for it to happen.
Where do I begin? Think Hallmark channel/ Yellowstone. Very predictable. The supposed good guys always win. Even though they weren't really that nice anyway. Ninja cavemen, killer moms who take out real killers easily. Bad ending after a 3 book reading. And oh yeah I can see why these animals went extinct. Easily taken down by a couple of 90 pound hominids with primitive weapons in about 30 seconds without a scratch. Nothing made any sense. Sorry but nothing much happened.
I enjoyed this book as a step back through time. The names of the creatures are hard to pronounce and I wondered if they were actual names but they sounded very historical so I went along. These stories really let your imagination go wild and make you wonder about the possibilities in our future. Our children and grandchildren have limitless worlds to explore
The story was interesting but is like very short story rather than a real book. Written like walking into the middle of a movie. You try to get up to speed so you get an idea of who is who. I'd rather read a full story so I don't plan on reading anymore of this author.
Riveting the only way to describe this book. It was awesome. I stayed up to finish this book. I had to finish it. The author out did himself when he wrote it. Non stop, thrilling, and to good to put down. I had to finish it, no question about it. I enjoyed every single word in the book. I devoured it. Fantastic reading!!
The fourth installment of the Deep in the Wild series has lots of action, thrills and some nasty pigs. I'm looking forward to the next installment to see what happens to everyone we've come to know in this series.
The Hell Pigs were definitely that. A good finish to the series both stories, the one at New Haven with Wade, Cate, and Adam (Russell gets what he deserves) and the one at the lab where the mammoths, sabertooth and other giant creatures where created. And don't forget the weather station it finishes up last. All and all I give the series 4 and 1\2 Stars.
