Arguably one of the best Cap epics I have read. DeMatteis’ writing and Zeck’s art mesh perfectly for a bunch of memorable storylines culminating in a final duel between Cap and Red Skull. Definitely would recommend to any Cap fan.

An amazing collection. It starts with a cosmic cube story, and ends with a multi-issue battle of wills between Cap and the Red Skull. Cap is pushed to his physical, moral and spiritual limits in these issues. The collection also includes the four issue Falcon mini-series and a time traveling adventure with Deathlok. Great stuff.

read the falcon (1983) run and captain america (1968) #296 - #301. the overall story of the falcon run was actually really good in my opinion, but i knocked off a few stars due to the storyline in the first issue, with miguel basically trying to rape that girl when he’s drunk and then sam saying he’s still a good kid who’s messed up. i get sam understands the bad backgrounds these kids have, but i don’t really like how that storyline was handled. it would’ve been better if miguel had tried to rob her or something else, because rape isn’t something you can really “he’s a good kid with unfortunate circumstances driving him to do it” your way out of in these stories in my opinion. other than that, i enjoyed having sam being the main hero, and the storyline tackled important things like poverty and exploitation of poor people and black people.

After an adventure in an alternate future with Dreadlok, we switch focus to the Falcon miniseries, consisting of a shelved Marvel Fanfare story and a 3 part story with a local gang kidnapping President Reagan. Then it's almost all build up to the return of the Red Skull for issue 300 along with Mother Superior and Baron Zemo. There's some good stuff here although 80's comics are much wordier.
