I've said it before and I'll say it again...
Abbie Emmons knows how to craft a good story.
After closing the last page on 100 Days of Sunlight, I thought my journey with these two characters was over. Which was kinda sad.
Then Abbie announced this book.
I was literally squealing when I heard the news. And Abbie's writing does not disappoint. This is such a cozy, sweet read with all the Christmas vibes (is it too soon to listen to Christmas music?). I love the characters; Tessa repping us homeschoolers, Weston and his "obnoxious optimism" (him + his brothers =😍), Tessa's kind grandparents, Mrs. Ludovico, everyone.
Loved seeing this two characters grow more together, learn more about each other, and grow as individuals. Don't be surprised if you shed a few tears.

(content warning: this is a romance, so many kiss scenes, plus many uses of swear words)

I received an advanced copy of this delightful little book from the author and I wanted to thank her again. She’s a breath of fresh air with her wholesome story-telling. Like her debut novel, “100 Days of Sunlight,” this is a charming, innocent, fun book that continues the story of the characters from her debut novel as they plan their first Christmas together, only to have those plans complicated when Tessa’s estranged mom arrives for an unexpected visit. If memories of spending Christmases with family beside a warm fireplace, while drinking eggnog and watching “It’s a Wonderful Life” put a smile on your face, you’ll love this book.

I know. I'm in the minority here. But this is a sequel that, in my opinion, we could have definitely done without.

First, it had a new level of cringe that 100DoS didn't have. Tessa and Weston have turned into THAT couple in highschool. It feels like every page they're kissing, thinking about how hot the other person looks, and writing lovey dovey texts to each other. Definitely not my thing.

Next, knowing Abbie Emmons from her YouTube channel, Tessa is starting to feel like a borderline self-insert. Might just be my take, though.

Lastly, I really cannot get on board with this theme. This was the biggest thing that turned me off from the book. Cheesy romance, flat characters, and forced dialogue I can handle (hello, I've watched too many Hallmark movies to count), but this theme fell flat at best, and was distressing at worst. The audience is pointed to the idea that sometimes in life we have to do things that aren't fair, that life isn't fair, and we have to deal with things we shouldn't - like being a double amputee or forgiving the mom who abandoned you. But the problem is that these two things are not comparable in any regard. Weston is taking the moral high ground again, trying to tell Tessa how to live her life.
Now, in 100DoS, it worked because Weston had things to teach Tessa because he understood what she was going through. They were both dealing with disabilities, and Weston was trying to help Tessa make it through the other end like he had.
But being a double amputee is not the same as being abandoned by your mother your entire life. Yes, they are both hard things to deal with. But Weston tries to convince Tessa that SHE needs to be the one to try and fix the problem with her mom. Even though her mom hasn't even apologized. He asks her if Tessa ever called her mom or reached out to her. Like Tessa explains, she was a child! And because her mom never called, only visits once a year on Christmas Day, and didn't even show up when Tessa nearly died and went blind forever, as far as Tessa knows, her mom clearly doesn't want her! Showing up for a two week visit around Christmas doesn't change seventeen years of abandonment, especially if you don't even bother to apologize to your child.
But Weston tries to make it sound like Tessa should do the hard thing because she has to, just like he has to live with being an amputee and do the hard thing by staying positive. But those things aren't comparable. While I really hate to phrase it like this, when it comes down to it, it was Weston's fault and his choice that led him to losing his legs, while Tessa had no control over anything her mother ever did. Weston cannot understand what Tessa is going through and the problem is that he never even recognizes this. Instead, he takes the moral high ground and the book closes with "Tessa is wrong and Weston is right." Again.
Tessa has the opportunity to make things right with her mother, but she doesn't have the moral responsibility. That's on her mother. The mother that comes for a two week stay to fix the past seventeen years, and somehow forgets to even say sorry.

So, in conclusion, it's a hard pass for me.

I consumed this delight of a story in literally three days. THREE DAYS, you guys. I only do that when a book is TRULY AND ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. It was a beautiful, fluffy, but also heavy story in a good way. I don’t want to say too much because really you just need to go read the book. So, I’ll just say that Abbie totally nailed it with this book—I loved it even more than 100 Days of Sunlight.

What I Liked:

The realism of Tessa and Weston’s relationship. I’m really tired of reading romances that just…aren’t realistic? Or are way too realistic in ways that aren’t relatable??? I feel like this book found the perfect balance between portraying a realistic, teenage relationship, but not making it so real that it’s not an escape from real life. You know?

The Christmas aesthetic. I really haven’t read a lot of Christmas books, so this was absolutely delightful for me. Every Christmas activity and moment just had me snuggling into my couch deeper. It was so wonderful and I loved it.

What I Didn’t Like:

Tessa is dating someone who isn’t very religious. I know that Tessa doesn’t always seem like the strongest Christian, but she is definitely religious…which means she shouldn’t be dating someone who isn’t also a Christian. I don’t think that Weston is against Christianity, but I also wouldn’t say that he’s a Christian. So, I really have issues with Tessa dating someone who isn’t religious because that means she’s unequally yoked, which is something the Bible strongly warns Christians against. I really love the book, but I hate that this is sending the message that it’s fine to date someone who doesn’t share your religion because that really doesn’t set younger readers up to realize how important that is in a dating relationship.

Tessa and Weston’s inner dialogue was just…a lot. I’m all for giving your characters some inner dialogue and thoughts, but this book had so. much. inner. dialogue. Normally, I’m fine with it, but for some reason Tessa and Weston’s just didn’t really feel organic…it felt kind of forced and unnatural.

At the end of the day, it’s the perfect, fluffy, holiday book to cozy up with by the fireplace while drinking a nice cup of hot cocoa.

Content warning: Frequent cursing, kissing, making out (not graphic), mentions of pregnancy before marriage, and smoking.

Storms....I can't even say how much I loved this!!! Okay so 100 Days of Sunlight is one of my favorite books EVER!! And I had bee thinking lately how much I would love a sequel. Well waddya know, a couple weeks later I found out about this book!!! Then I had to wait months for the release date. So hard. And then!! I pre-ordered the paperback but Amazon is being lame and is holding my book hostage so I gave in and read the sample on Kindle....so obviously I had to buy the Kindle ebook. Totally worth it.

Oh. My. Lands. Tessa and Weston are my favorite couple ever!! They're so cute together. I love how they call each other Tes and Wes. Lol so cute...and that snowball fight in the beginning?? My heart melted. Alright maybe my heart was a melted puddle the whole time. Like a snowman in the sun (lol bad simile?). My heart did break just a little bit (a lot) throughout the middle.....but it's all good now :D this was such a perfect Christmas book!!! Christmas books are my favorite 😊😊 I'll have to read it again when I get my paper copy...and maybe again on Christmas Eve. I can already tell that this is a book I'll want to read every Christmas in addition to The Afterlife of Holly Chase :D

Ooh ooh and Tessa got Weston the book called "Make Your Bed" by Admiral William H McCraven. Seriously, that book is amazing. I love it so much. It has fantastic life lessons.

Sooooooo if you're still here, then why are you still here??? You should be reading these books!! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
-100 Days of Sunlight by Abbie Emmons
-THIS ONE⬆️⬆️⬆️ also by Abbie Emmons
-The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Holly Black
-Make Your Bed by Admiral William H McCraven

But most importantly, read Abbie's books 😊😊😊😊🎄🎄🎄🎄

*I was given a Pre-ARC e-copy in exchange for an honest review. These thoughts are my own.

Guys.

This book.

Abbie has created a book that feels like sitting in a comfy lounge chair near the Christmas tree with a cup of cocoa and a blanket wrapped snug around you.

Seeing as I read this in the final heat of the Texas summer, the Christmas vibes didn't have full effect for me but I know when I read a physical copy in the winter, it will be beautiful.

Abbie once again did an amazing job bringing her characters to life with plenty of intrigue and fun. Tessa's emotions concerning her mother and trying to have the best Christmas ever definitely felt realistic.

I loved the dog, also. Dogs are amazing!!

This book felt like Christmas and I'm so excited for another Abbie book to be out there in the world. Y'all are going to love it!

OH WOW.
First of all, I'm so honored to be a part of the ARC team and be able to read this book early!
Okay, I absolutely LOVED 100 Days of Sunlight, so I was so UNBELIEVABLY HAPPY when this book was announced. I read it so fast, and let me tell you: It is so incredibly AWESOME!
The relationship between Tessa and Weston is just BEAUTIFUL, and this heartwarming story is just what I needed. Their personalities are just so unique, and both their different internal conflicts clash to create this breathtaking book.
Abbie's stunning writing makes me (once again!) picture everything in such vivid detail, and causes me to fall in love with all of the characters. Top it off with the cozy Christmas setting and- voila! The best romance novel I have read in so long- maybe ever!
Thank you Abbie for being such a big inspiration for me and lots of others, and for writing such great stories. I love this book and recommend it (and 100 Days of Sunlight) to whoever is reading this! :)
Have a good day! Rock on. <3

My copy arrived yesterday, and I couldn't wait till Christmas. Sue me.

Also here's the cutest quote:
"You must be Laura," she says, reaching out to Weston's mom for a handshake. "I'm Michelle. And these must be your kids-I'm sorry, I can't remember their names."
"My son Weston," Mrs. Ludovico introduces us. "And Tessa isn't mine-not yet, anyway."

I'm going to preface this by saying that I like Abbie a lot. I follow her YouTube channel, participate in her livestreams and listen to her and Kate's podcast. I think she gives wonderful writing advice and has a real talent for teaching and inspiring others. After consuming her content online for over a year now, I decided to read both her published novels.

This book... I do have some positives. It's cute and feel-good and fluffy. Another reviewer said it was like a Hallmark Christmas movie and that's completely accurate. The addition of Tessa's mom arriving added a layer of external conflict that I felt lacked in 100 Days of Sunlight. I liked the interactions between Weston and his brothers, and Tessa and Weston's relationship is sickeningly sweet. Altogether, I saw a marked improvement in Abbie's prose compared to her debut novel and I'd like to commend her on that.

My biggest problem with this book, and I think it is a significant problem, I got to 3/4 of the way through and couldn't read on. I skimmed to see if this issue was amended in the final chapters but it wasn't. I believe this message could be potentially harmful and damaging.

Some other comments, this is more my opinion, but I wanted more drama. The moment where Weston introduces himself to Tessa's mother was embarrassing, but entertaining. I wanted more of that. Tessa's family is looking after and... nothing happens. Nothing goes wrong. I don't know, I wanted

I also wanted Tessa's mother to

All in all, I felt the biggest OMG moment happened fairly early on in the book, and it feels flat from then on.

Another small thing, but it's bugged me about this book and 100 Days of Sunlight. Why is Tessa home-schooled? She obviously has a positive view of it; did Tessa request to be home-schooled? Did she struggle learning in a normal school environment? Was it a choice that was made for her by her family? I understand Abbie was home-schooled and I assume wanted to show the positives of it through Tessa. As a reader, I was curious to learn more about this, but other than Tessa getting to sleep in once and telling us that home-school is great, there's nothing else. I don't really feel what Tessa's life is like. This book isn't really about that, but I would've appreciated those little details.
I also think, as Weston goes to school and half the girls there apparently have a big ol' crush on him, this could've been utilised as a source of conflict between Weston and Tessa. And now I've realised it, I have to point it out. I find myself wondering why the scenes Weston have in school matter to the story?

Finally, Tessa's grandparents still feel like cardboard cut-outs. It bugged me about the first book, but here it was more obvious as this story is about Tessa's family. Even answering the question in the previous paragraph about home-school could've given us insight into their character and motivations. Do they want Tessa home-schooled because they really value family time? Do they want it because they want Tessa to be independent and it's what she wants? It is convenient for them to have Tessa home-schooled, or is it more of a challenge?
I also wanted a little detail that showed how aware Tessa is of the sacrifice her grandparents have given to raise her. For example, her grandad suffers a little more climbing the stairs than he used to, and it hits home to Tessa that he is getting old. Or her grandma has a friend whose bought a nice little retirement place in Florida and gets to visit all the time and even though her grandma is sweet about it, Tessa can tell she is jealous. She wonders if she is disrupting her grandparents retirement. Just, you know, those little character details that Abbie is clearly very capable of doing for Tessa and Weston. A personal thing perhaps, but I would've liked to see them for other characters.

I've given this book two stars. I really want to give it more, but I can't given how harmful I think the overall message could be. If you do happen to read this Abbie, I thank you. I hope you see the time I've put into this review reflects the respect I have for you as a person and as a writer and I truly want to see you succeed and improve.

This was a great bonus YA holiday story featuring Tessa and Weston from 100 days of sunlight. Picking up where the original story left off we get to see Tessa and Weston enjoying the holidays, trying to figure out what to give each other for Christmas while Tessa is also dealing with the extra stress having her estranged mother come home unexpectedly. Great on audio narrated by the author, this had all the same charm as the original. I really love these characters and the disability rep in this book (both of Weston's legs are amputated).

Okay, no no no no no.
I am not happy about having to say this but this was the worst thing you could have done for these characters.

(vague hints that might be considered spoilers to some people so keep that in mind before you read on)

In my review of 100 Days Without Sunlight I mentioned that I was irked by the "formula" of having drama near the end of the book. The only blessing was that it was really short and quickly resolved.

So why the hell did you have to write an ENTIRE book dedicated to the WORST part of contemporary romance books?

Look. I see the reviews. I am clearly in the minority. And since I looked up to Abbie, having to leave a bad review just leaves a foul aftertaste in my mouth. Or well, fingers since I am typing.

But I got to speak my truth here and this was not nice. At all.

Not only was this book 90% drama and 10% cliché romance (which isn't always a bad thing, but combined with that much drama sorry yeah it is)...
But it infuriated me.

I started to dislike the characters. While in the first book I went from not caring about them to kind of liking them.
And now you make me dislike them.
And I am upset.

Weston has NO RIGHT to act the way he does. The things he is saying about how Tessa treats her mom and all like... My dude did you live Tessa's life? No. You did not. Who ARE YOU to tell her to just forgive all because her mom is "trying"... So what? That doesn't excuseー grrrrr.
Situations like these cannot be forgiven in a what... Two week period? Not only that but Tessa has THE RIGHT to be angry. She has things to work through.

And then how he is indeed clearly on her mom's side. Like... You have no right to be angry at how Tessa handles this and especially no right to tell her how she SHOULD handle it.

Regardless... Tessa ALSO got on my nerves. She's so moody and snappy about everything. I partly forgive her because like I said she is going through some difficult things, but that didn't make it less annoying.

Their constant bickering, and problem seeking and overthinking every little thing made me go crazy.

I also think all the problems are resolved way too easily... Like it felt unrealistic. I rolled my eyes multiple times.

I listened to the audiobook (nice performance though) and kept checking how long until this hell is over.

And I am sad it had to come to this. This is a hard no from me.

I read Abbie's first book, 100 Days of Sunlight, because I found her YouTube channel and binged her content instead of watching TV.

Reading an author's debut novel usually has some points in it that don't always hit the nail on the head. I loved 100DoS even with the small details that I thought could have been improved, but the talent, time, and confidence it takes to write and publish your debut novel on your own totally outshines those little details.

I have to say, I wasn't expecting her next book to be a continuation of the story and I love that it was!

While this novel has less intense of a conflict than 100DoS, the conflict perfectly matches where the characters are in the moment and their growth from the first book. You get the opportunity to watch these young lovebirds navigate the world outside of the bubble that 100DoS provided. What their relationship looks like after Tessa's blindness is resolved and it's the cutest thing ever. The conflict presented by her mother showing up for Christmas is just enough to build tension in the story altogether, as well as within Tessa and Weston's relationship.

Reading this book took me back to my first relationship when I wasn't sure about how anything worked and was desperate to make it happen. (Lucky for Tessa and Weston they are a lot better fit for each other than me and my first boyfriend were ;D)

In terms of Abbie's writing, it's really great that she chose to continue this story. Going from 100DoS into this novel you can see her make a huge step into being a more confident writer. Every one of the small details that I thought could be better in her first novel were massively improved. This novel strengthens the characters' voices and dives deep into the internal conflict. It brings the characters and the world to life in both a relatable and unique way and makes it all feel totally real. Rather than reading a book, it feels like checking in with some friends.

I am honored to have been asked to be a part of her ARC team for this novel's release and I can tell you with full honesty, if you liked 100 Days of Sunlight, you will LOVE this book. I know I did.

Ech…

This book was so sweet it gave me a toothache… and I loved every minute of it! 💜

Tessa and Weston: The Best Christmas Ever picks up 3 months after the events of Abbie Emmons’ debut novel, 100 Days of Sunlight. Although our two MCs have been dating for a while now, the reality of what it means to truly love another person has just begun to bubble to the surface in this cozy, hard-to-put-down, holiday sequel.

Weston and Tessa are still very much in the throes of euphoria. Every moment apart they’re anxiously awaiting their next meet-up and every moment together, they’re attached like packing peanuts to your favorite fuzzy holiday sweater. The infatuation is palpable. And who could blame them? Weston, a boy of 17 is every teenage girl’s dream boyfriend. He’s athletic, charismatic, sensitive and witty… plus he apparently smells as delicious as he looks. What girl wouldn’t want to devour this boy? And Tessa, with her striking blue eyes and golden, strawberry scented hair is, by all accounts, equally adorable. It’s a whirlwind, high school romance on steroids.

Steamy (PG-rated) make-out sessions aside, this book packs an emotional punch that hits closer to home than I expected. When Tessa’s “only here for the holidays” mom shows up ahead of schedule, things get complicated. Initially burying her head in the proverbial sand, Tessa attempts to evade spending time with her mom and instead focus on making her first Christmas with Weston as picturesque as possible. However, the blowback from her charade only succeeds in making matters worse for everyone involved. This storyline in particular resonated with me as I know, first-hand what it’s like to want to hide from the unpleasant, complex feelings you have towards an absentee parent. Though Emmons admittedly comes from a nearly prefect upbringing with two, loving parents, she pens this gut-wrenching narrative as though she’s lived it herself. It’s quite impressive.

Abbie’s ability to create tangible, atmospheric scenes using the most abridged descriptions made this a delightfully immersive read. Her writing style is not only smile inducing but it’s the kind that will have you reading well past your bedtime. I found myself doubling back over certain passages solely for the purpose of savoring the particularly well-crafted bits (something I did more than a few times because her writing is just that yummy). Although this book is technically a sequel to 100 Days of Sunlight, you won’t feel lost diving into this one blindly (no pun intended 😉) since Emmons does an excellent job of referencing vital story beats from her previous book where necessary.

If you’re looking for a sweet, heartfelt holiday read, look no further. This one will have you laughing, crying and clamoring for more from the always inspiring and insightful, Abbie Emmons!

* I was given an advanced reader copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest, unbiased review. Other compensation came only in the form of pure joy and satisfaction — the unavoidable byproducts of reading this truly enchanting novel.

I read this book in one sitting, just like I did with 100 Days of Sunlight. 100 Days of Sunlight was a beautiful novel, and although I wasn't expecting a sequel, I was very excited to hear that we were getting one.

This book is SO cozy, with a beautiful Christmas atmosphere and the same masterful character work as 100 Days of Sunlight. Tessa and Weston still felt like themselves, so it truly felt like stepping back into the world of the original novel. This book was everything I could have asked for in a sequel. The witty banter, the Hallmark-esque moments, and Abbie's signature gripping internal conflict made me fall in love with the characters all over again.

From page one, all the way to the end, it was a fantastic story with beautiful themes. I recommend it to any fans of 100 Days of Sunlight, or anyone who is searching for that perfect, wholesome, feel-good Christmas story to read while curling up by the fire. This is definitely going to be a yearly read for me, one of those books that I break out every winter to get me in the Christmas spirit.

How much more can a book exceed your expectations? I fell in love with the "100 DAYS OF SUNLIGHT" so I knew I would love this one, too. And I was right!! It made me smile and laugh from first page to last. So enjoyable with bits of happiness popping up from every page that leaves you overflowing with a sense of refreshing comfort and utter joy!

This book is so uplifting I was engrossed from page one and it stirred my heart as to anticipate Christmas like never before! 🎄❄️🌨️

„– Chciałam, tylko żebyś była szczęśliwa – szepcze mama.”
Nowelka powraca do Tessy i Westona ze „100 dni słońca” Abbie Emmons. Jest grudzień, Tessa i Weston mają nadzieję, że będą to ich najlepsze święta. Jednak nie wszystko idzie do końca zgodnie z planem. Z dnia na dzień pojawia się matka Tessy, która planuje zostać na dwa tygodnie. A dziewczyna nadal czuje do niej urazę.
Pokochałam „100 dni słońca” i teraz „Tessa & Weston najlepsze święta ever”.
„– Dlaczego w ogóle musiałeś ją zachęcać, by tu przyszła? Wcale nie chciała iść.

– Owszem, chciała. Myślała tylko, że ty tego nie chcesz.

– Może i nie chciałam.

– Dlaczego?

– Bo tak! – warczy Tessa, a jej oczy płoną gniewem.

– Tessa urywa, a potem odwraca wzrok i kręci głową.

To świąteczna opowieść Tessy i Westona, bohaterów mojego ukochanego "100 dni słońca". Zaczynamy przygodę od połowy grudnia (11.12), by do końca Świąt (25.12) przeżywać z Tessą jej najlepsze i niestety najgorsze momenty.

"Tessa i Weston.
