Who is Sabre Black? As a teen caught in up in the war between the serahs of North Andoren and the cendars of South Andoren, she's still trying to figure that out. She's not into hugs; that's for sure. Most importantly, she's a cendar thrust into a situation she can't control when she must fight for balance between the two nations. When the Grand Council of serahs banish her for purported treachery, she must prove her loyalty by rallying up troops from all across Andoren—but will they believe her? Even after she's been reminded to pick a side and fight for it, her hardest and most painful struggle is knowing what—and whom—to fight for.As she journeys across underwater cities, treks through charred forests, and fights dangerous battles alongside her best friend Acatar and a loyal serah named Destí, she must not only prove her fidelity to the serahs of North Andoren, but to herself. The stakes are high, the odds are low, and Sabre Black must overcome her past failures, blurred lines between good and evil, and the traditions of her family in order to restore peace and balance. Her future—and that of Andoren—depend on it.
This book was awesome! Yes, the author does just happen to also be my daughter, but I absolutely loved this book. As Arianna worked directly with her editor, I just now had the chance to read it for myself.
Arianna is such an amazing and talented writer, and I absolutely loved her book! I loved the characters, her description of Andoren and all the quarterlands associated with it, and her amazing and well thought out storyline.
My opinion may be seen as being biased since I am her mom, (this is Trisha Fox writing the review) but I truly enjoyed this book, and would have even if it hadn’t been my daughter who wrote it.
I’m the type of person who will sometimes give up on reading a book if it doesn’t pull me in and grab my attention within the first few chapters, but Sabre Black did just that. I got pulled in to the environment and discriptions of Andoren. Her descriptions were so vivid that I felt like I was actually there.
And I absolutely loved her main character Sabre Black! I loved her first person perspective and being able to “see” into her thoughts and the way she viewed things. There were many other main characters in the story that I also came to love.
Even though I was already reading a few other books by other authors as I read this, I kept being drawn back to this one. Not because the author is my daughter but because it was a great story! It made me laugh, it made me cry, it held me in suspense many times, and I just had to keep reading. Now that I’ve finished reading it, I know I will miss these characters and will have to read it again sometime, and hopefully Arianna will come out with a sequel, and until then, as for the characters I came to love, I will quote something from the book, “May the twin moons of Andoren guide you until we see you again!”
This was a very good book! I loved the intricacies of the different characters, and the themes and messages woven throughout. The world of Andoren is very cool; it’s almost Tolkien-esque with its languages in my opinion. Also in terms of content, the book is extremely clean with absolutely no curse words or adult content! I definitely recommend reading it ☺️
