ആദ്യമായാണ് ഇത്തരമൊരു കൃതി ഞാൻ വായിക്കുന്നത്. മോസ് വർഗ്ഗീസ് എന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരൻ്റെ ആദ്യപുസ്തകം ആണിതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കുന്നില്ല. ശ്രീലങ്കയിലെ കൊളംബോയിൽ നിന്ന് തുടങ്ങുന്ന കഥ പതിയെ മൂന്നാറിലേക്ക് എത്തുന്നു. കേന്ദ്രകഥാപാത്രമായ ഫെർണാണ്ടോയുടെ ചിന്തകൾക്കും സ്വപ്നങ്ങൾക്കും ജീവിതത്തിനും ഒപ്പം വായനക്കാരും സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നു. പല ദിവസങ്ങളിലും സ്വപ്നങ്ങൾ കണ്ട് കടൽത്തീരത്ത് നഗ്നനായി ഉറക്കമുണരുന്ന ഫെർണാണ്ടോക്ക് സ്വപ്നവും യാഥാർത്ഥ്യവും വേർതിരിച്ചറിയാൻ പലപ്പോഴും സാധിക്കുന്നില്ല. ഫെർണാണ്ടോയോടൊപ്പം നമ്മളും ഇതേ ആശയക്കുഴപ്പത്തിൽ പലപ്പോഴും അകപ്പെടുന്നു.
ശ്രീലങ്കയിലെ പ്രശസ്തനായ ഒരു ഷെഫ് ആണ് ഫെർണാണ്ടോ. അയാളുടെ പാചകവൈദഗ്ധ്യം കേട്ടറിഞ്ഞ് പലയിടങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ആളുകൾ അയാളെ സമീപിക്കാറുണ്ട്. അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെ, ഒരിക്കൽ വിശ്വനാഥൻ എന്നൊരാൾ കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്നും അയാളെ വിളിക്കുകയും വൻതുക അയാൾക്ക് ഓഫർ ചെയ്യുകയും തുടർന്ന് അയാൾ മൂന്നാറിലേക്ക് പുറപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. വിശ്വനാഥൻ അടക്കം അയാളുടെ അളിയനായ രവിയും സുഹൃത്തുക്കളായ ചാക്കോ, സക്കറിയ, അവറാച്ചൻ, പിന്നെയൊരു സായിപ്പ് എന്നിവർ ചേർന്ന് മൂന്നാറിൽ ഒരു ഫാം ഹൗസ് നോക്കി നടത്തുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇവരുടെ ഒത്തുകൂടലിൻ്റെ ആവശ്യത്തിനായിട്ടാണ് ഫെർണാണ്ടോയേ കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നത്. ഫെർണാണ്ടോ അവിടെ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നത് മുതൽ അങ്ങോട്ട് കഥ പോകുന്നത് നമ്മളൊരിക്കൽ പോലും പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കാത്ത വഴിത്തിരിവുകളിലൂടെയാണ്.
അവിടത്തെ മണിമല സിറ്റിയുടെ പ്രണയവും സൗഹൃദവും പ്രതികാരവും നിറഞ്ഞ ചരിത്രത്തിലേക്കും മിത്തുകളിലേക്കും അന്ധവിശ്വാസങ്ങളിലേക്കും വെച്ചാരാധനകളിലേക്കും എല്ലാം കടന്നുചെല്ലുന്ന കഥ കുറച്ചുനാളുകൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് കേരളം നടുക്കത്തോടെ നോക്കിക്കണ്ട, വാർത്തകളിലൂടെ അറിഞ്ഞ ചില സംഭവങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും പ്രതിപാദിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. പുസ്തകം ഇറങ്ങിയ സമയം കേരളത്തെ നടുക്കിയ ആ സംഭവങ്ങൾ അരങ്ങേറുന്നതിനും മുമ്പായിരുന്നു. ആ ഒരു സമയത്ത് ഈ പുസ്തകം വായിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കാതെ പോയതിൽ ചെറിയൊരു വിഷമമുണ്ട്. വായനക്കാരെ ഒരിക്കൽ പോലും നിരാശപ്പെടുത്താത്ത, വേറിട്ടൊരു വായനാനുഭവം നൽകാൻ ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിന് സാധിക്കും എന്നതിൽ സംശയമില്ല. എഴുത്തുകാരൻ്റെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ പുസ്തകമായ "സോങ്സ് ഓഫ് ഗബ്രിയേൽ" കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയിട്ട് അധികദിവസം ആയില്ല. "ഇസഹാക്കിൻ്റെ വിരുന്ന്" പോലെയോ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ അതിനേക്കാൾ മുകളിലോ ഇനിയും ഒരുപാട് പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ എഴുതാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് സാധിക്കട്ടെ.

I've known Moze from my schooldays as a simple straightforward chap who used to be real good at football. We've had fairly less conversations during the school years but like all crossroads that we come across incidentally, in a quite fortuitous turn of events, I noticed his skills in penning down gripping thriller short stories on FB, about a year ago. My curious messages to him were stemmed out of the surprise and excitement of finding a gem of a short story writer in a guy whom I've never seen appear in any of the school fest events. Later through our conversations I got to know that he possessed far more depth and clarity as to the path he'd taken up and not only was he talented, but like in the iceberg phenomenon, it was one that was carefully curetted out with years of research and reading. When he first told me that his book was releasing, I couldn't contain my happiness at the thought of holding and reading a book that was written by someone I knew personally.
Dear Moze, it's been a beautiful experience reading your work although I received the copy a little too late owing to my current location. But I must say, even through my busy working hours, I couldn't stop reading it and I finished the entire book in three days, because it turned out to be a page turner that you promised it would be. The detailing in all the dark themes and the characters, including their medical condition or their profession, points once again to the amount of research and hard work you've put into making your debut stand out. I was not disappointed as a reader and I humbly request everyone to give this book a goodread for it portrays the insensitivity, melancholy, courage and fortitude we all display as individuals at various stages of our lives depending upon what we are surrounded with. A thumbs-up to this thriller and a warm greeting to all your future works. May your spirit in the literary world be invincible.

I am not an avid reader and usually takes some time to finish a book. When I got hands on this book i thought I will read some chapters and continue later. But it really hooked me to the world of Fernando after a few pages, stating it as simply "thrilling" or "page turner" would be an understatement. The way in which each scene described takes us to that place and the narration slowly immerse in to a new experience. Before I knew I had already finished half the book and this is the fastest book i have completed til now. Very good read and wishing the best for the author on his next works.

Kudos to the debutant novelist Moze Vargheese for trying out something dark and daring. This well-written book is undoubtedly a refreshing change from few of the mediocre thrillers Malayalam Literature has been churning out lately under the garb of popular fiction.
The novel begins at an unhurried pace slowly gathering steam in the second phase. It is heartening to note that the novelist has not resorted to any gimmickry in the early portions to grab the viewer's attention. The surprise elements in the narrative were well concealed. Though the climactic portions are not for the faint-hearted, it certainly makes for an intense reading experience.
There is no dearth of conflict in this ambitious novel laced with intrigue. Moze's exemplary writing style has the power to transport you to the place of action.
If you dearly wish to read something far removed from the mainstream, then give this one a chance. I am already waiting for the writer's next.

June 26, 2024Cliche break ചെയ്യാനായി കൊണ്ടുവന്ന Twist തന്നെയായിരിക്കും ഈ നോവലിൻ്റെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ പോസിറ്റീവും നെഗറ്റീവും. Personally ഇത്തരം Violent സംഗതികളോട് താൽപര്യമില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ വളരെയേറെ ആവേശത്തോടെ പോയിരുന്ന വായന switch ഇട്ടതുപോലെ ഒരു particular പോയിൻ്റിൽ off ആയി. നോൺ ലോലഹൃദയർക്ക് എന്തായാലും ഒരു കൈ നോക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.

Fernando is a renowned chef in Colombo struggling with mental illnesses who finds balance in his passion for cooking and love for his wife. His life takes a dark turn upon accepting an offer with an unusually larger pay to cook at a reunion party which occurs in the same place in Kerala where he grew up and escaped.
For almost half of the book, it takes its time to brew the mystery but after 100 pages it is fast paced, gripping and a real page turner. This book has magical and supernatural elements of intense and horror filled descriptions. It is suspenseful and stunning with raw imagery, wild and unsettling. I have never read anything in Malayalam with such haunting elements. This is a debut novel by Moze and a bold attempt too which I am sure will be an unforgettable experience to the reader.

What a wonderful book! At the beginning, it really didn't grip me much but later from a point the book really changed its behaviour and captured me filling me with the intrinsic need to know what happens next. It is really a heart gripping as well as a thrilling one.
