Eve can juggle work, school and a fixer-upper house just fine with a little help from YouTube. Well, she could, if her beloved cat, Thor, would stop getting into trouble—like getting stuck behind the walls. Thankfully, plumbers make house calls at ridiculous-o’clock in the morning.
Enter Brent who not only has all the power tools she needs, he looks like the God Thor. A mountain of muscle with movie-star hair, shining green eyes, and a perfectly scruffed, chiseled jaw. Just great. She doesn’t have time for all the lusty neediness rising where it should not be rising.
Eve reminds herself and her weakening knees that she’s a strong, independent woman determined to make it without anyone’s help. But as more renovation and cat-astrophes pile on, she finds her fingers doing the walking to call Brent to her rescue.
And she has to decide if keeping him at arm’s length fits her life plan, or if it’s the biggest miscalculation she’s ever made. It doesn’t help Thor seems to be in cahoots with Brent when it comes to foisting romance on her.
An opposites attract, smoking hot, mayhem and madness, romantic comedy. Oh, and one very naughty Maine Coon cat.

Okay Eve is an honest to god mess - her life is like a rollercoaster - no stopping point to live like a normal person. Be independent is her constant rant - a rant that also forgets she's a woman and deserves to enjoy herself like one.
Brent is our handsome and hunky as hell handyman who basically does it all - while remembering how to do life. You heard me - someone who knows how to do life.
And you tell me they don't match - but honey, sometimes that's the point - opposites attract - and teach you a lot about yourself too.
Sure they had their hell of a lot of issues, miscommunications (which made me wanna bash heads), and annoying moments - mostly Eve with the help of her friend Scarlett sorting it out - but Elizabeth tells us again and again that her couples will always make it - and you know what - I believed and agree with her this time too.
Plus the steam (not a whole lot -mostly fade-to-black), romance, and utter charm the novel and the MCs contain won me over. I mean shit the end scene (before the epilogue) made me wish so much for my own hero (aka Simon From Well-Met) to also come in a surprise twist and have that intriguing banter with me too (and fall in love all over again) - because yes Brent was that swell.
Also this novel made me wanna adopt a cat -just saying - I mean if I volunteer for mental health organizations, why not animal organizations too? It would be awesome.
So once again Elizabeth has won me over with her tough lovin but sweet characters, steamy romantic good times, and tackling of serious issues so damn well - infidelity, achieving your dreams, and of course cancer, that I will once again pledge myself for her next novel - because who needs to pass their psychology degree? Not me haha.
So I cannot wait for the next read, and I hope Elizabeth writes forever!
PS: Just wish they got Brent right on the cover, and more Brent POV. But I am still okay with this novel hehe.
Elizabeth SaFleur is a fairly new author to me but every book I have picked up I have enjoyed so that means I need to check out her previous works as soon as time permits. If you are looking for an entertaining, fun read look no further than Eve and Brent’s story, Eve is renovating her home but she is also juggling many other things so when her cat Thor get stuck behind the wall she is renovating it brings her to the end of her tether. But then Brett the plumber comes to the rescue and that’s when the fun and games begin….. This book has plenty going for it, it’s a wonderful read to escape with, it has wonderful characters and it has the perfect mix of love, passion and humour. A funny, entertaining read that I highly recommend.
5 Star Review of It Was All The Cats Fault (The Meet Cute series #2) by Elizabeth SaFleur Elizabeth SaFleur is a relatively new author to me but what I have read I have enjoyed. From the first chapter I was invested in Eve and Brent’s story. This story was amusing and had me smiling throughout. It had me laughing out loud on a number of Passions. Eve is juggling a number of things but the last things she expected to happen is for her cat Thor to get stuck behind the wall of the house she is renovating. When Brent, the plumber comes to her rescue, Eve is attracted o him immediately but she has a plan and that does not include a man. However both Brent and her cat seem to have other plans. This was a feel good read that was full of humour, steam and romance and ticked the boxes for me.
Oof! This pair bring the drama and the angst. Both Eve and Brent are pretty set in their ways. And, while some of that makes them very compatible, it also makes them clash when some of their unresolved relationship baggage escapes the locked doors holding it back. Those were the times I despaired of these two ever getting it right. I really appreciated the happy ending they get: they both support one another’s dreams and they both have to work on things to make their relationship the best it can be. Knowing that Scarlett is up next, I’m dying to get my hands on that next book. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
downloaded, sat down to read, finished all in one day. enjoyed this. I liked how both parties had to compromise and work together to find a speed that works for both of them. I also liked how they had to get over prejudice from past relationships or the relationships of the people around them in her case. I think the only reason it isn't a 5 is that I would have liked to get his POV as well. I am a fan of both sides of a story.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Eve is trying to have it all- be the first in her family to get a college degree, she’s bought her own fixer upper Arts and Crafts home and she is working at the local bakery/coffee shop. When her cat Thor gets stuck in the drywall behind her washer at 3am she calls the Flow & Go plumbers. Brent, the person who shows up to help is a look-alike for Chris Helmsworth-and Eve is a Thor fan!
I loved the main character. I thought she was relatable and so was Brent. I feel like the miscommunication and silent treatment is common in most relationships. I wish Brent winked less. It didn't work for me.
Winding a romance around the main characters’ pets isn’t new…but seldom is it this well done. I have survived about all of Thor’s shenanigans with assorted animals and enjoyed reading these accounts. The characters are well written and the romance plausible enough to fill the time between Thor’s antics. Well done.
Eve wants to be independent in ever aspect of her life. She’s watched both her mother and her sister give up their lives (Eve’s belief) for the men they marry and have no money of their own. She doesn’t want anything to do with that for herself, so she is working 2 jobs, going to school and just bought a fixer-up that just may be a money pit. Her cat Thor likes to explore, and in some instances, this causes more problems than it’s worth. Brent is currently running his father’s company while he deals with chemo, and he is also going to school to get his masters.
One night while exploring, Thor gets himself caught in the wall and the only option Eve has is to call a 24/7 plumbing company with the hopes that they can get her beloved cat out. In comes Brent, who is not only a plumber, but he has worked in construction most of his life and flips homes – so a handy guy to know. He gets Thor out and they strike a bargain, Brent will help Eve renovate her house and show her how to use his power tools.
This is a hilarious romance that had me laughing out loud many times. It also had me frustrated with the heroine at times, as it felt to me like she was going to far with somethings/situations (usually the wrong ones) just to prove a point whether to herself or others. I do wish we had gotten more of Brent’s perspective, to have a better understanding of him. What we do get, I enjoyed and wanted more. He’s a character I really liked. To me the ultimate story is about Eve learning that she can have her boundaries but not at the exclusion of love.
I enjoyed the story – the cat’s scrapes and antics were hilarious and how the romance ended was good based on the characters and set up.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love when a romantic story has angst, wit, funny lines, love and two characters you can’t help but fall in love with. This story covers it all! So delightful, and just so much to love about it. Eve is a young woman with goals in her life. She’s a planner and doesn’t exactly like when things don’t go her way. So when she decides to take on another task of renovating her old house, she never expected the adventure it would bring.
One of my favorite parts of this story were about Eve’s cat, Thor. He is the one getting into trouble and who brings Brent, a handyman, into her life. Let’s just say Brent is definitely the unexpected! Handsome, smart, funny and definitely handy! But will Eve give in and take the plunge with Brent? He definitely seems to be perfect for her, if he can convince her of such. I enjoyed their interactions and they most definitely have sizzling chemistry!
I love this second in this new series and enjoyed everything about it. I mean, if Thor likes Brent, how can Eve not?! I highly recommend this story and can’t wait for the next book. While they are standalone, you will benefit from reading them all!
How should you dress when the plumber is coming over at 11pm at night? The hot as f*#k, looks like Chris Hemsworth plumber? That is Eve’s dilemma. Elizabeth has the beginning of a great rom-com, that is LOL funny. The book finished strong with an HEA and some laughter. In between Elizabeth excellently crafts the struggle of young woman struggling to show she can achieve her goals and not be financially dependent on a man, living up to what she believes are her father’s expectations. And the guy, what can I say, he is easy going with a panty melting smile. No one is that perfect? Right?
Eve is young woman determined not fall into the same trap as her Mom and sister, give up her plans for a college degree for love. She wants to be in charge of her economic future. Brent is easy going, with a ready swoon worthy smile. He’s back home to help his Dad’s plumbing business while his Dad is dealing with cancer. He finds himself happier doing building and fixing things with his hands rather than sitting behind a desk in the city. Meeting Eve on a late night emergency call makes being back at home better.
Eve has everything planned out. Get her degree, get a job, and finish renovating the beautiful little house she just bought. What she didn't plan was her beloved cat, Thor, getting trapped in the wall or the sexy as sin plumber, Bent, who showed up in the middle of the night to rescue him. Absolutely wonderful characters, definitely opposites, who will learn that falling on love comes with its own set of rules. While Eve is laser focused on her goals, Brent is much more laid back, yet determined is prove to Eve that she can have him, too. While I loved Eve, Brent, and the rest of these well written, and realistic characters, I think Thor may have stolen the show. As a cat parent myself I am perfectly aware of the little "situations" into which a beloved cat can get himself. Funny and quirky romance with power tools and a happily ever after. I loved it!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I am loving this rom-com series by Elizabeth Safleur. It's delightfully charming and witty with just the right amount of angst and sexual tension thrown in to capture and hold your attention. There are lots of power tool innuendoes that will have you grinning. A Maine Coon cat named Thor who creates as much chaos as a car full of circus clowns and attracts trouble at every turn, almost steals the show.
Eve Chatam is working so hard to prove that she's independent and doesn't need a man, unlike her mother and sister, that when the right one comes along she doesn't recognize him. Brent Shadwell may come across as an ordinary repairman and cat rescuer when in fact he's an architect and accomplished builder. He's gorgeous, laid back and willingly goes out of his way to help Eve. Despite her best intentions to keep him at arm's length these two eventually find a happy medium in their relationship but there were a lot of bumps in the road along the way to love.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "IT WAS ALL THE CAT'S FAULT" OMG!!! I loved this hilarious laugh out loud rom com, our hooked from the beginning so addicting a page turner to the end. Eve is juggling work, school working on a fixer upper house doing just fine until Thor her cat gets caught behind the walls she has to get a plumber to help. Brent an absolutely gorgeous man shows up the plumber in the middle of the night to help get Thor out of the walls he immediately attracted to him but no she doesn't need any man for help shes a strong independent focused woman set on her goals. Brent who's very laid back along with Thor will work on EVE so she knows she can have both I love the journey they take the witty banter & of course throw in Thor you can't get enough. I definitely recommend to get this hilarious laugh out loud story these characters were so great you can't help but love them as well as Thor the cat so well worth the read you certainly won't be disappointed.
OMG I don’t think I have ever met a more needy and troublesome man before, but enough about Thor. He’s the cat by the way. His owner Eve sure knows how to get herself into a right pickle. The situations she finds herself in is because of said cat, see troublesome. However, if these situation did not happen she would not have met the handsome, funny and kind hearted Brent. These two are so adorable together. I liked my first read of this author and look forward to Scarlett’s story. A writer with no filter, her story will be interesting.
Eve is so focused on trying to prove she won’t end up like the ladies in her family, rich and simply a trophy wife for some hard hitting corporate executive that she almost misses out on a chance at true happiness. Brent comes to Eve’s rescue time after time as Eve’s cat, Thor, gets into one situation after another and the list of renovation needs keeps adding up. Yet she can’t turn loose of the idea that you can’t have it all. School, work, and an actual life. Well Brent won’t give up trying to change her mind which makes for some funny encounters. I enjoyed Eve and Brent’s story and recommend this book. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It Was All the Cat's Fault is the 2nd in a series of rom-coms by Elizabeth SaFleur and like the 1st, it is funny and full of witty dialogue. The cat in question is named Thor and he has so much character, you'd be forgiven to think the book should be all about him. It is not, of course, but Eve took a while to warm up to, since she sure was the kind of person looking at others and not herself when things don't go according to plan. In contrast, I loved Brent from the beginning, his humour, warmth and power tools. A feel-good book that is so needed! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another enjoyable, funny read. Eve and Brent. It's Thor who brings them together, he ended up in a wall, but it's really all about Hansel and Gretel, totally great play on words throughout the whole book, made me smile every time. Brent was very patient, and a good thing, as I was impatient with Eve as she had quite the few hang ups that she was working through and she almost blew it a few times. Everything is not as it seems, you think you know everything but it's not always what you see, you need to dig deeper. Loved the insight they Eve obtained at the end. "Everyone needs backup."
this book made me angry and then it made happy, and all over again. it was a torturous cycle but I wouldn't trade it. I couldn't put this book down. I never knew what was gonna happen. this book didn't follow the stretypical romance book outline and I loved that. I was angry at eve during most of the book because she was just so mean to her family she didn't try to see her mother and sisters side at all. and considered herself better than them I was happy that her and her father had a good talk.. It Was All the Cat’s Fault by Elizabeth SaFleur is book Two in The Meet Cute Series. This is the story of Brent and Eve. Eve is a planner and has time lines but what she didn't have was a obedient cat. Thor who is Eve's cat has decided to go into a wall at the new home Eve is trying to renovate. Needing someone fast to help her is how she ends up with Brent the plumber at her door. Brent is more easy going fun loving guy but he does want to catch Eve's eye. This was a totally funny opposite attract story line. Enjoyed it a lot!
I'm loving this series so much. Elizabeth SaFleur is one of my favorite authors and I'm really enjoying her romcom's that she's been writing. Thor, the cat, stole the show. I loved his personality throughout the who book. It took me a little bit to warm up to Eve while I loved Brent from the start. Maybe because Eve is so used to being in charge! The banter between them was great and I enjoyed watching the relationship between Brent and Eve develop. Can they finally get together?
Eve and Brent make a great pair - great backstories that helped the reader understand their need to be independent and also caring of others. I laughed out loud at some of the shenanigans - Thor had much to answer for but without Thor there would not have been a meet cute. Great story - looking forward to number 3 now. Elizabeth SaFluer never disappoints.
Eve has been working on finishing to get a college degree- the first in her family. She sees her mother and sister as less than because both were distracted by men and babies. She is definitely not going to end up that way. It starts when Thor, her cat, gets stuck in a wall. The story goes up and downtown from there. ENJOY!
Not very high on the sexiness scale, but the characters were good. Well developed, and Even the minor characters were interesting. The majority of the book was a sweet getting to know you story, but the last 15% or so was actually a bit heart-wrenching, but nicely resolved. One fade to black scene, one open door bedroom scene.
Eve and Brent are an opposites attract story. They only met because of Eve’s cat Thor. If Thor hadn’t gotten stuck where he did they wouldn’t have met at all. After some misunderstandings they finally get their act together.
Oh this was so good! I adored this book. I laughed out loud several times with Thor's antics and Eve and Brent getting the cat out of where it's currently stuck. So funny and Charming and most definitely sexy! This author is one of my favorites and I'm glad I got to read it!
This was a fun meet cute novel. Scarlett seems to attract one disaster to another with gusto. Brent seems to calm every storm. They couldn’t be more different. But despite all their push and pull, and much fighting from Scarlett, they fight to find their niche. It was a fun read!
This book was funny and smart and sweet. I definitely loved Eve’s quest to be independent and her cat Thor was a hoot! Mixing in the remodeling aspect was good too! Especially with a hunk like Brent.
