I loved it!!! Totally, right from beginning till the end! (I'm perfectly fine ignoring some minor stuffs at the end) coz it was so refreshing to read such a strong female character! Why doesn't this author write more!?! She has so much potential, at many places I felt as if I was reading Nemrah, seriously!!
Just after reading two books of hers, she's in among my top fav writers in Urdu! And Maryam among one of the best female leads, Hashim was a nice character too! All the fiji and Russia track felt real!
Give yourself a favour and read this, I don't really wanna say anything abt it's plot, coz it's better that way! Book is around 222 pgs or so, I read it in a day, it's worth the time!

A motivational story with an inspiring and strong female lead. Recommended. My second novel by Maimoona, and she has ended up as being one of my favourite authors.

"میں ایک جگنو" از میمونہ نصراللہ
بعض کہانیاں صرف کہانیاں نہیں ہوتیں — وہ آئینہ ہوتی ہیں، شفاف، بےرنگ، لیکن دل کو اندر سے چھو لینے والی۔ "میں ایک جگنو" ایسی ہی ایک کہانی ہے۔ ایک ایسی عورت کی داستان، جو دکھ سہتی ہے، الزام سہتی ہے، تنہائیاں جھیلتی ہے... مگر جھکتی نہیں۔ وہ ٹوٹتی ہے، بکھرتی نہیں۔
مریم عالم، اس ناول کا مرکزی کردار، نہایت سنجیدگی، وقار اور غیر معمولی قوتِ برداشت کی حامل ایک عورت ہے۔ اس کا وجود اس بات کی گواہی دیتا ہے کہ دنیا کی تمام کٹھنائیاں بھی ایک باکردار، باحوصلہ عورت کے حوصلے کو زیر نہیں کر سکتیں۔
ناول کی ابتدا سادہ ہے، حتیٰ کہ ایک لمحے کو یوں محسوس ہوتا ہے کہ شاید یہ بھی انہی عام کہانیوں میں سے ایک ہو گی جو ہمیں اکثر پڑھنے کو ملتی ہیں۔ مگر جیسے ہی صفحے پلٹتے ہیں، کہانی کی گہرائی سامنے آتی ہے، اور دل میں اُترتی چلی جاتی ہے۔ کچھ جملے اتنے بامعنی اور گہرے ہیں کہ کتاب بند کر کے چند لمحے انہیں صرف محسوس کرنا پڑتا ہے۔
کیا دنیا میں واقعی ایسے دوست ہوتے ہیں؟
کیا ہاشر جیسے لوگ حقیقت میں بھی پائے جاتے ہیں؟
کیا مریم عالم جیسی لڑکیاں ہمارے درمیان زندہ حقیقت ہیں؟
یہ سوالات قاری کے دل و دماغ میں خاموشی سے جنم لیتے ہیں، اور دیر تک رہتے ہیں۔
ناول کی سب سے حسین بات یہ ہے کہ مریم کی کہانی کو کسی مرد کے سہارے سے مکمل نہیں دکھایا گیا۔ وہ خود اپنی روشنی ہے۔ ایک جگنو، جو اندھیروں میں اپنی سی چمک بکھیرتی ہے، خاموشی سے، مگر پورے وقار کے ساتھ۔
تحریر کا اسلوب نہایت شائستہ اور پختہ ہے۔ مصنفہ نے نہ صرف ایک مضبوط پلاٹ پیش کیا، بلکہ مختصر صفحات میں کہانی کو ایسا جِلا دیا کہ قاری کی توجہ ایک لمحے کے لیے بھی بٹتی نہیں۔ مکالمے سادہ مگر پراثر ہیں۔ جملوں میں کہیں کہیں ایسا لطیف مزاح محسوس ہوتا ہے، جو مسکراہٹ بھی دیتا ہے اور بےساختہ داد بھی۔
اختتام بہت خوبی سے باندھا گیا ہے۔ وہ لمحہ — جب قاری کو مریم کی گرفتاری کی اصل وجہ معلوم ہوتی ہے، ایک گہرا صدمہ دے جاتا ہے۔ یہ صرف کہانی کا موڑ نہیں، بلکہ معاشرتی سچائی کا چہرہ ہے، جو آج بھی کچھ علاقوں میں "غیرت کے نام پر قتل" کی شکل میں زندہ ہے۔ خصوصاً بلوچستان جیسے خطوں میں یہ ایک تلخ حقیقت ہے، جسے اس ناول نے بڑی خوبصورتی اور جرات سے اجاگر کیا ہے۔
"میں ایک جگنو" صرف ایک مختصر ناول نہیں، بلکہ ایک عورت کی بقا، عزت اور خودی کی داستان ہے۔ یہ پڑھنے والوں کو نہ صرف متاثر کرتی ہے، بلکہ ان کے اندر کہیں کوئی چراغ روشن بھی کر جاتی ہے۔

shuru me novel cringe aur boring thi lekin the incident changed everything! whole of her journey was very intense! as a woman, i could feel my heart shattering! but the way she faced every trial and stood up for herself was very very admirable and brave!
aur mujhe ye baat acchi lagi ke focus romance par nahi tha! honestly, mujhe dono main character pasand nahi aaye! bas unkey actions bohot praiseworthy the!
kahani ne ek behtareen sabak diya hai ke ek aurat ka wajood sirf mardo se nahi hota! wo unkey bina bhi muqammal hai aur apna aap smbhal sakti hai! balke hamarey mard hi kabhi kabhi hamare liye sab se bada khatra ban sakte hain isiliye un par muqammal taur par depend nahi karna chahiye!
and one important thing, ye kitaab bookstagram par is tarah advertise hai ke Maryam was a rape victim! which is not right! she saved herself! so ese galat bayani se book ko famous karna theek nahi! isi wajah se pata nahi maine kitne time isko latka kar rakha ke rape is a serious topic! so agar koi isi wajah se nahi padh raha to jaan le ke she was not a rape victim! although sab scene phir bhi bohot intense the!

i don't know how to describe those things i feel while reading this book..it was so unusual. I found it a bit nimra ahmed coded (because of vv strong female character who easily travels out of the country lol. I'm sorry pls forgive me :p) Everything was happening so fast. Some parts of the book reduce me to tears and some lines are so profound that i just needed to put down the book for some time only to absorb them. Kia dost ese bhi hute hain? Kia dunya main ye sab bhi huta hai?? Kia mariyam aalam jesi larkiyan asal main bhi huti hain?? Kia Hashir jese larkay asal main bhi hute hain? So unreal. It felt so good when mariyum cut off ties with her family they truly deserved it. I hope friends like Rida rot in hell.

I absolutely loved this book! It was an unexpected read, but it turned out to be such a beautiful and impactful story. I really appreciated how it portrayed a woman's journey—her struggles, resilience, and kindness—all without relying on a man in her life. While I would have loved to see more scenes between Maryam and Hashir towards the end, the story was still deeply moving and overwhelming in the best way. I truly loved it! ♥️

I am amazed that how beautifully she has wrote such an engaging short novel with strong leads.
In start it seemed an average story but the plot was quiet good and fast paced. No Crying and all A strong female lead. The end was executed really well.
The writer has so much potential.
Loved the Character of Mariyam Alam.
9/10 must read.

Not writing a huge review on 200 pages novelette, but trust me, reading this was such a fun experience. The first plot, was almost predictable, but for what was she arrested was completely unpredictable. And It shows the harsh reality of how, still in many areas "gairat kay naam par qatal" is common, especially in Baloch. Writing style and humor used in this book, is literally worth a read!

Why I am giving it 4⭐️ because I am the reason. I started reading it as light story but it turns out a little depressing for me. 😭
I tried so hard to point out anything which I can say that’s why I am giving it 4⭐️ but I can’t. Consider it 4.5⭐️from me.
It’s too good,the plot, the story which I find depressing but I just can’t put it away.😭
"Maryam Alam" the lady which maybe didn’t learned from her mistakes, had flaws but also didn’t fall,didn’t lose hope.Which makes her character stand out. She fights with her hurdles, but that doesn’t change her nature because she is like that and she accepts her like that.Her helping nature makes her "Maryam" and that’s why she is also enough to help herself.
"Meer Hashir" is green flag he is. The loyal, supportive man he turns out. The way he didn’t lose hope and is all ready to help Maryam.
