A Lost Kings MC World Novel

USA Today bestselling author Autumn Jones Lake delivers an unforgettable story of heart-wrenching first love.

ROMAN
From the minute I met Juliet, I wanted to shield her from the world’s ugliness. We’d both already suffered more heartache than anyone should experience in a lifetime. I didn’t have anything of value to offer—just my jaded heart, broken soul, and undying love. But for her, I’d sacrifice my pride, my hostility, and my heart. Anything to see her smile. Consequences meant nothing. I would’ve given up anything, even my life, to keep her safe.

JULIET
Both our lives were soaked in tragedy from day one. That’s why we were drawn to each other the moment we met. I ignored the people who warned me he was dead inside. The truth was, he was as broken as I was. Together, we’d heal our hearts and stitch together our souls.

At seventeen, we fell in love for the first—and last—time.

★4.5★ Sweetness Stars
"You're my present. My future. When we're together, I'm something."
description

Renegade Path is another great contemporary romance by the talented Autumn Jones Lake. A few years ago she released the novella Cards of Love: Knight of Swords and ever since then, I have been dying for more Roman and Juliet! Renegade Path allows us to experience their full story. Roman was a troubled teen who bounced around foster homes his entire life. Although he has had to overcome many demons, he is a good kid who is just trying to find his way. When he relocates to another town, he meets Juliet. Juliet and Roman share an immediate connection. Juliet has a challenging home life as well, and Roman is not afraid to stand by her and carry her through. Together they become an unstoppable team!

"Just knowing you love me gets me through."
Renegade Path is a sweet coming of age romance with plenty of heart and grit. The challenges these characters face naturally draw them closer together. Their journey is long and hard but one that is truly beautiful to witness! With a strong ensemble of characters, including a LOKI fave, the dynamics in this read will keep the blood pumping the entire book!
"One day this misery would be a distant memory. One day."
Overall, Renegade Path will appeal to contemporary romance fans who enjoy young love that stands the test of time. Autumn Jones Lake is one of my favorite authors, and when she writes, I am always excited to dive in!

😭🤚5.5 Young-Love-is-forever stars.

🥺This book is..

🙂🥴I was smiling like a goofball through the whole thing.

🌼I have a thing for high school couples who stay together forever, maybe because I have the pleasure of experiencing something similar.❤❤❤

👑ROMAN

🎀JULIET

🤣This is one of the books where I shove down your throat, the idea that 'IT IS GOOD TAKE MY WORD FOR IT AND READ IT!'

😑The character ARC was amazing, at places I did feel Roman was being immature and kinda stupid, but thankfully this book has lot of grown ups, good and supportive grown ups from the Lost Kings MC series who helped Roman see straight.

🥰We witness the jouney of R n J from freshman year to them having their first kid after High School.

🤓AJL has maintained the pace perfectly without the book feeling too rushed or too boring anywhere.

👀There are one or two heavy violent scenes I must warn you but overall I think it was very safe and sweet and cutesy.

🥺🥺My FAVOURITE parts of the book were suprisingly not of R n J but those where Roman took care of Pip. It just shows you that inspite of living under foster care for so long, Roman has a soft side to him and it was comforting knowing that a squirrely boy like Pip had someone to look out for him.

😭Uncle Dex was also amazing and my heart kinda broke knowing what he has went through in past, he has his own book and maybe just maybe I'll read the Lost Kings MC, because the characters from those series that appear in this book are very good.

🟥SPOILERS🟥

❤Dual virgins.
🛑Attempted r*** on h by her uncle. Thankfully Roman 💀💀 him.
💛No-cheating.
❗❗Lots of violence.
❗❗Bullying.
💀Plenty of OW/OM drama but that didnt last very long just appeared at some places in the book.
💀Lots of separation but it's short lived and I feel that separation was necessary for the character arc.
Smut-8/10. (Since this is a lengthy book, so this obviously didnt have an erotica level of smuttiness but still pretty good)
💛HEA
💛Epilogue-They're pregnant.

Beyond 5 Juliet and Roman Stars

I adore this book...so much. This will be a go to comfort read for me when I need a reminder that no matter how tough things get, love will conquer all. You may recognise Roman (Vapour) and Juliet from Cards of Love: Knight of Swords which was the shorter version of their story. That was a 5 star read for me so I was really curious when Autumn Jones Lake said she was releasing their story in more detail. This is a much longer book and I devoured it , relishing all the extra detail.

Roman is in foster care, constantly shoved from pillar to post. His first day in a new school has him crossing paths with Juliet and they have a connection from the very start. He is the broody , defensive boy who doesn't belong anywhere. She is the sweet girl who has a hard home life with her abusive aunt and uncle. Together they find a kindred spirit in each other and a soul deep connection that even the toughest of times cannot break.

Roman is one of the loveliest Heroes I have ever read and Juliet is equally adorable. I wanted to fight for both of them - life is brutal to these two. I love them so much.

Roman really is on his own in life until he meets Juliet. I wanted to slap the adults involved with his life in care. He tugged every heartstring.

She wrapped her arms around me and pressed her cheek to my chest, squeezing me tight.
“We will one day, Roman. I promise.”
Christ, I couldn’t breathe. I liked the sound of we. I’d never been part of a we before.

It was fantastic to catch up with other characters from the Lost Kings MC Series and other connected books. I was sat there reading and squealing when another well known character would pop up. It was like being at a party and someone you really like walks in the room.

And can I just say , Autumn , I am wishing with all that I am that you may one day write Dex's book. I would be a very happy reader. Deliriously happy....

You can easily read this as a standalone but anything Ms Jones Lake writes is fabulous so I would recommend everything by her.

HEA? Yes
Cheating? No. These two are all about each other. No OM or OW drama at all. It is a truly beautiful love story.

“If I ever get married,” she twirled a few locks of hair around, “I want to wear them too.”
I stepped closer and bent down, touching my nose to her.
“What do you mean if?”
“I don’t know. If.”
“Juliet, the day I met you, I knew I was gonna marry you.”

I really liked this couple and loved that they were each other’s firsts! However, I don’t like that the author stated that there wasn’t a third act breakup when there was. I understood Roman’s reasoning, but don’t say there’s not a third act breakup when there is

There's no denying or hiding the fact that I am a massive fan of Autumns, I seriously love her work! She has created these worlds that genuinely feel authentic to me, the characters from each and every book feel real to me, it's like coming home and catching up with your buddies, and the way she writes, is just pure perfection!

This is Roman & Juliet's story and although they previously had a novella of their own, ignore it...this is the full story - and hot damn - what a story!!!!
Two seventeen year olds who have had the worst luck in families growing up - Juliet is left with her Aunt and uncle and he is a sleeze, lock-your-bedroom-door and never-be-alone-with-him kind of sleeze!! Roman has bounced from home to home for years.
And then comes the latest school, where he meets Juliet and in the short time they speak, he's smitten, he feels calmness for the first and he knows he's going to marry her one day!
And I loved that, it wasn't a sappy young love thing, it was genuinely two souls who belonged together, meeting for the first time...

As expected, things aren't straight forward.... although Roman spent years in foster care, he's not bitter, obviously he's peeved but he doesn't use it as an excuse to just give up and take the easy illegal route! He's got manners, he's got integrity and he's got the deep seated need and want, to provide for Juliet, and to do it honestly!
I truly adore these two, they really are a special couple who deserve all the happiness. Their story really hit deep, it just affected me, I felt what they felt, that happiness when together and that fear when they're apart, I felt it all and I loved every minute of it!!

I loved getting more of G & R!

I'm going to admit something that came as quite a shock to me ...Z has competition!!? From the very beginning of Lost Kings MC Series, I have adored Z... #ZsMine, but after reading Renegade Path, #RomansMineToo 😉

Five stars is nowhere close to what this book deserves! A true masterpiece and I thank you Autumn for sharing your genius mind with us!

I enjoyed it but felt something was missing. The story is somewhat bland, not much angst (despite the background of the MCs).
Honestly, I was hoping for more action, more drama, something to make me feel their connection. It didn’t happen.

Can I give 10 out of 5 stars here?

Autumn took Cards of Love: Knight of Swords and made it a million times better!

Now, I'm going to be completely honest here, Roman and Juliet are top 3 in my favourite AJL couples.
Yes, they're young
Yes, they're a little full of the drama (they're teenagers/young adults - find me someone who's NOT at that age)

But they have so much love for each other that you can't help but love them back.

I always knew Roman had heavy interaction with LOKI, but to read the additional BOOK she wrote to add to Knight of Swords and the interaction with the Wolf Knights and LOKI made my heart swell.

As always the Queen of bread crumb trails was in full force with this one, connecting dots to what we already know are future books. And I can't speak enough about the friendships/family bonds that were started in Renegade Path and are make my little Plot Hunter heart leap with joy!

If you've read Knight of Swords, do yourself the favour and pick up Renegade Path. You will not regret it. Yes, you'll remember/recognize a lot of it. But there is so much more for you to love.

If you have not read Knight of Swords, what on Earth are you waiting for? Autumn has hit this one right out of the park.

This is a true standalone (although you will see several characters from the LOKI series pop up here and there) and I promise you this, it's one you will read over and over again!

Juliet and Roman are perfection. They are love at first sight high school sweethearts. Roman is alpha sweetheart I love how he treats his girl and the people around him. The extra Autumn added to this story was just icing on the cake. I adored getting to see the LOKI guys make appearances and there was one or two surprise cameos as well that put a big smile on my face. If you love Autumn's LOKI world go grab this book and read away you'll love it. I didn't want to put it down I wanted to know their story. I hope Autumn does more books with these two as the main characters. I whole heartedly recommend reading any and all of Autumn's book they are beyond amazing .

2.5 🌟 rounded up

MC romance lite with a H and h who are each other’s firsts and lasts.

Roman (H) meets Juliet (h) on his first day at a new school, kicking in his locker because the combination won’t work… except it’s not his locker, it’s Juliet’s. Everything between them happens very fast, and they have a soul mate at first sight kind of connection. Unfortunately, they both have pretty dire home situations and it seems as if the world is against them.

Roman was pretty swoony for the most part, and he really saw Juliet and said “that’s the girl I’m gonna marry” which I LOVE. Juliet was a great character, steadfast and strong, she was a rock throughout their hectic relationship. For reasons I’ll explore below, I wanted to shake her at times and tell her to grow a bit of a backbone, but I understood her decision to give Roman some grace in certain situations even if I didn’t fully agree with it.

I liked the relationship between these two, and how sweet their love for each other was. The romance and relationship mostly worked for me, but there was some things that didn’t. For example, the fact that Juliet was treated quite badly (and yes he had good reasons but still) at times but never made him grovel or apologise for his actions. Or the way he made decisions that significantly impacted their future together without ever discussing it with her, and continuing to leave her in the dark about those aspects of his life, because she’s a “woman”. So whilst this wasn’t really a MC club romance, and it didn’t have the usual ow drama bullsh*t associated with it, it did still have the f*cked up misogynistic undertones that I absolutely hate about MC romances.
For that reason, and the way her other potential H characters behaved around “ring bunnies” and *club hos*, this author is not for me, but could work for less sensitive/more forgiving readers.

Safety:
Dual virgin - H had “made out” with ow in the past but that was it, H was h’s first everything.
No ow or om drama.
Everything between this couple was super safe, but there are quite a few mentions of sexist/misogynistic, walking STD behaviours from side characters that really grossed me out.

The couple: Roman and Juliet

Romance genre: Coming of Age/MC-adjacent
Series: Lost Kings MC World
Length: 446 pages

Plot: Juliet meets Roman at the beginning of her junior year of high school when she finds him mistakenly trying to get into her locker. She helps him out and he is immediately smitten - he knows she's the one for him. The two of them are both lost, broken souls, and they need each other. But there are outside forces tearing them apart: Juliet's guardians, the lure of her Uncle Dex's MC world, other kids at the group home where Roman lives, and Roman's own need to make something of himself and be worthy of Juliet. The two of them will need to be strong as they make it through the next couple of years. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it!

Commentary: This is a reworking of Cards of Love: Knight of Swords. Roman and Juliet now have an expanded story, and I am so happy about it! These two are so incredibly sweet and give truth to the idea that when you know, you know.
I made up my mind right then and there. One day, I’m going to marry this girl.

They meet as though it's fate, just when they both needed it the most.
Sadness clouded her eyes. “I live with my aunt and uncle. Not the same thing, but I understand what it feels like…not to…”
I waited for her to finish, anticipating what she’d say.
“Feel wanted,” she finished. She’d never have to worry about that again. I wanted her like nothing I’d ever wanted in my life.

Juliet is the stabilizing figure that Roman didn't know he needed. She never gives up on him, even when it seems like he's giving up on them (even though he "does it for her own good" and it never lasts long - don't fear, this is not a super-angsty second chance story where anyone needs forgiveness). She gives him the affirmation that he needs.
Only I knew the truth. Roman wasn’t bad. He was angry—but he had plenty of valid reasons for that rage. He didn’t need fixing, he needed someone to see his goodness. I was happy to be that someone.

When I put the page count at the top of this review, I was amazed - it did not feel like I read over 400 pages. It was such a beautiful story, and when I finished, I felt like I had only been reading for a short time. Something I loved was that this was an authentic young love story. Their sexual exploration felt like kids figuring things out, and that is rarely the case in stories I read. So many books out there have an 18-year-old boy acting like he's a master sex god, when you know that just can't be the case. Juliet was accurately nervous and insecure but eager, and Roman was quick off the trigger at least once, just like you would expect - that was the scene that really sold it for me! They were ready to explore with each other and become something special together.
I will say that at first, I was unsure about Juliet's trauma: . In the end, I decided that it was probably a matter of showing the kind of man that Roman is (and Dex as well, since he helped) - he has no problem expressing his love with words, but ultimately, he shows Juliet that he loves her through his actions, and in this case, he took care of the problem. And they probably had conversations about it off-page as well.

Anyways, this was such a treat! Roman and Juliet are the sweetest and their love is as solid as any of the other couples in the series. I liked that there was no other woman drama and that they were a united front from the very beginning. This is a feel-good book without being overly saccharine and it also plays nicely into the rest of the series (Lost Kings MC) for long-time fans.

*
Miscellaneous:
*Interestingly, in this book we meet the less-perfect side of Dex - Roman isn't impressed with the way he seems to abandon Juliet off and on. He pops in to leave a present every now and then, and obviously loves her, but that doesn't really help her that much, and Roman knows that. In the future, we see Dex as this quiet, stoic gentleman, but this is a different view of him.
*We meet Pip, Griff, Remy, and Eraser in this book
*Murphy makes a brief appearance and we see Bricks and Teller at the courthouse also
*We come across both Tony Cain and Hope in court
*This is our introduction to the Wolf Knights - Ulfric, Whisper, Merlin, and Hudson

Next book in the series: in chronological order, Slow Burn

“Wait.” I caught her around the waist and dragged her close again. “Kiss me, first.”
“Roman,” she pressed her palms against my chest and stared up at me with more love than I deserved, “I’ll kiss you first, last, and forever. Just say when.”
“Good.” My voice cracked. Her words soothed my ragged soul. “Because you’re my first, last, and forever.”
“Mine too.” She stroked my cheek. “Always.”

My Roman and Juliet...what a love story...and much like Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, these two fell in love as teenagers who pretty much had their lives controlled by others. Some sincerely had their best interests at heart, while others worked to derail their relationship as well as their HEA in life in general. I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy a book that was pretty much 50% about the young couple's early years, but in true AJL fashion, she engaged the reader with their emotional and heartbreaking backgrounds, while making their love story from start to finish, the main focus. I really enjoyed seeing Juliet gain strength and courage to go on, while Roman was always her (and everyone he cared about) protector. A wonderful story with a lot of interesting (and some familiar) characters along for the ride.

Beautiful story

I loved getting to know more characters, their back story, and get more details about Roman and Juliet's past. Every single book Autumn writes, she hits it out of the park!
Also, every book she writes has me adding to my book boyfriend list.
Roman is sweet, protective, loyal, and supportive. All the best qualities.
I can't wait to (hopefully) see more of their story in the future!!

Absolutely love Renegade Path! As a stand-alone (no cliff hanger) in Autumn Jones Lake’s Lost Kings MC series, it’s a perfect path to take whether entering this highly addictive world for the first time or for getting a deeper feel for many of the Lost Kings characters and stories. (The events in Renegade Path take place before the first book in the series, Slow Burn.) Juliet and Roman meet at the beginning of their junior year of high school and life throws a lot at them before they reach a very satisfying HEA a couple of years later. They both have their damage, but that just strengthens their bond as they become each other’s ride or die and one true love. Renegade Path is a roller coaster of emotion that will have you laughing, crying, angry at circumstances, cheering as Roman and Juliet find their way, and melting with love. It’s a sometimes rough world out there, but a great love story rises out of it.

Just when I didn’t think these books could get any better I am blown away. The love, dedication, and commitment these two characters have for one another is so beautiful. This book contained passion, heartache, love, struggles, and joy. How many stories can give you everything in one book and still be very good?

While reading I felt like I was watching them with my very own eyes. And I LOVED how we were able to see other members of the club pop up. Any scene involving Rock is my favorite. I’m glad we were able to get a small glimpse of his life before Hope.

5 ⭐️ I loved this book so much! Definitely one of my favourites in the LOKI universe 🥹

I loved meeting Roman “Vapor” & Juliet in After Burn and their story was better than anything I could have hoped for! We got to see the origin of their love story and all the tragedies they endured before they found their peace. At just seventeen years old they were two broken and battered souls who found home within each other. Through all the obstacles, injustices and heartbreaks they always clung tight to the love they shared and can’t be described as anything other than soulmates 🥺 As heartbreaking as some moments were, they’re just the sweetest couple and seeing how deeply their love ran was just beautiful. I loved how the epilogue tied in to their After Burn appearance and I can’t wait to see more of their happily ever after play out in the rest of the series 🤍

I loved seeing a few of Lost Kings brothers and the cheeky little Hope cameo but this book just made me fall in love with Dex even more than I already had! His relationship with Juliet was so heartwarming, the way he called her peanut 🥹 And I loved seeing the friendship blossom between him and Roman. Their banter was a lot of fun and the fact that he gave Vapor his road name was such a sweet touch ✨

As well as the origin of Roman’s love story with Juliet, we also got to see more of Griff and Eraser’s backstories. Their time in the castle was so sad but their friendship was the shining light. Eraser with his manifesting killed me 😂

Gotta give a special mention to Pip. He was the cutest little guy and he should be protected at all costs 🥰

AJL knocked this one out of the park! Can’t wait to jump back into the Lost Kings series and counting down the days to Dex’s book 😍

*3.5 stars

Didn't really enjoy this book besides the fact that I enjoyed Juliet as a character and actually felt like she deserved more than she got.

Roman... Pissed me off quite a bit, I felt like for someone who repeatedly thinks and says that Juliet was his priority he didn't show it when he was being stupid and honestly a bit selfish.

I know a lot of people love this book and their love story but I just felt like Juliet deserved better than Roman. He doesn't do anything horrible like cheat or hurt her in any way but I just felt like he was more worried about what other people thought than what he and Juliet needed.

I also felt like we got too much info on Roman and not enough on Juliet, it was heavily hinted at that her uncle abused her but we never got confirmation or even Roman finding out, it actually felt like he didn't care enough to find out.

To me this felt more like a book about Roman and his life and struggles than it did their romance and Juliet.

In the end would I recommend this book? Depends on what you prefer your books to be about.

(And yes I'm aware their story was originally a novella and was made into this book to have a deeper description and that it's a part of a series that I will not be reading, you don't need to read the series to understand)

I am in love

There is so much to love in his book. The characters, the love they share, and the beautiful way the story is written. Juliet's character is one of unconditional love for her man and Roman's is a cherishing love for his woman. A love that is clearly felt by the wonderful writing of Autumn Jones Lake. I loved how the author fleshed out the storyline and the characters from the original book, giving the reader a more in depth picture of their story to base all further reference of them in LOKI stories. I also liked how the characters of Dex , Murphy, Bricks, and especially Rock were weaved into the story. I have loved Autumn Jones Lake's books from the first read of Slow Burn. Seeing Rock and Dex's loneliness gives you a better foundation for Rock and Hope's relationship. It also has me yearning for Dex's book. Rock has been my first love in the LOKI stories but Roman is putting up a serious fight. If you like or love reading a book with a well thought out and written story, not perfect but loveable characters that share a love anyone would be lucky to have... this story and all the the others in the LOKI MC world are for you. Happy reading.

*****4.5 Star Review****

I honesty think Autumn could write no wrong. Every story stands on its own and you can't but hel[ fall in love with each character (or love to hate) and the world she builds. Renegade Path is an expanded version of her short story Knight of Swords with lots of great new material and more of everything we love about Autumn's writing.

Roman and Juliet's love story is heartbreakingly beautiful. They both have been through so much pain that their souls immediately recognized each other when they first meet. I just adored this couple and their fight for freedom, healing, and their love is everything I love in a story. You will laugh and cry with them as they do everything they can to not only survive but to carve out their own place in the world.

This book falls into Autumn's Lost King World, but this is a complete stand-alone and a great book to be introduced to this world and to get some back story on some amazing characters. Do yourself a favor and go grab this book, you won't be disappointed.

Renegade Path is a complete standalone, young adult romance set in the Lost King's MC world (before Slow Burn to be exact). It was originally published in the Cards of Love Series and titled Knight of Swords. Autumn really beefed up Roman and Juliet's story making it about double the length it originally was, which is awesome because I LOVE this couple! Plus we got waaaaaaay more Dex and a few small appearances from some of my fave Lost King's MC members (my boo Rock)!

Roman and Juliet are a prime example of soulmates. They found the kind of love that most people can only dream of, and at such a young age. Their journey was heart breaking and rocky with some intense moments that may cause triggers. But Autumn does balance things out with humor and some epic banter amongst the supporting characters. And she shows us how love always prevails. This is not the last we'll see of Roman and Juliet! As Autumn always states; "True love stories never end!"

For my first 2022 read, I am not regretting reading this book. This really was a book that brought me emotions and leaved me with wanting more. I loved how the authors use of words were a huge play with how Roman and Juliet interacted with one another.
Roman, a foster kid who had nothing but all protect and loved Juliet. Being strong and loyal to the one's around him for all they have done. I even loved how he was hard working and did all he can to give Juliet reassurance and not just depending on her. Even the way he was asking Juliet if this okay or if that was what she wanted, that just made me happy and loved him more. Juliet, she did all she could to help Roman out. She even was the first to accept Roman and actually loved him for who he was. Her past even revealed how she is very caring and worried much for others. These two had their highs and lows, their past affecting them but never stopping them from being together.
It made even cry a little in the end how everything turned the way they wanted and not having troubles again. Just a beautiful read that warmed my heart.

AJL does it again! Idk how she keeps all her characters fresh and different. I’ve read up to book 23 in the LOKI series and all the connecting books to the LOKI series. This book can be read as a standalone but would definitely be enriched if you know the LOKI family and their dynamics. It’s cool to read how the characters got together as kids and how they get connected to LOKI.

I loved this story so much. I usually don’t like high school stories but this didn’t read like YA. Definitely a love conquers all theme. The tragedy and hardships that they both endured were so real and heartbreaking. More so knowing that it really does happen in real life. I loved both characters and how fierce they were for each other. I don’t always like both the H & h in this series but I’m happy to say in this story I loved them both.

AJL is becoming one of my favorite authors. She doesn’t disappoint even if I don’t like a certain book I never hate it. I may not like a certain character here and there but the story and plot is always solid and keeps me engaged.

Autumn Jones Lake is one of my go to authors. I am falling more in love with her books every one I read. This one is about Roman and Juliet. Both of these have had very rough lives. He went from foster home to foster home finally landing in a foster care center attending yet another new school. Juliet lost everyone important to her and has to deal with her aunt and uncle who are mean and scary. It all starts when Roman tries to steal her locker. These two immediately hit it off and have some great chemistry. Juliet wants more from life and a happy future. She wants a family that she never got to have. Roman wants a life that is better than what he has now and a family as well. But will fate have more in store for them then they can handle. I absolutely loved this storyline and characters. You can easily fall in love with these two and the future they are fighting for. But hold on because it is one bumpy ride. Highly recommend reading this one.
