Ashan must find strength from more than his cycle to stop the king.
Ashan has saved his homeland, but the threat from the king--along with Ashan's mentor--remains. The price for saving Berestal was high. His once recovered brother is now debilitated again, while his sister struggles to connect to Affelah, leaving Ashan to wonder what path he should take.
When the king threatens the Wilds, Ashan must discover the truth of a land long ignored, as it might be the key to stopping the king and the spread of the dangerous power of the murtar. He must discover more than the cycle of dragons and the power of Affelah to find the power of the true Servant before all is lost.
I liked this series and needed to read to the end to see how it ended. However, I found it extremely hard to read because of the errors, disjointed sentences, and the use of 'he' when 'I' should have been used. If writing in the first person it's very important to make sure the story stays in the first person, otherwise, the story gets very confusing. This book series needs to be edited at least once, and I would advise using a grammar program if it's not going to be edited. This series could have been a great series otherwise.
One star is for the story concept, the writing deserves a half star. I really wanted to finish the series, to know how the story ends but I just couldn’t stand the repetition another moment. Every paragraph, and often every other sentence repeats the foundational concepts of the series. For the sake of your readers, hire an editor and stop using repetition to turn a short story into a 5 book series. Terrible. Beyond terrible.
The series started out ok and I kept coming back for the next book but I had a hard time reading this final book. The main character kept going back and forth about what he was and what he connected to. I almost stopped reading at the beginning of this book but I had invested too much already. Don’t waste your time.
I love DK Holmberg's works but was disappointed in this series. The storyline is interesting and I enjoyed it. However, there were so many errors that they created clarity issues: wrong pronouns (she became he became they), omitted/missing words, redundancies (this should have been a trilogy), etc. I had to backtrack a few times to figure out what was going on, and I had to skip parts that were wallowing in redundancies. Very disappointed and wouldn't have expected this from such a good writer. 😞
I enjoyed reading this series, watching as Ashan grew and learned about his connection to the world. However, as a lot of other people have pointed out, you could read 3 pages and it would most likely include some variant of he reached for x power but couldn't do it on all of those pages, which can pull you out of the story as you try to figure out if you even changed pages. Plus, the ending is as much of a cliffhanger as Netflix does for most of its shows.
I have read the whole series and was very disappointed. There was so much filler in each book that was so unnecessary. Every time the hero was faced with a power situation the same doubts were repeated over and over again, to the point where I had to walk away from the story for awhile. I got the impression that this was used to fill out the required pages to make a book. It would have been so much better if the author had fleshed out the characters more and made one or two books instead of six.
This story is so Very good in so many ways-all my reviews of the books support that. I just feel this was an early book in the writers career, and they need to pull from the market and rework it and edit it with smarts. The ending seems a little rushed in this last book as well, with a few things unanswered. Hope things are changed.
Excellent book traveling through different lands and encountering fascinating creatures. Some parts we a bit too detailed and I skimmed those parts. But over all, it was a page turner.
Wonderful fantasy world with unique powers and exciting storyline. But very repetitive with the inner monologue about how he needs to understand over and over and over again. Otherwise, good series !
I started into this series slowly but gradually got so into Ashan that I couldn't put the book down. Wish the series could go on but realize that wouldn't fit it with the story.
I really enjoyed this story line, I really would of like to seen his heredity before the end of the book , with being said I really enjoyed this series
I loved the first 2 books in this series but found the last ones were harder to read. The search for power to help the world started to seem a bit like a religious quest. I did enjoy the book. It it is not one I would reread
