The Twins was a super fast-paced thriller that had me flipping from page to page, looking for answers. The book includes one of my favourite tropes: an unreliable narrator. We get the perspective of both twins but are unable to fully trust either of them, especially Margo who is searching for gaps in her memory.

I was envisioning giving this one a 3-star rating but the twist at the end bumped it right up a star. I had an inkling that that as where it was headed but it didn't make it any less shocking or enjoyable.

Overall, a quick and tense thriller read with a great ending.

The twins is another must read story I will recommend.

I loved “The prank” last year, and this one is so much more suspenseful and twisted.

And these two have their plate overflowing with buried secrets.

I’m not even sure who I was rooting for more all along because I was always changing my feelings between one or the other while discovering more of their lives and scenarios with each chapter.

One trying to forget and the other trying to remember everything from that unfortunate night.

It’s a fast-paced story that kept me up way into the night because I really wanted to know how everything will unveil and there were quite a few moments when I had to reread certain scenes because my theories were so out of place compared to what I was reading!

Twisted, addictive and intriguing story that many readers will enjoy.

This book is right up my street! Twins in a psychological drama where the past is revealed in line with the present - multiple POV's - tragedies revealed.
I very much enjoyed this one - it is a little bit disjointed but worth hanging in there!

After a brief but much-needed holiday, it was time to pick up something new to read. Which can always be a tricky feet when you have piles surrounding you all begging to be picked next. So after spending a good half hour scouring the tiles around me. I decided to pick something from an author I'd not read before. The Twins by L.V. Matthews had a whole bunch of great reviews. And a tale of siblings is something I am always drawn to. Whilst we can all be great friends with our sisters or brothers it can also breed a great rivalry. Or in fact in this case a need to beat the other in order to survive to see the rising of the sun with a sense of freedom. It felt to me like this was going to be just the right book for me to delve into. And I'm always happy to see how a new author might tackle a genre that feels so familiar to me.

The book is split into two different perspectives, each part devoted to one of the sisters. It gives us a glimpse into two very different worlds both as a collective part of London but ones that are most definitely worlds apart. Margo the ever overworked nanny. Running from this job to that always trying to keep everyone around her happy. I suppose she feels like she is trying to make up for things that took place out of her control. But this misguided feeling of guilt means she has grown up to be a people pleaser. Someone who lives to serve but can never get to a place of contentment in herself. Cora on the other hand is someone who possibly should feel guilt but seems fairly incapable of doing so. She lives only for her own thoughts and dreams and couldn't care less how these actions may affect others. But when you are in pursuit of your dreams why would you let a little something like other people stop you. These twins are like order and chaos destined to be bonded together but much like magnets of the same polarity always pushing away from each other.

The Twins is one of those books that draws you in from just the first couple of pages. I liked the way the author has found the perfect balance as we move from one sister to the other at just the right moment. It means that we not only get to learn about their individual lives but also in smaller building blocks piecing together how their relationship came to be so fractured. It is one of those tales where we can see how the butterfly effect can come into being and shows the far bigger consequences of such actions even if we may believe in the moment that nothing can come of it. But I suppose for most at least when we are young we believe our family will always be there for us. That nothing we can do will ever change that. It is only as adults we realize that there are limits to just how far this can go. For Cora and Margo, this is never more true but there is always going to be a moment when this all comes crashing down. It is just a matter of how the cards will fall when their two worlds collide.

This was one of those books that went beyond my expectations. It is far too easy to expect a string of tired twin cliches when going in. But thankfully Matthew's has managed to craft a narrative that not only managed to avoid such moments but has also went on to surprise me on more than one occasion. I fully believe that anyone who enjoys thrillers will find a new favorite within these pages

Really enjoyed the reveal at the end, usually I can predict where a storyline is going but I think this ending was very well done and unpredictable.

Overview: Okay so...this book surprised he hell out of me. There I was enjoying a great story between twins who are completely different with a bit of a mystery thrown in and then...BAM! That twist happens and I'm left with my jaw hanging. And I don't know why I didn't see it coming because it's a similar twist to my own psychological thriller series! Completely amazing and thoroughly enjoyable read.

Good Points: Both twins were basically opposite of each other which I love. As an identical twin myself I can relate so much to their bond even during their arguments. (Don't worry I have a great relationship with my twin!) The plot was slow to start but built and built until that twist and by then it was late at night and I couldn't put it down.

Not so Good Points: To be honest I have none. I know Cora was supposed to be the "bad" twin but I actually loved her. I didn't like Raff much but other than that it was a perfect thriller!

Thrillers lovers...read this book! You won't be disappointed. Also thanks to L.V. Matthews for chatting to me about this book when I finished it

P.S. If you loved this book then you'll love the My...Self series (not sorry about the shameless self-promotion there!)

Twins are usually stereotyped to be two halves to the same person - well not in this book. They are as different as chalk and cheese.

Margo lives as a nanny in Kensington, in a four storey house; looking after a set of twins herself. Her life is ordered, structured, kept together by those little white pills.

Cora on the other hand lives hand to mouth in a flat with her friend Nav, finally earning the part dancing on the play Mirror, Mirror; a role made for her.

What does connect them however is the loss of their younger sister Annie: a loss that Margo has blocked out and is trying to remember; and the evening that Cora is trying her damnedest to keep forgotten.

Jeez! That just blew me away! I really wasn’t expecting the twisty ending until the last minute when the penny (or should I say Bad Penny) dropped!

What a fantastic psychological thriller with some great characters throughout. I loved the tortured poet Raff, who had always loved Cora, his muse, his inspiration.

I can’t say any more or else I’ll give the game away but needless to say it was AMAZING!!

I’m giving this 3.75 🌟. I enjoyed it but just not quite enough to warrant a 4. It is a good story , very cleverly written and really gets you thinking towards the end. It took me into a world (ballet) which I don’t know too much about and highlights how punishing it can be, both psychologically and physically.

Identical twins Margo and Cora live in London. Although they look so similar that sometimes even those closest to them mistake one for the other, they couldn’t be more different.
Margo is a live-in nanny for a wealthy family who also have twins and Cora is a ballet dancer who is auditioning for a part in the show Mirror, Mirror, which could be her breakthrough role.
It quickly becomes clear that something in the twins’ past has traumatised them. Margo takes anxiety tablets and Cora is a very unreliable and rather disturbed young woman. Margo suspects that all her problems – and maybe Cora’s problems, too – stem from the death of their younger sister, Annie. Margo can’t remember exactly what happened to Annie, and Cora, who does know the truth, won’t tell her.
As Margo’s supply of anxiety tablets runs out, she starts to remember fragments of how Annie died. Margo’s therapist and Cora’s ex-boyfriend also provide Margo with some clues. But can she take the truth?

A captivating and chilling story of sibling rivalry and sisterly bonds; of grief, trauma and identity. Both heart-racing and heart-wrenching.
Brilliantly-plotted, beautifully-written with a jaw-dropping, stomach-punching twist.

This is LV Matthew’s second novel and if you haven’t read The Prank, I would highly recommend her debut, too!

In The Twins we follow twin sisters Margo and Cora and their turbulent relationship. Margo is experiencing memory loss and can’t remember parts of her childhood, particularly how her little sister Annie died when they were younger. Cora appears to be trying to stop Margo from remembering the truth.

This book unfortunately just wasn’t for me. I found a lot of parts of the story boring and repetitive. I wasn’t really interested in the dance and poetry aspects of the book which were discussed in quite a lot of detail. Maybe it’s because I’ve read several other books that have the same ‘twist’ as this book but I predicted the ending very early on and I feel that previous books have executed and discussed this particular ‘twist’ so much better. I think it’s becoming overdone now in the thriller genre.

The ending felt really long and drawn out, the writing style wasn’t really for me and I was very happy to finish this book which is a shame as I had high hopes for this one. I think maybe it’s more of a me problem as this book is getting good reviews. Could be a good one for readers that are new to the thriller genre or have an interest in dance/performing.

First thriller I’ve read in ages and let me just say… THE TWIST 😰

As always with an thriller I was trying to guess what the plot/twist would be from the very first page and I’m always pleasantly surprised when I don’t guess it - and I didn’t guess this one.

I really enjoyed how this book reflected twins but made sure that they were totally different and not always in each other’s pockets as I often find with books about twins.

I don’t think I can say too much about this one without giving away too much of the plot - I went in completely blind and think you all should do as well. If you’d like trigger warnings please DM as this book does explore some serious topics ☺️

I think this is much better than the authors other book ‘The Prank’ and I really enjoyed that one. Definitely an auto-buy author for me.

When I saw that L.V. Matthews was going to be attending the Book Party in London I added The Twins to my list of books to read before the party. When this one popped up on Scribd I immediately downloaded it to listen.

We are introduced to Cora and Margo, identical twins who couldn’t be any different. Margo is a live in nanny who is devoted to looking after the children in her care. She takes her job seriously and clearly has a lot of love and affection to give. Cora on the other hand is narcissistic, she would do anything to achieve her dancing dreams and no one is going to stop her.

It soon becomes clear that there is a horrendous event that both twins witnessed when they were teens that has shaped the course of their lives. Whilst Margo has no memory of this event it is clear that Cora does and she desperately wants to stop Margo from uncovering the details surrounding it. Whilst I am not painting Cora in the best light I did feel for her at times, I often questioned whether she was trying to protect Margo out of love?

The Twins is a slow psychological thriller that has one hell of a twist. I honestly had one of those moments where I could not believe what had just happened. It was exceptionally executed and if you are an audiobook lover then I would suggest listening to make the twist even better.

Twins Margo and Cora are very different. Margo, a live in Nanny, has always been the sensible and sensitive one. Cora, a dancer, is the wild one.

As different as they are, a childhood tragedy binds them and haunts them both.
Margo, with Cora’s help has wiped the incident from her memory…but now her memories are starting to come back to her.
What really happened that day and why?

A really enjoyable read. Heartbreaking and compelling with some great twists.

A dark, twist-filled novel which will leave you wanting more. I thoroughly enjoyed this different style of thriller which plays with memory, secrets and relationships. I just love books about twins and this one doesn’t disappoint. I read this book in one sitting, devouring page after page until I reached the shocking conclusion. The book is told in alternating perspectives by Cora and Margo. The chapters are short and easy to read with each one leaving you wanting to know more. Half way through reading, I started searching for other books by this author, I knew I’d want to read her other works. I’d highly recommend this novel to anyone who likes deep, suspenseful mysteries. This one was easy to read, well written and a fun way to spend a holiday afternoon. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Twins is a gripping and suspenseful Family Thriller that absolutely blew my mind! A dark plot, full of questioning behaviour and completely unreliable narration - when I finished reading I just sat in shock processing what I had read!

The beginning of the story was slower in pace, which I am not usually a fan of but it worked so well for this book as you really got to know both Margo and Cora from the dual point of view chapters.

From the beginning I knew something wasn’t quite as it seemed, but not in my wildest dreams would I have guessed the massive twist that came from this story! I am not saying anymore on that as I would hate to spoil this for someone else.

I cannot recommend this book enough - it is easily my favourite book for February and is definitely up there with my favourite thrillers of all time! Book hangover incoming……

Tortuous

Unfortunately I have read too many books like this recently and guessed the major plot twists very early on and as this is very much a book relying on plot to keep you reading,I found it to be quite difficult to finish. It just didn't hold together well for me at all and I didn't believe the characters and consequently didn't feel anything for them.

Thanks to Jonathan Ball Publishers for this review copy!

This book landed on my TBR because I was intrigued by the blurb. I requested it not because I know the author, but simply because I was intrigued. What a fabulous read it turned out to be. I have already started hunting for a copy of the author’s other book – The Prank.
When you reach for this book, you are heading down a twisty path of a brilliantly written tale. The story will keep you engrossed and you will not want to put this book down. I raced from page to page eagerly. I just could not read this one fast enough.
The story is told from both Core and Margo’s perspectives, moving from one to the other between the chapters. These two sisters are very different and you are drawn to both. They share their story with you leaving you amazed at the different opinions they have. The author draws you into these sisters’ world beautifully with this original story. L V Matthews writes a compelling tale, I am eager to read more of her work.
Margo is a live-in nanny and Cora is a dancer on the cusp of her big break into the dance world. They are very different, but as twins, they share a remarkable bond. Haunted by an unhappy childhood, the secrets of their past are returning to haunt them. Can their bond survive the jealousy and rivalry they are living with? Or will the past destroy them forever?
This book had me hooked from the very first page, I battled to put this one down. I loved the bond and rivalry between these sisters. I could feel Margo’s confusion and heartbreak and understood her jealousy of Annie. The author did a fabulous job with these characters – leaving you sharing the emotions as you read this book.
There was no picking between these sisters. I found myself intrigued by both these young women. They are very different, yet as you get to know them you are unable to pick a side. Cora comes across as harsh and selfish, but you soon realise that she is simply looking out for Margo – even if she goes about it all wrong. And Margo’s love for her sister, her need for Cora’s presence in her life steals your heart. I loved when Margo started showing some strength of her own but was left miserable by the horrors she uncovered.
I loved every minute of this book and would highly recommend this one to fans of a twisty, unpredictable psychological thriller. Go ahead, add this one to your TBR, you will love this gripping, original tale!
