Another beautiful ending to a very well-written story. I cried. I did cry. Like I knew for the fact that this was going to end well, but it still made me cry nonetheless. Oh mannnnnnnnn, I got played so bad but I loved it so much. What a well-written scene that was. (Iykyk)
The first half of the book had me in a chokehold so bad I thought my veins were about to burst. The intensity, the anticipations. Everything was so stressful cause like why the hell were the antagonists so damn reckless and soooooooooooooooo freaking smart and strong? Like how did Ah-jie and Wen Zao survive that long with how they operated shit? HOW????? To be fair, I did like Wen Zao a little less, reading more about him. Ye, he was still the same psychopath I did kinda fall in love with but hm...I don't know how to explain it but he did fall a little flat to me. And his death wasn't that satisfying like the guy knew no pain at all. But. But the fact that Jiang Ting got his revenge was the sweetest feeling ever. The scene where he met his old coworkers and them leaving him in his dream had me sobbing. That was just simply beautiful. Yan Xie and Jiang Ting were both incredible main characters. Their povs brought me so much joy and although there really was not a lot of character development, I didn't think it was that important as the story focused heavily on the plot. I did want to know more about their pasts but eh, I was satisfied with what I got. The chemistry between them was overflowing and the dynamic in their relationship was just adorable. Though I did feel a bit bad for Jiang Ting cause Yan Xie was being so annoying(ly cute), but I'm sure he enjoyed it cause there was no one in this world who could compare to him in terms of การอวยแฟน. The action scenes were so intense though. Ye, it lost me from time to time as I had no ability to keep up with it much, but it was still so fun to read. Oh and ฉินชวน!! That sly son of a bitch, I loved him to death. His redemption arc was heroic as hell hahahah good for you man good for you. I loved the fact that he managed to escape and loved it even more knowing that he hadn't changed one bit. Ahhhhhh, I loved it.
The second half had me smiling so much my cheeks literally hurt. The planning, the wedding, oh what a joy that was. I adored the side characters sooooo much. Every single one of them was very dear to me. I fell in love with the dynamic in the police department from the very start. And I just loved how they all had a love/hate relationship with Yan Xie cause oh boi that boy was incredibly annoyingly good, wasn't he? Ah, they had my heart. There was no one in this story who I hated. Literally, I just loved them all, good or bad. And that deserved a hugeee round of applause cause normally, I'm so easily annoyed. But here? Ah. They were just too funny to hate. I mean ye, ah-jie did deserve my hate cause I was a bitttttt annoyed by him but that was all because he was too damn good at his job so he had my excuse.
Will definitely recommend this to my friends in the future cause if anyone is going to spend time reading a book series, this one is sooooo worth the time and money. I mean..before this, I never gave a shit about a crime fiction genre, much less a crime that revolved around drugs and stuff. I mean, if I'm going to read something in this genre, it better be gruesome. (I mean this was a bitt gruesome cause oh boi I felt bad for Wen Zhao's daddy but ykwim.) But now? Now I can't wait to read the other series by the same author cause she has me now. I'm a fan, girly, I'm a fannnn.
