Jilted lovers, cheating spouses, treacherous business partners...
All bread and butter that pays the bills for this dysfunctional Investigation team.
Unfortunately, the past is catching up with one of them. Vengeance with a capital V is as rare as it is dangerous and doesn't pay.
Except that is what both of them want.
What choice do they have when a federal agent promises to turn the pair into his personal sock puppets if they don't comply with his game?
Going undercover amongst the great and greasy of the city, things move from unprofitable to... well complicated.
From handsy swingers to dark intrigues to hidden criminal conspiracies across the various threads that hold society together is often more trouble than it's worth.
But for a chance at revenge, is any price too high?
Pain and Agony are once more caught between scumbags and a son of a bitch.
Will their plans work?
Hard to tell. But their exit strategy is guaranteed to be gratuitously violent.
Occasionally at each other, more often against their enemies.
Shenanigans, shameful behavior, and a shower of brass shells should be expected when a "subtle infiltration" is left up to Pain and Agony.
But hey, if violence gets the job done and is fun along the way, what should the fed agent complain about?
Brilliant: Michael Anderle does it again! I have just read the first 3 books in the Pain and Agony series. Great the way Michael has fun with the names of the main characters; their ‘fraught’ relationship leads to some fun dialogue as they develop trust (? - maybe). There are some fairly insightful passages, sprinkled with a healthy dose of cynicism. An excellent ‘Must Read ’ - I’m hanging out for book 4.
Guns and Attitude (book three) is completely tongue in cheek. The banter between Alicia Goni and M. Payne runs simultaneously with almost nonstop action.
Pain and Agony are growing on me. One is feisty, while the other seasoned main character is searching for redemption. They manage to get ambushed and survive multiple times in each episode. I’ll bite and move on to book 4.
P & A find themselves as pawns in chess games that put them amidst players with more power than they have and on the outs with landlady and investor ‘AJ’. The home team has to face betrayal coming from too many directions at once, a couple of places they wouldn’t choose to go voluntarily and the indignity of the homeless sneering at their possessions. Oh no! How will the dynamic duo ever balance the scales with all that going on?!?! Rating: 4.25stars
Not sure if the series starred this year (2021) or not but '21 is when I started reading it and it is the one at the top of my reading chart on each release.
I am really loving this series and the crazy antics the main characters get into. There is always a ton of action, and the universe is slowly being built out into somewhere interesting to visit. I recommend this series and this book.
You never know what Pain and Agony will end up doing. Special Agent Buchanan has a plan to use them to find out what is going on at the lodge. What will they find?
Very good character development with primary and secondary players. Interesting storyline that is woven carefully. Recommended reading for a rainy day.
