DANGEROUS LESSONS! LUKE SKYWALKER has found a key piece of instruction in his journey along the JEDI path - the voice of his teacher, JEDI MASTER YODA. But the lesson Luke must learn will not be taught by Yoda, and it will take - and give - more than the young Skywalker could ever have imagined.
Charles Soule is a #1 New York Times-bestselling novelist, comics author, screenwriter, musician, and lapsed attorney. He has written some of the most prominent stories of the last decade for Marvel, DC and Lucasfilm in addition to his own work, such as his comics Curse Words, Letter 44 and Undiscovered Country, and his original novels Light of the Jedi, The Endless Vessel, The Oracle Year and Anyone. He lives in New York.
I still don't know what exactly mister Mann is doing there or when and how he got there but at this point I'm just here to vibe and appreciate his lessons and beautiful chanel boots. Okay, on a serious note, this is top tier Star Wars and top tier storytelling. To connect the main Star Wars run with The High Republic through one of our favorite heroes is unique, smart, and works out perfectly. This is how you enrich a story! I love it.
As you've probably noticed I added a bunch of the comics I've caught up on to my Goodreads now specifically I'll make sure they don't count towards my reading goal don't worry.
Anyways this series has been fantastic and this latest arc that has gotten away from the "War of the Bounty Hunters" crossover has only improved it( WotBH was distracting imo) but this latest comic was top notch. Luke "meeting" Elzar Mann was unexpected and thrilling, loving the tie ins to the High Republic as time progresses in the comics and novels.

This issue came very close to being my favorite single issue of any comic series ever. Soule is a master storyteller in the Star Wars universe and the way he linked the High Republic in this is mind blowing. Just WOW!
Do yourself a favor and dive into the High Republic era of Star Wars because it’s obviously going to continue to be woven into the canon of Star Wars we already love and know!
100 stars. For light and life 🔥

Okay issue. These are my Star Wars characters, from the late 70's and early 80's. None of this new stuff. More background on Luke and his desire to to learn to be a Jedi.
“The more I learn, the harder it gets. A monster who says he’s my father chopped off my hand. I almost died getting a new lightsaber. My teachers abandoned me. The closest I’ve gotten to learning more was from that woman Verla and she told me the Force will use and manipulate me. Maybe I should just… Let it all go.”
If I could give this a thousand stars I would. This was one of the best things I've ever read in SW comics, genuinely. Luke Skywalker continues his mission to learn more about the Jedi and the Force, and he ends up on a strange planet called Gazian. What unfolds is one of the most beautiful, mystical and moving issues in this whole series.
As a huge Luke fan, this issue and this arc has been a gift. This period of Luke's life is very interesting and I like how Soule is writing about his struggles with his destiny, his father and the Force. I also just adore stories about the Force, what it means and how it manifests, and I love it when writers and storytellers get weird with it - and this issue was Force weirdness at its finest.
But now, I must get to some spoilers cause HOLY FUCK THERE IS SO MUCH TO TALK ABOUT.
Ugh, I loved this so much. This series has had some issues that I've not liked as much but it's issues like these that remind me what a great author Charles Soule is. He is, without a doubt, one of the best authors working on Star Wars at the moment.
This may just a single issue, but it feels like the storyline that unfolds within it should comprise several. The narrative is dense with intriguing ideas and discoveries, as Luke receives pieces of knowledge of the Jedi Order from a Force-attuned consciousness that dwells within a planetary ocean of such sentiences.
One of the funnier ideas in these comics is taking a single line of dialog from a Star Wars movie and interrogating it. This breezy issue has Luke searching the galaxy for more Jedi wisdom only to literally revisit some wisdom from Jedi Master Yoda. Good fun.
This must be the best Star Wars issue I’ve ever read. It totally works as a single issue, but it will be so much better if you read The High Republic books first. Thrust me, just focus on the main three books of phase 1 if you don’t wanna to catch up with everything released up to this point, and this comic will be even more meaningful.
