Rate this book
Will the U.S. go to war with China over Taiwan or oil? Yes-bestselling authors Ed Timperlake and Jed Babbin say Chinese aggression is virtually inevitable and in their new book, "Showdown", they address the threat of mainland China and Bush's promise to defend Taiwan - at any cost. "Showdown" offers indispensable strategies and tactics for the U.S. to respond to the Chinese military threat in this ongoing battle for democracy and freedom.

The book is mostly just a collection of very hypothetical scenarios that border a Cold War sci-fi thriller. The hypothetical situations demonstrate a very clear lack of understanding of what became of modern international politics much less combat. The last chapter which was not a scenario was probably the only rational part of the book, but even then it still missed the mark in my opinion. But it should be taken with a grain of salt that the book was published in the mid-2000s, but it’s sort of interesting how it managed to basically get everything wrong about how the future turned out.
