Dense reading material, but I really enjoyed learning SO much about Diwali history, legends, and traditions!

Diwali , the festival of lights , celebrated all across the country but how aware are we or our children about the stories of our Indian mythology which is the reason behind this festivities. Author Priyankee Saikia , has made sure that all these stories reach to us .
Different states , different religions have their own ways of celebration and their own stories as well . Like Diwali is known to people of different states in their different names. The story of why we celebrate Dhanteras , and worship the god of wealth , how Krishna freed away 16000 princess from King Narakasura and How the return of Ram , Sita and Laxman led to this celebration of lights and Diya and Diwali . The love between brother and sister , Krishna and Subhadra which marks the occasion of Bhai dooj . The book talks about different cultures and different rituals and myths behind diwali and the it's spread across the country .
I am superly impressed with the way author has described every aspect of mythology and woven together the beautiful stories behind the 5 day Diwali festival . Many of these stories i was unaware of , but now I can proudly say i know the reason behind the celebration . Often people just tend to enjoy the festivities but forget the reason behind the and this book is must for the newer generation and forthcoming as well.

The Magical Myths and Lost Legends of Diwali is a detailed account about various legends that surround one of the most widely celebrated festivals in India, Diwali. Right from celebrating the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya to the defeat of Narakasura by Krishna, each region in India celebrates Diwali for a different reason. Hence, it is quite enlightening to know about various stories and learn about the origin of myriad customs that adorn our culture. This short book is a storehouse of myths and legends that surround this festival. It’s an interesting read!
