Becoming a parent can be daunting . . . terrifying, in fact.
This is especially true for dads. Where’s the road map? Well, you’re looking at it. This book from the editors of Fatherly, the largest digital brand for dads, is a one-stop source for fathers-to-be, empowering them to be the best parent they can be--with both confidence and joy.
New fathers grapple with both practical and existential Is my baby supposed to do that? How do I afford to make my family thrive? How does swaddling work again? Who am I, and what kind of dad will I become?
Fatherhood is here to answer all of these questions and more.
This comprehensive guide walks fathers through everything they need to know--practically, emotionally, and philosophically--over the course of the first year of a baby’s life.
The content is divided by developmental
Pregnancy up to birthInfancy (the first 500 days)Toddlerhood (days 500 to 1,000)By offering data, anecdotes, and expert-driven analysis, the authors prep dads for what’s ahead, letting them know they’re not alone on their journey.
Fatherhood is the book every father and father-to-be needs.
A common sense approach to FATHERHOOD that’s well organized, easy to read and has most everything a father would want and need to know.
Guys, or interested gals, are going to find this book is very different from the usual effusive parenting book. This one does have some humor that’s targeted towards the guys, but it’s a fact based, short attention span primer on all things father related.
To facilitate the most important information the editors used grey boxes marked NEED TO KNOW. These are placed regularly throughout the entire text. To help with functions that require manual or mild technical skills, (swaddling, diapering, holding techniques, etc.), there are black and white line drawings with arrows and numbers for guidance. These should appeal to the “don’t read directions” types. Artwork at the beginning of each section should garner a few chuckles.
An excellent Table of Contents will make it easy to lookup specific subjects and to go back for refreshers. You don’t need to read this book in order as written for it to make sense or be useful. Endnotes are broken down by chapter and appear together at the end of the book. Also included are blank, but titled lined pages for readers to fill in the information suggested throughout the text. For those who like to take notes while reading, there is adequate space to do so. Highlighters might want to use a light marker as the paper is a bit on the porous side.
All things considered, a good resource for those entering FATHERHOOD, definitely giftable📚
Reading this as a dad to be. I appreciated the historical info on some topics (pain management during pregnancy) and the blunt humor delivered in others. I found it comprehensive and insightful with anecdotes and tidbits that start conversations that relieve anxiety and help me connect more with my spouse.
Out of the dad books I've read, this is by far my favorite.
I’d picked up this book because I wanted to get it before recommending it to the husband of an expecting friend. I was hoping to find something that was informative, interesting, and practical. While it was all those things, it was also a little too heady and academic at times for a father-to-be who may not have all the time in the world to read about the anthropological, historical, biological origins of certain parenting practices.
Abandoned at 36%, but I may pick it up again if I need an interesting, but not-too-exciting read at bedtime.
I appreciated the books approach to target the male perspective. Utilizes classic and modern scientific studies while helping reduce the anxieties that can come from info hunting on the Internet. Covers all topics, from talking to your pregnant wife all the way to discipline. Highly recommend!
I attempted to finish this book before baby was born but couldn’t make it. Nonetheless, there are great tips/reminders for fathers that really helps make it easier to approach fatherhood. As a first time parent, this provided great guidance even for after baby is born.
This collection of essays from the editors of Fatherly have created a valuable resource, especially for fathers from atypical upbringings. Chalked full of insight, advice, and humor, this is the perfect read to help any clueless individual feel like they have what it takes to step into Fatherhood.
Very helpful and interesting in fits and spurts but could have benefited from a better editor. The order of things never quite made sense. Just as I was getting into the last section, the book abruptly ended.
This was a really good guide through the stages of fatherhood. Lots of good insights into things to pay attention to. I also appreciate the authors' efforts to avoid dictating certain actions. Instead, they provide things to consider and when to seek help.
One of the best parenting books for men. While at times casual and some slight jokes, it takes the idea of fatherhood seriously and helps make sense of several theories around raising a child.
I'm truly thankful to find a dad book that doesn't talk to me like I'm a bro.
