Trouble for Hire #3

Jinx, You're It

Rate this book
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cynthia Eden brings a red-hot tale of second chance romance between two unlikely lovers.

Life is too short not to have one hell of a good time.

Jinx lives for his good times. With a ready smile and quick joke, his charm carries him through most rough situations. And when his grin doesn’t work, he just uses the down and dirty skills he acquired working Special Forces to get the job done. Life is easy, his luck is perfect, and nothing will slow him down. Except maybe…her.

It was a one-night stand she should forget.

Allison “Ali” Carter does not have time for handsome playboys—not even the ones with killer blue eyes and abs that last for days. Sure, she might have given in just one time and let her desire for Jinx take over, but she is not about to repeat that mistake, no matter how great the night was. She’s down on the Gulf Coast for a week of sun and relaxation. Jinx isn’t part of the plan.

Until he is the only plan.

Trouble has followed Ali down to the coast. On her last classified mission, she acquired a most dangerous stalker. The kind of guy that you can’t ditch, no matter how hard you try. The kind of guy who can scare a woman to death. And to help Ali deal with him? A most unlikely hero offers up his services.

He wants his second chance.

When Ali walked away from Jinx, it shouldn’t have hurt. He should have forgotten her and moved on. But since that fateful night, she’s been in his head. Been tormenting his dreams. So when she appears in his PI office and she’s in danger? Jinx immediately leaps into action. He’ll show Ali that he’s more than just a fast grin. This time, it’s not about being lucky. This time, it’s about protecting Ali and maybe, just maybe…winning her heart.

Author’s Note: Jinx is about to get lucky. He’s getting a second chance with the woman who slipped through his fingers, and he isn’t about to let her vanish again. Ali thinks he doesn’t take life seriously, and she may just be right. But, when it comes to Ali’s safety, Jinx will go all in to prove that he’s the man she needs. Danger doesn’t scare him. Behind his grin, he’s ice cold and willing to do whatever it takes to protect the one woman who slipped past his guard. Action, romance, danger, and fun are waiting in JINX, YOU’RE IT. (Stand-alone read, guaranteed happy ending!)

A protective heroine, an even more protective hero, a stalker and some good times! Jinx is all about Ali. Ali is all about keeping Jinx out of her troubles, he just won't let her. Who doesn't love a super protective and persistent hero???

This is a fun series. The suspense isn't predictable. The characters throughout are just as entertaining as the main characters. And the main couples are alway funs even in tense times. Up next...Ramsey and Whitney.

I love how this author always utilizes her characters’ histories and fully develops their personalities on page rather than leaving them one dimensional. She proves it once more with Jinx and Ali. Ali was such a unique heroine with her background and career, she was perfect for Jinx.

description

As always, this hero fits into everything I love about the main character. Protective, possessive, jealous when the occasion arises and determined to make and keep her as his own.

”I am a f---ing lying bas--rd, you know that - but I am a bas--rd who is loyal to you. If it means you are protected, I will lie, steal, cheat, or kill in an instant.”

He’s also more than he appears on the surface. Getting to know the real Jinx was a journey only one woman could travel and even then he had a bit of a struggle. I loved every part of him.

description

This is one scorching thrill ride with twists and turns that kept me engaged each step of the way. If this is what it’s like to get jinxed, then sign me up...I need to be Jinxed!

description

Getting more from the Trouble for Hire group added moments that had me grinning from ear to ear. And we also meet Jinx’s brother Ramsey. His story is next and I suspect we’re going to have a whole lot of alpha overload with him and his lady. I can’t wait!

This can be read as a standalone although all the Trouble guys are worth checking out.

1.5 🌟 rounded up

Jinx (H) and Ali (h) had a ONS six months ago, and then she disappeared. They’ve been working together on a super secret black ops team for years, but had resisted their feelings for each other until that one explosive night. Now, Ali has turned up again and she’s in trouble. Who better to help than Jinx?

I had to skim through most of this because they just kept talking in circles. The same crap over and over again. There was very little development in their relationship and I didn’t particularly like them together.

What really annoyed me about this was the fact that Ali and Jinx had supposedly been in love for a long time, before they had their ONS. And yet, she mentions that during their time working together, he had “a revolving door of women”. Not gonna lie, if I had known this prior I probably wouldn’t have bothered reading it, but I persevered because I want to read Ramsey and Whitney’s book and this seemed to have pertinent details.

Most of this book was almost incomprehensible. Nothing made sense. One minute they’re revealing deep, dark secrets, then the next they’re skinny dipping on a deserted beach. Literally in the same scene. Why is this woman undressing and running into the ocean? Is this H2O??? Is she going to sprout a tail?

Anyways, I’m really hoping to have more success with the next book, especially since it’s been building during the last few books!

Safety:
No virgins. H was a manwhore.
Not sure about h, but H wasn’t celibate after meeting (see above comment).
Both celibate during 6 month separation.
No true ow drama (h sees H dancing with ow and assumes the worst but nothing happens)
No true om drama but h has an obsessed stalker.

HEAR ME OUT. the suspense part of this book is... Dumb. Like our characters make some stupid decisions like going on a beach where ahem anybody can shoot at you or going to a PI office and thinking nobody is tailing you etc etc. but the romance?????? All the stars. I hated jinx. Didn't think he was charming. He was always a jokester in my opinion. But when he's in love???? When he's with his girl???? Yeah he's different. And the stuff they say together???? Claw my heart out. I cannot wait to read RAMSEY'S STORY OMG

Overall a nice light read, although the MCs didn't draw me in as they did in book 4 and 1. Still good moments of amusement and at times tension.

I like the fact the books can be read out of order comfortably. Read book four before this.

Read this review on Got Fiction? Book Blog

This is the third book in Ms. Eden’s new series Trouble For Hire. Odin, Warren, and Jinx have all been working for the same off the books government agency. And while War and Odin are now working as Private Investigators at Trouble For Hire, Jinx is sort of freelancing. War hired him on, but Jinx isn’t fully done with Uncle Sam…or rather, Uncle Sam isn’t really done with him. Another of their teammates, Ali, has been helping War and Odin as well, but she’s not ready to come in full time. She is however, trying to get out of that off the books group they’ve all worked with. She’s done and wants out. But it’s never that easy.

Ali has a stalker. One who will kill anyone who gets too close to her. She and Jinx had an amazing night after the end of a mission a few months back, but she’s afraid to get too close. She’s afraid her stalker will hurt Jinx.

Jinx hasn’t forgotten their night together. He’s wanted Ali since the moment he saw her, and finally having her…it wasn’t enough. A lifetime wouldn’t be enough. But after hiding his pain and intentions behind a quick joke, and an easy grin, he’s starting to think Ali doesn’t take him seriously. When she comes back into his life, his new mission is to change that. He wants Ali, and he wants her for keeps. The problem is that she keeps dodging him.

Ali isn’t just dodging Jinx. She’s keeping him safe. The one time she went to see him, her stalker called her and threatened Jinx. Ali is a hacker, and she’s one of the absolute best. Since she can’t find this guy, she’s worried. After months of looking over her shoulder and not being able to get close to anyone, she finally goes to Trouble For Hire. Her friends War and Odin will help, and she feels their unique skills can find this creep. She doesn’t expect to find Jinx there.

These two have explosive chemistry, and they work well together. I also love how Ali never doubts Jinx, even when evidence stacks against him. Theirs is a relationship that feels real and organic. I didn’t want it to end!

I’m really enjoying this series a lot. I also hope the plot twist in this book finds its way into another book down the road (not spilling the beans!). I love the way this author writes Romantic Suspense. We have all the things we’ve come to expect from a Cynthia Eden novel. An intense plot, twists you don’t see coming, a hero who will do anything to protect his heroine, a heroine who wants to protect her hero right back, and a couple with off the charts chemistry.

Ok I think the cover and title tells the reader that this book is going to be fun with a hero bound to make you smile and it doesn't disappoint . From the first sizzling scene to the very end Jinx is definitely a man used to getting his own way and move over anyone who underestimates him ! Ali might have found him insanely attractive and she might have decided to look but not touch and then bam those pesky hormones just wake up big time ! It's just too bad that duty calls and for Ali its most assuredly an itch she's not going back to scratch. Yet things and well meaning friends just keep happening and when Ali admits she is in trouble well obviously Jinx is going to bring his own brand of very special assistance !
I admit I haven't read the previous two books in this series yet but found this worked very well as a standalone. Jinx is hilarious and honestly Ali just doesn't realise how committed that big, tough guy really is. I loved Jinx as you can probably tell because he's funny, loyal and yes pretty hot too. Ali strangely enough for this reader wasn't perhaps as fleshed out as Jinx but I suspect the author was having such fun with Jinxs character that Ali somehow got ignored a wee bit. The story is a typical romantic suspense that's got a bad guy out to get the couple but there's a lightness to it that means it's as fun to read as it is interesting. For me perhaps what I enjoyed most ( apart from saucy, reprehensible Jinx) was the supporting characters and the ending certainly leaves me salivating for the story of Jinxs brother.
I thoroughly enjoyed this so much that I happily read it in an afternoon. It was amusing, steamy and had a few surprises so definitely a good book if you just want something to make you smile.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from NetGalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Jinx you charmer! You stole my heart.
I’m loving this trouble for hire series. Each and one of them are unique individually and together they are one big noisy hilarious aaand dangerous family.
I adored Jinx’s quirky ways and his humour. Ali was such a sweetheart and his in every way it counted.

I plowed through this book and series. I didn't expect to like Jinx's story as much as I did but it was good. I still wish we knew more about his background and his real name. I thought I would give myself a break and decide if I wanted to check out the next book but as soon as I read the epilogue I was like yeah ok I am starting this book immediately.

The Jokester has got his own story. When it comes to Ali he’s not joking around one bit. His protective alpha comes out to play. Jinx has a lot of secrets that come to light in this book.

“Because I swear, lately with you, I feel like I’m missing pieces of a puzzle. You’ve always been secretive, but this is a whole other level.”

Danger is around every corner so she goes to Trouble For Hire for help. She gets more than she bargained for with Jinx.

“Uh, listen up, bossy. I came for War. I have a private matter to discuss with War. So I’ll just be doing that, thanks.”

“The clients aren’t all here now. But trust me, we have plenty. So many that it turns out War and Odin are both already committed to other cases. If you want help, then you will be getting me.”

The suspense is fantastic but then any book Cynthia Eden writes is a work of art.

I’m so glad she decided to write Ramsey and Whitney’s story. It’s gonna be a winner.

📖Genre & Tropes📖 : romance suspense x stalker plot x second chance romance x both ex militaries x spicy

A suspenseful romance full of twists and turns that I devoured

After rereading Ramsey's book, I was curious to discover his brother Jinx and see what was hidden behind his playful demeanor ... And I loved it !

The plot was twisty, with the stalker chasing Ali and connected to her past in the special forces (and for once, the heroine is a badass special forces operative, which I love !). But I also really enjoyed the romance between Jinx, who completely agrees with his feelings for her (even though he has many secrets !), and her, who is much more wary and reluctant to give in to her feelings ...

In short, a sexy, suspenseful romance full of twists and turns that I thoroughly enjoyed ! And I highly recommend reading the next book about Ramsey, which I've already read and reread and loved =D

Always impressive with her well thought out plots, Cynthia Eden blew my mind with another who-done-it. Totally didn’t expect this ending.

Jinx and Ali have known each other for a few years and have both worked secret government missions on occasion. When they end up in the same town at the same time they finally give in to the sparks that have been igniting between them. Unfortunately, Ali is called away on another mission before Jinx could return from a condom run. Ali keeps telling herself she has no time for handsome playboys anyway. She’s not about to let her desire for Jinx take over ever again.

Jinx believes he’s been playing this game so carefully, trying to draw Ali to him in a less threatening way. He uses jokes to disarm but Ali doesn’t seem impressed. Returning from the store across the street to find Ali gone really got to him.

When Ali returns from her mission something has changed. She’s guarded and nervous, and then Jinx finds her at Ramsey’s dive bar and he’s furious. Ramsey is a known gangster and there is only one reason Ali would be there. Trouble has followed her back to town and she needs help.

Jinx, along with his partners War and Odin, make it clear that Trouble for Hire Private Investigators will take care of her problem. Even though it seems every man Ali comes in contact with seems to draw negative attention from her new stalker.

You won't put this book down!

Ms. Eden has done it again!

Jinx has been a well lover character in this series and I couldn't contain my excitement knowing he'd get his own book. Ali was a tad mysterious but nonetheless, it's a new story so I was here for it.

Ali and Jinx's connecting from the start was pure fire. The carefree, always joking man with the intensity and sole focus on protecting a woman who can match his brains? Well written and well recieved. I loved that while Ali is being stalked and a victim, she wasn't give in and act like the victim nor does she allow herself to be treated like one. She demands the respect of Odin, War, Jinx and even Ramsey and she gets it! Showing just how much she is part of the team.

Now this book isn't without its twist and turns, the plot twists and the introduction of a few hopefully new characters who will get their own book and time to shine.

As always, I wish these books were longer but they are always well worth the wait when written by Cynthia Eden.

Oh, and that little bombshell being dropped at the end? I can't wait for the next book!

Ms. Eden certainly knows how to write romantic suspense! I knew Jinx was going to be a fun character to get to know, but I had no idea how much fun he was going to be. Yes, he’s the life of the party and the joker, but there’s an intensity and seriousness about him that comes out when it concerns Ali. I loved reading Jinx and Ali’s story so much that it felt like it ended too quick. Their banter and loud-out-loud moments only added to their chemistry. I love that Ms. Eden writes strong, sexy and capable women who are able to take care of themselves but find that it’s much more enjoyable having a strong, sexy and brave man by your side for the ride. The men of Trouble for Hire all have their own distinct personalities and I’m finding it hard to pick a favorite so I won’t! And I can’t wait for Ramsey’s story to unfold – I have a feeling it’s going to be mind-blowing and thrilling. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.

I really liked this one. I wish we got to see Ali in action a little more since they kept talking about how amazing she was and how skilled... but we never got to see it. While I liked Jinx, he came off a little childish to me, and not in a "oh, he's playful and in touch with his inner child" type way, but in a "dude, how old are you again?" kind of way.

Still, even with those detractors I had a lot of fun reading this book. I guessed the bad guy right away, but the villain's motivation was a complete surprise to me and I liked that. I would definitely recommend this series, I'm enjoying it a lot and I can't way for Ramsey's book.

DNF @ 74% - 1.5/2 Stars

I didn't really like this one. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I really struggled to finish this one and finally just give up. I found myself so frustrated and bored by it that I wanted to mark it as DNF and call it at day by 40%. But...Ramsey. I even tried to skim for Ramsey but couldn't.

I so wanted to like Jinx and was intrigued by the supposed past he had with the mysterious Ali we hear about in book two. And then we actually met Ali and I was immediately not a fan.

Personally to me, Ali wasn't particularly interesting. I maybe expected more from her character so maybe my dislike began from my own expectations. But in comparison to both heroines in the previous books I felt her character didn't match what we were told she was. She has this secretive background much like Jinx. And while she was a hacker, skilled computer analyst and even trained in the field...I didn't buy it. She was supposedly great at lying and undercover work. But with what her personality was and the way she acted as normal ole Ali throughout the entire book didn't add up for me. It didn't fit the backstory the author set up for her. She was too soft, I guess. I'm not sure how to explain it. She felt like a weaker character. And I absolutely could not wrap my head around her being some secret agent with how she acted and handled her situation.

Sure, she admitted that she had been recruited into her job. It was a "go to jail or do this" sort of ultimatum and while she had worked in the field with a variety of agencies and with types like Jinx, War and Odin she was still a civilian more or less. She hadn't went into the military or anything. So, I get it. She was technically softer when compared to the heroes of this series. But even compared to the heroines (who were both civilians too) Rose who was a reporter and Maisey who was college teacher I still couldn't picture her in the role the author tried to make me believe.

I didn't like her. And it sort of ruined the whole book for me. It made me not enjoy Jinx as much as I wanted to.

I also had an issue with her claiming she didn't ask for help with her stalker because she was trying to protect Jinx.

Jinx. The military trained assassin type macho alpha dude who liked running into danger and was TRAINED to do so. Yeah. Alrighty then. 🙄

I could buy Maisey being protective over Odin in book two, it was cute even, but this didn't work for me. I thought it was a little stupid and honestly? Repetitive. The other books carried that same theme.

And okay.. Ali's stalker was specifically targeting any men in her life. Had in fact threatened Jinx in a round about way the last time she attempted to meet up with him. Should she have been cautious? Hell yeah. Should she have tried to excuse not asking for help on her try to protect the man she cared for who could clearly take care of himself? I don't know. And yes, the stalker was suspected to be powerful, high up and part of the organization they previously worked for. He was a legitimate threat but all things considered it just felt like a weak attempt at making the heroine seem admirable for putting him first when I just thought she was being extremely stupid.

Because clearly she was not as trained as Jinx and was obviously scared by this guy. She might have had computer skills but she needed help and instead she left herself open to this creeps stalking for such a dumb reason.

And then after they jump back in bed together Ali subtlety drops to us the reader that she had in fact been in love with Jinx for years now. 🙈 Not a damn word or hint of this in the prologue while they had their one night stand. Nada. Just a bunch of "this is a mistake" and "it'll never happen again" crap. I just rolled my eyes. How could I not?

It was obvious from the jump from Jinx's thoughts and even things he said to his brother and the guys that he had been patiently waiting for his chance with Ali all this time. Having known and worked together on and off for two years he'd been obsessed with her, I guess. I mean if he had deeper feelings I wasn't sensing it. Just that he wanted her, was attracted to her and wanted something serious with her. Lord knows why.

It felt like we were told about their supposed feelings for one another and never truly shown them. I didn't like that at all because ultimately I didn't FEEL anything from them when they were together. They were just attracted to one another. 🤷🏻‍♀️

For whatever reason Cynthia's writing style really rubbed me the wrong way in this one. All the repetitive descriptions about how gorgeous, sexy or good looking the other was. Jinx of course has 8-pack abs or a 10-pack if it's possible! Oh my! And Jinx repeatedly bringing up fucking Ali, how much or how many times he wanted or planned to fuck her... Good lord. It definitely dumbed down the overall story for me.

It just felt really shallow and I was so bummed by it all.

I also had a head scratching moment when Jinx is telling one of his secrets to Ali and obviously who his brother is comes up and what is that I read? Jinx said his brother was a year younger than him... Uh, what? I'm sorry, but in the epilogue of book 2 we were told, in Jinx's POV that when Odin found him at Ramsey's earlier in book two that the reason he had been there was because he had been "visiting the older brother no one knew about" hm yeah. That was annoying because I was all set on the idea that Ramsey was the big brother.

I had planned to skim to the end but ultimately couldn't bring myself to pick it back up. It wasn't a bad book, I guess... it was more of a ME problem then anything else. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We met Jinx in book two of this series so I was looking forward to learning more about him. Jinx has such a big heart and cares deeply about the people who are important to him. I liked that he and Ali liked each other from the very beginning, so this wasn’t an insta-love story. As far as who the bad guy was I thought I had it figured it out but I was wrong. The mystery was a good one.

No third act breakup

Lots of action and lots of hardcore steam! Jinx has now become my new fantasy along with the rest of the Trouble for Hire team! I loved how Ali never doubted mind once she made the decision to trust him. Love to see a couple that fights and fights dirty together! Now I'm Not so patiently waiting to find out about Ramsey. Great book

This is a great book. Jinx and Ali are great together. I like how strong and capable she is. I also like how much Jinx cares for Ali, right from the beginning. The mystery of who’s hunting her is interesting with twists that has me guessing. This book was enjoyable to read.

Loved it!

This is a wonderful second chance/bodyguard/thriller romance. Very intricate plot line with twists and all the who’s and why’s are multilayered so it’s not predictable. Well written with wonderful characters, both primary and secondary. Will read more. Only thing that could have made it better was if he kept her note

Jinx has loved Ali for years...and now, can he tell her?

They worked together. They had one night together and then she had to leave for a job. In their line of work, you didn't tell people when you left or where you were going and you never knew when you'd be back.

But she's back now and in need of help. Jinx is ready to help her and love her. If only she'll let him...
