Thank you Avon Books UK and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an HONEST review. IYKYK, my reviews are ALWAYS honest.

Writing: 1/5 | Plot: 1/5 | Ending: 1/5

THE PLOT

Ali is recovering from a devastating accident involving her now presumed dead husband, Matthew. No body was found. So is he really dead? And if he's simply disappeared, why?

MY OPINION

Womp. WOmp. WOOOOOOMPPPPP. Lately I've noticed a trend where the author can somehow piece together an enticing prologue with decent writing, but afterward it all falls to shit. This was no exception. The prologue sucked me in; I thought here we gooooOOOOOO. Good writing. Nice descriptions but not over the top. Suspense. Intrigue. Mystery. But it ended there.

1 stars so you know the vibes. In this book we had:

- Endless rehashing of events. Literally within the first 20% of the book, Ali has the SAME convo about her husband being missing, not dead, with the same 3 characters, about 10490149 times. Girl.

- Unlikeable characters. All of them were some level of pathetic and/or delusional. I couldn't picture Ali as a "girl boss" (PUKE). She was relentlessly pathetic. bruh when she said something to the effect of: strength comes from making hard decisions in reference to serving tenants an eviction notice so she could flip their rental L M A O. Ah bah ouais... you are such a pillar of strength for throwing poor people on the street so you can make a buck off gentrification. (double puke)

- Irrelevant details. In one scene her friends pops over and he's like oh sorry to surprise you, I was just worried and she says "that's why I gave you the key" and then the author legit writes 3 sentences about WHY she gave the key as if that wasn't gleaned by that whole convo?????? Closed caption ass writing.

- Soggy ass reveal. That's it????? All this murderous and illegal activity for WHAT??? Nah bruv.

- Bleak ending involving characters wildin with a gun to force a confession. Lame. Lazy. Uncreative. I'd literally say ANYTHING if a gun was pointed at me. You want me to twerk while confessing to multiple murders?? SAY LESS. I'd throw my ass in every geometric shape possible.

PROS AND CONS

When Ali's husband is killed in a road traffic accident, she can't believe her husband is gone. While she's recovering from the accident, she learns that Matthew has kept secrets from her. She's still trying to process the events leading up to the accident, The premise for this book showed lots of possibilities, but unfortunately it fell short. This is a fast paced read with twists and lots of bad language, I wasn't keen on any of the characters who were all a bit flat. There's lots of information that we didn't need to know and some of it was rehashed over and over, This wasn't a bad read, if it wasn't for the repetitiveness and the unnecessary swearing, I would have given this book at least another star.

My Husband’s Secrets by Louise Sharland sure does have a lot of secrets in her life. This starts out with a fatal car accident on Ali and Matthew’s anniversary. She can’t believe he is gone and has to learn to live without him. She finds out lots of secrets she never knew he had. This kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to see what was coming up next. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published May 2022.

This was a twisty story with ambiguity surrounding Ali’s husband, Matthew. After a terrifying car accident that left Ali seriously injured, her husband was never found. Alive or dead? Ali is convinced that with no body, Matthew must be alive. What follows is Ali’s hunt for clues about his whereabouts, leading her looking closer to home with her suspicions.

Ali’s devotion to Matthew is very solid in this story. In my opinion, it was too loyal, especially when evidence comes to light of Matthew’s indiscretions. Despite clues that Matthew has not been honest and deceived Ali where it would hurt the most, she remains determined to find her husband and confront him over his disappearance. Using Facebook sightings to help her, she enlists her friend to try and locate Matthew. I found this element to be quite far-fetched: relying on Facebook comments that could be a load of rubbish, but sincerely believing this proved Matthew to be alive. On the other hand, it does reflect Ali’s love for her husband and how convinced he is alive, albeit in hiding.

There is a large web of deceit uncovered as the novel progresses. I guessed some of the plot developments bur was still curious about the final revelations. In my opinion, I thought Ali to be rather naïve, meaning she was easily hoodwinked by those around her. Even when the odds are stacked against her, Ali continues to think the best of her husband and friends, and I think this does not help with her quest for the truth.

I think Ali’s determination to believe that Matthew is alive is a big hindrance to her. This is mirrored by her injuries. Still recovering from the car accident, Ali has limited mobility and it is only when she starts to accept some of the facts about her husband does she seem to be more in control. I think this symbolises the break that Ali makes away from the accident, not letting it rule her life and moving forwards once more. When she returns back to work full-time, I think this was the point where Ali’s character became literally and metaphorically stronger.

There were not many characters in this book which meant there were few suspects to believe in. However, the list of reasons for Ali to mistrust these people did grow to be rather long. This added to the intrigue of the story, especially the ultimate question of where Matthew might be hiding. Like Ali, I was determined to find out why Matthew had disappeared, as well as unlocking the memories that Ali cannot access from the night of the accident.

I quite enjoyed this book and following Ali’s character. She is determined but frustratingly naïve. She clearly loves her husband but I think she would have benefitted from being a bit more insightful, especially considering she knew so much about Matthew’s past.

With thanks to Avon books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ali and Matthew are leaving their anniversary party. Ali is convinced Matthew is too drunk to drive but he does a mini sobriety test, assuring her he’s fine. They’re squabbling in the car and crash into the water.

2 months later, Ali is attempting to go back to the crash site to leave some flowers for Michael’s birthday. Ali was injured in the crash and has only been out of rehabilitation for 6 weeks, but Matthew's body was never found.

She doesn’t remember much from that night besides burnt rubber and screams. It’s all a blur. Retrograde amnesia, the doctor says.

Whether or not Matthew is dead is disputed. Ali thinks he’s still alive out there and most think he’s dead. They were a power couple so conspiracies abound on the internet.

Ali blames climate change for the storm they crashed in, not the fact that they’re fat stinking drunks who could’ve killed an innocent person. Aside from all the external factors she blames, Ali can’t help but blame herself!

Anyway, things are getting weird. We find out there are things of Matthew's missing from the home and that her daughter(not his) was fighting with him earlier in the night. Ali uncovers a trail of financial lies and less than savory business dealings but we still don’t know what this has to do with his disappearance, if anything.

This was about whether or not the guy was alive somewhere but mostly it was about his financial situation, mortgages and estate and they went into great detail which was a bit boring. Also it didn’t translate over to the US well because there were social customs I just hadn’t heard of so a lot of it didn’t make sense to me.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review!

Ahh, the dreaded second book after a successful debut!

What began with a fantastic and compelling prologue fizzled out to a mediocre story. It was as if it became stuck on the conveyor belt of good intentions. It’s the second book I’ve read within days where an initial event is rehashed to eternity AND has too much swearing. Readers lose interest while reading this genre if it doesn’t progress quickly and is caught up in too much drama. I also didn’t think the language was necessary as it didn’t add to the plot. There are MANY different ways, other than swearing, of letting readers know (if they don’t already) that a partner is angry at being duped and now trying to grieve. Show, don’t tell! Full of amazing potential, it was hampered by a confusing protagonist, a cast of shallow, unlikeable (smothering) characters in addition to both events and surface-level conversation that didn’t progress the plot.

Despite what I felt it lacked, it was still a quick read with lots of secrets and twists. A perfect beach read.

Please read the other reviews on this book and don’t rely on my critique to be the sole basis of your choice.

I was gifted this advance copy by Louise Sharland, Avon Books UK, and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Plot

After a tragic accident on the eve of her wedding day in which her deceased husband, Matthew was involved, Ali had to deal with the aftermath in her life. She then began to unearth truths that Matthew hid from her as the months pass but was she really as close to her husband as she believed she was? And why can't she get rid of the notion that he's still living somewhere?

Thoughts

The starting of the book was fantastic, I was reading page after page and it just made me want to continue. But the high didn't stay for as long.

There were a lot of recurring information that started being told about 1/4 into the book and it repeated so much that it dulled the mystery and thrill. The side characters seemed to be all over the place with their appearances, totally unnecessary and it was a little too much for me because it made the book uninteresting. I didn't care about the side characters at all. The buildup was good but the ending unfortunately didn't maintain that level. It's a short and fast read but that is really it to the book.

My Husband’s Secrets tells the story of Ali, who three months after a horrific car accident that (maybe?) took her husband’s life, is still recovering. Ali used to be a take no shit boss bitch, but now spends her days wallowing around the house and screaming to everyone that her husband is still alive.

In case you couldn’t tell, I didn’t particularly care for this one. I thought every single character was more horrible than the last which made it hard to root for anyone. I didn’t agree with any of the choices Ali or anyone around her made. I did read this quickly because I wanted to find out what happened, but the end didn’t make up for the lackluster story. If you’re looking for a quick mystery/thriller, this one is worth the read as it’s pretty short and fast, but it’s certainly not groundbreaking! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

How well do you know the man you love?

Ali and Matthew are celebrating their third wedding anniversary with a party, where they both have had a lot to drink and it's raining heavily.

Matthew is driving too fast when the car loses control and ends up in the river. Ali is seriously injured and Matthew was never found. Dead or alive. She refuses to believe Matthew is gone.

Whilst she is recovering from the accident she learns that Matthew has kept secrets from her. Using Facebook sightings to help her, she enlists her friends husband to try and find Matthew. She refuses to believe Matthew is dead.

This is an engaging read. I found myself second guessing how this would end. I will definitely be looking out for this author's next book.

This was an edge of your seat thriller all the way through. It gave me the shivers at times, and the question that ran through my head was, is her husband dead or not? A brilliant book which would make a very good film. Highly recommend. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I will probably read her again. The story opens with Ali and her husband Matt are celebrating their 3rd wedding anniversary when they get into a horrific crash. Ali survives and Matt cannot be found. The story brought into question how much do you know your spouse and the secrets they may hide.

This story had some great twists and turns at the end had me trying to work out where the truth lies. With so many people keeping terrible secrets it was a bit difficult to feel sorry for any one.

Louis Sharland has written an interesting story and I did enjoy it. I will definitely give her another try.

Thank you to #netgalley and #avonbooksuk for allowing me to read the eARC of this book. All opinions expressed above are my own.

Synopsis: On the evening of their wedding anniversary, Ali and Matthew are involved in a fatal car accident. Grief-stricken, Ali can’t bring herself to believe that her beloved Matthew is gone… The smell of his aftershave lingers in their bedroom. His voice still rings out on their answerphone. She sees his face in the eyes of strangers. But as the months pass, and her family and friends rally round, Ali starts to uncover secrets that Matthew kept from her. My Thoughts: I really wanted to love this book, it had a wonderful premise. It just fell a little flat for me. The characters were one-dimensional and did not have much depth, shallow, and not likable. The prologue and first few chapters was great, then there was repeating of information as well as the repeated swearing, I just felt like it did not add any value to the novel. Having said this, there is still some twists, suspense, and tension created throughout the book. It was still a good read and I would absolutely read other novels by this author.

Matthew and Ali are leaving a party celebrating their third anniversary where they had had a lot to drink. It is raining heavily, Matthew is angry about something, and driving too fast. Then the car leaves the road, down into a gully and into icy water. Ali’s friends, Liz and Dane had been following them and rescued Ali from the car. But Matthew simply disappeared.

Two months later, Ali lives with severe pain relying on morphine, crutches, and metal pins in her body. In addition, she has amnesia about some of the time before the accident happened.

Ali’s first husband, Rory, has been dead for 7 years and their daughter, Emma, was against Ali marrying Matthew as he was younger than her and she felt he was only after Ali’s money..

After many searches have been made, Matthew has not been found. Ali feels like Matthew has been in the house because money is missing from a cashbox that only they knew about.

Finally, Ali is determined to stop wallowing in her self-pity and ready to get back to work and find out what really happened to Matthew. As she slowly puts the puzzle pieces together, she finds out the truth.

This is an OK book. I know that Ali was injured but she needed to “take the bull by the horns” and step up to the plate. It was exhausting waiting for her to do something other than feel sorry for herself. The plot itself was good and believable but the story could have been shortened significantly.

Is the man you married everything he seems to be or are dark secrets lurking in the background? That is the question throughout this story. I think we'd all like to think we know our significant others inside and out, but can we ever truly know someone as deeply as we'd like?

After the death of her first husband, Rory, Ali is left alone with her daughter, Emma and the business they created together. After a few years her friends, Liz and Dane introduce her to Matthew, and they fall in love quickly. Fast forward a few years and they are just finishing celebrating their third wedding anniversary at a party with friends. In the parking lot, they get into an argument and as they're driving home, Matthew is speeding and he loses control of the car, plunging them in to the river below. Ali is able to escape with the help of her friends, but the car and Matthew are swept away. Matthews body is never recovered, and Ali is left a widow for a second time. What happens in the months after their terrible accident, is a complicated web of lies, deceit and betrayal. Is Matthew still alive and if he is, just what has he been hiding all these years?

This is the first book I have read by this author. The story kept me on the edge of my seat and is a definite page turner. I found myself yelling at her for not doing things like changing her locks or getting a security system in her home. My heart would be thumping as I was quickly turning the page to see what she was about to uncover and I for one, never saw the twists coming. I really enjoyed this story and will be looking for more from this author, I received this book for free from NetGalley for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this second novel by Louise Charland. This psychological thriller started quickly and kept its fast pace throughout. After Ali and Matthew are in a car accident, Ali is left to recover from her injuries while Matthew has gone missing. Ali has much support from her friend Liz, and her daughter Emma. Both women, while supporting Ali, also holds secrets which start to come to light as the story progresses.

This story had many twists and turns and kept me engaged to the very end. While I had some clue as to who might be guilty in this book, I didn’t figure it out the until the very end. The author did a wonderful job with her writing style and flow of story and I would definitely recommend this book.

This started off as a real page turner! The suspense got me quite a few exhausted days at work as I just couldn’t stop bedtime reading this book. I love the development of characters in this book and how is the main character is this pretty amazing career woman who also is an incredible mother to her only daughter.
The The story line was built up so well. The reason I’ve rated this book so low is the extremely disappointing end. I really hope there’s a second part because leaving it the way it has been is a crime itself never mind all the ones Matthew committed in the story! I think because the story has been developed so well and characterisation, the very end just seems a half hearted attempt. Perhaps I was wanting a happy ending which it kind of was given that there was closure surrounding Matthews death however, the breakdown of the only friendship was just not a good twist in the plot.
I also found it very infuriating when the author used “gotten” rather than “got”. If this was a book set in America or it was written by an American author, I wouldn’t mind but it’s set in the UK. I know this is a small thing but I think it takes something little away from the overall context of the book.

This started out with a bang, but it fizzled out pretty fast. Ali is adamant that her husband is alive after the car crash that left her with serious injuries, but everyone around her is just as adamant that Matthew is dead. This conversation is repeated many times through the book, and soon becomes tedious. I also felt that the story was predictable - there's so many stories out there that have the same basic plot, and many of them do it better. I found the characters to be unpleasant & didn't really care what happened to them. There's a huge market for domestic thrillers but this one was just not for me.

A terrible car crash left Ali with some amnesia and a widow once again. But she’s not convinced Matthew is truly dead.
Then she discovers some inconsistencies within her company. As she sorts deeper into the mire, just who cam she actually trusted.
I thought Ali was extremely gullible and dark too trusting. I loved the tile of her father when she approached him for answers.
Some of the story was convoluted and easy to get lost in, but it’s a worthwhile read.

This book was really, really good. The characters were well rounded and believable and the plot was surprising all the way through. I read this in one sitting because I was so intrigued and invested that I had to find out what happened.

4.5 stars…I had to take off half a star just because Ali annoyed me so much at times. She seemed willfully ignorant of her husband’s true character and it drove me crazy.

But…this is a really good, well written book. Look for My Husband’s Secrets by Louise Sharland August 9, 2022. Thanks to NetGalley and Harper360.

A fairly complicated mystery . Ali's husband is missing, feared dead after an accident. In the aftermath of his death, Ali discovers discrepancies in the business. As the book progresses, the financial situation becomes quite complicated and is further complicated by Ali's best friend (and her husband) and her daughter also being involved with the company. Fortunately her brother is an accountant and her father an IT expert (despite them not being in touch) but Ali will not involve the police when evidence of fraud is found.
This book was OK. The characters were not very likeable, keen on designer labels and prone to jumping to conclusions and being dramatic about that and keeping secrets from each other rather than discussing things rationally. I also thought that the authoress missed the chance to describe the location (Devon & Cornwall) more.

This book took me something like three days to read, which is an inordinate amount of time for me really. But as promising as the premise was, MY HUSBAND'S SECRETS didn't quite hit the mark. What began as a compelling and intriguing prologue, pretty much fizzled out into an average story that left me somewhat confused by the end.

Ali and her husband Matthew are involved in an horrific car accident after leaving their third wedding anniversary party. The couple left the event rowing and continued their arguement in the car until they plunged from the road and into the river. Ali was pulled from the wreck but Matthew was unable to be saved.

Three months have since passed and Ali suffers from injuries sustained in the crash as well as amnesia leading up to and surrounding the accident. She remembers seeing her daughter Emma and husband Matthew arguing at the party; she remembers Matthew whispering something in her ear as they left; she remembers screaming at him...but she remembers nothing about why this was so. She does not remember what Matthew said to her as they left the party nor does she remember why they were arguing. All she remembers is flashes of being pulled from the freezing cold water and rushed off to hospital. She had no idea that Matthew never made it.

Since Matthew's body has never been recovered, Ali is convinced he is still alive and is either in hiding somewhere or has amnesia and forgotten who he is and where he lives. She simply cannot believe he is dead.

And then she stumbles across something that shakes her world to its core. Did Matthew die in the accident that night? Or is he really in hiding, waiting to make his next move?

Determined to uncover the truth herself, Ali launches her own investigation into Matthew's disappearance despite her injuries from which she is still recovering. All the while taking comfort from her first husband Rory's positive affirmations that keep her going. Truth be told, I thought Ali missed Rory far more than Matthew. She sure talked about him a whole lot at least.

MY HUSBAND'S SECRETS is my first read my Louise Sharland and I'm not entirely sure if I would race out to grab another. I wanted to like it but I found it decidedly lacking and the pace that it started off with soon fizzled out pretty fast. The characters are mixed and I can't say I liked them a whole lot. The story is a little predictable but not too much so. I just found it a bit of a non-event. By the time I reached the end I was feeling "Whew! I'm glad that's over" as well as "Is that it?"

Overall, MY HUSBAND'S SECRETS is not an earth-shattering thrill-ride of a thriller. As I said, it begins with an intriguing prologue but soon fizzles out fairly fast and not much happens between then and the ending. It was overall an OK read, but not great.

My Husband’s Secrets is Louise Sharland’s latest domestic thriller. We are introduced to a British couple having an argument and subsequently having an automobile accident in the Prologue. The woman is rescued and heard saying, “save Matthew.” When the first chapter starts, it is two months later and 43-year-old Alice (Ali) is recovering from her injuries. The crash happened during a torrential downpour when they were on their way home from their third anniversary celebration. Her beloved husband, Matthew Penrose, is missing and presumed dead by family and friends. The wrecked car was recovered from the river where it was swept by floodwaters, but his body is missing.

Ali owns a successful property developed company that she founded with her first husband, who died at age 36 of lung cancer. Their 22-year-old daughter, Emma, works with Ali at the firm, along with Ali’s best friend since age 13, Liz. Liz’s husband, Dane, knew Matthew from their army days, and introduced the pair. Ali was reluctant to date Matthew because he is eight years younger than her, but he overcame her fears. He was an online trader and frequently lost money, and their prenuptial agreement said any future money trading by him is grounds for a divorce.

In addition to physical injuries, Ali is dealing with memory loss. She can’t remember all of the details of the accident, nor what caused their ugly fight and the horrific words that Matthew said to her immediately before they got into the car. Matthew and Emma never got along, so Emma hopes that he is dead. Emma and Liz are stressed from Ali’s absence from the business but won’t share any details with her. Liz’s husband’s financial business is slow. So he’s helping out too.

Ali discovers that 500 pounds is missing from their home’s secret cashbox, so she is convinced that Matthew is still alive. Then she learns that his laptop is missing, and so is his custom-made leather jacket. Ali schemes with Dane to look for Matthew in small towns in the southwest region of the country, keeping it secret from everyone else, especially Liz. Ali’s gay account brother, Graham, audits the financials at the business and finds that Matthew embezzled money.

Ali loves Matthew and believes the best of him, excusing his indiscretions. Everyone else thinks he was using Ali for financial gain. With Ali’s memory lapses, the story jumps around in time as Ali remembers past events. The reader wonders if Matthew is dead or alive, and if he’s dead, who is doing things to make him seem still alive.

My Husband’s Secrets is a well-written British domestic thriller. While I didn’t identify with Ali, she was likeable, and I was sucked into the missing-husband mystery. The characters are well-identified and the hints are dispensed slowly to keep the story moving. My one caution is that there is a lot of alcohol consumption in this book, so some readers might find it offensive. I recommend this book for thriller fans.

It starts out with an argument and car wreck. Ali is badly injured and lucky to be alive since the car goes in the water and she doesn't swim. The wreck occurs on the way home from her's and Matt's third anniversary party. Her best friend Liv is following, watching the car ahead go off the road and Liv fishes her out of the car. It would have been a kindness to have left her in there. Matt doesn't make it out, it seems. Then there's afterward.

Ali is convinced that Matt is still alive. She's unable to get that out of her head. Then there's Liv's husband Dane who tells Ali he believes the same and leeches money from her so that he can "look for Matt." Everyone else knows that Matt is dead, especially Liv. The story drags on with Ali trying to find Matt, feeling sorry for herself, mourning for her obviously conniving husband, trying to keep her secrets that aren't so secret to herself, and everyone constantly hitting the bottle.

Then there's Emma, Ali's daughter with her first husband, Rory. Rory had died years previously from cancer. It was Rory who started the company that employs them all. With all the rampant stupidity, it's a wonder that the business didn't go under when he did.Rory is ever present in little scraps of inspirational tidbits that seem to pop up on paper whenever needed.
But back to Emma, 22 yrs old with the emotional age of 15. Somewhere at the ending should have been a couple lines dedicated to her receiving counseling and a new life away from all that dysfunction.

Then there's the cast of supporting characters- Ali's activist father who moved their family to a commune years ago, her gay brother Graham who always seems to drop whatever he's doing and run to Ali's aid, an ineffective family liaison officer whose name I forget, and another forgettable guy who works for Ali doing repairs to the properties. That guy just missed being another notch in her bedpost.

All these characters were one dimensional and except for Ali's dad, in need of a 12 step program.

I'd read a previous book by this author but now approaching her others with caution.

The premise of My Husband's Secrets was immediately intriguing: On the night they were celebrating their wedding anniversary, Ali and Matthew are involved in a fatal car accident. Ali struggles with her recovery, both physical and mental, as she struggles with daily reminders of her husband. And as the days go on, she begins to uncover secrets he's been hiding from her. Worse still, she can't shake the feeling that he's still alive...

But the book itself fell a little flat for me.

Come on, Ali, just accept he's gone and marry a new guy like you already did.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but unfortunately this book is full of such unlikable characters that I didn't really sympathize with what anyone was going through. More than twenty percent into the book and it's just Ali over and over and over again telling someone else that no! Matthew just isn't dead!

Look, I get it--authors are bound by publishing standards to hit certain word counts based on genre. And let's face it--every story's basically been told; Now it's a matter of how different writers will spin the tropes. Unfortunately, it seems like many of the current plotlines aren't sufficient enough to carry a book through 90,000 words. And so, to hit required word counts, we end up with so much...filler.

I can understand that a wife would struggle to accept her husband's death. And it's a compelling premise to ask if he's really gone or if instead there's some shenanigans going on and he's hiding out somewhere else. But Ali just became annoying about it--that much repetition is frustrating for the reader--so I skimmed ahead just to find out the ending. I was never invested in this story and the twist wasn't that exciting.

There's also a little ew factor going on with Ali's casual dismissal/excusing of evicting people from their homes to flip properties ("just keep your eye on the goal girl boss").

Thanks very much to Avon Books UK for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for a review through NetGalley.

My Husband's Secrets begins on the eve of Ali and Matthew's wedding anniversary. After a dinner/party with friends Ali and Matthew are involved in a fatal car accident. Ali is recovering from the accident and can't remember most of the events up to and all of the accident. Ali is struggling to accept that Matthew is dead and clings to the fact that the body was never found so he must be missing. As time passes Ali starts to notice odd things missing that helps her to keep thinking he must be missing. As her daughter and close friends rally around her to help her recover and keep her business going in her absence, she starts to suspect that she is not being told everything. But are these her fears or is she spiraling out of control, or even worse is there more to Matthew missing than someone close to her is keeping from her.

There were a lot of comments about things being repetitive in the story, but I did not take it that way. Ali has lost her first husband and now her second husband. There were not questions regarding Rory's death, but there are, for Ali, a lot of unanswered questions regarding Matthew. So, for me, I think after such a devastating accident, not being able to remember and grieving at the same time shows how fragile Ali was.

I really liked this story. This story just kept building and building with more questions than proof. I could understand Ali struggling and needing people to believe her that Matthew was still alive. People deal with grief differently, combine that with missing memories and you have someone that questions what she is being told.

This story turned out differently than I had expected. As it progressed I could start to see that something wasn't quite right, there were several red herrings to lead you in different directions until the conclusion. I found this to be a riveting story. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
