After a messy divorce from music, West fell into a torrid love affair with writing. They’ve been somewhat happily married since 2013, when her first novel was published in partnership with Schuler’s Books & Music Chapbook Press. West graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s of Art in Writing in 2011 with an emphasis on fiction and poetry. Since then, West has indie published multiple novels and collections of poems that tackle themes of love, redemption, cultural identity, social issues and the afterlife. West resides in Michigan with her family and can often be found reheating the tea she forgot she made or reading a good book.
I feel like there was never a dull moment in this book. It takes off from the very beginning with very relatable characters, finding themselves in pretty wild scenarios, throw in some spice and family drama - perfect! Highly Recommend for anyone! I heavily read fantasy and Sci-fi. and found this book a nice change of scenery.
Yvonne and Levi's story is like a roller coaster at times. In the end Levi shows Yvonne she can trust. Yvonne needed Levi to show her what her life should be like and that she didn't have to settle for less. Sometimes we all need a "turn" to put us back on our path.
The story was good, but the book needs some corrections. All of the chapters are good, but I feel that some of them are not needed. They could be used in another book following the characters in a different way.
Turns is a very happy story, which I find refreshing! If you've not read 29, start there to get a little background on Levi. Almost immediately Yvonne finds herself facing the ultimate betrayal, and that one turn (see what I did there?) leads to many beautiful, fun, unexpected turns. I appreciated getting the next chapter of Levi's story from where 29 ends--and like him a whole lot more now! Turns is a good read when you need to be uplifted, reminded of hope, reminded to dream, or when you are on the brink of a life turn. Perhaps Yvonne's progression to trusting in leaps of faith be the push you need.
