....boy, this whole "Bronte trilogy" (Bronte, After Mr Rochester, and Jane Eyre) by Teale was really disappointing. I wish I'd gotten these plays out of the library instead.

کتاب جین ایر نوشته شارلوت برونته
نثر روان و خوبی داشت ، داستان از زبان خود جین ایر بود ، دختری که از نوزادی فقیر بوده ،قرار شده پیش زن دایی اش نگه داری شود اما او خیلی بداخلاق بوده و اونو اذیت میکرده سرانجام بعد ۷ سال زندگی به مدرسه شبانه روزی لوود میره و اونجا رو هم با سختگیری های فراوان بعد ۷ سال ترک میکنه ، به خانه ای میره به عنوان معلم که صاحبش اقایی ۳۸ ساله ای بوده به نام اقای راچستر
بعد مدتی عاشق جین میشه ، اما زن دیوانه ای داشته که به اصرار پدرش و فریب خوردن او را گرفته در طبقه بالا نگه داری میشه ، سر انجام در روز عروسیش با جین متوجه موضوع میشه و اونجا رو ترک میکنه
یکسال در جایی معلم مدرسه میشه ، عمویی داشته که ثروتی داشته و به جین میرسه و در نهایت احساس میکنه که کارفرمایش او رو صدا میزنه ، به دنبالش میره و میبینه همسر دیوانه اش خونه رو اتیش زده و او هم یک دستش رو از دست داده و چشم هایش هم بینایی خیلی کمی دارند ، اما ازدواج میکنن ، بسیار هم همدیگه رو دوست دارن و صاحب فرزنذی هم میشن

At first I thought it was mediocre. And then I reread it and then reread it and imagined a fully-realised production of it (set not in the 1800s but in the years of the Great Depression) and now I’m utterly enchanted with it. Bertha I would die for you

A very interesting take on the original story, quite lovely in its own stylised way. Focuses mostly on the suppression of passion and sexuality, the control of religion, and the taboo of mental illness. Seems to have chosen only the darkest, most controversial themes from the novel. Definitely its own very particular interpretation, but still has a lot of theatrical potential, certainly in its descriptions of the characters' movements.

Compaction of theme is what separates this play from its predecessor. The novel is much more drawn out, and this play expresses a lot of the duality and character development in a shorter way. I liked it better for being more of an artful piece to the classic novel, even if it omits some important and interesting things.
