In the small town of Beacon Hill, death may be your only escape...
Elle Gray lives in a small town with her 2 cats, and her handsome husky. As a girl, she was obsessed with crime novels and thrillers.
Today, she loves writing and creating thrilling novels with courageous, strong heroes/heroines and dangerous psychopaths. She invites you to join her exciting world of detectives and FBI agents that take down killers and kick butt.
I very rarely leave poor reviews, but I had little choice with this book. The typos and missed words were quite hard to ignore. I usually just tap on the report error and put a note in about what is wrong. It got so bad that I felt like an editor by the end of the book. I was disappointed in the main character and her development throughout the story. The first 75-80% was a lot of whining for an FBI agent. She was in no way someone that I was anxious to read the next story. It was only in the final chapters that it actually picked up, with some well-timed action. Otherwise, the book would consist of so much unnecessary drama. Everything about the book was over the top and unbelievable. I only went up to a 3rd star due to the last few chapters.
Plot twist comments (spoilers below) :
I don't know what police department can't track one of their own vehicles in this day and age. Also, what agent with the FBI just runs around doing things on her own? Especially if she has been told her life is in danger and she has a protection detail. Extremely hard to believe, shows the character's selfishness.
The Murders in Beacon Hill (Olivia Knight FBI Mystery Thriller Book 2)
This is the second book that I've read from this author, & have to say that I completely enjoyed both books. This story revolves around a cult that appears to have taken over a small town. Olivia and her partner, Brock are tasked with solving multiple Murders while trying to infiltrate a cult that appears to have a hold on lonely, broken people. There is much suspense, and several unexpected twists. It's a great read that doesn't rely on vulgar language, which was an appreciated feature.
I have read all of Elle Grey’s series and loved them. However, I had a terrible time getting into The Murders In Beacon Hill. The story was very slow and the someone forgot to proofread before publication. There are are more than the expected errors throughout the story. It almost became a game to see where the next mistake would pop up. The storyline isn’t bad but it drags on too long. I have to agree with other reviews that this doesn’t live up to Elle Grey quality of writing. I expected more from her. This was not worth the time I invested in it.
Olivia is a nice lady. While reading this book, you come to fall in love with this lady. She has excellent views that will hang with you. The heart of gold.
I have read a few books by Elle Gray, different series, my only question is what is the obsession with cults?
I love great mystery/ thriller books and great characters. Olivia and Brock are both very interesting and complex. This book was a mixture of excellent characters and a deep dive into cults and religious extremism. The last book I read by this author, with a different character also focused on a cult. I’m not sure where the author is going with this obsession but I hope the other books in the different series take on other themes.
Read this if you want to know more about how people come to control others and commit heinous crimes. I prefer a deeper villain story that you have to try to understand what drives the killer and how they go about discovering them through good police work and profiling. This was obvious from the beginning, as most cults have similar motivations. It was also very clear early on who was the leader. Unfortunately, the author didn’t really go deeper into the details of the plot, so it was kind of superficial. A madman is a madman.
This book was better than the first Olivia Knight installment—while the grammar and spelling were atrocious in book one, they did improve somewhat here. That said, there’s still a lot of room for improvement.
I found the plot overall to be very unrealistic, especially toward the end. Olivia drops everything to go see Amos with absolutely no plan or backup—which is hard to believe for an FBI agent. The ending also felt very rushed. Additionally, it was frustrating that it took the entire book for the characters to realize the three men were brothers.
I think part of my disappointment comes from how much I loved the Blake Wilder series. I went in expecting something similar, which was probably unfair. Olivia comes across as far more cowardly and insecure compared to Blake’s strong, confident character. While I understand they are different people, this series just doesn’t hold the same appeal for me.
That said, I plan to keep reading in hopes that the series continues to improve.

The Murders in Beacon Hill are morbid and serial killer driven. It doesn’t take long for authorities to realize the monumental task of identifying the culprit(s) and bringing justice to the forefront.
Gray does an excellent job of weaving in little tidbits of a backstory about Olivia’s mom and the relationship building with her new partner Brock.
Olivia works the case diligently but also gives into the distractions grudgingly for the most part but the storyline always stays front and center. I appreciate that.
It’s a good read, exposing the devious mind of a true psychopath. It’s very sad to see the weak manipulated but it happens every day in our society. Sometimes it’s not so harmful but this takes the extreme.
It took me an extra day to read this, as it didn’t win me over completely. I enjoy the characters and their strength of being true to who they are.
I’m still looking forward to Book 3 in this series.
The book is poorly written w lots of grammatical errors. There were like 10 deaths in the first half of the book which was completely unbelievable and the heroine was unlikable at best. She didn't act like a trained FBI agent and was often clueless throughout. She never actually figured anything out in her own, it basically slapped her in the face. To top it off they include a lot of fluff w a side story about her missing mother that has nothing to do w anything. Sorry to say I'm done w this series.
This book was just not my thing. I read the first book in the series at some point but didn't remember anything about it until I got part of the way into this one. If I had remembered how problematic I found the first one, I would never have started the second one. But I don't like to be a quitter, so I forced myself to finish this.
The authors spend more time writing about the characters' thoughts and feelings than actually writing about what is happening. That works for some books, but not for this type of book. I also found the plot a little too ridiculous even for this genre.
I didn’t like this book as well as the first. Olivia came across as overly emotional and reckless - something I wouldn’t expect in an FBI agent. The timeline of her mother’s disappearance seemed to fluctuate from years to one year, and then back to years. How could someone so traumatized by family loss be a functional, even exceptional agent? The case was brutal and bloody, somewhat interesting but left unresolved (somewhat) at the end.
Who would think people could kill people in such horrible ways. Olivia and Brock had a complex mystery to solve before to many people were killed. With all the investigation that they did put Olivia out front and she became a target for the cult. They solved the mystery but didn't get all the guilty caught. The book left you wondering what would happen next. Good story. One you hope never really happens.
It was an ok read but moved very slow, too much repeats, was not happy with the end for Olivia and Brock. She needs some one to keep her in line, & no personal life is boring. Felt sorry for him. Not enough guts to follow through with his feelings only gave her complete control. Made him look wimpy. I'll try one more and hope it will improve. Mystery is not supposed to be boring or repetitive, she needs some suspense...😎🤔😲😈 Tweety🐦🐦
I enjoy reading books by Elle Gray as she has way of drawing you in to each novel. The epilogue is always intriguing, not knowing if the character in question will return in a later novel. I guess I will see as I continue to read each book. I love the way she builds her storyline, as well as how she develops each character. I will be coming back for more and recommending her to other avid readers. JP
This is an amazing crime thriller my second book by this author and this one was better than the last. If you love a great mystery in your crime thriller this is it. It has some occult themes in the story line which I found unique I highly recommend you give it a shot if your thinking about it
This was a complex, twisted, and wicked thriller that will definitely keep you guessing until the end. What started out with a murder victim quickly became all out chaos. It's certainly not a story that you'll want to miss. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
The Murders in Beacon Hill( Olivia Knight FBI Mystery Thriller Book 2)
OMG!!!!!!!!! I loved it the book was amazing. It lead us into a cult. A crazy murdery kind of cult. You didn't really know who was in charge until the very end, but they also left it opened to have the cult come back later. Scary
Maybe these are earlier writings than the Brook Wilder series. There's a lot of redundancy in the 1st 2 books. Olivia casting doubt on herself and ability. The story came together in the last 6 chapters or so. Not sure I'll continue the series. Ms. Gray seemed to find her footing in the Blake Wilder series.
What more could I say? The story is thought producing to say the least. How it progressed kept me so interested. Thank you for number 2, looking forward to number 3! Thank you for so many hours of enjoyment. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good read!
Olivia Knight series is new to me. Based in Belle Grove, Va. A new case in Beacon Hill, a homicide that her partner Brock who has a boss, Jonathan, who pairs them up for this intriguing murder case. I loved all the characters and the mystery of a murder case. The plot was still good even though grammar errors were plenty. My first novel by these authors.
Olivia has found a snake in the town she thought was safe. The guilty are a new cult and she is the one to stop them.
Olivia and her new partner Brock find themselves mixed up in a new serial murder’s plans. They try to recruit her into the cult but she resists them and keeps digging one layer at a time
Maybe if you are a young reader, or are into murderous cults this may just interest you. I hate being negative but this was really not what I expected from a favorite author.
I find it incredibly difficult to believe This book was written by the same author who Wrote the Blake and Paxton series. The errors were too many to count and the over use of adjectives and flow of this story was horrible
Olivia Knight is a bit "too good to be true". I mean no one, man or woman, heads into danger all the time alone. Seems Elle Gray needs to tone down her heroines a bit.
I enjoyed the first book but I gave this one four stars because I do not like cult books...they are like democrats..they brainwash people to submit to their bidding and people who joins cults are just as evil as liberals...
This is the second book in the series and Olivia is still being portray as a weak FBI agent. Shelby has more spark to her than Olivia.. Please give her some backbone like you’ve done with other females characters.
Good storyline , kept n you guessing until the end. Would recommend to others. Have also read other books written by this author. She is a really good author.
Loved this book. This is a very good thriller. This is a book you won't want to put down. Believe me I could not put this book down. I highly recommend this book. Can't wait until the next book in this series comes out
At the beginning I did become a little irritated with Olivia, but I really enjoyed all the emotions and difficult situations she worked through. Really excited about how her character is developing.
I chose this rating because of the master mind Elle Gray creates in her characters. Love the closeness Olivia and Brock have. Will there be romance between these two? Keeping my fingers crossed!
